Car dock comes on by itself

hi everyone i need soem help
i just bought the droid 2. and then i bought a leather case for it , and sometimes when i put the phone on the case (the phone is sleeping) then when i take it out  the car dock program is on, and of course if i don't look at it on time drains my battery...
does any one else have this problem or now how to avoid it?
  thx. for u help

Yes, as jasnmar said, it's the case. I thought I would go frugal and bought a leather case at a kiosk at one of our many malls. Whenever I took the phone out, it automatically went into car dock. No big thing, but an annoyance. Talked to a Verizon rep who told me the same thing as jasnmar said. Got a case made specifically for the Droid 2 and never had that problem again.

  • Field Report: We Test Drive the Car Dock

The Droid X  can do a lot of things. But, can it do them all at once? That is the proposition behind the car dock. To me, this is the ultimate test of this multifunction device. The dock itself is just a big piece of plastic that can be suctioned to the windshield or (if you REALLY want to screw up a major piece of your car) it can be mounted to the dashboard via a glue-on disk. Simple enough. I mount my GPS devices to the far left bottom corner of the windshield (so I can actually SEE traffic ahead). My fusebox (2003 Audi A4) is just below that. So, pull a fuse and add a simple device that plugs into the fuse spot and gives you a place to slide in the fuse you took out, plus add another fuse to power the big red wire coming off of it. To this I crimp connect on a female cigarette lighter connector. Most parts from AutoZone or RadioShack. Now I have a spot to plug in the unit without running wires all over the dashboard. You can choose a fuse that is always on or only goes on with the ignition. Done? Nope. One little problem. The dock does not contain any connection to the audio out. You have to run a separate wire (UGH!) to the headphone jack. The dock does contain a little grip to hold onto the wire so it just leaves a short dangling piece of wire tethered to the unit rather than lying loose. A nice touch, but I would really rather they get it together with these Android devices and make a standard for a DOCK CONNECTOR!!! Sorry, my pet peeve with these phones.
Once mounted and wired I fire up the car and the phone. Great, the thing is charging (settings>about phone>status>battery status = Charging). I see that, because the phone is in a dock, you get a new "intro" menu instead of the home screen. It appears that the car dock and the multimedia dock have a big magnet in them that triggers some new menus in the phone when you place the phone in the dock. 6 BIG buttons. Easy to hit and giving you the right options (Calling, My Location, Music, Voice Search, Last App or programmable, and Close). You can see what it looks like without a car dock by going to the main apps page and choosing "Car Dock".
I choose music. Again, 6 big buttons (Replay, Start/Stop, Forward, Back, Shuffle, continuous play - at least I think that is what the 2 arrows in an oval shape mean. I never use it). I fire up the stereo and notice LOTS of ignition noise. The music starts and the noise is still there... unacceptable. O.K. Back to Best Buy for a ground loop isolator. They sell these in several flavors. Try to get the one (online - e-Bay) with 3.5mm jacks to minimize the number of adapters. Search e-bay for "ground loop" and pick the 3.5mm one. About $12 - $15 shipped.  I could only get the RCA jack unit at the local Best Buy, so, back to RadioShack for a bunch of adapters to get the 3.5mm cables in and out of the thing. Once done... silence. No noise. But, you have to tinker with the music volume via the rocker switch. Thankfully, they made the dock so the switch is accessible.
O.K. now we want to go back to that big car dock menu. Home button? No, you must press the Menu switch (or pull down the menu from the status bar at the top of the screen and choose "Car Dock" from there - remember, you are multitasking now). There it is. Choose "My Location". You get the screen with a map (after you turn on the method of location - GPS, cell towers, or both) and 3 buttons on the right side (Traffic, Nav, and Google Maps). There is also a little compass button on the bottom right (locate me) and a looped around arrow on the top right (return to the car dock menu). From here you have to choose "Nav" to fire up navigation. The next screen gives you the "My location" and "Endpoint" choices. But nowhere is there "Recent" available. There is a small list icon to the right of the 2 input boxes. Tapping the icon next to the "Endpoint" box gives you the choice to go to a contact's address. Pretty cool. But, if you tap the "Endpoint" box you get the keyboard. Here is where things get a bit weird. There IS a "recent" feature, sort of, but you have to actually start typing something to get at it. Once you type any letter and wait a couple of seconds, the thing tries to match a recent address with what you are typing. Type one letter and you get a scrolling list (left and right scroll) with everything beginning with that letter. OR, you can just tap the microphone button and enter the address via voice. Once you have a destination, you can nav to it. Music playing (volume set by rocker), navigating with voice commands that (unfortunately) click off the music and then click it back on again. I would have preferred it just left the music playing and did the commands OVER the music. Maybe in the next release???? Anyway, the navigate volume is also adjustable. When you have the nav screen up, the rocker switch will adjust the nav command volume.
Great! Tooling along, music playing, navigating to a destination. But, what about when a call comes in? Well, there is good news and bad news. The unit switches over to the call screen, music stops, and turn by turn voice commands cease. That's right. You better either stop talking or pull over. You MAY be able to switch back to the Nav screen to at least SEE the turns. I did not test that yet. I'll give the group an update next week. Also, your car stereo becomes the caller's voice and the units microphone picks you up. Totally hands free. And it is pretty clear on both ends (yours and the caller's). Call ends and you MAY go back to the nav screen. If not, you must pull down the running apps from the top menu bar and choose Nav. You can also choose Car Dock and get that menu to go to the music player or go to Nav.
On one trip, it performed flawlessly. On another it was a disaster. The address it came up with was correct but the location it showed as "you have arrived" was 1/2 mile short. Same street just not there yet. When I tried to enter in my address to return home the thing rebooted. Nav got wierd on the way home and I just gave up. I'll give it a few more trip to see if it is going to work reliably. Till then, running music and making/taking calls appears to be stable.
My recommendation: practice first before you actually have to use the navigate function. It appears a little buggy. Also, carry a dedicated (Garmin) nav unit along as a spare. These devices NEED a cell signal to pull the map routes. Unlike a dedicated GPS with the maps built in, these units need coverage to pull a map. If you are navigating and lose signal, that is O.K. because (we believe) it pulled the maps for the entire route. However, if you go off the route AND lose coverage, you may be stuck. With all the memory these devices have, you should have the option to take a gig or so and keep the entire country map loaded. Next release?
In summary, the car dock and multitasking capabilities work, mostly. Like everything Android, there is a learning curve and it ain't perfect.
    Good Luck,
    Mike

