Capturing only software screens without the browser information

Hello, I'm looking for a way to capture only the application part of the screen for a software demo. I've defined the size of the capture area but every time i record, captivate places the capture area at the top of the browser screen. i don't want the url, toolbars and favorites, etc in the demo., only the application area. Pulling down the capture area manually each time is not precise enough and causes small jumps or shifts in the screen captures. Any help would be much appreciated.

Please try use Application>Application region from the recording window. Try to use Internet Explorer as your Browser.

Publish without showing browser information

How can I record or publish without the browser information showing on the published version? I've set my recording area to the application region and also tried with designating a custom area. I'm using IE as the browser. The browser and favorites bar doesn't appear in my recordings, but they do when I publish.
Any help will be most appreciated.

Screen capture would help here so we could see what you are seeing.
But my guess is that you are seeing the browser that is actually presenting the Captivate. Same as you would see the browser when visiting any other web page.
The only way I'm aware of to get rid of that is to press the F11 key to go into full screen mode, or publish the captivate as an EXE.

I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. You can then quit Terminal. Log out and log back in.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

By 3D band are you referring to the Dock area where apps like Safari and Mail live? If so there is no way to remove this.

How to scroll within a datagrid without the browser window scrolling as well

Hi,
I have a datagrid with a vertical scrollbar. When the mouse
is over the datagrid i'd like to use the mouse wheel to scroll
through its contents. However when i do this the main browser
window (which also has a vertical scrollbar) scrolls as well. How
can i prevent the main browser window from scrolling when the mouse
is over the datagrid so that only the contents of the datagrid
scroll?

I found some javascript code that solves this problem. Credit

If you read this article the code below should make sense.
From this article i used the hookEvent and cancelEvent
functions. In my particular case I embed the SWF object inside a
JSP page using some javascript code. After the SWF is loaded i
added the following line of code:

where handleMouseWheel is defined as follows:

When the mouse is over the datagrid in the SWF i can use the

[10.0.7 ESR] Temporary documents are read-only again, even with the "browser.helperAppsbrowser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit" parameter set on "false". Why?

We currently updated from the old 3.6 Firefox to the ESR version 10.0.7. Eversince we've used Firefox we've had a problem with documents being read-only when downloaded temporarily. But we've found the solution by finding the entry
browser.helperAppsbrowser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit
in the about:config and setting it on false. Documents were writeable again, and the world was full of fluffy unicorns and rainbows.
But that doesn't seem to be sufficient when using Firefox 10.0.7 ESR, since that entry is set but all our documents are read-only again. We checked that it is a Firefox issue by deactivating all add-ons to be sure, that it's the browser itself that makes that setting.
What is the cause and how can we change it back to them being writeable again?

While that may be best practice, it doesn't help in this case.
We use a system that creates documents by using templates and filling datafields with individual values based on the case that is being worked on. These documents are saved in the system and are only displayed for information purpose.
Still some of these documents have to be altered. The system offers this possibility by letting you edit the temp file and load it back up, so that the altered document is saved in the system. The document gets a unique file name in the temp folder which includes numbers so that the system can identify which document in the system should be overwritten by the altered version.
Since the documents aren't meant to be on the local harddrive anyway but in the system, "save as..." is no real solution in this case.

I am trying to export all of the separate audio files from Logic Pro X so that I can transfer them into pro Pro Tools, however it won't let me do it without the panning information. The option to untick panning is greyed out. How can I do it?

Look into AIR. It has more capabilities than Flash regarding
to writing info to disk including an SQLite database.
You can create AIR fils with the Flash and Flex IDEs.

FF 3.6.6+ will only open documents within the browser

When a website has a link that points to a document (any type, not just pdf), clicking the link results in the document being opened within FF as opposed to getting a dialog window asking "what to do".
I've checked the options/applications and there are no settings in there for microsoft documents. There was one for adobe which was defaulted to something like "open within FF"

in the "managing file types" link the 3rd step is:
"The Applications panel will display. Select the type of file for which you want to change the default action. (Note that multiple entries may exist for the same file extension, one for each MIME type.)"
The problem is that none of the file types I'm having the problem with exist in this list. Lets use a specific example: microsoft word. Word is not in the application list so I am unable to make any changes to the "default" behavior.
Additionally, if I left-click on the link then it immediately opens it embedded w/in the browser...no option to do otherwise.
If I right-click & save as, it asks me where I want to save it and properly identifies it as a word document

Only black screen on the external monitor with intel-virtual-output

I tried to install bumblebee on my Lenovo W520 with this tutorial:

I can activate my external monitor with "intel-virtual-output" and the monitor is switching on. But I can only see a black screen.
In the settings of gnome I can see my external monitor and configure it - but it shows nothing.
Have you any ideas?

Intel-virtual-output used to work fine but since it got upgraded the virtual output stays black.
I tried downgrading the xf86-video-intel package but there is a dependency conflict.
