Capturing video using usb webcam in QTPRO

I have a duo core mac mini and QTPRO 7. I am preparing a lecture for teachers to record their demonstrations and lectures and then play them back to students. I am trying to use QTPRO and usb webcam to keep cost down for teachers. I have installed Maccam 8.8 and can recognize and choose usb camera in QTPro. I can even change compression and setting and capture video and audio. The problem comes when I stop the recording in QTPro. The newly created movie opens and then....the spinning ball of death starts to spin and never quits. I try to force quit QT (which isn't responding) but it won't quit. I have to shut down my mini and restart. At which point the movie created can be openned and played and everything is fine, until I try to capture another movie. It works but this is combersome. This is really inconsiderate of Mac, to make it so you can only use firewire cameras, of which I think only the isight is left. Used to be you could plug almost anything into a Mac and it worked. That was something that Made them great. Now well, lets limit the buyers. This problem also occurs on my MacBook Pro.
duo core mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you can afford it, use an iSight camera ( much better quality than most webcams, and AF as well) and Quicktime Broadcaster ( free) to record the video.
If you search you will find a few articles on how to use QTB to record to your HDD. Very good quality in good light.

  • Selecting microphone when capturing video from the webcam

    Using Final Cut Pro X
I want to capture video from my webcam into Final Cut.  I have a USB microphone (Yeti) with which I want to record the audio.  I cannot find an option to select my input source for audio when capturing this footage.  Final Cut seems to default to my microphone on my webcam, which causes echoing and noise. I can select the USB mic when doing a voiceover, but when I capture video I cannot find an option to select my input.  I've made my USB mic my default device in Sys Prefs, but that doesn't work.  Any other ideas?
    Options
    1.  Figure out how to change the default input for webcam capture in Final Cut
    OR
    2.  Use another program.  I've also tried to do the same in both QuickTime and iMovie, and they both capture audio only from the webcam as well.
Everything I've found online talks about voiceover.  I don't want that.  I want to capture video with it.
    Suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you.

Thanks.  Don't know why I didn't see it.  That arrow is pretty small.
I do still have an issue that I cannot figure out.  I'm using the same mic for webcam recording (now in QT thanks to Luis) and in Final Cut for voiceovers.  Though I'm still on the same Mic the sound is not the same.  It's close, but the sound on the voiceover sounds cleaner and clearer.  I'm sitting in the same spot speaking the same way, but the sound quality difference is noticable.  Not sure why.
It seems that the difference is in how each software deals with it.
It may be that QT is sampling audio differently from FCP X somehow, or using a different audio codec or whatever.
Just guessing, I really have no concrete knowledge.
Oh, wait: there are a few things that I can notice, after trying a small example: the QT audio is AAC at 44.1 KHz,
the FCP X is AIFF at 48KHz. Compression and sample rate are different.

  • Acquire RCA video using USB adapter and LabView

    Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to acquire RCA video using LabVIEW. I plan to use a RCA to USB adapter in order to connect the RCA device to my computer. What would I need to capture video using IMAQ USB driver? Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Capture video via usb elgato or canopus

I can't find how to change my capture source, or even where the capture preferences is.
I'm trying to capture video in FCE using the Elgato usb analog in/usb out device (same thing happens with the canopus device) .
The device works fine with it's own software, but I need to get it going within FCE, and can't find the menu window to even select the source.
I'm sure it's something simple I'm overlooking, but thanks for your help.

FCE will not capture video via USB. With the DV Converter preset you can capture from a FireWire device. This is selected in Easy Setup.

  • Can't capture video using iSight camera in QuickTime 7.4 (92)

OK, I see that there are plenty of "bugs" with Quicktime Version 7.4 (92), but I don't see the problem I am having, posted anywhere. Here goes...
I cannot capture video using my [Firewire] iSight camera on my CoreDuo MacMini. I definitely used to be able to do this. When I go to File>New Movie Recording, I get a back/blank Movie Recording window and that's it. I click on the Red/Record button and nothing happens. The timer doesn't even advance. Just sits there. When I try to stop the recording, I get the following message:
*"Recording failed because no data was received.*
*Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing."*
I can still capture audio, although had some problems and had to "downgrade" to version 7.3.x and subsequently reinstalled 7.4. Now the audio works but still no video.
    A few things:
    1. YES, the iSight camera works - I can use it in iMovie, iChat, Photobooth, etc. - for both video and audio.
    2. As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video.
    3. I re-installed Version 7.4 and the audio problems cleared up, but again, still unable to capture video.
    3. All software updates installed.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

See QuickTimeKirk’s posting in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1357579&tstart=0
    Try the following:
    Trash com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    It's located in your account:
    HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
Delete the file, restart (a new .plist will be created) and quicktime hopefully will work again w/o doing an Archive & Install.
+If you want to do an A&I:+
Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 Scroll down to "Archive and Install”
IMPORTANT: Maker sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I?
    Good luck!

