Capturing in APR (studio 2)

A client of mine has Final cut 6 and wants to capture in APR then give these files to me. I am working in Final Cut 7. My question is, are the two versions of APR from studio 2 and 3 compatible?
Jeff

Hi Tom,
Thanks for answering. Just to verify the files would be captured in FCP 6 in Pro Res (previous version) then handed off to me and I am working in FCP 7 (current version).

  • Monitoring audio in sync with video when capturing in FCP studio

Is there a way I can monitor audio in sync with video when capturing in FCP Studio? I know you can plug headphones into your tape deck but that sound is not in sync with the video in the capture window due to time delay. I tried plugging the headphones into my Powerbook but could not get any audio coming through these, nor audio through the Mac's inbuilt speakers.

The preview checkbox is ticked and the audio monitor indicates that sound is being picked up (the levels rise and fall) but I still can't hear anything! The audio/video sync on the external monitor is ok, but because there is a time delay between that and the video capture window, I can't use that as a reliable monitor for sound sync. If I could resolve the video sync problem there, then I could monitor the sound through the external monitor.

  • DVD builds with screen captures from Camtasia Studio

I cannot get quality DVD builds from Encore when the avi input is from Camtasia Studio.
From Camtasia, I export to full uncompressed avi. The DVDs come out blurry or twitching or both. I have tried the avi files in Premiere with the same results. This file does not seem usable by Encore or by Premiere. I also tried exporting to mp4.  I have tried different aspect ratios and frame rates.
    Any help is appreciated.

my video is still blurry when I play it in Premiere. I used all the same settings you used in the tutorial
Then as I said earlier, it's likely that you are running into problems with scaling and interlacing/deinterlacing the footage.  Investigate the frame size of your source screen captures as compared to the frame size of your Camtasia export and as compared to the DVD frame size of 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).  Investigate whether you interlaced the footage on export from Camtasia or on import into En or Pr.  Screen caps are always progressive. Also pay attention to your frame rates; encoders that output legal DVD video handle 29.97 fps, 25 fps and 23.976 fps differently.

  • Capture in APR

If you do a capture using Apple Pro Res 422 will it detect the difference between 8 & 10 Bit as I need to capture to 8 Bit (coming from D-beta)
    Thanks
    Jeff

Not sure what you mean. If you capture ProRes, it converts whatever format you feed the capture card into 10-bit ProRes. ProRes is ONLY 10-bit. If you want 8-bit, then you need to look at uncompressed 8-bit or DV50. But UC has a much higher data rate, and I'm not sure why you MUST capture as 8-bit. There is no NATIVE capture of that format, so what does it matter?

  • Urgent: Unable to capture from TV Capture Card

    Hello,
I'm Ashish Shukla. I'm writing an application in JMF 2.1.1b using J2SE 1.4.0 on Win32 platform on Intel Celeron 1 GHz processor which captures from the capture device. It works fine on Intel Create & Share CS110 Web Camera. But now, I'm try to capture from the TV Capture Card Pinnacle Studio PCTV TV Capture Card (Composite Video).
But JMF Registry is not able to detect the TV Capture Card (connected alone) & my PC hangs. But, when WebCamera is plugged in, JMF Registry detects it.
When Both WebCamera (USB port) & TV Capture Card are plugged in, then JMF Registry detects only Web Camera.
If anyone can help me resolve the problem. I'm very thankful.
    Yours sincerley,

  • Bad audio connection on P-35 Platinum moBo, while capturing analog video?

Before I give up, I'm reaching out to MSI and any persons suffering from out-of-sync audio and video capture issues while using Pinnacle Studio Video editing software. Studio Ultimate HD v.14.
I've posted numerous inquiries to the Pinnacle Support team, the Pinnacle Forum site, as well as the GrassValley (Canopus 110 or 300, I was thinking about trying that) and really never got anywhere.
A few people had mentioned maybe the sync issue could be caused by a bad analog signal and it will drop video or audio frames hence the sync problem. Bringing the video into the capture mode in Studio is fine, but the audio has about a 6 second latency delay, which never recovers.
Could it be the REALTEK HD Sound Audio on my P-35 MoBo, maybe bad? I play music, and everything else coming out of my speakers sound fine, it's just the syncing issues with a PCI device that never locks in both the Video with the audio, because there are two different incoming devices.  Analog camera video-out to PCI Video-IN, and audio out from analog camera to onboard, MoBo Realtek audio input.
The PCI-500 capture that originally came with my first Studio product (Studio movieboard 12.1) has NO Audio RCA input, only FireWire, S-video, and Video IN and OUT)

