Carbon footprint of an in-memory applicance

Hi,
can you make any estimation on the carbon footprint, or performance/watt ratio,  of an in-memory database (or applicance)?
Keeping all data in memory, i.e. online,  could require more power than keeping only the data with frequent access and putting all other data on discs, i.e. offline.

It's an interesting question. I will just add my personal view.
First, in-memory databases use disks (or SSD) to persist data. There can also be a distinction between hot (always in-memory) and cold data (only read from disk to memory when needed). So just looking at "more memory uses more power" is not going to cut it.
Secondly, the a single SAP In-memory Appliance might be able to replace several traditional servers. For example, the next version could be used as a database server for SAP NetWeaver BW and replace a BW Accelerator appliance. Future versions of the in-memory appliance will consolidate database and application servers. Overall you will need less hardware i.e. consume less power.
Finally, power consumption of hardware components like CPUs and memory is basically being reduced with every new hardware generation. Since the in-memory appliance uses very current hardware (for example, Intel CPUs), it's save to assume that you get pretty energy efficient solutions.
In summary, I would say an in-memory solution has a significantly smaller footprint than comparable other solutions.

Marc

  • Carbon Footprint Inventory

Hey, following up on the sustainability webinar on 15  February (thanks for that!):
is there any way to get acquainted with SAP's Carbon Footprint tool?
I.e., how is it connected to the underlying data warehouse (BW?), what are the data sources, is there a 'best practice' architecture (or not yet maybe?), how do you store and maintain carbon emission factors, where did you take these from (GHG protocol?) etc.
I have been reading into carbon footprint estimation, and my current (non-data-warehouse) approach involves a lot of excel
spreadsheets and a lot of manual scrolling through standard emission factors literature. I guess the big advantage of having an underlying data warehouse is a more automated and less painful data input, so I'm interested in how this actually works in the SAP methodology.
    Thanks!

    Patricia:
Thanks for the feedback, and excellent follow-up questions.  With only an hour, we barely dented the surface of the business processes beneath the data collection, validation and presentation layers  (I also want to point out Jonas Dennler's contribution during the webcast). Michael should be able to share the slides, and I'm sure there are white papers on the methodologies used.

  • Small footprints?

Cisco sems to be good at 'small carbon footprint', which is all well and good, but...
I have to nail the switches onto the wall because they no longer fit in the d@mn racks!
Not every building has a full-depth rack, unfortunately. In older buildings I have to make do with what was put in for phone patching.
And often, if we don't watch the contractors very carefully, they still sneak in shallow racks today.
    And you can't get a full-depth 8U rack.
    (For smaller locations)
Having a bunch of 2960 8ports is a mess both in the rack and management wise.
Is it really that difficult to build shallow-depth switches?
    I'd love 24port or 48port switches that's no deeper than the stone-age 2950 (9.5" ), even if they were 2U instead of 1U...
    Sorry... Just wenting...
(About to start replacing 3750-24port switches with 2960XR-48ports... and in dire need of a shoehorn... )

It seemed to me that switches starting being 45-50cm deep when PoE and stackable switches came out.
You have to think of the features such as stacking, PoE, power stacking, redundant PSU's etc.
If you want all these features, then you are going to get deeper switches to accommodate bigger PSU's and fans etc for cooling.
The can't get wider so they will need to get deeper :)

  • Why won't photoshop touch 1.4.1 open on the archos 97 carbon tablet?

I can't get photoshop touch 1.4.1 to open on my archos 97 carbon tablet - can anyone help with this please? I have tried downloading it several times - most of the time it just goes to a black screen. Google play listed it as compatable with the archos 97 carbon and there is enough memory available so i can't figure out what the problem is.

