Car charger, 12v- USB.

First of, no i dont want nokia original charger, i _really_ hate the twisted cord.
I have tried several different 12v -> USB-adapters and the micro-USB charging/data cable, but none of them works.
I have even tried opening the original car charger (with micro USB), and changed the twisted cord to a straight, normal, micro-USB one, with no luck.
The last adapter i tried is specced for 1A(deltaco), which should be more than sufficient.
This is _REALLY_ starting to **bleep** me off, what is up with this? Can anyone help me?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iPod Nano needs to exchange data prior to charging so a Nano aware charger must be used.
USB should has standard power values (I thought it was 5volts so 5.7 volts sounds right for charging. Where did you see the 3.7v figure?)
Anyhow the bottom line is that you need a specific charger. (Apparently this is becoming increasingly common. The Nano inspired and catchily titled Samsung ZP-25 also needs a data exchange (or specific charger).

  • Car charging (12V) to Macbook Pro Magsafe 2

There seems to be numerous discussions (all of them old) about the best way to charge a new Macbook pro (2013 onwards) with magsafe 2 (T connector) in a car. However I cant seem to find the definitive answer or an up to date one.
Have a client that needs to supply all sales reps with compatible car chargers to their Macbook Pro using the cigarette lighter (12V)
Seems many of them on the market cant cope with the draw of the 85W that the power supply needs.
I have seen a few available like this one
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Magnetic-In-Car-Charger-MacBook-Display/dp/B00BJ97H7A#cu stomerReviews
    or this one
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009G1B22O/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creat ive=390957&creativeASIN=B009G1B22O&linkCode=as2&tag=jun0e-20&linkId=DOQ7Q332W25D IHND
The first one looks the best but I was wondering if anyone has experience of these or a better way to do this . There is talk of noisy 150W invertors etc but I am looking for a good solution.
P>S this is for the UK market
    thanks

If the MBPs are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare, call them.  The reps there should be able to advise you.
Or call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-275-2273 (Sorry I do not know the UK number).  Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations.  Tell them exactly what you stated in your post.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Vision M - In car, charging with USB continuosly

Hi, i checked few post, but did not find anything that can give me clear answer.
I want to keep my visionM in car all the time and charge it thru' USB continously.
Problem is, player is using power faster that charging itself thru' USB, resulting in loss of all power in couple hours.
I use FM transmitter and USB charger ( i tried 4 different kind for better performance)
does anybody have success doing this ? keeping Vision M playing music in car whenever Car is running thru' USB
    THanks
    Ken

Don't use the Generic one as it can damage the player, The cell phone one doesn't output enough juice for it.Can't say about the SanDisk one. The older the battery the less playtime it will output. Age of the battery has more to do with it than use of it. So the charger itself would be my guess. Get either the car charger that is made for the Playstation Portable (a real one) or the one Creative makes. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...duct_id=396047

  • Ipod nano with funky car charger

As a very stupid test I plugged my ipod into a gimmick car charger to USB connector that is supposed to plug into my USB powered coffee mug. Suprisingly, the Ipod Nano heated up instantly. Observing that the ipod probably should not "heat up" I unplugged it after less than 15 or 20 seconds of "charging" the battery.
The Ipod looked ok though - in fact my iTrip was broadcasting the iTunes just fine. Because I still needed a fresh charge for the pressing road trip ahead of me, I then took the Ipod back inside to my laptop and proceeded to charge it there for an hour or less. I unplugged the iPod and found it was still working, but it was still slightly warm to the touch! Bad sign I suppose...
An hour or so later in the car, I found the iPod would no longer turn on. It had been off since I'd been charging it on the laptop. But now it was dead and the 10 second trick gave no response. 5 days later it is in this same state. I waited days before trying to plug it back into my laptop to "recharge". It appears to be very dead.
Has anyone found similar experience, and does it sound like this is simply an issue where I've blown the battery? Or is this more serious and a $200 mistake? (Ipod warranty ended December 2006).
Thanks for any help out there and notes of sympathy!

