Car bluetooth failed after recent OS 6.2 update

My car bluetooth (car is a BMW X5) has suddenly stopped working, immediately after my iPhone 5 updated its OS to 6.1.
It all worked perfectly before the OS upgrade.
Have re-paired it, re-set everything - no good.  Any suggestions?
What happens is - the phone pairs with the car stereo, the car stereo answers the phone - but there's no sound. Can't hear anything - on the car stereo, on the phone, nothing.
And before anyone asks - yes, I am using it correctly, and the car is selected in the phone settings and when the call comes through.
I used it successfully for months - until the latest OS upgrade...  And then it stops.     6.0 was fine.  Why would 6.1 fail?
Why would the 6.1 upgrade cause this to happen?    What have Apple changed in their bluetooth functionality for OS 6.1, that would make something that worked perfectly suddenly stop working after the 6.1 upgrade??  Why make these changes suddenly?
Anyway, am very very annoyed.   I need to answer my phone in the car, for goodness sake!  Are you trying to make me get a blackberry or an Android device, Apple?

Thanks for the lack of response, Apple.
I guess maybe it's time to get a Samsung Galaxy?
They at least seem to have some interest in ensuring software upgrades don't cut users off from their existing services.

  • Printer fails after recent udev and kde updates

after the very recent upgrades i made everything work again fine, all except my printer on lp0, i have another printer that still works on usb flawlessly but my other printer only works on parallel port.
cups works and registers everything I try to print on jobs lists, but the printer light never blinks or prints as normal.
cat asses.txt > /dev/lp0 makes the printer light print but it never prints
    anyone else having this problem?

    Sort of.
I have a Canon Pixma iP5000 printer (USB), and after the last update it's still seen fine by the commercial CUPS backend (Turboprint) on /dev/usb/lp0 as ready and waiting jobs, but whenever I send it something to print it magically goes offline!
The only way to print something after the upgrade is stopping the printer first, sending the print output and then starting the printer- THIS way it prints just fine!
It looks to me like a major CUPS bug.

Do you mean a restore to factory settings?. If so did you set up as new or restore from back up afterwards?

  • Bluetooth failed after last OS Update

After the last OS update 10.7.3 on my Powerbook Pro, bluetooth failed on both Trackpad and Apple Mouse. It connects and then disconnects. Anysolutions out there?

        catnfran,
I'm sorry to hear that you have been experiencing this issue with your Bluetooth feature! Updates are meant to offer enhancements.
Based on our findings, with the new update, making this change manually would be the recommend option. If needed, we can attempt to master reset the device http://vz.to/1d1KPN1 to see if this helps resolve this particular concern.

  • [solved] boot fails after recent update

After updating a load of packages today my system fails to boot with the following message:
    Checking Filesystems [Fail]
    ********************Reboot Required*********************
    * The System will be rebooted automatically in 15 seconds *
Then it just reboots. I can't get past this message.
    I did not upgrade the kernel26-firmware package since I run kernel26-ice 2.6.29.
I can't find any logfiles for hints. What could be wrong?
    [Edit 2009-07-06]
I checked the filesystems from a rescue system to no avail.

Oh well - took me a while to figure things out this time maybe the solution helps somebody else.
Since I use reiser4 as a filesystem I had to recompile reiser4progs against the new libreadline in order to allow a proper fsck during boot

  • Bluetooth fail after upgrading til lollipop

After installing lollipop 5.0.2 i have problem with my bluetooth connection. I use the app WIMP and when i play a songlist it only plays two songs before it stops playing. Have tried with three different loudspeakers, same problem. Only happens when i play via bluetooth, not via cable. Happened after lollipop upgrade.

Seems strange that it's 2 songs - Have you contacted the developer to see if there is an issue with the app and Lollipop

  • Network keeps failing after recent kernel upgrade

I upgraded my kernel this morning to the newest version of 2.6.17, and as soon as I rebooted the Network started saying FAIL each time. Can anyone help me diagnose the problem?
    Side note :
I remembered that I had also modified the inittab to use gdm before I rebooted. Would that have any kind of effect?

I've had that problem as well. It's because the modular kernels load the modules at the same time, and because of that which module is initialized first isn't the same at every boot. So the names eth0, eth1 and eth2 for example may change at next boot. Even if you have only one network card, the ethernet over firewire module might be loaded. I solved it by setting eth0, eth1 and eth2 to dhcp, starting them all at boot and starting network in the background (to prevent wating for the two devices that won't start). To find out what devicenames are used, do a "ifconfig -a"
IIRC there is another solution too - you can search through the forums for it.
ATM I'm running a custom kernel with all the network modules built-in - that way the network device names are the same at every boot.

