Capturing Key Press in Oracle Forms 6.0.5

help! I have to setup forms so that our users can initiate the EDITOR if they hit cntl + E, with the caps lock on...like a capital E. This triggers the on-error event. the key-edit and key-others events dont fire with cntl + E. so i need an event to capture it and also how do you captures keypresses in code, i cant find it anywhere.

I wouldn't have thought there was anything to stop you using capitals in the key mapping definition. You should be able to define ctrl E to do the same as ctrl e.
The problem is you have to use oracle*terminal to define it on client/server.
You can define functions for alphabetic characters combined with a modifier key such as control. You cannot use alphabetic characters on their own as that would conflict with their use for normal typing.

  • How key binding in Oracle Forms works?

    Hi guys,
    This is my first time @ this forum.
    I tried to find documentation about this but no luck.
    I am new to Forms. Nevertheless, I know that in order to use key binding in Forms, fmrweb.res file is used. BUT....
    How the Form( client) know which key was pressed? Does the forms gets it from windows?
    I mean ,what kind of info(http request??) is sent over network to server ?
    Lets assume F12 is assigned as 113 key value.
    What happens over network when user clicks on keyboard F12?
    Is there any info about this?
    I read that when client accesses Forms application for the first time, java run-time classes bundled in JAR files are downloaded to client JRE cache. These files include frmall.jar, frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar. This tells me there no conf files for client , only .class
    To summarize my complicated question:) : I would like to know how my form knows what was pressed, before it send this data to server, which will read fmrweb.res and understand in the end the actual functionality
    Thanks for your replies

    Let me start by saying "Welcome to the Oracle Forums" and more specifically to "Forms". Before going much further, I would recommend that you review the following page as it will help you to get the most valuable replies possible.

    As for what you are asking, I am guessing that there is a more specific, underlying question you are asking. Is how Forms capturing key strokes internall really important? What are you trying to accomplish? The simple answer from a fairly high level is that the java client applet (frmall.jar) monitors for client activity (mouse clicks, keyboard actions, etc) and sends that information to the server. It is the Forms runtime process (frmweb) which is running on the mid tier that reacts (as required) to that event. So, it is the runtime process using the resource file and not the client. Also, you referred to frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar. These files are only used for WebUtil enabled forms. The only file required for all applications is frmall.jar
    If your real question is, how to I doing something in my application as a result of a particular key press, then the answer to most of that is in the comments listed in fmrweb.res. Here is one example of how it works.
    Let say you wanted to have your app do something custom when F2 is pressed. In fmrweb.res, assign F2 is assigned to Forms function. Specifically a custom function. This would be one of the ones shown as "Function X". You can choose any one you like as these are not related to the key. In other words, the key F2 has no direct relationship with "Function 2" unless you decide to set it up that way. "Function 2" refers to the trigger in your form. So let's related the F2 key with Function 6. You entry in fmrweb.res would look something like this: 113  : 0 : "F2"  : 88 : "Function 6" Here's how this entry works:
    <blockquote>1. The 113 directly relates to the java awt key event 113
    2. The 0 indicates that no modifiers are to be included. This means that the only key pressed will be F2. There will be no Shift, Control, etc
    3. The next entry ("F2") is what is displayed when "Show Keys" is displayed from your form's help.
    4. The 88 is the internal ID number used by Forms which relates to an event. In this case, 88 refers to Function 6 or in other words, a KEY-F6 trigger in your form.
    5. The last entry is the description of what the key does. In other words, item 3 above indicates which key to press (to the user) and this entry explains what it does or represents. So in this case, you can change the wording "Function 6" to whatever you'd like.</blockquote>
    Again, most of this is explained in the comments of fmrweb.res although I understand it can be confusing.
    This to remember:
    <blockquote><li>You cannot have duplicate java events (with modifier). So be careful, if you duplicate an entry, likely nothing will happen. You can duplicate a java event so long as it has a modifier different from other similar entries. In other words, you can have a F2, Shift+F2, etc
    <li>Some keys are restricted by the OS and cannot be overridden. Exactly which ones will depend on your client OS and version. For example, on most Windows versions, you will not be able to override F1 however in some cases it may work. It will just depend on exactly which version you are using.</blockquote>

  • Capturing Key press when the focus is not on VI. (event is not working).

    I have a VI, and found similar in Forums. I need to catch key down event, when the focus is not on VI.
    I attached the VI found in forum. Try to click on other window, for example on block diagram of VI, when VI is running and check if it works. The answer is no, it doesn't work. When you press any key, the led button must change it's state, but it does only when the focus is on VI's front panel. The question is how to control key press, when VI is minimized or inactive. Is it possible to catch key down or any similar event, when the focus is on any other application, not on VI?