I experienced the same problem. I have a car charger that is not Apple. My ipodwas working fine until I used it. The ipod became very hot and would no longer hold a charge. I sent it away twice and still nothing worked. I had to buy a new ipod.

Charging iphone4 with an exogear case via 12v to usb car charger, on disconnecting restore is needed unless I power off  iphone?????????????

    Carloyn,
Thanks for the tip. But when I hooked the iPad to the wall charger (which is a power supply too) using the same USB cable, I was able to turn it off. How come?

    Hi,
As long as the iPad is connected to your computer it has a power supply which prevents you from turning the iPad off. Better to allow the battery to charge to 100% while it's connected regardless.

  • 64gb Playbook charged by 12v usb?

    Hello again
Please answer only if you have achieved to get a 64gb Playbook charged by 12v usb?
I have a 64gb Playbook running 2.1.0.1088. I am trying to use navigation programmes on the move but the playbook discharges in use and cannot accept any input from 12v via usb.
    I have tried
Direct connection from 12v with usb. The unit was fro 9600 and playbook. Did not charge or read.
12v connectors with usb slots 1.8a and 2.1a and even 3.1a. All use a usb cable. No charge or read.
12v 3.1 connection, charge only usb adaptor and usb to playbook. No charge or read
The usb cables read when connected to the laptop, but there is no charge.
I have had a number of answers to my other thread, but all are for none 64g playbooks.
If you have succeeded in using a 64gb playbook to a 12v in-car socket. Please let me know which unit you have used and where I may purchase. I am in the UK, so please do not be offended my fellow users around the world if I ask for only UK answers.

Now the only concern I have is the idea of having a playbook loose in a car with the USB cable attached is in my opinion sking for the socket to get damaged in use. It's not the world's most robust design.
When I use Playbook for chat to the family I have it either on the charging dock, on in a wooden frame I made with the cable anchored to the frams so it cant get snagged.
There is still the possibility that it's too late for Ross's Playbook and the socket may be damaged already.
Well it sounds like you're now looking for a car mount holder. Checking out eBay (North America) there are lots which vary by price and most likely quality: http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=playbook+car+holder
For something like a car holder, I would go to a store and try them in person if possible and then see if you can find that same version cheaper online. I have bought cheap plastic holders before and they are junk and break easily. Personally, I'm trying to hunt down a metal one. I might just end up making one to be honest and that way you can control quality. Since we get some really cold temperatures here in Canada come wintertime, I've been looking to mate various pieces together to create a robust design. Here is a 7" metal stand that can come apart and serve as the backing of the mount. http://www.iphonexcases.com/hot-portable-ultra-tablet-stand-for-7-inch-e-reader-tablet-pcs-galaxy-ta... That stand is $13.70 and if you marry it to mounts like this:
http://www.universalcarmountholder.com/photo/pl401630-flexible_adjusted_apple_ipad_2_tablet_pc_mount... or a gooseneck one like this: http://upload.ecvv.com/upload/Product/20124/China_55_5cm_gooseneck_Flexible_Steel_Seat_Bolt_Mount_Fl...
    This looks promising too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EASY-TO-INSTALL-Asus-eee-pad-Transformer-Slate-Tablet-Car-Floor-Seat-Bolt-Mo...
Then you're getting something robust that will last and can be used elsewhere.
Remember,  with a decent car mount, the microUSB cable should be able to connect and not affect mount points...that's why I suggest trying them in person before buying or else you run the risk of the mounts covering the ports.

  • Can I use my standard car charger i got for iphone 4 with iPhone 5? if I just plug in the usb to lightning cable or will it damage the new iphone?

The charger takes a usb cable, so I figure I could just plug in my usb to lightning cable and charge using my Saitek charger.  Does anyone know if this works?

Did you get this to work?  Mine did not work when I plugged it into my at&t iphone car charger usb port.

  • USB to firewire for car charger?

I have a car charger for my iPod that accepts a firewire cable. I'd like to charge my iPhone with the same device. Does someone make a USB-to-firewire adapter I could use? Any chance it would harm my iPhone?

