  • Trouble scrolling on the main menu using my dvd player.

I can't seem to move to the scenes button when I'm on the main menu using my DVD player. This function seems to work fine on my computer. Before I burn another (very long) disc and try again, does anyone have any suggestions?
    Natalie

If I have two buttons, one for Subtitles on and one for Subtitles off, how do I make it so that the one that is chosen is highlighted?
You set it by changing the menu's property for the default button. This is one of the reasons a separate menu is generally used. If you have a single menu with 3 buttons ("play movie," "subtitle on," and "subtitle off"), and you set the default to "Active Subtitle Track," then your "play movie" button won't ever be the default.
To play with this and to decide how you want your disk to work, create a test EN project with 2 menus. Rename one of them "Main Menu" with 2 buttons "Play Movie" and "Subtitle Setup." Rename the second menu "Subtitle Setup" with 3 buttons, "Subtitle On," "Subtitle Off," and "Main Menu." As noted, the "Default Button" property for the menu "Subtitle Setup" will be "Active Subtitle Track." The button "Subtitle On," using specify link, will link to its own menu, default button, but will specify Subtitle 1. Same for the button "Subtitle Off," except that it will specify Subtitle Off. The Main Menu button simply links to the main menu.
Note that in Encore preview, do not use your computer mouse to hover over the buttons. It will trick you into thinking that you have or have not set the behavior correctly. Use the little remote function in the bottom of the preview window.

  • Cannot use BD DVD Player: WIN DVD MFC application has stopped working

Tried to install my old version of WinDVD and failed and in the process may have accidentally deleted a file,
for now whenever I try and use BD DVD Player I get the following message:
'WIN DVD MFC application has stopped working '
I tried using restore point but still get it, can anyone advise please?

It will be interesting to know which notebook model do you have.
Anyway, in my opinion there is some software conflict. I can imagine both players use same modules or plug-ins and there is conflict.
I dont know what solution can be but maybe you should remove both players, restart your notebook and make clean BD player in hope it will works properly.

  • Can I use my dvd player with apple tv?

I just got an apple tv unit.  I have dvd's stored to a hard drive and want to stream to the tv through the apple tv unit.  However, the dvd player will not work when I do this.  It works fine if I play on the MacBook, but one of the primary reasons I got the apple tv unit was for streaming.  Is there an app or download to solve this problem?  Or, should I use a different dvd playing program or application?

Yes, you should be able to.

  • DVD Remote Control buttons don't work when using regular DVD player

I created a DVD using DVD Studio Pro (version 3.0.2) and am unable to navigate through any menus or buttons using the DVD players remote control. I can press the play button on the actual DVD player and play the movie. How can I fix this issue? Any suggestions would be helpful!
I never changed the default setting on the file I made and the DVD works just fine in the simulator as well as any computer DVD player. Also, is there a way to make sure the DVD will play on all DVD players even if it doesn't read burned DVDs?
    Thanks for the help!

Not sure if I can add anything here - you're in good hands! I'd like to know how you constructed the menus - did you use photoshop layers for the background and overlay, or did you use a pict file? Are these motion menus or static?
About the compatibility - a burned disc will only ever be about 85% compatible with the number of DVD players out there, and if a DVD player states that it cannot read from DVD-R or DVD+R discs then it most likely won't play your disc. The only way to approach full compatibility is to have the disc replicated, but the cost of this usually means it is not worth while for anything less than 500 to 1000 discs at a time. If you are using DVD±R then all you can do is take steps to make sure the disc is as compatible as it can be, such as keeping the MPEG encode less than 7.5MBPS, using AC3 audio, not applying paper labels and so on.
Compatibility is getting better in general, this summer I have burned in excess of 90 individual projects on DVD-R (and duplicated each one up to seven times each) for playback on consumer players and only one came back (so far). When I looked at it there was a chunk missing from the surface of the disc, which probably explained the error!

  • Clock freezes after using Apple DVD Player

I am having a small and annoying issue with the Apple DVD Player (v 4.6.5). This just started happening recently. Everytime I run a DVD (or video TS file, etc) on the software player-it performs as usual. After quitting the application and choosing to eject the disc, I notice there is a longer lag from when I first used the computer, then the little colored wheel of death spins, and eventually Apple DVD Player closes.
The problem, however, is after the application is closed out, my time freezes in the status bar in the upper right hand corner of the screen. (As I write this it says 1:16 and the time in the apple "date and time" preferences panel of OSX says it's 2:14-which is the real time) If I drag the cursor up to the time status bar in the upper right hand corner, it turns into the spinning color wheel, and back again once dragged out.
Once the computer restarts, the time in the upper right goes back to normal with no spinning wheel (until I open Apple DVD Player and quit out of it again). I know this is not an earth-shattering issue, but it is fairly annoying and abnormal. If anyone has suggestions, please help.