To answer some of your questions
1 - Phone Call - You can get back to Navigation simply when you are on a phone call. Just press hard button 'Back'. Sometimes you get back to the navigation sometimes not. If not, then pull down the notification menu at the top and choose navigation. Back to maps at that point. The only thing at this point is that you lose the little green light bottom left corner. That is your traffic that shows a potential traffic tie up.
2 - End point - You can use your contacts as the end points. For safety, I input places I want to go to to my contacts with their address's. That way it is much easier than to type in the address on the road. You just select contacts, then scroll up/down to the contact where you are going.
3 - You can close (put to the background actually) the car dock program by pressing close. I put an icon on the home screen for the Navigation program so I can go directly into navigation. You can also program one of the buttons for Navigation (the one called App) so you don't have to go to My Location to get to the Navigation. Saves a step or two.
4 - Yes I have had the phone reboot in the dock a couple of times (owned the phone since it came out). I had it reboot twice in one trip one day, but removed the app that I just installed the night before and had it happen maybe once since.
5 - Personally, I would rather the music cut off when voice is telling me directions, if I ran that way. I turn off the voice directions because I can see when to turn, and have become good at seeing the turn within .1 miles of the turn. If it talked over the music, you might miss voice. But that is my personal opinion
6 - I have not had the problem of the map being off. Every time it shows me at the location (with picture of the location) I have been less than 1/2 a football field from the destination.  Not minimizing your experience, I just haven't seen it happen to me.

  • Best Car Dock for Touch

i bought this for both my parents cars. it works and you can use it for more then just an ipod, i had to put some mounting tape on it though, the stuff it comes with is crap.

  • Car Dock Speaker Phone Annoyance

I have a Bluetooth enabled stereo in my car and use it all the time for listening to streamed music and make phone calls from my fascinate.  The Bluetooth phone calling works great when the phone is sat beside me on the passenger seat, however as soon as I put the phone in the car dock, the phone automatically turns to speaker phone and refuses to use the Bluetooth connection.  This is extremely annoying.  Is there a way to disable this default action?

