Car won't read CDR of MP3's burned from MAC (works from PC)

Hi-
I just recently switched from PC to MAC (27" iMAC - Snow Leopard).
My car can read/play mp3s from a CDR...I've been doing this successfully with my old PC. However, I just recently burned some new Data CDRs (full of mp3s) on my new iMAC and my car will not read them.
I burned the data CDRs using the program "Burn". The problem is not the type of CDRs (same kind I used on the old PC and play fine in the car).
I guess my next test will be to burn another data CDR of mp3s, but this time NOT put them in folders...just all in the root directory. I wonder if that is the problem...that my car can't read the MAC code related to the folder structure (though my car can read the folder structure burned from PCs). Even if this works, it ***** playing a disc full of mp3s all in the same root folder, in a car, cuz it never reads your file-name structure in the exact order you want it to.
I'd appreciate any helpful advice/insight anyone may have on this problem.
Thanks!

OS X adds some additional metadata when burning data CDs. The extensions are written in such away that readers should ignore them if they don't know what to do with them, but it's possible your CD player is buggy or doesn't fully comport with ISO9660.
Have you tried burning the MP3 CD with iTunes? (Create a playlist, click "Burn Disc" at the bottom right, select "MP3 CD".)

  • Mac mini drive won't read a windows disc?

I'm trying to put Windows XP on my computer (for work -- to run Quickbooks Pro 2007) and I've tried Parallels, Crossover and VMFusion and with each program, when it comes time to put the disc in, it won't read it. I bought a Windows XP Professional from online, and it came shrink wrapped and with a product key. No. It says it can't read it.
Then, I brought mine from home which has the product key on it. That one it won't even recognize. I don't even hear the drive spinning.
I'm at a loss. I've been all over the web looking for an answer or even someone who's had this problem.
Please help. I need to get QB running, and I very briefly tried QB for Mac, and it was not sufficient.
    Thanks in advance ...

When installing Windows XP using VMWareFusion you need to remember to click in the VMFusion window to make it active so that you can select the option to install from the CD.
Hope this helps. I forgot to do it and ended up frustrated the first time.

  • When using USB input iPod classic won't read in new car

Just bought a new car with a factory iPod ready stereo system. When using the USB input iPod Classic won't read but son's iPod touch does. Anyway I can fix this? I know my Classic works fine as I was using it in my other car and it works in my wife's car. Is the car just too new therefore making my Classic incompatible and soon to be obsolete?

the best option is to contact the car manufacturer or look at the manual to make sure it supports your ipod verision. if it is a custom radio then look then contact the manufacturer or look at the manual for same thing. you can try a reset with http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320.

  • Nokia 5310 XpressMusic won't read MP3 tags

    Hi,
I got the 5310 for Christmas of 2008. For a long time it was reading MP3 tags just fine (up until maybe three or four months ago). But, now, it seems that most of my MP3s I transfer, it won't read the tags on it. Usually if the album art is embedded to the MP3 it'll still read that, but it won't read song title, artist, album, track number, etc. However, this doesn't affect ALL of the MP3s. Maybe 15-20% of my MP3s are still read, even though they're tagged with the same program at the same time (I've tried tagging with both foobar2000 and iTunes and had the same result as far as what the phone will read). I don't know why it does this; I can open files directly off of my phone to foobar2000 and iTunes and both programs read every tag on every MP3 fine.
Does anyone have suggestions for what to try to fix this? Maybe a different tagging program or something to do to the phone to get it to read the tags. It gets really annoying not having the option to sort by artist or album.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The music player reads ID3v2 tags and NOT ID3v1. Make sure that you have them in place. Some PC applications show and modify only ID3v1 tags. I don't use either of the apps that you mentioned, so, can't tell you if they are doing it. What I would suggest is to check the ID3v2 tags using Winamp/jetAudio (in windoze) or BMP/mplayer/amarok (in linux), and if necessary, update it and then transfer back to your phone.
    Cheers,

  • ITunes won't read ID3 tags that Windows sees

I recently switched my library over from a Mac laptop to a PC desktop. I have about 70 GB of perfectly organized music accumulated over years and years.
In the process, after I loaded some songs into iTunes (using the Keep My iTunes Folder Organized and all that stuff), I noticed that about 10 GB of music were without titles, artists, or album info, and just displayed the name of the MP3 file (so like instead of displaying 15 Step by Radiohead from In Rainbows, Track 1 it displayed "01 15 Step" in the Title column only).
The problem is that when I navigate to these songs in Windows Explorer, not only do I see all of the correct ID3 information, I see the extras like Album Art have loaded perfectly as well. I can play these songs in Windows Media Player and the ID3 info is perfect.
Does anyone know why iTunes won't read these ID3 tags or how to get iTunes to read them?