    Hi Guido,
We have tried to upload photoshop through the computer, but the result is just the same. It seems to download o.k. with the icon appearing in with the other icons. When selected it pulls up the photoshop logo screen after about 6 seconds, (but only on the first attempt, after that you have to clear the data for it to do even this.) It then pulls up 'end user accept/decline'. When you touch the accept button it displays 'help us improve our products' and at the bottom of the page and a double image of the license/online privacy allow/don't allow also appears. When you touch to accept 'help us improve our products' the 'begin a tutorial /project' appears. When you touch either of these the screen goes black and stays black.
Hope this helps you sort it out

  • Difference between SAP Carbon Impact and SAP EHS - Environment Compliance

I am confused between the functionality offered by SAP Carbon Impact and how different it is from SAP EHS Management - Environment Compliance. I understand that both of them are different technical products from SAP with Carbon Impact being an on-demand solution which was acquired from Clear Standards earlier this year.
However they seem to have an overlap in their functionality. Even the websites seem to talk about addressing similar issues.
[SAP EHS Management - Environment Complaince|http://www12.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/erp/corporate_services/ehs/features-functions/environmental-compliance-software/index.epx]
    [SAP Carbon Impact|http://www12.sap.com/solutions/sustainability/offerings/carbon-impact/index.epx]
Has anyone used both the solutions and can tell what the difference is between the two in terms of their business functionality?

Hi Girish. While these two solutions both help manage environmental emissions, the specific pain points each address are distinctly different. Hopefully I can help explain. <p>
Environmental Compliance (EC) is a solution designed to help manage the heavy regulatory burdens associated with emission related compliance. EC helps you measure and monitor your direct emissions irrespective of medium (i.e. air, water, or solid waste) and manage these emissions against regulatory requirements. As an example, Title V air permits are typically hundreds of pages long and filled with numerous requirements and conditions. In order to meet the demands of the permit, thousands of tasks must be managed throughout the plantu2014be it calibrating a piece of machinery or measuring the sulfur content of fuel oil. EC provides a framework to break the permit down into its respective pieces and establish workflows to ensure compliance by managing the required tasks against the associated emissions. You can also set emission limit alerts in EC to trigger specified actions to help you proactively address your emissions as opposed to a more reactive approach taken after a permit requirement has been broken. EC also helps with the regulatory reporting of your emissions and compliance efforts by enabling you to create templatized versions of commonly required reportsu2014all available at the push of a button, or they can even be automated. <p>
Carbon Impact (CI) also helps you measure and monitor your emissions, but the real focus of this solution is on gathering enterprise-wide greenhouse gas emissions across geographies and scopes. For example, CI allows you to capture your direct emissions (Scope 1), your electricity emissions (Scope 2), and your indirect emissions (Scope 3). Scope 3 emissions are also sometimes referred to as supply chain emissions (both upstream and downstream) and can be the most difficult emissions category to capture when creating your enterpriseu2019s carbon inventory. For example, letu2019s say you own a steel mill. The ore that comes into your plant has an associated upstream greenhouse gas emission arising from the mining process and when you ship your final product there are emissions associated with the transport of your product to your customer. Beyond the plant, employee travel is another type of Scope 3 emission. If your company already runs SAP, you will benefit from CIu2019s integration into our Suite that allows you to quickly access your different sources of emissionsu2014be they Scope 1, 2, or 3. One of the advantages of CIu2019s on demand delivery model is that SAP maintains updated emission factors for various materials and activities from various authoritative sources including the EPA and GHG Protocol; with this prepackaged content you no longer need to do the work of tracking down the correct emission factor and making sure it is up to date. In addition to calculating your enterprise carbon footprint, CI also gives you the tools to evaluate different abatement projects to reduce your overall environmental impact. CI also provides reporting capabilities to help with the voluntary reporting processes associated with, for example, the Global Reporting Initiative or the Carbon Disclosure Project.<p>
Often times a helpful way to understand the difference between the two solutions is to think about how they work together. If you implemented both of them, EC would be the solution that would help you collect direct emissions data and manage the associated regulatory requirements. The EC emission data would then feed into Carbon Impact to represent your direct emissions. Carbon Impact would then gather your remaining emissions as described above to give you your entire emission footprint and then help identify the best way to reduce it.

  • BI + Carbon Emissions Management = A New Career Opportunity Trend...

    Dear Richard
Well said Richard. Definately this new move will generate a lot of job prospect for not only BI but also those who are with domains such as EH&S. The idea of linking of Clear Standards with Financial and even with existing SAP EHS (Emission Management) is not only challenging but also highly lucritive. Creation of InfoCubes for such requirement and advanced reporting requirements for complying with Green Trading, annual submission of data and Optimization of Supply Chain Process for carbon footprint will definately add more potential.
Even I strongly believe in future linking of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for optimum network allocation for carbon foot print management will also come in to this pack  (SAP, Clear Standards, EHS and GIS), generating more jobs and scope and finally wide peneration of SAP for Carbon Demand management.
    Regards
    Jayakumar

    Jayakumar,
Well said by you as well! There is an abundance of "green sustainable" opportunity at a global and regional level. It both exists and is emerging. Your points are all "spot on" and I like the one on GIS.
A few data points that I continue to follow...