It sounds like you found your answer but I also wanted to mention that this is a known BUG when using DVD Player and the Digital Optical Out of a G5. If you look at activity monitor when the Clock is dead and you get the Beach Ball the SystemUIServer will be listed as not responding. If you Force quit this process everything should start working again. As long as the LoginWindow Process is running the SystemUIServer will restart when needed after the force quit.
HOWEVER, The other part of this bug with Digital Optical Out is that sometimes the LoginWindow Process will also stop responding. In this case a Log-Out is the only way to correct the problem. The third part of this bug is sometimes the Finder also stops responding but a Relaunch will fix that.
As I said it sounds like you found your problem but I wanted to post this incase others out there using the Digital Optical Out read this and don't correct their problem.
Also, If you were using the "DOO" by deleting the .plist will set the DVD player back to SYSTEM falsely making one think the problem is fixed.
Last I know this is a known bug because I submitted it as a bug to Apple and received an e-mail stating they know of this problem already.

  • MacBook pro using Yosemite dvd player is hanging

With a MacBook Pro using Yosemite 10.10.1 when I try to show a DVD, the player hangs whenever I try to scan forward or backward. This happens regardless of whether I use the controls drop down menu or the buttons on the controller. The DVD Player info says App Version: 5500.56, Framework Version: 5.9.0.
    thanks for any help.

You need a Thunderbolt or mini DisplayPort to composite converter like this one:

Yikes, unless you can find one for much less than that, I'd put than kind of money toward a TV with HDMI connections.

  • Playing an iMovie using a DVD player

What format (if any) is needed in order to play an iMovie (burned onto a DVD) on a regular DVD player that would then show on a television? Is this something that is possible?

You need to open iDVD and bring your iMovie project in to create a DVD. Start with the iDVD tutorials http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/idvd/
Why? Compression. An iMovie project uses the lossless DV format, which eats lots of Gigs (about 13 Gigs per hour). An iMovie project must be very short indeed to fit in a 4.7 Gig DVD. Plus, your project must be converted into mpeg format for your set top DVD player to read. iDVD does this for you; it compresses your project and encodes it for use in a DVD player. Just keep your movie within the 120 minute limit, and going from iMovie to finished DVD is pretty straightforward.
Tip: When your iDVD project is finished, choose Save As Disc Image (not Burn) and let iDVD do all the encoding, rendering, etc. (This can take several hours.) When it's done you'll have a disc image file that you can preview in your Mac's DVD Player app, store on disc, and burn in Finder or with Toast as many times as you like. If you simply Burn in iDVD you will wait for hours and in the end only have 1 DVD.

  • Digital noise in Logic after using Mac DVD player

I have Logic Pro 7.2, a dual 1.8 G5 with OS 10.4.7, 3GB of RAM, and loads of hard drive space. Every time I open a song in Logic after having watched a DVD using the Mac DVD player, all the instruments, both midi and audio instruments, just sound like static. If I trash all the Logic preferences and start over it clears it up but who wants to reset their preferences every time. Thanks, Steve.

Thanks to the two who have replied so far to my question. I'll check that out. By the way, I'm new to this, and I've got 67 messages from "Apple Discussions Subscriptions" since I posted this question. Can someone tell me how not to receive those messages. Thanks again, Steve.

  • HiFi for use with DVD Player?

I am considering purchasing the HiFi for use with my Ipod but also as a placeholder for a speaker system to be purchased later. I want to use it with my DVD player to watch movies using the audio input port on the back.
I have read that one can do this, but have not been able to confirm that it is possible. If so, what cables would I need and has anyone tried it to see how she sounds?
    Thanks,
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Yes, it proves in my case, there are 2 ways to do it i.e. analogue or digital. I suggest that you should try the analogue first, you need an audio cable - one end is RCA for connection with the DVD and the other end - Minijack to iPod HiFi.
Of course, you can connect with an optical toslink cable which sounds better - you can have a look of this cable, but you need to add the mini adapter which should included

  • Did Apple Break HD-DVD Playback with Mountain Lion using Apple DVD Player?