I use the MSI Live Update 4 to update drivers, BIOS, VGA,and Utilities. This system is about four years old.  I'm just afraid to flash or update BIOS, thinking I could screw things up.
So I guess  my question here is to ask, if maybe the audio input jack on my P-35 Mobo could be defective?  Thank you!

Have you try out with a standalone add on sound card? Sometimes, sync problem can be due to processing power or RAM space needed for rendering and merging.

  • FCP Studio defaults

I have some HD footage I'm trying to capture into FCP studio but it keeps defaulting to standard def.
Some setting I'm overlooking or something else I'm missing.
How do you capture HD footage into FCP studio??

You need to choose one of the EASY SETUPS under the FINAL CUT PRO menu. One that matches your footage.
Then create a new project and you should be good to go.

  • Premiere project settings for camtasia capture

I did a capture in Camtasia Studio and produced it as an mp4 video. Creating a project in Premiere Pro for editing the video, what is the correct preset?
    Thanks,
    jefftho1

Been a few years (and a few versions back!) since I did a project with Camtasia, but at the time there were two record format options, one was an .avi and the other I think was .camrec format.
I always used the .avi format for editing in Premiere. Did your software actually capture as .mp4 or did you convert after capture? If converted, that loses quality, should edit the original capture.
A tip - choose a normal size for the capture. What's normal? Depends on how you wish to export/distribute when completed, but don't use random sizes! This will cause issues later on. Many encoders require the frame dimensions to be divisible by 8. Odd numbers don't behave well. Also, an odd-sized video may not have an equivalent sizing available for export and display. How will the completed video be viewed - computer, DVD, online?
Best advice - do a short sample capture in Camtasia, import to Premiere, then export to desired format. View on device. You don't want to record hours of training to only find at some later step that it's not working out. Been there. Test the entire workflow before diving in.

  • G4Ti4400-VTD video capturing

I am using a G4Ti4400-VTD grafic card. The card works fine with Windows XP professional SP1.
The card also allows TV out and Video in. I have a Grundig GV6400 VHS recorder. I have installed the latest nVidia WDM Video capturing drivers version 1.1.
I can't see any picture on my screen when I play back a video on my video recorder. I have used three different video capturing programs - Pinnacle Studio 7.11.28, InterVideo WinProducer and VirtualDub. Pinnacle does not start any capturing and the other two start capturing  but only show a black screen.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? What else could I try?
    Thanks for any help.

    Manfred,
I since you have a GF4 and you posted in the nVidia/AMD/SiS Motherboard Forum, I moved the thread to Multimedia Forum for you.

  • Performance Issue on a Xraid (Raid 5) for video digitalization

    Hello Everyone
I have a Mac Pro (2x3ghz + 8 Go Ram + Fiber channel  card) directly linked to a Xraid via Fiber (there is no Xsan and no Xserve as controller).
The Xraid is composed of 8 X 750 Go HD and set up as Raid 5.
We are working in video production/editing and it is important for us to a good level of security on our data but also to be able to digitalize rushes directly on the Raid.
We are working essentially in HUD format with Panasonic Cams (HUD) and thus are working with VCR HUD format which is meant to require 100 mb/s data rate.
When trying to capture (Final cut studio 2) directly on the Raid, we have frames drop and when I run a little utility software to test the  writing speed on the Raid it tells me that the rate is around 95-98 Mb/s which probably explains the frames dropping.
My question is : Is this normal to have such a low data rate in writing with the Xraid configuration ?
If yes is there a way to improve it by some means ?
    Thanks in advance
    Julien

