Carbon X1 and BIOS version 1.17

I made the mistake of being an early adopter of this BIOS upgrade. But in my defense, the update utility said it was a 'critical' update!
As a result my Carbon X1 will no longer stay hibernated if I have a USB device plugged into the USB port on the right side of my laptop. The red light flashes, the laptop goes into hibernation and about 2 seconds later the red light comes back on. I don't have this issue if I plug my mouse transceiver into the USB port on the left side.
I've already tried disabling the 'always on' USB option in the BIOS settings without success. I've also tried disabling the boot from USB device option. I'd like to keep the mouse transceiver in the port on the right and keep the left port free for my external drive. Lenovo says there is no way to revert back to the previous BIOS after this upgrade. When I spoke with tech support they asked me to send my Carbon in for a new motherboard, but that was before I discovered the ability to move the transceiver to the other port. I'm not sure a newer version of the motherboard will fix this, but I'd rather not be without my laptop for 6 to 8 business days.
Anyone else run into this and have a work around?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

So I just went through all of the devices in 'Device Manager' and found that one of my Network Adapters had the 'Allow this device to wake the computer' turned on under it's 'Power Management' settings?? As I always do, I had disabled these when I first setup this computer. I guess somehow the BIOS upgrade had changed this??
I've been through about 5 hibernation cycles now and it stays asleep like it should!

  • MSI 875P Neo and Bios Version 1.6

I have an MSI 875P LSR Board.  It works fine but the system temperature is always running at 50-60 degrees C.
I am running bios version 1.2 and I was wondering if it is worth while to upgrade to version 1.6 as my system is stable.  I dont feel really comfortable flashing the bios I am running Windows XP with NTFS partition.

Maesus-how much lower do you feel the "real" temperature is? Would perhaps 10C be a fair estimate? I'm still waiting for my friend to dig out his thermal probe so that I can get an accurate reading. I too am still using bios 1.2(rock stable with excellent game play)but am considering a bios upgrade if I purchase faster memory which I'm not sure that version 1.2 would make full use of.

  • GTX 580 Twin Frozr II O/C - confused by bios version number, and how to flash

Hi, my first post here. But I've been reading a bit here. Still, I get confused by this whole vga bios thing, version numbers and how to flash... Ok, so here's my situation:
I have two PC's. Both with one MSI Twin Frozr II O/C GTX 580 card inside. It seems to me that both are working according to specifications, GPU-Z reports:
GPU clock 800 Mhz, Memory 1024 Mhz, Shader 1600 Mhz for the borth of them.
Now, one of them seems not to be totally stable (this is the newest I bought a few days ago). It locks up/crashes in some games. The other seems ok, I've been having that one for a while. Could this be a GPU core voltage problem? GPU-Z reports for the both of them:
    VDDC 0.955 v
I've tried running MSI afterburner, changing core voltage to 1025, and in afterburner settings enable "Force constant voltage". Still, GPU-Z, which I keep running at the same time, still reports only 0.955. I thought this setting in Afterburner would change voltage to 1.025?  This situation is for both the old one and the new one.
    Now to the Bios "problem".
The newest card (the not so stable one) reports through GPU-Z: Bios Version 70.10.20.00.01
The oldest (stable) card: Bios Version 70.10.17.00.01
So... which one has the newest bios? Seems to me it is the newest card.
BUT - when running MSI Live Update 5 (newest version) it says for both the cards that they have the the newest bios version, and there's no need to upgrade??
SO - I go to the MSI webpage: http://no.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-Twin-Frozr-II-OC.html#?div=BIOS  to download the newest bios manually, just in case.. But there it gets more confusing. The Bios version found there is :NV255MS.104(.zip).
And also, on that page I can not find how to use that file. Extracting it just gives me the file NV255MS.104    and no extension.
So, which bios is the newest one? 70.10.20.00.01  (the highest number, in the new card, but not stable in some games), 70.10.17.00.01 (in my old card, but seems stable in the games I've tried), or NV255.104  (which I don't know how to use).
I've flashed my main board bios many times over the years in various set ups, the bios on two different SSD disks and so on.. never had a problem with that, or finding out if I have the correct bios, how to do it and so on.
Maybe I'm stupid, but this MSI Twin Frozr II O/C GTX 580 bios thing confuses me a lot... So, how do I solve this situation?

I am also interested in the answer as I have 2 MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC cards. I can find the latest BIOS file "NV801MS.KG4.zip" and know the version is "KG4". But how do you relate this to the current BIOS version Afterburner or GPU-Z provides? The version they each provide is "70.10.17.00.01" for both cards. The only other way to determine if they are up to date is to install and run MSI Live Update. MSI Live Update responds that they are up to date with no current version or online version information on the Live Update tab. At least the information on the Home tab states the same VGA BIOS version as GPU-Z and Afterburner. I can can only assume that the BIOS is updated by using MSI Live Update.
Also just for the additional information GPU-Z displays my VDDC as 1.039 briefly then 0.995 constantly when switching between cards. I actually have the cards set to 1.050 with Afterburner to be stable when running Crysis 2 DX11 updates.

