Capturing through firewire

is there a way to adjust the brightness as you capture footage through a firewire? does anyone know?

You cannot adjust it as you capture via firewire. That is a straight digital transfer. You can only adjust after you capture. Or if you had a capture card and the deck allowed for brightness to be adjusted upon output.
But via firewire...no.

  • Capture through firewire card

    hello friends,
I want to capture video using firewire port in my laptop. Is
it possible to capture through firewire card?... If so how can i do
    it?. Please help me ....
    regards

When we start the Flash Media Encoder, there is an option for
"Microsoft DV" and we just use that.
If this doesn't appear as an option for you, download
WebCamDV from a company called Orange Micro. The program is only
like $20, but it makes your 1394 port look like a webcam. It will
then appear as a 'device' in encoder and you can use it for audio
    and video.
ps - we are using a Windows PC not a MAC for this.

  • Do I lose High resolution video signal when I capture through FireWire?

I have being reading that capturing through Aja Kona video card is an uncompressed video capture. does it mean, I lose some part of my HD resolution video signal when I capture it through fire wire? Could somebody explain me? Thanks.

No, capturing DV or HDV via firewire is a bit for bit transfer of the original recording ... zero loss.

  • Premiere Pro CS 6 will not capture 1440 x 1080i footage through firewire.

Every time and without exception, whenever I attempt to capture 1440 x 1080i footage from a Sony camera, the application will crash and close.
My capture settings are as follows:
    1) Capturing to external HD
    2) DV/ HDV Device Control and
under "Options" I choose a standard
Sony device being that my camera
    (HVR-Z1U) is not listed.
    3) Using firewire 800
What's going on here? Is there something I am doing wrong. Or is this a bug. Everything else captures fine. For example when I use a Panasonic
DVX or HVX it works perfect.
    Please help.
    Thanks

Thank you Bill, the external HD is connected through high speed usb.
HDV through firewire is not supported. Hard to believe but the response came from Adobe.
Ashamed because I love their products. Oh well.
Judging by the approximate release date of that Radeon HD 6770M (mid-2011) that best USB speed that you have is USB 2.  That is not adequate speed wise for any video editing.
I do not know who you talked to at Adobe but here is a paragraph from CS6 help:    Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Capture HD, DV, or HDV video:
    Capture DV or HDV video
You can capture audio and video from a DV or HDV device by connecting the device to your computer with a FireWire cable. Premiere Pro records the audio and video signal to the hard disk and controls the device through the FireWire port.

  • CS4 Problem Capturing DVHS Through Firewire

PC running 64-bit  WIndows 8.1 and Premiere Pro CS4
2-firewire inputs direct to the motherboard
    DVHS player: JVC HM-DH30000U
I'm trying to capture some video from the JVC HM-DH30000U to Premiere Pro CS4 via Firewire (the only other way is via the analog outputs---even though these were HD VTR's, HDMI was not introduced until later).  While CS4 will see the video when I have set the capture settings to HDV, and control the deck over firewire (it will not see or control the device when it is set to DV), I do not receive any audio from the firewire link, but I do get audio from the analog outputs.
I know that the D-VHS records its video in MPEG-2, and these tapes are standard-definition 720x480 recorded on the HS speed at 28.8 Mbps, which is obviously a higher Mbps than HDV's 25Mbps.  So could there be some issue with a D-VHS MPEG stream when compared to a HDV MPEG stream that is slightly different that would cause the audio not to be captured over firewire?
Or could there be an issue with the 64 bit WIndows 8.1 that I'm running and the D-VHS, considering that D-VHS was released during the 32-bit era?

It was pointed out to me that the capture preset was set to 720p24 and should've been set to NTSC 720 x 480. Apparently FCP will not capture when that is set that way. Thanks for reading. Hope it helps anyone.

