Car charger power surge

I had my curve chargeing in my car from 0% just fine when my car got stuck in an ice patch, after gunning the engine and geting out of the jam i noticed half hour later that my phone had compleatly stopped working. I dont know if its because it was in the cup holder and there was some weight on it earlier and the charger cable broke the electrical in the phone or my car charger caused it to powersurge or what but it still comes on when i mess with the battery and the screen works when its jacked into my tower but it wont load or function, help?

currently after some difficulty the device has loaded after sporatically connecting and disconnecting to my computer , odd, thanks bb?

  • "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" for Lenovo g530

Hey there,  I'm a complete tech numskull, so pardon me if this is incredibly naive.  I recently made an impulse buy of an off-brand "Universal Laptop DC car charger power adapter" with the hopes of using it in a car with my Lenovo G530.  I haven't gotten it yet but after purchasing it, I noticed the power adapter that came with my Lenovo  is "AC."  Is it possible to us the DC adapter with my laptop, where my cord says "AC"?  I obviously don't want to fry my laptop and was wondering what I should look out for.  The adapter was pretty cheap, which is another red flag but it also means I won't be out much if I made a mistake in buying it (ebay purchase).
Thanks in advance for your input.

It seems the spare is the new specs. Check these 2 spares. They are the same 4.74amp. http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-3000-G530-444638U-Adapter/dp/B002Z209G6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronic... http://www.amazon.com/COMPUTER-Power-Adapter-Cord-LENOVO/dp/B002MY2MLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electron...

  • IPod nano's audio fried when USB connecter touched car charge power

In my car, I have a splitter for the "cigarette lighter" power, with two holes facing up.  There is no aux jack on the car's radio, so I also have a little radio transmitter, and it gets power from that splitter.  An audio cable connects the output of my iPod nano to the audio input of the radio transmitter.  My nano had a 30-pin cable connected to it, too.
One of the "cigarette ligher" power splitter's power locations was empty, just a hole facing up.  The power splitter also has a couple of USB ports, and I was in the process of attaching my nano with the 30-pin cable into that USB port for power.  Unfortunately, the USB connector touched inside the power hole.
So the nano got some voltage from the car battery and/or grounded things in a weird way through the audio of the radio transmitter (connected to the car's power) and the USB end of the 30-pin cable touching the car's power.
The nano's screen froze, and it didn't respond to any button presses.  So I figured it was totally fried, but it's not.  Once the battery ran down, I could connect it to my Mac, and now everything but the audio is working okay.  Through the 30-pin USB connection, I can load up songs from the Mac and play music out of a clock radio.
The probablem I'm writing about is that the sound coming out of the headphones is either non-existant or extremely garbled, depending on the volume level.  It's fried.  Can anybody give me some hope for un-frying the audio?

OK, so here is my problem.  I did originally download the Beta 10.10...  Apparently I kept on getting betas and was running 10.10.2 (which today is still in beta).
I did downgrade to 10.10.1 (by clicking "Download" in the App Store).
Right after the downgrade everything with syncing works perfectly.
    Cheers, hope this helps someone.

  • IPod touch 1g not charging properly with car charger

I have a 1g iPod touch I'm using it with a Kensington 33199 fm transmitter/car charger. The iPod does not recognize the car charger power to put it into charge mode. The battery symbol does not change to a charging symbol...the unit does play audio out through the transmitter (which works fine), but it doesn't show the usual signs of charging. It seems to get a bit of a charge as the battery doesn't run down, but it also doesn't charge up. If I let the battery run down too far it won't work with the transmitter/charger at all.
Anyone have this kind of problem with a car charger? It charges fine hooked to the computer or directly to an apple wall charger.

If this is a 1G, then it should work. I haven't tried my 1G in the car yet, guess I should. I use a Griffin FM transmitter that charges as it plays back over the radio.
I'll let you know what I find!

  • Power surge on car charger

I've had two iPod nano 7th gen essentially die because I've left them connected to a car charger. For example, I used my iPod for for a 12 hour car ride one the same charge. I put it on the car charger when it was about dead(using the apple cable that came with it) and stopped and went into a store. Left it connected went inside (10 minutes tops) came back out and started the car and then noticed it was getting hot and now it won't hold a charge. I have charged it for 3 hours just to get it full and now it will only go 10 minutes before it's dead. Is it likely that when I stated the car, it caused a surge and killed the iPod? Any thoughts? I'll be sending it in to ape after the holiday but I don't want to fry anything else.

    Call them and ask!

  • Has there been trouble with the charger.  I am getting to re-order but the one i had the had the power surge and the end was blackened.  Not sure if it safe to use the laptop again?

Has there been any trouble with the charger?  I am getting ready to re-order but the one i had.... the had the power surge and the end was blackened.  Not sure if it safe to use the laptop again?  Thanks.

Can you also see blackening in the power jack on the PowerBook? If so, I would be worried that the surge also damaged the computer/
Does the computer run OK on just the battery? If it is working on battery power, that limits the number of things inside the computer that could have been fried.
If the computer is severely damaged by the surge, it's not worth repairing. However, a couple of posters in Apple forums said their homeowners'/renters' insurance paid them replacement value of their computer after power surge damage due to known problems on the grid, like the huge power outage that hit the SW Untied Stats and part of Mexico yesterday.

