Car charger, Mikegyver system

Whether or not I buy a new MacBook is dependent on being able to charge it in my car. Has anyone used the Mikegyver MagSafe cable system for doing that? If so, are you satisfied with it? It seems to be the only option available besides using a DC power inverter. Downside of inverters is that they drain a car battery pretty fast.

@OP: Please stop spamming the forum with this inane request. No one here is interested in doing your work for you. In your other posting you were directed to the rent-a-coder site, and if you really think it's a good idea to let someone else do your work I suggest you go there and pay someone to do it.

I have a Droid Incredible 2 phone.  I bought  car charger and ever since I have used it, the phone thinks it is in "car mode" even when the phone is in my home, my purse,...I sets to speaker and I can not hear the phone ring.  It freezes on "car mode".  I heard that Droid is supposed to be fixing the problem, but nothing has happened yet.  Is anyone else having this problem, and does anyone at Verizon know when/if this will be fixed.  If not, I expect a new phone from Verizon.

there are two ways, usually if u restart the phone it will reset, but the other is going to your system and shut it off manually...

  • Car charger for Macbook/Macbook Pro

Okay Apple... so all of us road warriors who ponied up for the new laptops (for which there are precious few extra batteries) are wondering what is up with car chargers for the speedy new babies.
According to Lind AND Kensington, you (Apple) have refused to allow third parties to make Auto/Air chargers for the new laptops. Hopefully this means one is coming soon... right??
The crummy alternative is to use a DC to AC converter which is horribly inefficient and requires you to have the car running the whole time the laptop is plugged into it to keep from killing your car battery...
Come on Apple, release the cool car charger already!!!
17" Macbook Pro/ Black Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   annoyed there is no auto charger!!!!

Our Magsafe Airline adapter DOES charge the battery in Airlines AND work in cars!

  • Which one of these 12volt/car charger for MacBook Pro would you choose..???

    Hi everyone.
I am looking for a suitable 12volt/car charger, so i can charge my brand new MacBook Pro directly from our caravan batteries via a car/12 volt socket. I dont want to use a inverter, as it draws unnecessary power from the vans batteries.
I am being cautious as I don't want to use a product that is not 100% compatible here in Australia and might void the warranty in any way.
I can not find anything suitable manufactured by Apple but I have found many 3rd party alternatives, ranging from approx $50 up to a couple of hundred.
Has anyone had any experience with any of these products.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hi Carl, Thank you for your help. I am still none the wiser which one to pick. You say they are not equivalent, but don't they all do the same job. I never was any good at joining the dots, my spelling is shocking and I really wouldn't know a technical error even if it was starring me in the face.
    Have a good one.

  • Car charger help??!?

Hello all, im having some difficulties with car chargers right now just bought 3 different kinds that all say apple certified on them I am using an apple certified cord that came with the device.. Basically I plug the car charger into the cigarette port in my car it lights up indicating that it's working.. Plug in the Lightning cable (with or without phone connected) and the light disappears.. I'm not sure *** is going on my phone chargers fine directly out of the usb port in my car to connect the audio system, works fine charging from a wall charger.. The car chargers all work with micro usb but not lightning cables.. I'm at a loss I bought chargers from Walgreens, walmart, and Att... This kinda ***** just wondering if anyone else has had this same issue! Thanks again in advance I appreciate any feedback.

I know this sounds like a silly question, but do you have a case on your phone? Try it without the case.

  • GPS runs down battery while plugged into car charger

    Hello,
I have a Fascinate with the 2.2.1 and the Samsung car charger.  When I run Google Navigation or Bing Map while the phone is plugged into the car charger, the phone battery drains and does not charge until I exit navigation.  If I walk out to the car with a full battery and plug it in, the icon will indicate charging while I am driving to my destination but when I arrive and unplug the phone after about an hour's drive time, the battery immediately shows red and the phone shuts itself off.  The phone will charge normally when plugged into the car charger but only if navigation is turned off.
I don't know if it does this also with the VZW navigation app, I don't use it.
There are no other apps running other than the pre-installed bloatware. Wifi and Bluetooth are turned off.
The phone does this with two different Samsung chargers and also a generic charger.  There is only about 6 months on the battery.  It did the same thing before the last system update (I first thought I had a bad charger, which is how I ended up with two).
    Anyone else?