  • Capturing  through Sony HDV using firewire800 to 400 adaptor is not recognizing can any body help me solve this

I am trying to capture using firewire 800 to 400 adaptor through a Sony HDV VTR. The VTR is not recognizing can some body help me solve this problem.
I am using FCP7 and IMAC with 10.6.8 version os
I dont have a 6 pin or 400 firewire port in the system

    Let's start with basics.
Does your computer recognize that there is a VTR attached?
    • Open up system profiler>Hardware>FireWire.  Does your machine show up?
If no, you need to figure out if the problem lies with the VTR, the cable, the adapter or your computer.
My guess is with the adapter. A number of people have expressed frustration getting fw400 device to work through fw800 ports.
If that's your problem, see if you can find an older Mac w/ fw400 ports or a dedicated fw800 to 400 cable.
    good luck,

ps - In "locking the barn after the paddle has been lost upstream" mode, this is why non-expandable computers like the iMac are so problematic. A MacBookPro with the expresscard 34 slot or a MacPro with 3 slots can work around these kind of issues. A closed box like the iMac is a dead end. Sorry.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Capture Question (Firewire to USB Converter)

Does Premiere Pro CS3 support capture through a Firewire to USB Converter?  More specifically, we have one particular PC laptop that does not have a firewire port, only USB 2.0.  So we were thinking of getting a firewire to USB converter.  Will that work for capturing footage from our Mini DV camera?
Camera is Canon XH-A1S HD and a firewire cable will be running from this camera to the firewire to USB converter, then a USB cable will be running out of the converter into the dual core laptop with Windows 7, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 460M video card.
    Thank you!

Might work then again it might not. Have not heared of any positive results. In other words imo its a waste of money.
You need a real firewire connection.

  • VHS Capture Through Mini DV Camera...

I am sending the "OUT" of my VCR to the "IN" of my mini DV camera to capture VHS tapes into Premiere through firewire.
Will this cause a level of compression from the mini DV camera or is it simply a pass through with NO compression?
    Thanks!

No, DV is a mild compression. Let's be clear - "uncompressed" video is only used for the highest quality broadcast-type work and takes specialized hard drives and capture cards to work with, and is severe overkill considering VHS is the source. DV is a great choice for what you are doing. Consider that DV uses about 5:1 compression, while DVD is 25:1 or so. To put things in perspective, there are practically no cameras out there that even shoot "uncompressed" video, as they all use some type of compression (not talking about RED or super-high end units).

  • Desaturation of Colour while capturing through Cinewave Capture Card

I am Running FCP HD 4.5 with a Targa Cinewave capture card- Captures are coming out dull and colourless when captured through the Cinewave- when i capture from DV via Firewire- the colour remains the same- any ideas?
I have tried replacing BNC cables and have tried using different source machines, i have also tried capturing through different compressions- normally I use TARGA Cine Pal YUV (to DV) unbalanced audio Pro Analogue- but i have also tried a number of different compresions using composite inputs- with no luck- This is completely throwing me and i'm having to turn down work- any ideas?
Dual 1.25 Ghz Pwer PC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.5)   FCP HD (4.5) with Cinewave 4.6 RT capture card

Hi Jim- nice thought but i have tried a variety of source machines- DVD, BSP, VHS and Umatic to be precise- I have them all rigged to FCP via a switcher/ composite signal- when i monitor the source machine output i have nice clean bright colours- when i look at the output of the Computer/ FCP the picture is now murkey and washed out- old media i have loaded in on my system still plays out fine- so the problem seems to be when i capture- ie the Capture card/ breakout box- i've also asked the same question on pinnacles forum- although they are always very slow to respond!
Just to update i also tried capturing via Component from BSP but the picture was still murky! any more thoughts?

  • Capturing through Canopus ADVC110

    Hi
I'm trying to capture some DV Footage to Final Cut. I'm trying to capture through a Canopus ADVC110. Whenever I click Capture Now and error message comes up stating that there is no video present. Device control works fine however, and I can see the timecode meter moving in FCP so I know that there is communication going on. Also I can output from FCP into the deck through the Canopus no problem.
Now I can plug in to the rear Firewire port on the G5 and capture. However I would really rather capture through the Canopus, as the tower is in the basement in a machine room. So it would be much easier if I could just plug into the Canopus instead of having to trek downstairs if I need to change a tape or something.
Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Another editor is using the Canopus right now, but IIRC, there was one switch that was set differently than the others.
I do believe you have to use Non-controllable device when the Canopus is inbetween your deck and the mac. (can't remember offhand)...maybe not.
I believe System Profile should see the Canopus. What other FW devices are plugged in (i.e. the 'unknown device') If you have more than one FW device, it may be causing conflicts, being on the same FW bus.
I'm confused about something. You said the tower is downstairs. Where is the deck?...and what kind is it? Please outline more specifically where your equipment is, how it's routed, what type it is.
    I see you're on OS 10.4.1 w/FCP 5.1.4...what version of QT?
    Post back,