Certainly there are many opportunities for the private, public, and university leaders to collaborate! These steps are happening and they will continue in the marketplace!
    Let's keep our lines open!

  • X201 - Initial Thoughts

My x201 just arrived this afternoon -  patience to all those still waiting for their machines to clear the Louisville depot, it'll be worth it!
    A handful of initial reactions:
Hooray for minimal packaging!!  - Since this thing already has a hefty Carbon Footprint associated with the shipping, its nice to see Lenovo pair down any extras.  Just the box, cable, and one plastic bag with the manual (only about 20 pages) - oh yeah, and the computer.
The machine is really light (6cell config) - my point of reference is a 9cell x60 tablet (about 4.7lbs) so dropping down to 3lbs is nice.
Its a touch wider than the x60, but more narrow by at least an inch or two. Thickness is right around 1" -  pretty much the same as the x60.
Mine's configurated with the SSD, so its as silent as can be - I heard the CPU fan throttle (barely audible) just once in the last half dozen startups.
Comes plastered with 5 (quickly removed) badges for everything: Energy Star, Win7, Intel i7, Verizon, and Lenovo.  A sharp knife or Xacto blade will get rid of them easily.
The latch to open the lid is a little more quirky than what I'm used to on the x60 - that one just slid right open, on the x201, it sticks just a little bit.  Same goes for the physical WiFi switch on the left side. Its just a little bit harder to push into place than the one I'm used to.
The one USB-slot being yellow is just a Thinkpad design feature, like the power plug right? I didn't bother firing up PC Wizard yet, but I'm pretty sure that there's no USB 3.0 support on this thing.
Setting up Windows was easy. Once past that, then the real work began. This thing is *loaded* with bloatware. Verizon WWAN, Office trial, antivirus trial, a lot of Lenovo software (some of it is useful and I kept! but most was unnecessary) - I spent about 15 minutes going through a couple dozen entries on the Remove Programs screen just trimming the waste.  This is my only major disappointment so far - with as much crap as manufacturers are getting for loading their machines with crap, its a wonder that they continue to do so. Heck, doesn't Lenovo offer a machine pre-installed with Linux (one of the Ubuntu variants?)
Looks like there is a Lenovo parition of about 10GB (only 3 used) - I'll be getting rid of that pretty soon.
Having both the Trackpad and Trackpoint is nice - but I'm so used to the Trackpoint that I haven't really used the Trackpad much yet.
The integrated Intel HD graphics that come on the i7 (and i5?) chips looks like it'll hold up just fine.  Hulu at full screen with absolutely no hiccups.
Haven't checked the RAM on this machine to see if its EPP-ready.  Will get around to it eventually.
If anyone has questions, I'm happy to try to answer.

OK, so you should be pleased with the results.
I switched back to the Intel Controller that the computer came loaded with and TRIM is enabled (when I ran the test from the Command Prompt, I got a "0")
In case you're curious its the:  "Intel 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller"
As for the R/W times, there's really not too much difference between the the Intel and the standard Win 7 driver.
I'd post the images, but too lazy to go find some place to host them.
This is all running CrystalDiskMark 2.2, BTW:

As for the Firmware upgrade for the Drive, I'm not sure that the particular FW upgrade is applicable to this drive.
I just ran PC Wizard for the specs and here's what the Drive is:

The PDF at the Firmware page lists a different Revision number altogether.

  • When you buy an N97 mini, what is in the box?

    Hi,
I just purchased an N97 mini from All Phones and it does not have a cd (for the pc program) or a memory card. Does it come with a cd or a memory card. Those who purchased one please let me know what was in the box. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

You do not need the CD ever, all it contains is an older version of the ovi suite software. Just download it from the link above if you want that software.
The download contains all the required drivers so again the CD is not needed.
Fewer phones are shipping without CD's now and some don't even contain a full manual. It's because companies are trying to be "green" and reduce their carbon footprint.
You can connect the phone to the computer without installing any additional software, just connect it in mass storage mode and it will behave like an external hard drive. You can then transfer files, pictures and music at will.

