Capturing MAC Addresses from an Access Point AP1131 with SNMP

Hi!
I'm trying to use SNMP to track information as to whats connected to
our access points. The purpose is basic security and auditing in case
of a problem ( virus, technical problem, etc ). We're already able to
capture what wired devices are connected, but not the MAC addresses of
the wireless clients.
We're employing Cisco Aironet APs 1131, and looking around the MIBs, I found
one object that has what I want, but it's not accessible.
cDot11ClientAddress OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX MacAddress
MAX-ACCESS not-accessible
STATUS current
DESCRIPTION
"The MAC address of the client."
::= { cDot11ClientConfigInfoEntry 1 }
Does any one know another way to get this information via SNMP?
Thanks U by advance!

  • Cannot determine MAC address of connected Access Point using Access Connections version 5

I recently installed the newst version of Access Connections (version 5) and discovered I am unable to determine the MAC address of the connected access point.  The 'Graphical' screen shows the SSID, IP address of client etc - but does not show the MAC address of the access point.  The 'Details' screen shows the MAC address of the access points - but the radial button on the left does not indicate the cfurrently associated access point.

Is it the switch where the node is directly connected ?
Is the NIC at node side, working fine ?
Another fact to consider is, a mac will wipe itself out after the MAC-age timeout.

  • Display MAC (media access control) address of connected access point.

Hi all! Sorry if this is already posted somewhere but I tried searching and was having difficulty because of the word MAC having multiple meanings here.
Anyways I want to be able to view the MAC (media access control) address of the access point I am connected to. Is this possible? I can't find it in System Preferences. Is there a terminal command that would allow me to see it? Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

I'm looking at it right now. In the top portion, next to the active graph, it has the SSID of my access point. In the table beneath that, my access point is the first on the list, and the MAC address is clearly visible.
Second if I click on my access point in the list, the MAC address appears, temporarily at the bottom of the window.
For comparison, in the iStumbler preferences, on the AirPort tab, I have only "Auto-Select Best Network" & "Keep on Top" selected.

  • Using Mac mini as an access point for home network

    Hi
I'm looking for some help on using my mac mini as an access point on my home network.
I have a G5 tower which is wired in to my router and acts as a home server. It has all my itunes library, films, etc
I stream these to various machines in the house, one of which is a mac mini in our living room.
The mini is connected to the network via powerline adapters meaning the airport is left free.
So i set up internet sharing on the mini via airport so I can use the machine as an access point for the living room.
If I connect another machine to the mini via airport, Internet is working fine but for some reason I can't see the any other machines on the network.
All I see in the sidebar is the mini, not the server.
I've tried it on both mine and my friends macbook but had no luck.
Am I doing this the wrong way?
How would you go about doing this?
    Cheers

Internet Sharing may not be providing an address via DHCP, It also may not be providing a subnet Mask that can get you to communicate with the other computers on your local Network.
Take a look at what IP addresses are being used by the various computers on the network. I would expect you have a Router that may be using 192.168.0.1 as its base "private" address, and issuing DHCP Addresses in that range and higher with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, meaning anything with the same three high octets can communicate freely without Router intervention.
But what addresses are bing used for the Wireless Shared computer(s)? and what subnet mask?

  • MAC address and router access control

My iPhone 3GS can only access the network (through my Netgear KWGR614 wireless router) when the router's MAC address access control is off. When I turn it on the phone is blocked. The MAC address I use is taken from the iPhone settings. It begins with 64. All other MAC addresses I have ever seen begins with 00. Is this MAC address correct? If it is right, could it be that the router can't handle this address?

The first 3 bytes of the mac address identifies the manufacturer. For example, mine starts with 04:1e:64 which is Apple
    04-1E-64 (hex) Apple, Inc
    041E64 (base 16) Apple, Inc
    1 Infinite Loop
    Cupertino CA 95014
    UNITED STATES
. if it starts with 64 then it belongs to

enter your first 3 numbers (first 3 pairs) from your wifi (settings/general/about) (don't use colons in the search)
Not sure about the router as I never tried mac filtering. Each router will behave differently.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there any way to pull out computer Mac addresses from GPO?

    Hello!
I was wondering if there is any way to pull out the mac address from all the computers in the organisation via the group policy?
It would be rather difficult to pull out mac address one by one from each computer.
Appreciate your assistance and advise on this!
    Thank you so much :)

You can use group policy to run a startup or logon script to get the information and write it to some file/database.
You could also get the information remotely using a script.
You could also as your network guy for a list of IPs and MACs they see.
Group policy is intended to make settings, not to get information. However you can
set a startup or logonscript that reads out the information through group policy.
A sample script surely is available in the scriptcenter, but I think help on the specific script is more something or the scripting forums.

  • Packet drop when clients moving from one Access point to another

    HI  All ,
I am new to wireless . I am using  WS-SVC-WISM-1-K9  wism module and using 5 Access points . When my clients are moving from one access point to another we are getting packet drops .
Kindly anyone suggest me what all configuration i need to verify on the controller  for Proper client roaming so that i can resolve my issues..
Please let me know in case of any explanations requiered .
    Thanks  in Advance !!!
    Regards
    Angus

For radius authenticated SSIDs, you need WPA2-aes or wpa1-tkip-CCKM. It depends on what the client supports.
For pre-shared key, any WPA should be decent enough for roaming speed.
If you're on WEP ... no comment.
If you covered the above point, check if it's not a coverage problem. If the 2 APs coverage zone are not overlapping there will be a hole where you don't have signal and logically will have packet drops.

  • How to get MAC address from client machine ?

    Hi dear,
We are implementing security measures for a banking system, so it is required that we track the MAC address of the registered clients along with other parameters. How do we get the MAC address from client machine using ADF or running scripts in client side?
    thanks all

    Hi,
    Welcome to OTN.
Your question has nothing to do with ADF as such. Googling would give you plenty of such topics.

  • Blocking a MAC address from Authentication to AIR-AP1230 12.3(8) JA

Anyone know the CLI commands for blocking a single MAC address from Associating to an AIR-AP1230 running 12.3(8)?

This link may help as well:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080184aa0.html#91655
Change the Action to Block, make the Default Action Forward All, and make the mask 0.0.0.0. Apply this to the dotllradio interface (or sub-interface), filtering inbound packets. This should block the specified MAC address only.

If yo are setting up the iPod vai wifi you have to connect to a network that does not use MAC address filtering.
After it is set up yu can get the MAC from Settings>General>About>WiFi Address

  • Obtain MAC Address from 250 iPads

    Hi all,
I have taken delivery of 250 iPads which I am configuring with OSX Server on a MAC Mini. So far, so good!
Our wireless network uses MAC Address authentication so I have to add each MAC Address to our Cisco Wireless controller.
Without having to go to Settings > General > About and write down the MAC Address from every device, is there a way to obtain the MAC Address from either the box using the barcode, or maybe an App that loads up on screen and shows the MAC Address of the device in a barcode format that I can then quickly scan into an Excel spreadsheet and import?
I feel that i'm about to waste a lot of time going on to each iPad and obtaining the MAC Address
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Jim

If you have the ability to plug them into Apple Configurator, you can connect them with a USB hub and update and supervise them.  This will let you export MAC Addresses and Serial numbers from Configurator to a CSV file that you can use to upload to your wireless controller.  If you need to, be sure to Unsupervise the iPads when you are done.
The info you're looking for may also be available through GSX, but I'm not familiar with everything you can use it for on your end.