  • Capture key press events with ExtendScript?

    Is it possible to do this?  I can't find an example in the documentation or online anywhere.  I'd really like to know when the user presses the arrow keys while viewing the slideshow in Bridge.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the example Paul.  I can see how to listen to key down events on Windows and Dialogs that I create.  Do you know of way to listen for global (app-wide) key down events? These are not defined:
    app.addEventListener('keydown',...)
    app.document.addEventListener('keydown',...)
    I'm trying to add to the slideshow mode by having a little palette dialog with the context information shown that I need.  The default caption box doesn't have what our artists want.  If the palette window is in focus, I get the keydown event, but if they're using the arrow keys to flip through the slideshow, I can't capture those.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Capture Key Event - Feature Request

    Hello,
    We are using Forms 9.0.4 to build applications to be viewed over our intranet using Jinitiator. I am new to the development team and this is my first time using Forms. I am trying to find a way to capture key press events on a given field (we want to automatically search within a field each time the user enters a letter). I have seen nothing inherent in Forms to do this. There has been lots of metion of a PJC.
    1. Is there a plan to include such a trigger by default?
    2. If not, can someone please dumb-down PJCs for me?

    We were able to do the same thing with Oracle Application Server and Oracle WebLogic Server. I cannot remember how different the processes were, but it seems like they were very similar. I am going to give you the instructions on how we implemented a "Read PDF" procedure on the WebLogic Server. If you are still on the Application Server you may have to do some Google searches, but it all boils down to the mod_plsql DAD Configuration file.
    Our PDF was located in a table with the following structure:
    CASE_DOCUMENTS
       (id_document                    NUMBER NOT NULL,
        doc_blob                       BLOB,
        note                           VARCHAR2(240),
        created_by                     VARCHAR2(20) NOT NULL,
        created_dt                     DATE NOT NULL,
        case_id                        NUMBER NOT NULL,
        filename                       VARCHAR2(100) NOT NULL)Based on that table structure we created a procedure named READ_PDF which you will reference below in the dads.conf file below:
    CREATE or REPLACE procedure read_pdf (p_id_document IN number)
    is
      view_file     blob;
    BEGIN
      select doc_blob
        into view_file
        from case_documents
       where id_document = p_id_document;
      OWA_UTIL.MIME_HEADER ('APPLICATION/PDF', FALSE);
      HTP.P ('CONTENT-LENGTH: ' || DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH (view_file));
      OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
      WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file (view_file);
    END;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON read_pdf TO financial_user_role  -- Name of role to execute
    /Basically, you are passing in one parameter and that is the primary key for your table. You are selecting the pdf stored in a BLOB for that primary key. The commands below that allow the pdf to open up so you can view it – we got this off some search we did a few years ago.
    Now, you need to add logic to your Oracle Form that will call the procedure above, but the URL is based on the dads.conf file that we will set up below… Anyway, we created a button on the form module with a label of "View". In the WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger the logic looks like this:
    -- The View logic uses the DAD (Database Access Descriptors) method to view a .pdf file from the form.
    -- The DAD was created on WebLogic Server  with the name findadgen.  This allows an http request be made
    -- to the database.
    declare
      v_file          varchar2(400);
      v_success       boolean;
      ret_val         number;
      v_http_link     varchar2(400);
    begin
      -- The format of the link is as follows: hostname:port/pls/DAD_name/procedure_name
      v_http_link := 'http://finas03:8888/pls/findadgen/read_pdf?p_id_document=' || :case_documents.id_document;
      web.show_document(v_http_link, '_BLANK');
    end;The name of our WebLogic Server is "finas03" so that is what is listed in the URL. The "findadgen" is the name of the <Location> in the dads.conf file below, the "read_pdf" is the name of the procedure we created above, the "p_id_document=" is the IN parameter listed in the READ_PDF procedure created above, and the ":case_documents.id_document" is the reference to the primary key in our Oracle Form.
    For WebLogic, you can either go through Enterprise Manager (directions below) or update the dads.conf file on the filesystem directly (if you update the dads.conf file directly then skip to step 4 and ignore step 5):
    1.     Enterprise Manager -> Web Tier -> ohs1
    2.     Oracle HTTP Server (pull-down) – Administration – Advance Configuration
    3.     Select File – dads.conf
    4.     Add something similar:
    # ============================================================================
    #                     mod_plsql DAD Configuration File
    # ============================================================================
    # 1. Please refer to dads.README for a description of this file
    # ============================================================================
    # Note: This file should typically be included in your plsql.conf file with
    # the "include" directive.
    # Hint: You can look at some sample DADs in the dads.README file
    # ============================================================================
    <Location /pls/findadgen>
        SetHandler pls_handler
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from All
        AllowOverride None
        PlsqlDatabaseUsername financial
        PlsqlDatabasePassword sdo_3#d1
        PlsqlDatabaseConnectString ffindbTNSFormat
        PlsqlNLSLanguage AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
        PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
        PlsqlDefaultPage read_pdf
    </Location>You are adding the <Location> section to your dads.conf file. The "finddadgen" is the name that you will reference in a change you fill make to your Oracle Form. The "financial" is the Schema, the "sdo_3#d1" is the password for that Schema, the "ffindb" is the database that the stored procedure is located on, and the "read_pdf" is a stored procedure you will have to create in order to read the pdf.
    5.     Press the "Apply" Button
    6.     Obfuscate the DAD password by running the dadTool.pl script located in $ORACLE_HOME/bin (This was done on Unix on our server with the following commands):
    $> LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib;export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    $> cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    $> perl dadTool.pl -f /u01/app/oracle/middleware/asinst_1/config/OHS/ohs1/mod_plsql/dads.conf
    7.     Restart the Oracle HTTP Server using Fusion Middleware Control:
    Enterprise Manager -> Web Tier -> ohs1
    Oracle HTTP Server – Control – Shutdown
    Oracle HTTP Server – Control – Start Up
    If you followed the instructions above, you should have created a stored procedure, added logic to your Oracle form to reference that stored procedure, and created an entry in the dads.conf file. Once you move the form onto the server and you restart the HTTP Service, you should be able to view a pdf that is stored in a table directly from your Oracle Form.