I am also having the same problem with about 200 of my MP3s. The tag info shows up perfectly using QuickLook on Leopard, but in iTunes I can't see any of the info. I have tried converting the ID3 tag version, revesing the unicode....nothing.
    Have you had any luck?

  • CD burns but won't read???

    hello,
I have tried inserting numerous cd's into emac drawer in which only some will be read. the tray has no problem ejecting. The cd's that won't read, once inserted, make a double sounding "buzz" sound or "brr-brr" noise- not the usual spinning "wirrll" sound. As the tray is out i move it around with the cd inside and taht will sometimes make a difference. It seems that there is an alignment problem as the tray feels loose and easy to jiggle. CDR's sometimes work yet commercial cd's always work. Have tried a number of cleaning runs as well as tried in test account and have recently cleaned hard drive. Can someone help with this issue??

I too was plagued by the SuperDrive problems back in August. I had 6 (yes...six) MacBooks before I gave up and returned the last one for my money back.
Well, I just re-purchased a new Core 2 Duo Macbook with optomistic hesitation. And I am happy to report - I have a completely functional system now. I think Apple is quietly listening - even if they don't admit it.
    I am extremely pleased now.

  • Auto CD Player won't read disk I just burned

I have a G5 iMac, about a month old. If I burn a CD, the CD reads on my PowerBook and wife's G4. However, it won't play in my car. This is puzzling because a friend burned me a disk of tunes, also using iTunes, and that played in my car with no problems.
Symptom: I insert the disk and the car's CD player thinks for a few seconds, sometimes longer, and then spits out the CD.
The tunes in question were purchased from the iTunes store. Does that make a difference?
    ??

ShepArt, thanks. Unfortunately, that's not the problem. I did have it set for Audio. I also did an on-line check with Apple. The agent claimed that the problem was probably the media, and that my car's player might not recognize any but certain kinds of CDs. I then bought some "music CDs," which Fry's insisted would work. No dice. The CD plays on other comptuers, but not in my car or in a boombox. I burned at 8X.

  • Compiler won't read modified files

Does anyone know why Flash would suddenly stop loading
    recently saved class files?
Until now, I've been able to make changes to an Actionscript
file, save the file, and then test the SWF to see the changes.
Now it seems as though the modified files are not getting
read by the compiler. To see the changes, I need to restart Flash
    (even then, there's no guarantee).
My guess is that I've inadvertantly changed a setting
    somewhere.
    Anyone know what gives?

Aperture 3.5.1 and the camera is the Olympus OM-D E-M5.
And yes, Aperture will convert the RAW/ORF files but the devil is in the details. And since you asked (sort of), here are the details:
I own and have happily used Photoshop CS4 for the layered compositing I like to do, but it won't support ORF files
I tried importing/converting them in Aperture then editing in PS4 ... but Aperture 3 and PS4 don't play together well, so many come back as "unsupported file format"
Apple can't fix the problem and Adobe no longer supports PS4... put another way, Apple can't do anythig but they care, and Adobe could do everything but they don't care
It got worse when I upgraded to Mavericks, so to get around that I had to upgrade to Photoshop CC and pay the monthly "rental"
Aperture and Photoshop now work, but the demands of running them both are beyond my aging iMac that can't be upgraded, so I have to buy a new one, but the monthly fee (which everybody assumes will only go up in cost)  + purchase of a new iMac for a guy on a fixed income are too much
So, I thought if I used DNG to convert the ORF files I could import them into Aperture for all the basics and organization, then use PS4 for the compositing... but Aperture won't read the DNG conversions.
And that, as the man used to say, is the name of that tune,

  • Photoshop CS won't read 5.2 DNG files

I recently had a student use the stand alone DNG converter V.5.2 on his Canon 5D Mark II raw files but Photoshop CS won't read the resultant .dng files. Our copy of CS3 reads them ok but he only has CS and neither his version of CS nor ours will read the files. My understanding has been that .dng files can be read by any version of Photoshop that works with Raw files. Is this no longer true? Or was it never true? Thanks.
    -dave-

    Hi Thomas,
Installing 2.4 took care of the problem. Boy, does the CS version of Camera Raw seem crude compared to the full featured version you've given us now. I remember it as being pretty impressive at the time but I sure wouldn't want to have to go back to it. I think I've convinced the student how much he's missing out on by not having CS4 but at least he'll be able to work with his Raw files until he upgrades. Thanks for your help.

