Capturing video only- no audio

Hello- I have sound when I play back the tape in my video camera-but when I capture to FCE there is no sign of the audio and no audio upon playback. I put in a tape that I captured successfully from before(including audio) and same problem with that capture- no audio...
I tried changing to "Canvas Playback"- no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.-Thanks.

Hello- No sound waves. One thing I checked and am not sure of-in "system settings"-Scratch disk-there are 4 headings of "Video capture", "audio capture", "video render" and "audio render"
Three of them are checked off- except "audio capture" this box is grayed out and I can't make it active. Is this the issue?
Other things seam a little buggy also... I'm wondering if I need to reload the software?

Captured video only plays audio through one speaker

I captured video from a mini dv and when I play the clip in FCP the audio only plays out of one speaker and it only shows on one audio meter in FCP. I captured this video with a DSR-20 and it displayed NS Audio on the screen. Both meters were playing on the deck and in FCP while previewing and also through my headphones. Does anyone know what I need to do this to correct this?

First I'd verify how the audio was captured. Did you have it set for Ch 1 + Ch 2, or Stereo, or Ch 1 [only], or Ch 2 [only] or as a mono mix?
Next, verify that you actually had two channels of audio on the tape, not just one channel.
Assuming that there are two channels on the tape, load the captured clip into the Viewer and see if there is an audio waveform on both channels. If there is, check to see if both channels are panned the same - if they are, pan one left and one right or both to center.
If there were no waveforms on one of the channels, try capturing a short segment of the same tape using another Firewire cable.

I see what you mean....Premiere Elements 10 appears to be the last version that had options for the user to select Capture Video and/or Audio in the its Capture Window.
If you are doing DV data capture firewire into the Premiere Elements 11 Capture Windows and want a final file without audio and you cannot do this at the camera level, then consider....
1. Do the Capture "to the Timeline" - video linked to audio result on the project's Video Track 1
a. Right click the Timeline DV AVl and select Delete Audio and then edit accordingly.
or
b. Import the DV AVI but, when you go to export it, in the export settings, remove the check mark next to Audio so that the export contains only the video portion.
Publish+Share/Computer/AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard
Please let us know if any of that worked for you.

Video only playing audio

On my PC (Windows7 and ITunes10.6), my music videos only play audio. It did play both video and audio, but currenly only audio is working. Any advise is appreciated.

Purchased music videos only play audio

I have about a dozen of video clips I bought on iTunes.
None of them now play in video mode. Only the audio. I rechecked the authorization. Everything is fine.
I can play other video clips not purchased on itunes. And I can also play the movies I bought on itunes, and others as well.
I thought this could be a problem with my hard drive being replaced two weeks ago, and reinstalling everything through system dvd that came with computer + Time Machine back up, but I also downloaded the most recent "free video of the week" and it only plays in audio mode as well.
Anybody has a clue?

found a temporary solution, but it still strange. for each clip I did "get info" and changed the media type from "video clip" to "films". Now they play just fine.

Capture video, only pulling MONO

When I capture a clip in FCP the sound that it captures in only in mono. Even when I go to my scratch and watch the clip it is in mono. When I open the clip in FCP it plays both speakers but still appears to be mono. I have scanned through all of my capture settings and nothing has mono selected. When I capture the same clip in imovie it comes through just fine with both left and right. The signal coming from the camera is stereo. Any ideas or help would be great. I can deal with it, but it just seems odd.

In L&C go to top right tabs and choose clip settings.
Do you see one of the audio speakers grayed out and the button
" Toggle on stereo/mono button" showing two tiny circles separated?
If so hit the toggle mono/stereo button.

Dynamic Link After Effects to Premiere (Video Only, No Audio)?

Can you Dynamic link an After Effects file so that audio does not interleave into the premiere pro project? I just want to link the video part of the comp and do not want audio data in my asset.
*I already know that I can double click the asset in premiere and drag video only from there. I want to strip audio from the after effects linked asset so when i drag the asset from the bin to the timeline it will not try to add audio also.

If you unlink the audio and video in Premiere Pro
Then you select only the video layer to replace with After Effects Composition
You'll end up with the Audio automatically turned off in AE when the dynamic link composition is created.
You get the same result if you leave the audio layer linked but you lock it before enabling the dynamic link.
The advantage to doing this is that you don't have to mess with audio in After Effects. There is no additional disadvantage to locking or unlinking the audio track because any time you replace elements in PPro with AE compositions the Audio and Video are unlinked. You'll need to re-link them if you plan move the tracks around at all because you loose the out of sync warnings that you'll normally get.

MP4's tagged as music video only play audio + static picture?

Hi everyone,
Is it normal that MP4 files, that have been tagged as Music Video (Itunes Media Type), only show a static image on playback instead of a moving image.
I assumed that a music video would show the video too. Hence the tag name "Music VIDEO"
So at this point, I'm looking at a still image. Audio plays fine though.

This same exact thing happened to me just recently. My videos played fine since I got my iPod in December and now they just play audio and are organized in with my "music" menu. I've looked around and a lot of people seem to have this happening to them also, but no one has had a real solution that I've found. I think it may have something to do with an iTunes update since the problem happened after I updated.

i have an iPod video and iTunes on an hp running windows xp. when i download a tv show, it downloads fine, but it only plays the audio, not the visual of the tv show. it does the same for podcast(idk if podcast's are supposed to have video). i was wondering how to fix this. Thank You

Have you installed any third-party QuickTime codecs (such as DivX) or iTunes enhancers or plugins since your videos last worked? If so, try removing them and see if matters improve. If not, or you haven't installed any third-party items, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling QuickTime. You can get the download from the QuickTime tab above; just select the option to download without iTunes.
Caution: as with any significant software installation, it's wise to make a backup of your important documents - in this case your purchased tracks and videos - before attempting the installation, just in case something would happen to go wrong.

IMovie 9.0.2 - iSight camera captures video but no audio?

I tried to add a video of myself by ticking the "camera" button and using the iSight camera.
The video is fine but there is no audio.
I have the internal mike selected in System Preferences and everything works OK if I use PhotoBooth to record.
But when I record from iMovie I get no audio.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

After a search I found a similar problem from 2 years ago but with no solution.
I then decided to trash the preferences and found 2 files which I trashed.
On restarting iMovie I was able to record audio from the iMac mike.
Only the second, larger file was replaced so I think the other may have been a remnant from iMovie 6.
Whether it was the presence of 2 .plists that caused the problem I do not know?
It may just have been a corrupt .plist.

when I capture a film from a camera, the audio does not get captured!
the movie is ok, but audio is missing!
I can see in the settings that video and audio is captured!
could it be that the settings on the camera are wrong?

Can a crossfade transition apply to video only, not audio?

I want to have a Cross dissolve transition, but that does not affect the audio. Is this possible without extracting the audio?
What I mean is the video will have a croos dissovle transition, but the audio just goes straight into clip 2 with no audio crossfade?

Yes expand = extract audio = detach audio, different words for the same thing.
What I want is to be able to add corssfades without expanding (extracting or detaching audio) so that it only applies to the video. Thanks I'll investigate that link.
