Card bus failure? on T-30

I lost the NIC port on my older T-30.  Trying a D-Link Card Bus Ethernet card and none of the LEDs light up.  bad card? or bad slot??    Tried a hardware search for the D-Link, no help.      It is a 2367 with Xp Pro.  probably first card ever used.      thanks.

I managed to try a  Dlink wireless card and it lights up.   good slot, bad  first card.   both cards are so old, I will toss them.

    Hi everyone,
    Can use that sound card in above card bus controller? Advanced or Standard mode?
    Toshiba Tech please provide the information...thanks..

    Yes,
    you can use that soundcard in your machine, shouldnt be a problem.
    Just a little question: which machine do you have??? For a good soundcard like this one you should have powerful system..
    Would appreciate some feedback from you.

  • USB Ports & USB Card Bus Adapter

      I have a Satellite A15-S127 that I bought brand new when they were released the end of May, 2003. In general, it has and still does run great. A few years back I went from using WindowsXP Home, which came pre-installed, to WindowsXP Pro. Just after that the 2 factory installed USB ports in the back of the laptop stopped working. I tried to get them back working and couldn't so I bought a 2 Port USB Card Bus Adapter, which has worked great giving me back useable USB ports.  Well, all of a sudden when I insert the Card Bus into the laptop, everything locks up. I can do nothing but remove it and hold down the power button to shut it down and reboot. I even bought a new Card Bus Adapter and it does the same thing. Now I have no useable USB ports.
       Im hoping someone can help me to either get my originally installed USB ports working or to get my PC card slot working again.
    Thanks
        Logan Krewe

    I wanted to add to this...I did plug in a CF card the other day and that was recognized.  I then tried my external hard drive directly again in a front USB port and it worked for a while (an hour or so).  Then it suddenly was not there anymore as if I'd ejected it even though I didn't.  Tried to put it back in and nothing.  This tells me it may be a hardware problem since it "recognized" it for a bit.  It's very frustrating.

  • Black screen on MacPro1,1: PCI bus failure?

    I have a MacPro1,1 (the original 2006 model) running OS X 10.7.5. This machine has functioned reliably for 8 years. But last night the display went black (NEC PA-271W, driven by an Apple ATI Radeon 5770). My trouble-shooting tests so far:
    Restart Mac Pro. Restart in Safe Boot mode. Restart in Single-User mode. Restart from a clone backup. Waited for hardware to cool down and tried again. No love. Screen never lights up.
    Attached display to a MacBook Pro, using same cable and DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Monitor works correctly.
    I can run the Mac Pro via screen sharing from my MBP. So the system and hard disk seem to be OK.
    I accessed the Mac Pro via screen sharing and read its System Report
    About This Mac > More Info > System Report
    What I saw was disturbing:
    Graphics/Displays: No information found.
    PCI Cards: This computer doesn't contain any PCI cards.
    I tried re-seating the ATI Radion 5770, and tried inserting another card that I had on hand (Nvidia GeForce 8800GT) in a different slot. The info in System Report remained the same.
    Does this look like a hardware failure? Power supply gone south? Is there any type of hardware diagnostic software that I can run on a headless Mac? I don't want to spend any significant money on repairing this old beast, since I was planning to replace it this year.

    The Mac Pro lives on.  It was the ATI Radeon 5700 video card that died.  I pulled it out of the PCI slot, and then the Mac was able to see the other video card.  So it looks like the Radeon had an internal failure (short circuit?) which was causing an abnormal current drain from the mother board.  The Mac shut down the PCI bus to protect itself.

  • FireWire 800 and USB bus failure

    I am trying to resolve an ongoing issue with my iMac. External storage devices will not stay mounted. I have had data corruption and several drive failures that I believe are attributable to the sudden loss of connection to the computer. It can not be that all my drives – there have been five – are faulty. My newest drive, an OWC Mercury Elite Pro connected to the FireWire 800 bus, is beginning to exhibit the same behavior, and this drive is less than a month old.
    What possible explanations are there for a FireWire or USB bus to suddenly drop a connected hard drive?
    Thanks in advance.

    Simplest explanation? Your iMac has a hardware failure. Take it in for service. It's probably NOT a software issue but a hardware failure.
    Can we assume you have tried new or different cables?