[Athlon64] Failed Bios update with both Live Update and Dos version = badchecksum shutdown

Sometimes bios recovery is a long shot .
But the award bios v.6 is supposed to be able to do it if the bootblock is still intact.
Best way seems to be to strip it down to minimal configuration , disconnect all drives except floppy , one ram module , perhaps without video card also .

  • MSI Geforce 3 WDM and bios problem plz help!!!

    Hi
I have a MSI Geforce 3 Ti200 Pro-VT and when i install any detenator driver above 23.11 then the capture card wont work! The driver for the capture device says it wont start so i am stuck with 23.11. I have tries later WDM drivers and detenator drivers but they all give the same problem! I have also tried to flash the bios but live update 2 says Your Display Card does not support MSI Live Update 2 function which it is supposed to have. When i go directly to the bios page and try to update it then the update fails. The flash program seems to think that i have a different card or something but my  system information says that i do. This it the information:
    VGA Card Manufacturer MSI
    VGA Card Model Name MS-8850
    VGA Card BIOS Vendor NVIDIA
    VGA Card BIOS Version 3.20.00.18.03
    VGA Card Driver Version 2311
Can someone please help me cause it would be nice to have the latest drivers working for the card.
    Thanks

I downloaded the bios files from http://tw.msi.com.tw/autobios/SVga/Bios/Ms8850/v111/ and then downloaded NVFLASH.EXE and booted in dos and flashed the card i had to force the flash though it had some conflict of data or something but i knew it was the right bios and i had made a backup of the current one plust the card has dual bios so i wasnt too worried and it all worked out fine.
Goodluck with gettin all your cards workin

    Hi!
I need some help to clear up some questions regarding my MB.
MB: K9N Platinum, Cpu-z states my bios version is 080014, but i cant see it in the bios list for my MB, so what version is it?
Im currently running with a Athlon X2 5200+ Windsor, and i have got my hands on an Athlon X2 6400+ Black Edition, as far as i can see my MB is supporting that cpu, but is my current bios up to date for the cpu?
I have downloaded the MSI usb bios flashtool and i have set it up, and it boots in dos, but when i run memtest the program just says in one line memtest and a flashing + nothing more happens (i have left the pc for about 3-4min but no change) i feel that im starting to push my luck, and i dont want to kill this MB since its my work and gaming rig.
    System spec:
    MB: K9N Platinum
    CPU: Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (want to install Athlon 64 x2 6400+ BE ID: ADX6400IAA6CZ)

Memtest do have some bugs. You can do test with Orthos instead:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=103598.msg760534#msg760534
To check is your system is stable or not.
Once done you can ignore Memtest when asking after booting from the USB key
Also leave 1 memory stick only temporary in the 1st DIMM close to CPU socket before BIOS flash.[put remaining sticks back when BIOS flash is done/finished].