First of all, kindly spare me the commentary about Blu-Ray beating HD-DVD. Agreed and not the question. I have perfectly good reasons for using HD-DVD and it works very well for my purposes.
I authored an HD-DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2. as I have done many times before on Snow Leopard, but this time on Mountain Lion. When I try to play the HD-DVD, either from the physical disk from a disk image, the menu appears, but when the play button is pressed, the menu stays on screen, but the player shows the timecode of the movie playing, but with no sound or picture.
Thinking that perhaps the menu got corrupted, I put the same HD-DVD into a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, and it played perfectly! Conclusion: Not a DVD Studio Pro problem.
Thinking that it might be DVD Player, I copied DVD Player 5.4 from the Snow Leopard MacBook Pro to the Mountain Lion MacBook Pro (which was running DVD Player 5.6), and the HD-DVD still had the same issue on the Mountain Lion MacBook Pro, under either of the DVD Player versions. Conclusion: Not a DVD Player issue.
The HD-DVD does mount and initialize, so it's not a hardware issue with the optical drive.
Conclusion: It would appear to me that it's an OS issue with Mountain Lion breaking (either intentionally or unintentionally), HD-DVD playback. Anyone know anything more about this issue? Anyone else saddened to see Apple turn into Microsoft circa 2005, and the MacOS turn into Vista? I haven't seen much of anything about it in the forums, which is why I'm posting it here.
Thanks Apple. I just spent the better part of 3 days transcoding and authoring this HD-DVD, only to have you screw it up for me 2 days before my film festival (the perfectly good reason for using HD-DVD). Kindly spare me the, "Why don't you encode a ProRes blah blah blah quicktime movie." Heard it all before.
I knew I would regret upgrading to Mountain Lion, and I do more and more each and every day as I continually find more things that it broke. Yet another reason to add to my list for downgrading to Snow Leopard. I'm up to about 30 of them. Or to abandon Final Cut for Adobe products.
Thanks and sorry for the rant, but I'm justifiably frustrated.

Update: The Apple Store in Nashua, New Hampshire replicated the issue on their own hardware, so yes, Apple did break HD-DVD playback with Mountain Lion (it does still work in Lion, they discovered). The Apple Store reported the issue to engineering, but the more people that report the issue, the more likely Apple will do something about it. Thanks Apple.

  • Using a DVD player.  I want to connect my iPad to a DVD player.  Is there a way to connect it to a VGA (need female adapters)

  • After some upgrades on my Satellite P200 cannot use HD-DVD Player

Since I upgraded my PC Satellite P200 (BIOS, Driver ATI HD2600, Package VAP and HD-DVD Player), I can no longer read my HD-DVDs
Error message is: "Unable to send the video to an external device. Please turn off the display device."
I had no problem before the upgrades.
I have no problem with my DVD player on medias.
    What happens?
My drive is a HDDVD SD-L802B.

I installed on my PC (P200-1DE / PSPB6E / OS Vista) proposed TEMPO software.
This software referred me to the site Toshiba and proposed several updates to:
    - The BIOS (2008)
    - HD2600 Drivers ATI card (2008)
    - HD DVD Player
    - VAP Package
At this time, I try to find the references on the site, but I am surprised ; they are no longer in the "Downloads & Drivers BIOS site TOSHIBA
I downloaded the drivers on my PC.
I can give you the exact references tonight (I write on another PC).
Were there any problems in the proposed updates on the period of November 2007 to the end of February 2008 ...
Besides, the problem of reading the HD DVD, I have not noticed any major problems except perhaps:
    - I start a bit slower (It seems to me that this is the connection to the Internet via WiFi, which slowed the start)
    - an error when burning a CD
    - a problem of installing software as the DVD no longer wanted to stop rotating; I had to stop and to do again PC installation
    Do I go back? ...
I made a Ghost of my machine before these updates, but if it is a problem of BIOS, I think I will not be able to do

  • Using Apple DVD PLayer...

I can't seem to open my Video_TS file so that I can view my home movie before I burn a copy. In fact, my disk image file of the movie is inaccessible in the program (file name is pale grey shade under 'Open DVD Media'). Does anyone know how to remedy this?
    Vincenso

Is it possible you also have a DVD in the super drive while attempting to mount the disc image at the same time?
If you have a dvd in the drive already, it will default to this instead of your mounted disc image.
So long as the image is mounted (w/o anything in the S-Drive /tray then double click to mount the disc image) DVD player should see the disc and play it. Hope this helps but if not, come on back.

  • Putting slideshow on DVD for use in DVD player

I have a slideshow that I need to burn onto a DVD for use in a regular DVD home player, not in a computer. Can I do this with iPhoto? If yes, how, and if no, then can I use iMovie instead?
    This is urgent!

Urgent? Then in iPhoto Share -> Send to iDVD. You need to create the actual DVD in that app not iPhoto or iMovie.