  • I am using iphone 5C when I use to data cable to charge it from my laptop I always get an error message saying 'Power Surge on hub port'. I am not able to charge my iphone

I am using iphone 5C when I use to data cable to charge it from my laptop I always get an error message saying 'Power Surge on hub port'. I am not able to charge my iphone at all. Please help

I have read that usb hubs usually have only 1 port at a high enough watts = volts x amps iPads need 10watt = 5v x 2 amps so when you use more devices it may share the power so I would buy a usb charger with 2+ amp ports if you want to just charge your devices the computer hub are not designed for that just communication

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
More likely you will need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:
Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X

iPhone 4S is not charging. Upon connecting to macbook air, it gives the power surge alert. Please help.

What do you mean by "power surge alert"? What exactly does it say when you try to connect it? If you're talking about the message about a USB device drawing too much power, that can sometimes be caused by a bad cable or something stuck in the port. Do you have another cable you can try?

  • Z22 power charger - replacement? Car charger too?

    Hello -
A member of my family has the Palm Z22 PDA. She thinks that her included power charger has been misplaced.
I was wondering whether it is possible to order another AC power charger, as well as a car charger. If so, how soon? Would there be a backorder?
I live in California, and would be willing to buy from a store or Palm office(?) anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area
(or at worst in Northern California).
Thank you for your attention to this message.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

UPDATE: Judging by the battery icons that show during long navigation sessions, the phone alternates between charging the battery (battery icon with lightning bolt in it) and showing that it is fully charged but plugged in (battery with plug inside it).
Obviously this second indicator is incorrect since - as soon as you unplug the phone after a long navigation - it shows a red bar and gives the 10% or 20% warning.

    Carloyn,
Thanks for the tip. But when I hooked the iPad to the wall charger (which is a power supply too) using the same USB cable, I was able to turn it off. How come?

    Hi,
As long as the iPad is connected to your computer it has a power supply which prevents you from turning the iPad off. Better to allow the battery to charge to 100% while it's connected regardless.

  • What are my options for in car charging AND music playing for iPhone 3G?

Ok, before you direct me to the other threads, I have read them, and I still don't know what product I can buy for my 3G that will charge my phone and play music in my car.
With my original iPhone I was using the Griffin iTrip FM transmitter. It always gave me that message to ask if I want to switch to airplane mode. I would pick yes or no, then it would charge and play music.
When I plug in my 3G I get the yellow triangle warning that says this device doesn't charge this phone (paraphrasing of course). It appears that it will play music, but if it won't charge my phone then I'm going to run the battery down fast. I rely on being able to charge my phone a bit during the day in the car.
I do not have any AUX port in my car or any kind of iPod hookup in my car that I am reading about on other threads. As far as I know, an FM transmitter or a cassette adapater (I do have a tape deck) are my only options. However, since my husband's car that I drive on the weekends to work does not have a tape deck, I would really prefer a device that does not use a tape (also my previous experience with a tape adapter is that they stop working after a short while).
The power port in my car is nearly at the floor, nowhere near the dash, so any device I use cannot require me to rely on the "on device" controls to control the music.
    I see this on amazon
*Griffin PowerJolt Car Charger for iPod and iPhone (Black)*
    *Technical Details*
*¿ Enjoy full use of your iPod or iPhone during car trips, and arrive with your battery fully charged.*
*¿ Includes detachable Dock Connector to USB Type A cable that can be used separately to connect your iPod or iPhone to your computer.*
*¿ Includes USB Type A to mini-B cable so you can charge while using Griffin iTrip or other dock connector devices that have built-in pass-throughs.*
*¿ 2 Amp automotive blade-type fuse protects against spikes and surges and is easily replaceable.*
*¿ Works with iPhone, iPod models that feature full-size dock connector, and iPod shuffle (1st generation).*
And in another thread, people reported that the Griffin powerjolt DOES work with the 3G, so does the above description mean that I can use this device with my iTrip to charge and play music?

My Pioneer iPod car audio adapter cable does NOT charge my iPhone 3G and they have no plans to change this at this time.
I have a cheapo Griffin car iPod charger (the kind that has a plug for the cigarette lighter and a separate cable that has a mini-USB on one end and a dock connector on the other) and it DOES charge my 3G iPhone.
Go figure, but for now there it is.
Someone HAS to be working on an adapter that goes between the 3G iPhone and a dock connector device to fix this charging issue (which I guess has to do with the last iPhone and many iPods being able to charge via USB at 5V and/or FireWire at 12V but the new iPhone only charging via USB at 5V)

  • Power Surge on Hub Port - Nokia E7

Please help me with my problem with Nokia E7. I have been using it since 4 years and never it gave such problem to me. Whenever i connect it to my PC it says power surge on USB hub. i took it to the technician and he said that the problem was with the problem was with the hardware i.e. the USB port. so i spent a thousand bucks in putting a new USB port and still it shows the same problem. my phone charger and the phone's USB wire doesnt work properly. even a small jerk disconnects the connection.
please value my time and money ur solutions are welcome !

    AJAKRE001,
An alternative way to connect your Nokia E7 to a Windows computer is through bluetooth. But I since assume you are also having problems charging the phone so the only recourse is to send it to a Nokia Care Centre for further device evaluation.