  • Pre won´t charge on regular outles, only on the car charger or with the USB to the computer

I went away this weekend and was not able to charge my pre, none of the hotel outlets worked, it was very frustrating. i get home and it doesn´t work either, only when I connect it to my mac. How do i fix this? help!
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I have this problem also.  When I use the wall charger or a car charger, my Palm Pre usually fails to go on charge.  Sometimes it does after unplugging it and plugging it back in a couple of times, but often it doesn't.  However, it works 100% of the time when charging from my laptop's USB port.
I use the exact same cable for all three, so it's not a cable issue.  It's unlikely that both my wall charger and my car charger are broken.  In fact I believe that there's something about the USB data connection that "wakes up" my Pre to tell it a connection has been made.  On a dumb, power-only connection, it has a problem.
I am thinking about returning my Pre because it's a huge pain to charge it off my laptop when I'm out and about all day.

  • I have an ipone 3 . it will charge from the wall charger but not in the car or via usb nor will itunes detect it ?

i have an iphone 3 , it will only charge from the wall charger. will not charge in the car nor via usb and itunes or pc wont detect it ???

maybe there is some sort of fuse in the cabeling or the iphone its self. Does it have a charge bar on the lock screen when it is being charged. How old is the iphone that may be the problem

  • Is it safe to use the USB port in my car to charge my iPhone 5s or do I need to buy a car charger?

Is it safe to use the USB port in my car to charge my iPhone 5s or do I need to buy a car charger?

Check car manual to see if it supports charging ,some do not
or use a USB 12 volt plug in for the "cigarrette lighter" socket and plug into that ,probably a better solution

  • Torch will NOT charge with Wall or Car Chargers, only USB - what is the fix?

About 3 days ago, my Torch decided it no longer wants to work with ANY wall charger, or car charger for that matter.  I have been using it just fine for the past 6 months, and charging it just about every night, topping it off for a fresh charge for the morning.
Now, NO wall chargers work, simply no response.  The ONLY way I can charge is via the USB cable and my laptop.  This is VERY annoying and no one at the AT&T store seems to know what's going on.
I've tried all kinds of battery pulls and reboots - even upgraded to the latest software, downgraded back - NOTHING seems to be working!
What is the solution to this problem?  How can I get it to charge again in my wall and car chargers?

If the device (Blackberry phone) will recharge using the computer this means that the port on the device should be functioning properly.  The USB port on your computer puts out up to 500 ma at 5 Volts. The voltage regulator in the phone adjusts the power coming in to be in specs to charge the battery. The Blackberry charger is a 700 ma charger. The computer will take about 30% longer to charge the phone.
I have had the connectors on the chargers and car adabtors go defective from handling and use.  I have also had chargers fail. Since the phone can be recharged using the computer this tells me the fault has to be with the charging devices you have. Unfortunately these chargers are not serviceable. As for myself, over time I bought a number of spare chargers.
I would strongly suggest to try another charger. Maybe you can go in to a store that sells them and try another charger that they have in stock.
When buying or trying a charger, it would be best to get an original Blackberry charger. This guarantees the specifications will be exactly correct for your phone, and also for the electrical safety for your phone. It is also known that many of the universal chargers will not properly charge the Blackberry phone.

  • My iPhone 5 Bricked after plugging it into the USB port on my AT&T car charger

I plugged my factory USB cable from my iPhone 5 into the USB port on my AT&T car charger and it killed the iPhone 5 dead. I guess I thought since Apple is making a 30 pin converter and that all of my other apple products work this way that it should work...I guess I was wrong!

    Not Charge
    - See:

    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Can i use an old car charger with a usb port to charge my iPhone 5s?

Can I use an old car charger for a not smart phone to charge my iPhone 5s through the usb port?

    Usually you can!
check if the specification of charger (USB output) is 5V (very important) and at least 500mA (more power like 1000mA --> 1A allow you to charge greater devices like iPad)
But personally is not good idea, because in short/long time can damage or reduce the life of battery of your iPhone/iPad etc.
