Capturing HDCAM to 4x3 NTSC DV project

i have a HDCAM tape with some great footage that I'm trying to capture and play in my 4x3 NTSC DV project. I would love the HDCAM stuff to play
at its native 16 x 9. What settings should I use to make this happen?
HDCAM specs are:
1080 active line
16x9 aspect ratio
59.94 Hz field frequency
My project is
NTSC - DV
29.97 frames per second
compressor is  DV/DVC-PRO NTSC
and I'm on FCP 7

Not sure whether you're looking for advice on capture settings or editing. If you've successfully captured the HDCAM footage and want to edit clips into a DV sequence and have the display properly, then adjusting scale in the motion tab to reduce the image size should produce a letterboxed 16:9 image within an SD fame.
According to your signature, you're running FCP7 on a PPC machine? Didn't think that was possible.

DV NTSC Anamorphic.  Because there is no SD 16x9 full raster format.

  • TS3391 iMovie 11 is not working. I try to open it and it says it is generating thumbnails for one of my previous projects. All the commands are gray. I have to force it to quit. I just want to capture clips to start a new project.

iMovie 11 is not working. I try to open it and it says it is generating thumbnails for one of my previous projects. All the commands are gray. I have to force it to quit. I just want to capture clips to start a new project. I googled the problem and there were discussions about deleting files in various folders and renaming clip extensions. I don't like the solutions I saw there and I am not sure they will work.

Nobody replied so I called Apple. They seemed to think they could fix the problem but I had to agree to pay about $20 first. I told them to put it down as a complaint. I only want to use the software I bought. I can't see that it is my fault it is malfunctioning. I guess I will have to pay. It doesn't seem right.

  • Using a 4x3 iMovie '09 Project in iMovie 2013

I have come to the conclusion that there is no way to create a new iMovie 2013 project in anything else but widescreen <sigh>, and since I need a 4x3 project without black sidebars for display on a 4x3 projection screen, I thought I was smart to create the project in iMovie '09 where a standard definition aspect ratio is still a possibility.
Alas, I can not find a way to open this project with iMovie 2013.
Is there a way to either create a 'borderless' 4x3 iMovie 2013 project, or to import/convert and work with a 4x3 iMovie project from an earlier version, or am I forced to build the project from start to finish in iMovie '09?
Thanks in advance for any insight or suggestions.

No you are correct, iMovie 10 only does 16*9 aspect ratio.   You either have to continue using an earlier version of iMovie or buy Final Cut Pro 10.1.
You can send your movie from iMovie 10 to Final Cut Pro 10.1.

  • Capturing HDCAM

I am trying to capture HDCAM from a HDW-1800. I am using a Blackmagic Deck link HD card, but I can't get the video to show up.
It is 1080 59.94, and I have tried all of the 59.94 presets with no result.
Even taking the SD down conversion [SDI], I can't bring an image up in the capture window.
    Thanks.
    JNC

If you take the Downconvert (or HD SDI) output directly into a monitor do you see it?
I would troubleshoot starting at the deck and work my way over to FCP
That way you can verify at what point the signal is getting lost.
The most common causes are incorrect settings in FCP.
You should be using the Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 - 8bit Easy setup to capture.
You might also check your audio video settings capture preset to make sure it's looking for your decklink card and not something else.

  • Captures PAL video with NTSC camera using Premiere Pro 1.5

I try to capture (download) PAL videos from a Sony DCR-HC40 NTSC camera using Premiere Pro 1.5. I can see the movie (on the camera) but none is captured in Premiere. I did it before and it worked, but I forgot the appropriate setting within the Premiere program.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Muenkey

The latter is the problem. As I hit the capture button, the tape in the camera rolls, I can see (and hear) the PAL movie in the view finder and on the LCD screen of the camera, but the capture window stays black (though the frame counter works) and nothing is captured. (This is true whether I use an NTSC or PAL project set-up in Premiere). Again, I know there is a solution. I have done it before but forgot the necessary set-up steps in Premiere.

  • HD capture/transfer settings for multitrack audio project

I have a video clip on my camcorder hard drive that I want to edit in FCP6. It was recorded in 5.1 surround with the built in mic and I would like to know what capture setting or preset to use so that I can send the audio to Soundtrack and edit the different channel levels so I can lower the levels on all channels except the center channel. The 'Easy Setup' is set for 'all formats' and use custom setup 'NTSC DV', rates are set for all. I've transferred other clips from my camcorder and the audio was captured in LR Stereo, but for this project I would like to edit each audio channel in the 5.1 configuration. I've been doing SD video for quite some time and I'm new to the HD stuff. Thanks for any and all helpful comments and suggestions.

You can't do it in FCP. I don't know any third party software that will let you convert the 5.1 to work in STP. You might try ClipWrap to see if it works. Sorry I can't help you.