Unfortunately this is how the device is programmed for when it comes into contact with the dock. At this time there is no way to disable it.

my iphone 5 on the ios 7.1.2 suddenly wont fully turn on...it gets stuck on the apple logo and stays like that for approximately to 90 secs then goes blank but I can see a bit of lighting  behind the dark screen....it goes off by itself and comes on by itself trying to boot but still gets stuck on the apple logo after the dim light shows....when I connect to iTunes my phone can only be recognised only in recovery mode thus if I force it into recovery mode. My main worry is I don't have a back up of any of my data...on icloud I have just less than 2GB of my data which is as a result of incomplete back up...HOW CAN I GET THIS PHONE WORKING AGAIN WITHOUT LOSING MY DATA...if I can only just recover my data I would really appreciate it as I really  need almost everything on it back...if I can only get retrieve my data and lose the phone I wouldn't mind at all....Anybody know how to resolve this??Kind Regards

Anyone have any suggestions? or is everyone else just as clueless as me !

  • Looking for a specific car dock... can you help?

I'm looking for a car dock that connects directly to the cig lighter, but uses the 30-pin port for audio transmission to the 3.5mm aux jack on my stereo.  This way I could leave the dock connected to both the cig lighter and aux ports, and only need to place my iPhone in the dock to charge and play tunes (instead of hooking up to the headphone port every time as well).
Anyone know of such a product?  Belkin used to make one for the 3GS, but the TuneDirect for the iPhone 4 requires connecting a separate headphone cord.

Looks like we'll have to put the miracle status on hold for a bit...that's not the article he's looking for. I've seen the same one before, and I'm pretty sure it came from Mark Spencer. He demonstrates the use of the Motion 3 "motion-tracking" tool by shrinking the head of a guy walking across a parking lot. Pretty cool tutorial and not at all the same one in the link above.
Wish I knew where I'd seen it, but I can't recall at the moment.

  • How can I get to home screen from car dock menu when an app is running?

Just upgraded to the RAZR MAXX from a Droid 2 Global.
When the phone is mounted in the car dock and an app is running (Navi, Music, etc.), how can you get to the main home screen of the phone rather than the car dock menu?
    Follow me......
    * Phone is mounted in Car Dock.
    * If there are NO apps running, pressing the BACK key from within the Car Dock Menu takes you directly to the Home screen.
    However.....
    * Phone is mounted in Car Dock.
    * Navigation(or any app, for that matter) is running.
    * Pressing MENU key takes me to Car Dock Menu.
    * There's no exit option available to exit from car dock menu.
    * Pressing BACK key takes you back to the app that's running, not the home screen.
    * Long press of HOME key only takes you to an app list screen, not home screen.
    * Only way to get to home screen is to repeatedly press the BACK button exiting out of the Car Dock Menu and cancelling all apps that are currently running.
On my Droid 2, I was able to quickly exit the Car Dock Menu simply by pressing the BACK or exit button, regardless of which or how many apps were running. They would still run in the background, showing on the status bar.
Anyone know of a work around? I couldn't find any settings to change within the Car Dock menu to change this. Stopped by three Verizon stores and they all say we have to be missing something, as they couldn't figure it out either. One rep told me it was a new "nanny" feature so that you couldn't access your apps while driving, however when I pointed out that you could access the home screen if no apps were running, he wasn't sure what to say.
    Any help?

I solved my problem eventually by getting all the devices - 2 iphones, the newish pc and the older Mac on icloud.
All media, calenders and messages were lost from the iphones, except for purchased itunes that I paid another $30 to Apple to save for me and also paid Appple some more to use icloud but the good news is I did save my contacts
I opened all of my contacts and pretty much had to edit and drag them over almost individually as they weren't all in some sort of configuration that Apple liked - i.e. if an email address ended in ch or es or de it might not be accepted as a properly configured vcard.
It would be nice if Apple made it a litle easier when you have older devices and need to get them in sync with newer ones.

  • Ipod will no longer charge on docking station or car dock

My ipod will no longer charge while it is playing on my docking station or on the car dock. The only way I can charge now is with the genuine charger which means I can only listen for a couple of hours and then have to charge up again. Any ideas?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My car dock is no longer working after iOS 4.3.2 update...help!!

I have an after market car dock that normally plays music through my car speakers and charges my iphone. After the most recent iOS update it still charges but does not play music. Any ideas?