How are your 8 drives configured? That's an unusual, and certainly sub-optimal, configuration.
RAID has three components that typically impact performance. One is the bus architecture (in this case a fiber channel/ATA hybrid), second is disk capacity (speed degrades as the array fills), and the third is the number of drives.
You can't do much about the bus architecture, other than trust that Apple have scaled it appropriately.
It's worth checking the disk space to see if that's impacting performance, but I suspect the drive configuration is going to be the issue.
    Since you're running 8 drives I'm guessing you're running two 4-drive arrays.
The optimal performance for any array is achieved with the largest number of drives. Since the XServe RAID controllers are designed for 7 drives each, you're essentially running each array at 4/7ths of its potential.
Of course, you don't gain much by switching all the drives onto a single controller since now you're limited by the single fiber channel link to the host, although whether one link/7 drives is better or worse than 2 links/4 drives each is something that will have to be tested.
Your best solution may be to expand the array to 14 drives to boost the disk throughput.

  • Dazzle 150

I am new to this forum so please excuse my ignorance.
I was at a garage sale today and I saw a Dazzle 150 for $20.00.
Does anyone know if it would work on a Mac?
It is USB 2 not fire wire.

Thank you for your response. I will capture with Pinnacle Studio and use Quicktime for the file conversion only. Just trying to save a step.

  • Missing right side on a div 100% width

Anyone knows why a div with a css class with attribute width : 100% is missing the right side ? See image ! Blank app (Universal Apps)

I think the issue might be related with the HTML CSS layout, see the following image I captured from Visual Studio.
As we see the width 100% is applied to the div, therefore the div width is 1366 in simulator.
And we have Border which is not calculated in the width, for this reason, there is no space for right side to display the border.
simply to make it work, I set div width as 1366 - 3*2 = 1360 (screen width - left border width - right border width), the border display without any problem.

  • Optimal export settings for filesize?

    I have a 3 minute 30s movie, 30 fps, put together from clips that I captured using camtasia studio. It's 676px x 408px.
I've edited it together in premiere cs4, but I'm having issues trying to get a good balance between filesize and quality. The best I manages with quicktime was 60mb while retaining quality, the best with mpeg-2 was 122mb.
This is out of my area of expertise but those numbers seem high. I created a quicktime version that was 30mb, but the quality was terrible,
Please could anyone give me some suggestions on which codecs and settings I should be looking at to try and get the filesize down?

I find H.264 to give me the best quality with the smallest file.  But there's really no magic formula here.  Trial and error is the name of the game when it comes to specific settings.

  • 16:9 DVDs

Hi, newcomer with only a couple of weeks worth of DV knowlegde needs a bit of advice please. My question relates to DVDs containing 16:9 widescreen footage.
My workflow involves filming 16:9 footage on a Sony Z1 in HDV and downconverting in the camera to SD whilst capturing into FCP studio using DV PAL anamorphic settings. My objective is to produce DVDs that view correctly on 16:9 widescreen TVs. My question relates to 4:3 tv sets and how the footage will appear - is it down to the consumers equipment and how they set up their TV/DVD player that dictates how 16:9 footage appears on a 4:3 set? Or is it something you can specify within DVD studio. The manual does touch on this subject but it's not all that clear so I thought I would check with those who know a lot more than me. My main priority is to display the 16:9 footage (and any menus I create) correctly on widescreen sets, and if possible have the image letterboxed on 4:3 sets to avoid distortion.
    Thanks in advance.

Set the track for 16:9 Letterbox (not Pan & Scan) to get the best chanes of working, though people can always change things in their DVD Player and/or tv settings

  • A tool to export a video of DIAdem VIEW, playing a synchronized video, map, audio and data

It's very common you need to do a presentation with several information and if you can put a video playing a synchronized video, map, audio and data graphs, like DIAdem VIEW do, your presentation will be cause a excellent impression. To do this today you need a capture screen toll, If DIAdem have a native tool to do this it would be great.

    Hello,
Today I tested the screen capture software Camtasia Studio 8 and this works really good. The files can be saved as an AVI file and different qualities can be chosen, which gives some flexibility in the file size. The screen capture is working fast, so if I run with 1 Hz the VIEW layout with a map and several 2d graphs all the frames are captured.
    With kind regards,
    Stijn