  • Capturing data from usb webcam

I'm interested in the acquisition of footage from a usb webcam into labVIEW. I have the professional development system and downloaded NI-IMAQ which I believe i'll need from reading online material.
I don't really know where to start to link the camera with labview so any material would be a great help...
Final question, is it a big undertaking acquiring data from a video camera in labVIEW? it's just i've limited time to work on a project and want to know if it's worthwhile undertaking or if it will be very time heavy. I've a few months labVIEW development experience if that would give an indication to anyone...
    Strokes

    Hi,
First your USB Cam needs to be DirectShow Compliant.
Then you will need NI-IMAQdx from the Vision Acquisition Software 2009 (supports LV 8.2 and higher) or higher to acquire images from USB cameras. The NI IMAQ driver is to capture images from framegrabbers, and the NI SmartCamera, not for USB. There is also a own IMAQ USB Library for the Vision Acquisition 8.6 but since you need to buy the Acquisition Software I would recommend to use 2009 or higher where we added the DirectShow Support to IMAQdx.
The Vision Acquisition Software is just for image acquisition and processing. If you want to do image processing you will need the Vision Development Module.
And when doing a search at ni.com you should find some articles, examples and tutorials too.
I can't estimate how much time you will need get that running, but you could just try to run one of the examples for IMAQdx in LabVIEW and then see how it works.

  • Capturing video using XLR8's InterView device?

Since I prefer the QT software to the InterView software that came with my S-video to USB capture device... Is there a way to use QTPro instead?

I believe QuickTime Pro can only use Firewire connected cameras or devices. The same is true of iMovie.
USB 2 data rates are comparable to those found with Firewire 400 connections but the software (made by Apple) still only uses Firewire (also an Apple invention).
Years ago I used a Hollywood Dazzle DV Bridge and it offered S-Video input and Firewire output which worked great for Apple software.

  • Save video file usb webcam

    Hi forum,
Currently i have USB Logitech webcam which i will use for my project. I have successfully acquire the video image by using USB Acquisition. My question is: is it possible to save the video to an avi file while labview is acquiring the image from webcam? I have tried to look at Grab and Save to AVI which is in example but an error occured teeling me that no interface is found. How to solve this?

    Hi Massi,
First off, this thread is quite old (2010). In the future, create a new thread so the community will be able to assist you better.
If your camera is DirectShow compliant, the IMAQdx drivers should allow you to capture fames in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). Check first if you are able to perform a grab in MAX. You can also configure your camera’s parameters here as well (to make sure it is outputting at 30 fps).
To record the output in LabVIEW without missing any frames, there are a couple of examples that should provide the functionality we are looking for. In the NI Example Finder (found by in LabVIEW going to Help >> Find Examples) the first example is located under Hardware Input and Output >> IMAQdx >> High-level >> Grab and Detect Skipped Buffers. This VI will allow you to acquire from the camera and see if you are missing fames.
The next example is located under Hardware Input and Output >> IMAQ >> File Input and Output >> Grab and Save to AVI. This example uses IMAQ drivers (not the IMAQdx drivers that we need to use with the camera); the coding for saving to an AVI file is all we need. If you combine these two examples, you should be able to save to an AVI file and see if you are missing any frames.

  • Using usb webcam with facetime

I have a generic USB Webcam 720p connected to a USB port on my Mac Mini (2012 version) running 10.8.2. Tried using webcam on facetime, my HD monitor doesn't have webcam, for the first time. When opening FT the image from webcam displayed in the window, but when FT started connecting window went brown and hung up after a minute or 2. There were no drivers for Mac OS, but listed Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, with plug & play.
Any suggestions I would appreciate it.

I don't have the same Mac and camera as you, so I cannot test this, but it may be worth a try:
Use technique from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 about letting Photo Booth use a Firewire external  iSight:
    • Connect your Logitech Vision Pro USB webcam and turn it on.
    • Quit Safari if it is running.
    • Launch iChat.
    • Open iChat's Video "Preferences..." and set the camera "Preference" to use your built-in iSight. You need not log in for video chat, but be sure your iSight video preview shows in the video Preferences pane.
    • Now, with your built-in camera in use by iSight, launch Safari and test whether your Logitech Vision Pro USB webcam shows in the settings dialog box.
If you still have trouble and have not already tried restarting your Mac, modem, and (if you have one) router, see if that helps.

  • Is there a way to obtain video using a webcam through video grabber?

    HI everyone.
I am relatively new to labview.
Is there a way to display the webcam video through a video grabber without using labview vision acquisition software?
My project is to acquire the video from the webcam through the video grabber and interface it on labview.
I am using Labview 2011 student edition.
The camera is a cmos camera with a video format of PAL_N.
The video grabber is called "ezgrabber".

  • Best ways for Capturing video using SD cards

    Hi
I have a lab of Imacs and we also have mostly Canon FS200's with SD cards. I'm experimenting with different software to capture the video using both streamclip and IMovie, but find that both will cause problems. The biggest problem is that the audio is out of sync. Is there any way to use final cut Pro version 6 that will accomplish this task more efficiently? Or should I use some other program?

The manual is embedded in the application. You can access it from the help menu and open it in Preview. Save it as a separate PDF. Or you can hack the application contents and copy it from there. PDFs are much better any way as they search incredibly quickly compared to trying to search an index that spans three volumes.