    Hi Andynator,
Thank you for your posting, it includes some great information. I can assist you with the issue you are having. I would like to ask if you find that this happens only when running maps and using the car charger?
I have checked my references here and I am not showing that this is a known issue with the Fascinate. Since you mentioned that this was occurring before the update and is still occurring after the update, this tells me that the root cause of the issue may be with the device itself.
You may very well have already called in, since posting your message. However, if you have not and are still having the issue, please feel free to send me a PM with your contact information, as well as the mobile number. I will be more than happy to contact you personally in order to troubleshoot and address the issue further for you.
Thank you again for your posting and have a good day!

  • Lumia 920 Wireless Car Charger?

Technically, I'm not part of the Nokia community yet, as I don't have my Lumia in hand. But, I am getting the 920 on December 1st. I am ridiculously excited! But onto my question, has anyone heard or read anywhere that Nokia is developing a wireless car charger? I love the idea of my phone sitting on a dock(Attached to a cigarette lighter of course) and being able to pick it up and answer a call and not have to worry about the cord getting caught on the e-brake or snagged somewhere and unplugging from the phone when the phone is picked up. I just think this would be a great accessory!

It isn't wireless, but Proclip has come out with a 920 car mount with integral charge connector. Been using their stuff for years and highly recommend. The concept is two part, one specifically for the car, and the other for the device. They have an optional Move Clip system that makes moving device holders and changing them more convinient. The site is at http://www.proclipusa.com
One 920 specific one is here
I have the non-powered one for the 920. Almost looks like you could slide the charge plate behind it, but the wall wart isn't USB. Haven't looked to see what the power requirements are for the wireless chargers. Might be a project for a motivated techie. I am a techie, but the motivation is an issue.

  • In-car charger?

The Playbook charges OK whilst connected to mains.
I have installed OsmAnd gps and wish to use it off-line. Unfortunately the battery discharges whilst being used. Quite normal, nothing wrong there. However every piece of hardware that I use to charge from the 12v system does not show connection through the usb. I have tried a 12v charger to the playbook. A 12v connecter with a usb to the Playbook. Nothing is shown as charge.
Has any member been able to use a playbook on charge from a 12v system. If so, what connection did you use, and can I get/order one in the UK?
    Hope you can help.

Yes, I use this car charger and I bought it from these guys http://ca.crackberry.com/blackberry-premium-18a--micro-usb-in-vehicle-charger/5A47A11480.htm
I'm in Canada and you're overseas so that won't be that great for you. But it is the BB OEM Premium Car Charger though so there is a chance you could find it on UK eBay or in your local shops. You could buy it directly from BlackBerry but it would be much more expensive probably.
Long story short, your car charger must be able to deliver 1.8A output. It will charge your cellphone (BlackBerry) up to twice as fast since it is delivering twice the amount of energy than the way underpowered cell chargers. Don't waste your time on any charger that will not output 1.8A no matter what they say on the package (PlayBook compatible). There are lots of threads on the Internet and everyone says 1.8A or bust...

  • Is there a car charger for the MacBook?

Is there a car charger for the MacBook Pro?

    Mollyfromtexas wrote:

    Not exactly.
There is the Apple Airline Adpater that takes the 15v DV airline and maintains a previously fully charged Macbook battery, but doesn't charge the battery as it doesn't have enough power like the Magsafe powerbrick adpater does.
One can use the Airline adpater in a vehicle with 12v, it does the same as above, helps prolong the battery but to a slightly lesser extent as it's only 12v instead of 15v.
12v to 110v adapters (thus to use the supplied Magsafe adapter) doesn't work and only can result in frying out your vehicles electrical system in most cases as their cables are not designed to handle that much power draw on the 12v side, just to run the car and a few gizmos like a cigarrette lighter.
If one notices the cable on their vehicles battery, it's very thick, designed to carry a lot of electrons. That is not the case when it get to the 12v cigarrate adapter, it gets very thin. Pulling too many elecrons through a thin wire makes it overheat, it should trip the car's breaker first, but sometimes just a heavy load but not enough for the breaker to jump, will significantly wear out the thin wires and cause vehicle electrical problems.
Using the Airline Adpater in a 12v or using the 12v DC to 110v AC adpater is not approved by Apple and can likely void your warranty if discovered as user inflicted abuse.

  • Car Charger causes iPod to freeze.