  • Z77A-GD65 Buggy bios Version 10.10

    Hello All
I recently got this motherboard and during a bios update through MSI tool M-Flash I faced similar problems as some users reported in other post: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=171694.0
I have made the registration on the forum to share a solution that worked out for me.
I received the board on Bios 10.0, and  I installed a Core i7 2600k and 16Gb DDR3 2133Mhz on it. First I run it without any PCI-Ex VGA.
I installed Win 7 64bits Ultimate on a SSD samsung EVO 840 256GB drive without any other drive pluged to the board.
The result was awsome, loading Windows in 10 seconds.
Then i instaled my HD6950 VGA and pluged in all my HDD (2 x 2TB + 1TB +750 MB + 500 MB) and every thing worked like a charm.
Later I thought, I have a very old Bios version, perhaps there is improvements regarding satbility or performance and there was where I mess up.
I updated the Bios to 10.10 through MSI tool M-Flash, the tool finalized the update (there was a progressing bar on the screen) and reboots the system.
Guess what? The system didn't boot and was only showing the hash blinking on the up left corner of the screen.
I switch the Multibios switch to the second bios position and the system got alive again.
After some trys, I was able to boot from the USB drive from where I have installed the OS, and i notice some strange cenario, the Windows installer was able to "see" all the drives, but if I select any one to go on with the instalation, I got a message like "The Windows can not be installed on this drive because a driver is missing" I'm not sure if these were the exactly words but this was the sense of the message.
This was the way I didi it:
1- you need get a good bios file (you can boot with 2nd bios and save it to a file or you can download a diferente version in my case I got the file for 10.8 version). When you download the bios from MSI webpage you get 3 files (7750vAx.TXT, AFUD238S.EXE and E7751IMS.A80 in case of version 10.8)
2- You need to prepare a bootable USB drive with MS DOS or equivalente, for that I have used "rufus-1.4.12" software that you can download on Rufus webpage.
3- After you create the bootable USB drive with MS DOS, copy all the files you got from MSI webpage on the root directory. You can check on a diferente PC or with the other bios if every thing is ok and if the bootable USB is working properlly.
4- Select the BIOS you want to restore with Multibios switch (the phisical switch on the board). (As far as I understood, older boards allows you to boot with bios 1 and after boot you would be able to switch to bios 2 and flash it, on this borad that won't work you will flash the bios from you have booted).
5- Power on your system, entrer the bios and set options to default, save and power off the system. (this is very importante because you can flash a diferente bios with diferente options and if this options won't exists on the version you are instaling the system can hang up and mayby this could be the end for this bios - I'm guessing but is better not to try)
6- disconnect all your sata drives.
7 - Power on the system and boot from the USB drive with MS DOS
8 - Type the folowing comand "AFUD238S.EXE E7751IMS.A80 /S" and press Enter, the software will do a full flash to the bios. Don't power off the system during this procedure otherwise this bios is dead.
8 - After every thing have finished (you should see the promt on the screen C:>\), reboot your system and you should get a functional bios, justo ensure you test it first only with the OS drive and then plug the others.
Note: This board has a multibios function on the Bios that if it is turned on the system will copy the content of one bios chip to the other, BUT, as far as i understood the system wil do a comparison between both chips and will replace the older version with the new one, that in my case would be a problema because the most recente one is the faulty one.
I hope this can help any one who is facing this or similar problems.
    Best Regards from Portugal.

  • Satellite A300 - What is new in Bios version 2.20

    Hi!
Does anybody know what's now in bios version 2.20?
I just found it on the support site, but I can't find any details about it? I's funny, that there's no information about these upgrades....

    Hi
I didnt find any details on the Toshiba European driver page
    But I visited the Toshiba US driver page and there you could find the details of BIOS versions for A300 for example;
According to the Toshiba US page this is the change history of BIOS version 2.20 - 2010/01/19
    Blocked the eSATA boot function.
    Changed the HDD password algorithm.

  • Which is the latest BIOS version for Satellite L30-113 (PSL 33)?

    Hi everyone,
Could someone please tell me which is the letest BIOS version for my laptop since I have never upgarde it?
Also how do I install it and how do I check what is my bios version now?
    Thank you in advance

First of all the BIOS update is not necessary if your notebook functions correctly.
    But back to your questions;
On the Toshiba European driver page you will find all available drivers and also the newest available BIOS. At this time it seems to be a 3.10-WIN version
How to find out the BIOS version?
This is very easy you have to access the BIOS and then you could see the BIOS version.
To access the BIOS you have to press the F2 button immediately after notebook was started.

  • Satellite L500 - Is BIOS version 1.9 compatible?

    Heyas,
I've noticed that a new BIOS version (v 1.90) for Satellite L500 Notebooks. My model - PSLS3A-01301D does not appear in the list of L500 models on the MyToshiba website, and I am very wary of installing the update incase it turns my laptop into a very expensive paperweight. Could anyone give me an idea if this new BIOS update is safe for my model?
    Thanks in advance,
    Evan

    heya,
Thanks for the reply; I have to admit I'm suprised you found my laptop model on the australian website. When I did a search with both google and of the aussie site myself returned no results; that is to say, google did (even returned this thread) but none on [http://www.mytoshiba.com.au].
As for the need for the bios update; well yes I admit that I probably don't need it at this moment. I can be a little obsessive about having latest drivers and (generally) updates for my machine, it always seems to make it run a little smoother, although that could be my own bias.
It is kinda frustrating not to find be able to find my model anywhere on toshiba's site, especially when you seem to have been able to find it so easily.
    thanks,