  • IPod 3g works with usb, not through firewire

    Hello everybody.
That's a long time the problem happened, but now it gives me a big trouble because I can't change music on my iPod 3G 10go.
In fact, iPod was recognized through firewire by my iMac G3 until I installed Tiger. But charging is OK. After having installed that great OS, I can interract with iPod only through USB. That's a big problem because there's only USB 1 on iMac G3.
I've restored iPod, reinstalled it, having too repaired my iMac G3 disk with Disk Utility. But it still doesn't work.
So here's a resumee of all things I've done :
-Reinstalled iPod softwae (last version available)
-It does not work with my new iMac Core2duo, so that's not a problem with one of my two computers.
-That shouldn't be a problem with firewire cable because charging is OK.
-That shouldn't be a problem with dock connector because it works fine when I use iPod on Universal Dock with Apple Remote.

    Hi Xavier
Yes many people seem to be having this problem since installing the new iTunes 7 and ipod software 2.3, however no one seems to know what is the real cause. My 3G iPod was perfect for years, and since last week I have been unable to connect to my Macbook Pro with firewire. However it is fine with USB.
People keep telling me to restore my ipod to an older software version (older than 2.3), however the 3G ipod is unable to restore using USB, and requests the firewire connection to restore.
Thus, I connected with USB and restored using iTunes on windows (using bootcamp on my MBP). However now my ipod is Windows formatted, and is having problems importing music in OS X.
Just wanted to let you know that others are having this problem, and we are waiting for Apple to issue a response/fix/update.

  • External Hard Drive Doesn't Mount on Desktop through FireWire 400

I have an external hard drive that mounts on the desktop when connecting to my iMac via USB, but it fails to appear on the desktop when connecting via FireWire 400. It was glitchy in Tiger as well, and had problems since installing Leopard. I was able to get it to work once, after using Leopard Cache Cleaner (a 3rd party program), disconnecting the hard drive, and unplugging the iMac. I moved my computer this week, and had to unplug it and when I powered it back up, the hard drive doesn't appear on the desktop again through FireWire 400 (still works fine with USB). It also doesn't appear in Disk Utility through FireWire.
What good are FireWire if they fail to recognize a hard drive so often?!

upgrade to latest system, that computer will accept, then try again

  • I need to transfer information through firewire cable and could not remember how it works, please, help

Please help, I need urgently to transfer information through firewire cable and I could not remember how it was that I do it. I've connected the computers and restarted one of them by pushing T on startup but it did not work.

Shut down both Macs.  Connect them via FW cable.
On the Mac you want to copy FROM.  Start up but make sure you are holding down the T key as soon as you press the power button.  And keep holding down the T key until the FireWire emblem appears on the screen - that's the indicator that the Mac is in Target Disk Mode (TDM).  Note: if you release the T key too soon the Mac won't go into Target Disk Mode.
Start up the second Mac.  The first Mac will appear in the Finder as a disk.  You can use the Finder to copy whatever you want from the Mac that's in TDM.
When you're done, shut down both Macs.  The Mac that's in Target Disk Mode can be shut down by holding down the power button until it turns off.

  • Timed video out through firewire?

    Hey everyone,
In Final Cut Pro 5, is there a way to set print to video on a timer? For example, print to video on Friday at 2PM.... Or simply, just play the entire video in the timeline at a specific time?
I'm assuming not, so does anyone know of any program out there that can play Quicktime videos out through Firewire on some kind of timer system?
I know this is an unusual request... and I can explain why exactly I want this if anybody wants me to, but it's kind of a long story =)
    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks,
    Dean.

You can easily set up an Automator script to work with an iCal event...
use the script for PLAY MOVIE instead of record new video that I used here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/QTAuto.swf
The video was done in haste... and there are a few errors in it... but you'll get an idea of what to do.
    Good luck,

  • Role Tab(section) is not getting captured through CATT script on PI/XI.

Role Tab(section) is not getting captured through CATT script on PI/XI system
I am trying to create CATT script for user creation and role assignment on PI/XI. Every screen except ROLE and GROUPS is getting captured.

    Hi Plaban,
I have had the same problem in the past but I didn't investigate too far.
What I prefer to do is have 2 scripts.
    1. User Creation using SU01
    2. Role assignment using SU10