  • Not enough memory to read CDR-DVDRs?

I searched the forum for the issue of Macbooks not reading DVD+R and I've came across several threads but I wonder if my problem might be due to a different issue. Several months ago I downloaded all the seasons of the "The Office" from itunes because I travel a lot and wanted them on my computer for long plane flights. I decided recently I want to back up the movies to disc for two reasons, one being because I want to reinstall my mac (to clear up some glitches from accumulated gunk over the years) and because my free memory is now low due to all the videos which makes the mac run a little slower. However when I insert the DVD+Rs, they won't read and it ejects them. I've tried two different brands so far. I was able to insert CDRs however, until recently, now the Macbook doesn't even seem to take CDRs. Sometimes it takes them but it won't burn itunes playlist. I think its the low memory. I tried to reinstall anyway with the option of saving all of my files, but it said I didn't even have the memory available to do the reinstall. Any suggestions?
Here is some info: Mac OSX version 10.5.8 2ghz Memory 1 GB
Activity Monitor says free memory is between 12-15 MB, Wired is 271, Active is 472, inactive 241, used 990

Oooh... That's bad. You should have about 10% of your hard drive space free at any given time or 10GB which ever is more. With only 4.33GB left on your hard drive, you can expect to be experiencing some significant performance issues which will only get worse as your available space becomes less and less. At critical levels, you can expect to start encountering stability issues as well.
You definitely need either a larger hard drive or you'll need to free up as much space as you can on your current drive. You can try Omni's free DiskSweeper:
    http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/
This will show you where the majority of your space is being used. If you're not sure what something is, don't delete it... just come back here and ask about it... but if you find you have a lot of personal files taking up space, consider moving them to an external drive or, if you don't need them, consider deleting them.

  • Satellite M30X: drive won't read data DVD-R's but plays DVD-R movies and CD's

    I have a Toshiba M30X with DVD/CDRW combi drive.
I have accumulated 12gb of digital photo's that I wanted to clear but did not fancy the number of CD's that entailed so I purchased a LITEON EZ-DUB external DVD rewriter and made 3 DVD-R's full of JPEG's.
However, when I put these DVD's in the Toshiba combi drive, it clicks away for a moment or two but when I click on the combi drive in My Computer, the folder is empty and it says there's 0 bytes.
CD's still work, both audio and data, DVD movies play just fine, DVD-R's made on my Pioneer DVD recorder (for TV - looks like a video/nothing to do with PC) play fine, but it will not recognise DVD-R's with data (JPEG's or MP3's) on them.
It makes no difference which software was used (both Nero 6.6 and LITEON EZDUB) and it doesn't matter whether the discs are finalised, single session, multi session or what - it won't play any of them.
These discs however work perfectly in my 7 year old desktop with a 4 year old Sony DVD/CDRW combi.
    I'm stumped.
I don't particularly want to reinstall windows in case it doesn't recognise the Recovery DVD and I seem to remember Microsoft One Note having to be activated by telephone with a code that is different each time you ask it to generate one.
It's a bit of a pain as I wanted to carry my photo's with me in my laptop bag.
I don't want to be carting around an external DVD writer just to read the DVD's.
    I've updated the firmware for SD-R 2512.
It had no effect other than to freeze on an all black screen during restart - I had to hold down the power switch after 15 minutes in that condition.
The laptop is 1 year and 26 days old if that counts for anything.
Anyone have any ideas? Or do I just put up with it.

    Hi
Well, I can only make some suggestions.
You are able to place many MP3 and Jpeg files on the DVD.
Maybe this is a reason why the explorer cannot handle the DVD.
Try to burn the DVD with JEPG picture but don't make the DVD full with these files.
You should let a free space on the medium. Maybe it helps.
But it's very strange for me and this is only a suggestion. I have never tired it and don't know if it helps.
I had a similar issue on my notebook but I have solved it by using a compatible medium. Some drives prefer different mediums for different kind of files.

    Hi David,
Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?