  • How do I install Lion on a bare drive?

When major OS versions are released I wipe a drive completely and install the new OS and my apps. I do not use Migration assistant. I install clean.. from scratch. Over the years this has helped maintain a very stable OS and eliminated 90% of slowdowns, reinstalls, and troubleshooting.
But.. how do I do that with Lion? I do not want to install 10.6. I want to use a bare drive and install 10.7.
Do I download 10.7 burn the download to disc then use that? Will the download allow burning a boot disc?
    Thanks!

    BackupLionBootable 10.7  Disk
Purchaseanddownload Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatibleMacrunning Snow Leopard.
Right click on “Mac OS X     Lion”     installer and choose the option to     “Show Package Contents.”
Inside the Contents folder     that     appears you will find a SharedSupport     folder and inside the     SharedSupport folder     you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is         the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to         another folder like the Desktop.
Launch Disk Utility and click     the     burn button.
Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to     burn,     insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD,     and wait for your new Lion Boot     Disc to come     out toasty hot.
With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, andinstall10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. Youcaneven use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion bootdiscimage onto a external drive suitable for performing a cleaninstallon a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server.
    Installing Lion clean
How will customers perform a clean     upgrade of Lion?
And how will IT departments install Lion across multiple     Macs?
The answer to these questions is a MacFirst Aid Kit, a specially formatted external hard drive thatcontains the required operating system and software to install Liononto any compatible Mac. All it takes is seven easy steps.
Purchase and download Lion from     the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Mac running Snow Leopard.
Launch Disk Utility and go     straight to the restore tab. Drag “InstallESD.dmg” the Source     field, and drag your external hard drive from the left side of the     Disk Utility window into the Destination field. Check Erase     Destination, and begin your restore. (It goes without saying this     process will erase everything on your external hard drive.)
Once Disk Utility's restoration is     complete you will be the proud owner of a Mac Frist Aid Kit capable     of booting and installing Lion clean. Test out your creation by     restarting any Lion compatible Mac while holding the option key, and     choose Mac OS Install ESD as the startup volume.
Once booted from the Lion enabled     partition on your external drive ou will have the opportunity to run     Disk Utility and erase your Mac's primary hard drive. From the Erase     tab select your Mac's primary hard drive and choose “Mac OS     Extended (Journaled)” as the format. Before you erase the drive     confirm you have a known good backup then click Erase…
With your Mac's primary hard drive wiped clean it is now time     to begin installing Lion. Quit Disk Utility to go back to the Lion     installer. Choose your Mac's primary hard drive as the destination,     and continue.
When the installation process is complete your Mac will have aclean copy of Lion installed on its primary hard drive, and you willhave an Mac First Aid Kit suitable for installing Lion on other Macsin the future.
Shipping software costs money, burns fuel, and requires a trip tothe store. By releasing Lion exclusively though the Mac App StoreApple is saving money, reducing its carbon footprint, and giving itscustomers convenience. Customers who own a MacBook Air or Mac miniserver will benefit most from the lack of installation media becauseApple saw it fit to ship these computers without a built-in opticaldrive. Performing a clean install of Lion is not required, but withan external hard drive it is easy to do across multiple Macs.

  • EPSON Stylus Color 1160 changing default print quality under 10.4

    Greetings.
I have the above printer and since Epson no longer produces a driver that will function under 10.4 I am using the Gimp driver. Which works fine.
The printer is connected to our server and so functions as a ‘shared printer’ in the network. The server runs 10.4.8.
However I would like to tweak the default settings for all users.
One of the things we use this printer for is to make drafts for checking text or layouts. The default setting is for an excellent print quality. I would like to change this to a lower resolution (saves ink > saves money > saves planet > reduces carbon footprint, ;-)))
Anybody knows how to do this?
    Thanks

    Greg good morning,
It did solve it partly. Here is what I have now. If printing directly from the computer the printer is connected from now is no problem, the settings have changed.
However as this is my server (the Epson is connected to it via USB) printing from the other machines have not changed the standard dialog box.
When I try access the Epson setup via http://127.0.0.1:631/printers on the individual computers I get:
Forbidden. You don't have permission to access the resource on this server. <</div>
Any suggestions as to how to solve this so I have there also the standard box changed? Reason is of course that on the individual computers the dialog is generated locally and their settings are following the standard rule than send to the printer, bypassing the setting of the printer. So question is, how to get in to this dialogue?