  • Bluetooth fails after abnormal shutdown - needs constant reinstall.

This is something that has plagued me with my previous Tecra.  I am using a Terca M10 and have had a lot of problems with Windows XP preinstalled (because it came with a lot of undesirable stuff).
The bluetooth manager stays red which means that it is not working.
I have to uninstall and reinstall the bluetooth stack time and time again.
And even when it is working I get the following message in the Event Log:
The application-specific access security descriptor for the COM Server application C:\Program Files\Toshiba\Bluetooth Toshiba Stack\TosBtSrv.exe is invalid. It contains Access Control Entries with permissions that are invalid. The requested action was therefore not performed. The application set this security permission programmatically; to modify this security permission contact the application vendor.
Can anyone help me solve this issue.

Double-click the event entry in Event Viewer and then click the Copy button on the right to put its details on your clipboard. Paste that without editing into your reply, and tell us whether it's from the Application or the System log.

  • Not Booting after recent Security Patch/Java update

My wife has experienced what many have experienced with the recent update.
MacBook not booting after update (i.e. - "I have no name!")
I have tried everything posted on this topic since 2/13/09, but without any success. Does anyone have the fix for this yet?
    Things I have tried:
    * I can boot in safe mode (holding "Shift" while restarting)
    * I cannot boot from an install disk(s) (holding C while restarting) - I have both a black one from purchase, and two gray ones with purchase from MiniMac
    * Booting with verbose - gets stuck at same place as everyone else
    Operating in safe mode:
    * I can run DU and "repair" drive
    * I can see and access the CD/DVD
    * I cannot see drive in target drive mode (doesn't ever connect the 2 systems)
    * I downloaded the update files from apple and reinstalled them individually (via USB ext Drive) with a reboot in between
    * I attempted to update & archive, but I cannot run install CD from any systems disks (see above)
Has anyone figured out how to fix this yet?

  • Some CNAME DNS queries fail after latest 10.6.5 update

Right after rebooting from the latest MacOS X update I noticed some DNS queries are failing. These happen to be DNS queries for CNAME records. Other computers in the same network are not affected by this problem, including Mac's to wich the update was not yet installed.

Just as a sanity check, the second portion of the clause from the KB article doesn't apply in your situation, does it?
Additionally, Mac OS X v10.6 automatically detects when the local network operator has set up a name server that will answer name requests for a domain ending in ".local". It does this by checking to see if there is a Start Of Authority (SOA) record for the top level domain "local", which is how a DNS server indicates that it claims to have authority over a part of the DNS namespace. As long as the DNS server is properly configured with the required SOA record, Mac OS X v10.6 will detect this SOA record and automatically use this server to look up all host names in the domain.
Also, if you have time, you might want to check what mDNSResponder is actually doing by enabling logging; the man page describes the process in more detail:
    LOGGING
There are several methods with which to examine mDNSResponder's internal state for debugging and
diagnostic purposes. The syslog(1) logging levels map as follows:
    Error - Error messages
    Warning - Client-initiated operations
    Notice - Sleep proxy operations
    Info - Informational messages
By default, only log level Error is logged.
A SIGUSR1 signal toggles additional logging, with Warning and Notice enabled by default:
    % sudo killall -USR1 mDNSResponder
Once this logging is enabled, users can additionally use syslog(1) to change the log filter for the
process. For example, to enable log levels Emergency - Debug:
    % sudo syslog -c mDNSResponder -d
A SIGUSR2 signal toggles packet logging:
    % sudo killall -USR2 mDNSResponder
A SIGINFO signal will dump a snapshot summary of the internal state to /var/log/system.log:
    % sudo killall -INFO mDNSResponder
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man8/mDNSResponder.8.html
I suspect in this case packet logging might be most informative.

  • Problems after recent june 2012 software updates

This first time problem has persisted since the most recent Apple updates.
    I have a 24" Mac w/Lion 10.7.4
Whether I use Safari, Camino, Firefox or Opera eventually I get a "server can't be found" message when attempting to open a site ( including Apple, blogs, newspapers, etc).  This error isn't consistant ... not always the same site won't open ... sometimes I'll get the 'can't be found message', then after opening other sites and returning to the can't open site ... it opens.
Also, mail, especially those from businesses, will open but any pics, drawings, etc. aren't there, just a small box with a question mark.  Again, this is erratic problem and doesn’t happen every time I open mail.
I visited an Apple Genius and she said it was a network issue, then removed a folder named, "CaptiveNetworkSupport" and 9 files ... including a preference.plist, com.apple.Boot.plist, NetworkInterfaces.plist, etc.
The Genius said the problem was fixed ... but returning home, I reconnected everything and the original problem is still exists.