Sometimes after iOS updates older tech or even off brand tech may not be supported. I use an older Griffin car charger with an iPhone & iPad and it won't charge because it is not supported. Maybe get a new dock or an Apple approved product, it kinda irritates me as well not being able to use off brand tech. Its cheaper than brand name products...
    Hope this helped

My phone is not jailbroken.  I don't know what you mean about hacked.   Maybe it is hacked?   This is what is happening: About three times over the past few months I've noticed that my phone while "off" will come on (light up) and the screen shows an arrow towards the bottom; an arrow such that you would see on various "players" in order to "play" video or audio, I've searched my phone and cannot find any app that produces this particular screen though. Once I pick up the phone when this screen myseriously appears out of nowhere and press anything, it goes away and goes to the standard "slider" front page to unlock the phone.

  • My mini comes on by itself and skips

My ipod mini suddenly started coming on by itself at random times. Also, when playing, it will sometimes start ten seconds into the song, or skip 25 seconds in the middle of the song, or just shuffle to another song while it's in the middle of playing another. I've done a reset and it helped some....it hasn't come on by itself lately but it is still skipping. And of course my warranty expires in two more days.

"My ipod mini suddenly started coming on by itself at random times"
You most likely have an alarm set.
To check go to extras/clock/alarm and set it to off. Check the calendar also, extras/calendar/alarm.
For the skipping issue, try this.

  • Still Having Problem with Battery Overheating with Car Dock/Charger when using Maps/Navigation

I'm having a problem with the battery overheating when using Google Navigation in the OEM Samsung car dock and car charger.  On a trip last weekend, I started off with a fully charged battery (because posts on other sites have complained that the Charge cannot keep up with the power draw of the Google nav app while using the car charger).  About an hour into my trip, I got a message that the battery was overheating and to unplug the charger which I did.  I then had to contend with the screen going out because it was running on the battery.  I let the phone discharge to about 70% then tried the car charger again.  Within a few minutes, I got the same overheating message.  It was not an overly hot day and the car A/C was set at 68 degrees.
This morning (with the battery at about 85%) I tried to use the Navigation without the car dock while charging and got the same results...the phone battery overheated and I had to unplug the charger. The battery temperature reached 116 degrees. (also, the battery level was also dropping while using the Maps or Nav application even though it was hooked up to the car charger).
I'm very disappointed with this situation since I was hoping I could replace my old Garmin GPS with the Charge.  But between the phone dimming the screen while running on battery, and having a depleted battery in the phone at the end of the trip, its just not a viable option.  I really like this phone, but I'm running against the "return" clock.
    Any ideas?
Could this be a software problem that will be corrected by an update in the future?
fyi:  other Charge problems in the last 5 days:
    - dropping audio on calls to other Verizon phones.
    - use of camera flash causing the phone to reboot.
(I do have the 'class 4' 32gb card in my Charge)
    Thanks in advance,
    Rich

    Jerry:
Yes, the phone is charging while in the car dock.  I confirmed it both under the "about phone-status-battery status" menu and by my battery widget.  By watching the battery widget, I also noticed that the voltage steadily increased over the ride home.  It started at about 3.90 volts and ended at 4.02 volts.  I don't know if that is significant.  This time the battery did not overheat.  The Max temp was 110 degrees, but no notice to disconnect came up.  This might be because the sun was behind me on the drive home rather than beating down on the dash like it was this weeked.
I've ordered a cheap universal dock from Amazon for about $15.00 which clips onto the a/c vent.  I want to see if this keeps the temperature down.  If this works, I can still return the fancy-schmantzy Samsung OEM car dock. (The car-dock interface wasn't that impressive anyway).
Please let me know if the volt change means anything.
And thanks again for your help!
    Rich

  • How about we lobby Verizon/HTC for a car dock that can accommodate the extended battery?!

I had picked up my Thunderbolt on release day and a few days later opted to purchase an extended battery (Verizon/HTC brand 2750mAh).  Later in the week, I wanted to purchase the Thunderbolt specific car-dock only to find out that it will only fit the HTC Thunderbolts using the standard battery.  I am not about to swap out my battery every time I get into and out of my vehicle (which is often) and I will not give up the extended battery life.
Hey Verizon?!  Since the stock battery's life is somewhat weak, and so many will end up purchasing an extended battery, how about you re-design a windshield mount, so that those of us with the larger capacity batteries can have a little automotive dock love?!
    Regards,
    Spence

It doesn't need to be a seperate product so much s a re-design of the existing one with a cavity across the back.
ProClipUSA markets phone holders with extended batteries in mind, and they even integrate the magnetic trigger to place the phone into "nav mode".  I guess I stick with the universal mount that I have ordered via eBay until ProClipUSA announces that their product is up for sale.