  • SAP walking the talk

In a [blog post|/people/franz.hero/blog/2009/04/14/what-are-they-thinking-part-2-about-sustainability] titled What are they thinking!?! Part 2 about Sustainability, Franz Hero of SAP said:
"SAP will reduce CO2 emissions per employee per 60% until 2020. This will be achieved by:
    - less travel
    - a different company car policy
    - better facility management
    - investing in communication infrastructure
    - Green IT
    - and other measures.
This is a very ambitious goal but we can only create credibility in the market if we as SAP also behave in a very sustainable manner. Personally this means I will give back my SUV and will replace it by a much more fuel efficient car next month."
I have differentiated the components of the reduction plan to ask the next questions:
    - which of these components has the most potential?
    - which components will be the hardest to achieve
    - how will SAP measure "green IT"?
    Jim

Hi Tom I appreciate your reply.
I work in SAP's standards team so I totally understand and agree with you that measurement of CO2 emissions is not easy and that standard ways of measuring CO2 emissions are needed. However, a standard is only worthwhile if it both fulfills the requirement and is widely implemented. I've personally had the experience of developing "standards" (before I worked for SAP) that met a real need but only had a few implementations and so the significant time and effort I spent in developing the standard was, ultimately, wasted. SAP completely understands the need for sustainability standards generally and for standards around CO2 emissions in particular, but we are still working out where we can most usefully invest the resources available so that the work we do results in standards that are actually implemented and don't sit on the shelf - it's not a straightforward thing to do.
You ask if I have kids. Yes I do. I would also like to protect the environment and reduce global warming. One idea I have is to put solar panels on my roof in sunny California. However, the roof consists of 48 year old wood shingles. It doesn't leak, but will need replacing soon. So, if I were to install solar panels I would need to replace the roof at the same time. Quite an expensive proposition. I also have one child. For the last few years, I've been funding my child's university education. This has stopped me from installing solar panels since I couldn't afford to do both. I hope you will agree with me that I made the right choice in deciding to invest in my child's education.
Businesses face very similar problems. Every business, including SAP, is constrained in what they can do by the resources and funds they have available - particularly in these stressed economic times. This is why the amount of money that can be invested in sustainability initiatives is limited even if there might be a positive return on investment and the benefit to the environment is substantial. Choices always have to be made. That said, SAP has many initiatives designed to make SAP more sustainable and reduce its carbon footprint because it's the right thing to do - more details will be available in due course. I believe that SAP genuinely wants to "walk the talk" and make itself more sustainable which is why we announced a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions down to year-2000 levels by the year 2020 - see [http://www.sap.com/about/newsroom/press.epx?pressid=10988].
SAP has also been thinking a lot about Green IT, but unfortunately we're not quite ready to talk in detail. I'd be interested to know what you think the scope of Green IT should be.

  • Sustainability through BPM

Sustainibility covers ethical, environmental, social, and governance values, and Business Process Management of any company has the power to turn it's sustainability strategy into execution.
Companies need and want a consistent and integrated business process to address sustainability initiatives. Business process management (BPM), can help companies standardize and optimize operational processes to reduce costs, improve quality, and ensures corporate sustainability too. This is the way forward to design, model, implement, run, monitor, operate, and improve business processes, while ensuring sustainable operations flexibly throughout their lifecycle.
It is at this level of Business Process Management that companies can allign their sustainibility strategies with their processes. IT is the backbone of businesses today, and thus can be used in ensuring the same allignment. The media often chooses to make a general statement that IT's role in addressing sustainability objectives is limited to Green IT, or reducing the use of energy in data centers. While the savings can be substantial, the fact is that only 2% of all carbon emissions can be traced to this source.
However, the use of IT lies in addressing the remaining 98% of carbon emissions! In fact, a recent report by the Climate Group, with supporting independent analysis by McKinsey, found that Information and Communications Technology (ICT) could reduce global carbon emissions by an amount five times larger than its own carbon footprint("SMART 2020: Enabling the Low Carbon Economy in the Information Age", The Climate Group, 2008).
Coming to the point of ethics in Business, we need to erase the myth that the field of business ethics has traditionally been the domain of philosophers, academics and social critics. Business Process management gives the power to the people primarily responsible for managing the business to also ensure ethics in the workplace. We need to understand Ethics programs do produce deliverables, e.g., codes, policies and procedures, budget items, meeting minutes, authorization forms, newsletters, etc. and BPM helps in estabilishing processes around these.
Energy and natural resource efficiency is more important now than ever before. Natural resources continue to become increasingly scarce and expensive. Business Process management can take control of your processes to optimize energy and natural resource consumption of all your operations in addition to profitability of the business.
Ensuring that businesses meets the needs of and treats fairly the people who work for them and the community in which they operates, requires BPM capabilities for improving company's internal operations along the whole chain and also reducing the waste and using less energy in the process to their final product or services.
Stakeholders are demanding effective governance, including enterprise risk management, transparency, accountability, and optimized performance. At the same time, globally integrated markets are imposing increasing volumes of regulations. Successful companies can address these challenges with the help of BPM across the enterprise with risk-balanced and risk-based controls embedded in business processes ranging from financial to human resources, environmental to trade management.
In todayu2019s business world, innovation and strategic business transformation require new methods and software products to differentiate organizations from their competition. Therefore, the next generation of business best practices requires such an integrated, holistic perspective on business process management.
    Thanks,
    Navneet Agarwal