  • DVDRAM GT30L doesnt read or burn but is recognized by OS and BIOS

Ok, after a Hitachi HD failure (second Hitachi drive failure within 2 yrs..... BAD HP for using Hitachi!!!!!!!).... I have ensured the Memory is good, Bios is in working order etc.. I have put in a temp sata 60 gig Seagate in for testing the system.. Come to find out.. The DVDRAM GT30L Sata internal DVD drive IS recognized by BIOS but when trying to boot from the DRIVE, the drive is not reading anything.. I have installed windows 7 via bootable thumb drive and same thing in the windows 7 os.. DVD Drive is recognized but the drive doesn't read anything... When you put a disc in, you can hear it act like it is trying to read but fails to recognize any disc.  I need to know a couple of things before proceeding...
Does anyone know of a testing software that checks to see if the Drive itself is bad?  (I'm assuming it is as the drive works and you can hear it when you put in a disc)
OR this might be a motheboard controller issue??  As this Hard Disc is a SATA as well and is not having any issues... That leads me to believe that the controllers on the motherboard on OK.. BUT, i'm not fluent enough to know for sure...
2 possibles.. The DVD Drive is bad by itself OR something is wrong on the motherboard for this drive...
I have not updated drivers (not needed as I can't even boot from a disc on reboot, this tells me that nothing is wrong with the I/O,  I think).
ALSO, the BIOS version for this G62-340US laptop is a F29... the latest on the website is F27.. (what is up with that?!?!?!?!).. Since HP doesn't have a F29 listed on their site for this laptop.. should I roll the F27 in overriding the F29???  Wouldn't think so but just wanting some help here as much as possible...
If anyone knows of any tools that can narrow down my issues further that what I have already assessed.. Please feel free to mention it.. no need spending money on something that DOESN'T need fixing.. .. although the SATA DVD Drive is EXTREMELY easy to replace.. but again, no needing spending 70 bucks replacing a perfectly good drive, again, if that is not the issue.
Thanks in advance to anyone offering help and information..

    Thanks for the replies.
I have a USB stick with arch base installed. It boots any pc I put it in. But if I put it a running windows. windows wants to format the thumb drive.
If a have a windows pc that does not boot. (dead sata/ide) I can boot the pc with the arch usb thumb drive and recover files from the dead windows sata/ide drive. By copying them to the arch USB thumb drive. But I can not transfer them to a working windows OS because windows does not recognize the Arch USB thumb drive file format. (ext4) Or can not read the boot record. Not sure which. It request to format the USB thumb drive.
I was thinking to install arch base to a USB drive that was formated vfat (fat32). But the arch wiki discourages running arch linux on fat file system. although you can install the ISO image to fat, but you can not install any other apps from the repository to the ISO image.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _a_USB_key
I am going to try to install to a fat file system to see what happens. But I do not think it will work. Thanks for the ideas Alber and Trilby. Sorry I did not explain myself. Hope I did here.

  • HP Compaq d530 SFF not recognizing DIMMs. Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit - BIOS version 02.44

    Hello HP community!
I recently received a HP Compaq d530 SFF, from the company, where I had my work experience.
I gladly took their offer and took the PC home, all was going well until I bought myself some new DIMMs, from ebuyer.com.
I new for a fact, the computer needs DDR 333MHz, PC2700 and it had to be in DIMM format, so I went and bought 3x1GB modules. A few days later they arrived and I inserted them into the computer, making sure that two DIMMs were in the blue slots, and the others (I wanted to keep a 256MB module in) in the black slots.
I re-inserted the power cable and tried to boot the PC, it showed me a BIOS message, showing the amount of memory had changed, since the last boot. Once the configuration showed up, it only recognized the 256MB module. I then powered down the computer, to then remove the 256MB module, to see what would happen. I then rebooted the PC and it gave me an error tone (No picture). To which I then (rotatingly) tried each different DIMM, to see if one of them was defect. They all gave me the same error tone. Since then, I have been running Windows Vista Home Premium, with 1GB (4x256MB DIMM).
Does anyone maybe have a suggestion, how to solve this problem?
I have already updated the BIOS version to 02.44 (Latest I could find).
    Thanks in advance!
    Yours sincerely Simon Cahill

  • Where are the older BIOS versions gone?

    Hi
A few weeks back, I've upgraded the BIOS on my Pavilion G6 1001sq to the latest version (F66). I noticed that the laptop is running considearbly hotter since then and I want to revert to an older BIOS version. When I go to the updates page on the HP website and click on "older versions available" I can only see the F66 version on the page I'm directed to ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/previousVersions?softwareitem=ob-115746-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4... ), although a long list with many versions was available till recently. Where are the older versions gone?

Unfortunately, I do not know where they have gone. HP is working on issues with the suport and driver servers at the moment.
Since your notebook does have the UEFI Diagnostics installed, you should be able to rollback to the previous version that was installed. Use the firmware management option to do that.

    Hi All
Have Satellite C660 with keyboard lag issue tried to update Bios but after downloading Bios from Toshiba web site and running the intaller a message says the Bios already installed is a newer version and the install with now cancel.
    Can anyone help?
    Pilot

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I bought Satellite C660 8 months ago and the keyboard started to play up about 2 months after. I tried Fn - F11 and it worked. However, the problem reappeared and was worse. Tried the same trick with Fn - F11 but it made the problem worse.
I've tried BIOS update as most suggested. But it kept giving me error message that it was unable to update. My computer was automatically restarted though. The BIOS version that currently installed is 1.80. I also have Windows 7 reinstalled, but didn't solve the problem either.
    Any help would be great.......
    Thanks