  • T410 reinstallation fails after loading some windows optional updates

Reinstalling a Thinkpad T410 Windows 7 Pro 64bit:  all is fine through Windows 7 SP1,  then all Thinkpad (Thinkvantage) drivers and then all the Windows security patches (to October 2013).
HOWEVER loading some optional windows updates ( Bluetooth), or Windows .Net, or some of the other optional updates result in -get this- any keyboard entry freezing the currently active application it is meant for.
All other applications open and work fine as long as only the mouse is used. A keyboard entry only freezes the application it is meant for.  I once succeeded in having Google respond by entering a VOICE search item, but could never cut and paste ( -> keyboard entry!) into a Google search or any application
Some other clues: rolling back (windows restore points) sometimes but NOT always return to a machine in good status. And starting in safe mode, the problem disappears. I have not had the patience to figure out which service /driver is causing the keyboard glitch. Will be ignoring these optional updates for now, but it would be good to know the reason this is happening ( a strange combination of drivers / inappropriate order loading updates? )

Since you deselected IIS & Tomcat, it sounds like the links defaulted to Tomcat (port 8080).  WACS requires IIS to run and port 6405 is what WACS listens on.  You have a couple options.
The easy solution would be to find the file:
    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Tomcat55\bobjsetup\administrator_guide
Right click on the shortcut file and change it to point to:
    http://localhost:6405/CmcApp/help/en/administration/html/default.htm
Another option would be to uninstall and then do a full install rather than a custom install.  Let it install Tomcat and if it detects IIS, it will configure that as well.  Depending on how you plan to use the product, you may find yourself wanting to use Tomcat anyway.  If you've already spent a lot of time configuring your current system and are ok with changing the links as above, that would be the easiest solution.  Keep in mind, the latest revisions of the admin guide and other documentation can always be downloaded from Service MarketPlace.

  • CD Problems after recent 10.4.11 Update

Recently updated to 10.4.11. Now CD Combo drive is acting erratically. Will not open using keyboard command key (at upper right of numeric pad). OPEN icon does not momentarily appear on display screen either. If I open the mirror door, the CD drive power light is solid yellow. Manually opening the drive tray w/ paper clip and inserting CD = no activity. Blinking green power light but CDs are not reading. Already tried disconnecting all USB devices except keyboard/mouse.
Is my Combo drive just starting to shoot craps?

    Hi-
With that version of OS, the eject key must be momentarily held to activate eject.
Just tapping eject doesn't work anymore in 10.4.11.
As for the reading problem, try setting up a new user account with Admin rights, and see if the drive reads CD's.
If it does, then you just have a user account problem.
if not, it could still be software related, and running the 10.4.11 Combo update again may help.
If all this doesn't help, and if you have problems reading multiple types of discs, replacing the drive with a new one is easy, and only costs around $30.
You will have a much faster drive, with better support for new optical media.
The Pioneer DVR-116 and the Pioneer DVR-118 are excellent choices for replacement.
With any new drive, use Patchburn to gey full burn support through all applications.

  • Applications not showing up after recent 10.6.4 update

I have a Mac Book Pro (Model A1151) from 2006 that I was running an early version of Tiger on when it began giving me problems last week. At that point, I reinstalled my original software that came with the computer and that did not help. After that, I purchased 10.6.4 and my applications worked for awhile then they stopped working again.
This is very odd and I am at a loss for what may be causing this.
The applications that are no longer showing up are:
    Parellels (5)
    iTunes
    Firefox
    Quicktime
    Keynote
    Numbers
    Pages
Any input and/or ideas of what may be causing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Click once on every application and select Get Info from the file menu.
Then compare with the versions on these links:

    http://www.macintouch.com/specialreports/snowleopard/slcompat.html
In addition to the third party links if you can find them. If any are not matching with 10.6.4 exactly, you might want to contact the vendor to ask if it is 10.6.4 compatible or not. Also make sure all the applications in question are in the Applications folder. If you are launching them from the Dock, the translucent bar, click once until you can select Show in Finder. If any of the said applications are outside of the Applications folder on the boot hard drive, it may be you are launching the wrong version. Anything in the Finder window's left sidebar is also a shortcut.