  • Capturing HDCAM to SD FORMAT

    Here is the deal.
I have 16x9 HD quality footage off of HDCAM tape.
I'm trying to down convert to 16x9 SD format.
    Things I tried:
I tried capturing under SD format w/ a kona card, but it comes out 4x3
I also tried to capture it 16x9 HD to SD setting on FCP. It really doesn't work
I also tried 23.98PD but it slows down the frame. (Slow Motion)
Lastly, I tried 25, 24 and it doesn't even come up on the screen. I tried the firewire port to pulldown and even anamorphic settings.
I need to capture this in the most efficient way to down convert 16x9 HD to 16x9 SD

Go into the Kona Control Panel and change your Frame Buffer to 525I. Then the incoming signal should say DOWNCONVERT. And you can downconvert, but you cannot change the frame rate. One or the other....not both at the same time.

  • Capturing and switching between 2 different projects

Everytime I capture, it only allows me to capture to project bin that is on the top. If I have other projects up, how do I change the information to capture to another project? The current solution that I know about is shutting down the top project, than restarting the software. Is there an easier way to capture to different projects?

bring the project you want to capture to, to the front. create a bin if you haven't already (CommandB). select the bin and from the file menu "Set logging bin". your footage will now go into the capture scratch folder for that project. to switch projects repeat as necessary

  • Capturing lots of footage for multiple projects?

I've got 50+ DV tapes with years worth of footage that I want to transfer to my hard disk so that I can eventually make some movies. Do I have to capture to a project in FC4? I want to transfer all the video and then pick out clips for projects as I need them. (Something like the clip browser in iMovie, but I can't stand editing in the new iMovie). My first thought was to create a single project and capture all my video there. Then when I work on a project I can just use clips from the "capture" project. Any thoughts on this approach?

I capture all my tapes in FCE and then copy the clip files from Capture Scratch to folders on an external FW drive that is my 'video store'. (Among other things, it simplifies backing up all my source media clips.) After copying the clip files to the external drive, I delete them from Capture Scratch and I do not keep the FCE project(s) in which I capture the tapes.
To help keep the clip files organized, I do this:
    • give each tape a unique reel number and name at the time of the shoot
    • assign the reel number & name in FCE when I capture
    • store related clip files in a folder with an appropriate name (for example, if I have 4 reels from a single shoot, I keep them together in a single folder)
    • keep a log of each tape in an Excel workbook
When I start a real project, I can import any/all of the clip files from my external drive for any project.

  • Is this true?? NTSC dvd projects will play in PAL players

    From The "Unofficial" imovie FAQ
    http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6017.shtml
    States:
The good news is: You can just send an NTSC disc. Any PAL set top DVD player capable of playing DVD-R discs can also play NTSC discs. All that is needed is a fairly new TV, built in the last 8-10 years or so.
So is this true? I can send my project made in idvd to a country that uses PAL and my NTSC project will play?
    Thank you for your time.

my Sony TV is 12 years old and does accept the "strange" signal, my DVDplayer (and multinorm VHSplayer) offers while NTSC playback... (colorful pix, stereo audio)
..This has been VERY helpful. ..

  • CC's on 16x9 NTSC SD project

    Hello.
I have built a 16x9 project that needs to include Closed Captions.
The footage was encoded SD 4x3 anamorphic.
I am using a valid .scc file that for some reason will not show up when I burn a disc.
I've tried this same .scc file with a 4x3 project, and the Line 21 data shows up perfectly.
Can 16x9 DVD's correctly display Closed Cpations (Line 21 data)?
Is this is a situation where I have to use subtitles instead of captions?
    thank you!

  • HD - best capture and edit for NTSC Sd output?

I shoot in HD but need to output for community TV channel in Standard NTSC. What shoud my capture and sequence settings be for optimum picture quality for playback?

    Two suggestions.
When I did shows on the local community tv, they had pretty rigid specs I needed to conform to. So check with whomever you are producing for, the station will give you what they need.
For my local community tv, it was 29.97 frame rate bitrate 6000-8000 720x480 mpeg2. Audio was 2 ch stereo bit rate of either 192 or 256, 44.1 or 48 khz.
So I would export in prores and use something like Compressor to change.

  • Capturing Excise Duty in Stock Transfer - Project Critical

    Hi All,
I am facing a problem in SAP B1. The situation is presented below:
"We have an Excisable Item, Excisable Warehouse and Non-Excisable Warehouse.
I want to capture the Excis Duty when I transfer the Stock from the Excisable Warehouse to an Non-Excisable warehouse. This will happen in the case of stock removal"
    Please help me out.

    RSA,
I have read SAP B1 2007A/B statement and direction. Isee that your problem seems could be resolved in this version, I quote as follows:
Excise for Inventory Transfers (India) u2013 This feature will enable customers to consider and post
transactions wherein excise is involved in inventory transfers. Customers can:
1.Define an excisable warehouse. If the warehouse is excisable, Incoming CENVAT Account
(WH) and Outgoing CENVAT Account (WH) for CENVAT taxes posting in the excise invoice
    must be specified.
    2. Specify at row level inventory transfer documents relevant for an excise invoice
3.Copy inventory transfer documents to Outgoing Excise Invoice and then to Incoming Excise
    Invoice
    4. Create an automatic Incoming Excise Invoice from the Outgoing Excise Invoice
The system queries are provided to report the Open Excisable Stock Transfer Documents and Open
    OEIs from Stock Transfer Documents.
is the above explanation able to resolve your problem ?