    What changes I have to made in new version so that after pressing alt+S cursor will move to save button.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.

    You will need to define your custom key map in the key mapping file you use. Typically fmrweb.res or fmrpcweb.res. Edit the file in a text editor and take a look to figure out where you need to make the change.This is wrong! The OP is talking about the Access Key (key mnemonic's) of a button. This has nothing to do with the mapping of keys in the frmweb.res, etc., files.
    @parapr, You don't mention the Java version installed and you don't mention if your OS is 32-bit or 64-bit. Likely, this issue could be related to an incompatible Java version. We use Access Keys in our 11g R2 application and they work just fine. Our Java version is 1.6.0_31. If you are using Java 1.7.0 - this version is not yet certified with Oracle Forms and I would recommend you downgrade to 1.6.0 (latest version).

    is it possible to listen just to one item in the form?
    I have triedSet_Custom_Property( 'b_hilfe.bean', 1, 'INIT', 'b_help.search');in when-new-form-instance, where 'b_help.search' is the item i want to listen to,

  • How to change a h:outputText value in the current form on key pressed event

    Hello Suners,
    Greetings! I'm developing my first JSF web application and i'm trying to figure a way out to change outputText value when key pressed on another inputText so that when the user is typing his name for example he can see the letters showing respectively in the outputText.
    I managed to do it onchange but the user must focus out of the inputText to see his name in the outputText which is not right and the form must submit onchange event which is annoying.
    <h:inputText value="#{login.username}" title="name" id="name" required="true" onchange="this.form.submit()" >
                                <f:validateLength maximum="10" minimum="1"/>

                                <f:valueChangeListener type="classes.MyListener"/>
    </h:inputText>Is there any listener i can associate with the "onkeypress" attribute? Can anyone help me to do that with JSF?
    King Regards,

    hi, with JSF 2 you got the ajax tag, just tried it and it works fine :)
    <h:inputText id="myinput" value="#{back.name}">
        <f:ajax execute="@this" event="keyup" render="outtext"/>
    </h:inputText>
    <h:outputText id="outtext" value="#{back.name}"/>or before JSF 2
    <h:outputScript name="jsf.js" library="javax.faces" target="head"/>
    <h:inputText id="myinput" value="#{back.name}" onkeyup="jsf.ajax.request(this, event, {render: 'outtext'}); return false;"/>
    <h:outputText id="outtext" value="#{back.name}"/>The name property is a simple String in the bean.

  • Design Capture of Oracle Forms

    I can successfully capture an Oracle Form built by Forms Builder into a Module in Designer 9i. When I generate the Form based on the reversed Module Data Diagram, the generated Form does not have the same user-interface at run-time. For example, the tool-bar for records navigation does not appear.
    Can any one tell me whether it is possible to capture application logic as well as exact layout from a Form?
    Is it possble to capture Oracle menus?
    Any help is appreciated.

    "...the tool-bar for records navigation does not appear"-I think that you have to create a template form and put toolbar there.
    I hope this will be a little help for you.

    You can use Javascript for this. In the onkeypress event, check if the keycode is 13 (the enter key) and handle accordingly.
    onkeypress="if (event.keyCode == 13) alert('Enter pressed!');"