I just bought a new Belkin car charger but for some reason when I use it my iPod freezes after a few songs. One time I got the sad face icon. I think whats happening is that the iPod thinks it's being synced with a computer and when it can't find the operating system it registers it as an error. I can't seem to find a way around it.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I have exactly the same issue with Texas Hold'em. It's not the iPod, since I returned 2, and it's now happening on a 3rd new iPod. I can't play more than 10 minutes without it freezing, and I have to reboot my iPod, and reset all my settings even. So, the game is totally unplayable.
Is there an update to the game that fixes this problem?
And if so, how would I get access to it?

  • My iphone won't charge and won't play music anymore. I have tried reseting it and switching it off. Have tried 3 different chargeres and even a car charger. Does anyone know what could be wrong and how I can fix it?

I have an iPhone 4 not quite 2 years old. 2 nights ago my iPhone was on its charger and it kept vibrating as if it was being disconnected and re-connected from the charger. When I looked at it had an "error" message but now I don't know what that was as it was 3am and I was half asleep. I just diconnected the charger and the battery read fully charged.
The my volume wouldn't go up or down. The box with "ringer" in it came up but no bars at the bottom to show the volume is increasing or decreasing. It would not play music out of the speakers either even though the screen showed it was playing and it would not work in our dock/speaker unless I used bluetooth and even then, if we touched the volume button on the dock it would switch off.
I tried a "hard" reset 3 times and tried switching it off and on 3 times with no success.
I tried 3 different chargers including a car charger, plus the speaker dock with no success.
It is now out of battery and I cannot charge it.
The iPhone also would not back anything up prior to the battery going flat.
I just need to know if it is fixable or do I need to start looking for a new phone?

  • Is there a way to modify Incase Mini Car Charger so it will fit into iPhone 5s in a case?

I should have read the reviews in the Apple Store before buying the Incase Mini Car Charger before I bought it: the material around the lightning connector is much thicker than that in the Apple cable (which broke after not much use) and won't fit into the 5s with the case I have on the phone. Is there a way to "shave" the rubbery material to make this work?

dumdidadida: Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't address the problem. HSTS is designed to FORCE the use of https, this is a good thing in most cases. However, HSTS is problematic in that it incorrectly assumes that all users trust the default list of CAs and makes the adding of exceptions impossible even by advanced users.
torprojec.org is just an example, this effects every HSTS site. You can reproduce this problem yourself in version 17 or later if you temporary disable "DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA" in your certificate store and then visit torproject.org. You will notice the ability to add exceptions has been removed and that the cert_override.txt file found in the user's profile is also ignored.

  • Iphone 6 compatibility with belkin car charges and cables

    Hey
upon reading stories of certain car charges not working with the iphone 6 i want to find out if either of these 2 car charges and cables from belkin will charge my iphone 6.
In theory the 12v 2.4amp charger should charge my phone up faster than the rest however the iphone 6 is not listed in compatible devices, strangely neither is it listed on the 10w 2.1amp version of this product.
Am i missing some sort of trick here? the only thing i can think of is that the iphone 6 has a list of compatible devices or (certified) and will not allow connection with either of these belkin devices.
    here is the 12v 2.4 charger http://www.belkin.com/uk/F8J121-Belkin/p/P-F8J121/
    Here is the 10w 2.1amp charger http://www.belkin.com/uk/F8J078/p/P-F8J078/
What exactly is the problem with using either of these? isnt it the same lightening connection as the iphone 5?

Belkin probably just hasn't updated the page yet. Give them a call or contact their customer support. Note that the maximum current an iPhone will draw from a USB adapter is 1 amp (5 watts) whether the adapter can supply 1 amp, 2 amps, or 100 amps. So it won't charge any faster than a 1 amp adapter. An iPad can use up to 2.1 amps.

  • Can I use my standard car charger i got for iphone 4 with iPhone 5? if I just plug in the usb to lightning cable or will it damage the new iphone?

The charger takes a usb cable, so I figure I could just plug in my usb to lightning cable and charge using my Saitek charger.  Does anyone know if this works?

Did you get this to work?  Mine did not work when I plugged it into my at&t iphone car charger usb port.

  • My Belkin car charger is no longer supported by my iphone 5. It was bought from the Apple store. Is there a solution from Apple?

The Belkin car charger I purchased a year ago from the Apple store and has worked fine until recently  is no longer supported and will not charge my  iphone 5 it seems since IOs7 came in.  Is there a solution other than to have to buy a new one?

are you talking about a song or a ringtone?
either way, if its still on itunes you can just sync it back to your iphone.