    Hi,
we have the same requirment and run into the same problem.
We stuck at the point where the response message from the
RFC has to send back to MQ.
It must link the conversation ID to the Response message.
There we need the possibility to set the ConversationID
into the response message. The ConversationID is taken
    from the Request Message.
The problem is how to set the field ConversationID or
RefToMsgID in the Mapping or BPM. Could it be done via
    Java or ABAP-Maping?
Is the header field only readable and can not be set
in the mapping? Maybe somebody have ane idea or a solution.
    thanks,

  • Win 7 64bit , PremProCS4 patch & Multicam

I am not sure if this is a common issue but I thought I should log it just in case.
I am runing Creative Suite 4 Production Premium on a Wind 7 quad core 64 bit system with 4GB RAM.
While I can four-camera edit in standard definition without problem straight from the installation of the software, the latest patch makes the program hang part way through loading a saved multicam edit.
PP will let me start a project, transfer the synch'd sequence to the multicam sequence and start to do the camera changes without issue and I can save normally.  However when I close the program and come back to it later, it will fail to open that project (but it will open other single timeline projects without issue) and just hangs part way in.
I have now had this happen twice, haveing resinstalled from the disc and then patched to V4.2 something or other twice.(Yes, I can sometimes be a slow learner!)
Each time a resinstall of the software off the DVDs has solved the issue.

    Frank,
I never experienced this, so I'm guessing here. Memory would be the first thing I would have a look at (Win7 may have a larger footprint than XP on memory), second have a look at your services http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm
Then I would check diskspace and pagefile size and location (should be on another drive than OS & programs and be set to at least 8 GB with your current memory), indexing, compression (the latter two should be turned off on all drives). Next thing is your video drivers, are they up-to-date?
If none of this helps, please post a screenshot from Process Explorer and attach DXDIAG.txt. Full instructions can be found in the second included link in this one: Some suggestions

  • EPSON Stylus Color 1160 - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2 setting preferences

Anybody know how to do this?
Does it need to be done on every individual machine? Or in the settings of the printer? And how to do it?
    I can see it over
    http://127.0.0.1:631/printers
If I click on any of the buttons like ‘modify the printer’ it says
Forbidden You don't have permission to access the resource on this server. <</div>
Any suggestions as to how to solve this?
    Thanks

I reposted this message and solved it

  • Virtual Printer

I don't have physical printer, all documents I print as pdf (reduce carbon footprint).  Apple has the print to convert it to pdf.  However, I am doing my Tax Return, it doesn't allow to print as PDF file.  I try to instal other PDF writer but it doesn't work with Mac as well.
Could anymore have any suggestion how could I print my tax return (eTax 2014 ATO).
    Thank you very much

    Hi,  try instead:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/set-default-printer-print-center.html
It works for current OS versions. If other dialogs appear, continue to add the printer.
The printer will be called localhost.  Select it to print from eTax and choose the option to " Print to pdf"
Directions previous were to go to the manufacturers site, not the Apple site for the install, but its ok, link above is a better alternative.
    Apologies….
    Cheers