  • PCI card/bus problem in a PM9600/233

    I recently got a Firewire card and put it into the 6th PCI slot on my PM9600. Initially, everything worked all right. A couple days later on a boot I noticed one of my USB pci cards wasn't working. Then it started working, but the second USB pci card did not. My original ixmicro 8mb video card also is not working. The situation seems to have restabilized in that the three A bus pci slots are working all right and the three B bus pci slots are not. The pci slots are filled as follows, top to bottom order:
    ATI Rage Pro 128 (works)
    USB card (works)
    A-card ATA card (works)
    ixMicro video card (dead)
    USB card (dead)
    Firewire card (dead)
    I've tried reseating the cards; run DiskWarrior; rebooted into 8.6 and 9.1; cleaned the dust out; checked (but not replaced) the battery. No effect.
    Whenever a card isn't working,ASP shows nothing connected on that card's pci bus slots.
    Any ideas or suggestions, please?

    Thanks, guys. Good ideas. I got it sort of working again, but I am not certain what I did. I did remove the ixmicro video card from Slot 4 and moved the Slot 5 USB card into Slot 4, leaving Slot 5 vacant. I reseated the firewire Slot 6 card. I had to push the USB card so hard to get it to seat, I now wonder if I fully pushed it in before. Query: If that USB card was NOT fully seated before, would that prevent the WHOLE lower bus from operating?
    The chip set on both my no-name USB cards is Vendow 1095, whoever that is. I forgot to look at the card when I was reseating it.
    I have the 9600 in a temporary location at the moment pending a reorganization of its room; however, I ordinarily have two monitors running on it, so I'll need to put the second video card back in. However, for the moment it may remain out.
    It looks as if the problems might have been 1) I didn't seat the one card properly and it killed the lower pci set; or 2) the video, usb, and firewire cards exceeded the power requirements of the lower bus. What do you think?
    Isn't the power supply to the two pci buses, top 3 and bottom 3, a separate thing?

    If you want to see the earlier bits of my dmesg output, here is a complete log: http://sprunge.us/gWOJ. It's from a different boot, but the error messages at the end are the same.
    Anyway, when this first happened, I googled around after the errors in hope of finding someone else with the same problem (not much luck there), and also looked up my wireless card in the wiki. I ended up trying out the rt3090-dkms driver from the AUR as suggested here (and yes, I followed all the directions). The rt3090 driver actually allowed me to set the card up manually, and I could send and receive pings, but if I tried to use the connection for something more interesting like loading a webpage, it caused the whole system to crash.
    After a while of messing around with this stuff, I found out that occasionally the card works perfectly fine after a reboot (using the standard rt2800 drivers -- I uninstalled the rt3090 one). I can't find anything that's particularly different from one reboot to the next, but the card seems to work after about 35% of reboots. The irregularity of it all has me wondering if it's a hardware problem. Is there an easy way to know if it's a hardware problem or not? I'm pretty much stuck, so any insights on this issue are greatly appreciated

    Also possibly relevant: at the same time my wireless card starting giving me issues, my SD card reader module stopped loading. It seems the driver was renamed from rt5139 to rtsx_usb_sdmmc in Linux 3.16. I now have to load it manually on boot. I doubt the problem is directly related, but maybe it is indicative of a general module issue?

  • USB bus failure at random on Mac Pro 3,1

    Early 2008 2x2.8 Ghz Quad
    Mac Pro 3,1
    Since I upgraded to (the latest version of) Mavericks (from 6.8) I'm getting random indefinite USB bus hangs. Frequency: Every 1 to 3 days. Does not seem related to any kind of process. Most of the time it's happening while the computer is idling, but not necessarily. Apparently that's just because I'm more off than on on average.
    What's going on? All of a sudden, all USB input hardware becomes unresponsive, but not without power. Can't toggle caps lock. Mouse freezes (but light is still on), graphic tablet won't work. Even when connecting without a hub. However, the system is not frozen and reacts with a dialog box when touching the reset button. But a hard reset is the only option at this point.
    I read about USB problems, but not like this!
    Please advise.

    It seems that a wired mighty mouse was at fault. Its track ball / scroll wheel was defect after two months (as it happened with so many mighty mice before) and after I replaced it with a different brand the USB freeze never happened again.

  • Complete IDE bus failure?

    Okay, all of my problems are pointing to a faulty IDE bus.
    One goal: To install Panther/Tiger through XPostFacto.
    But... the problems occur far before I ever get to mounting a disk.
    After doing a basic install of Mac OS 9, I could no longer see my hard drive. I reset the PRAM.
    Now I can see the hard drive and the DVD drive.
    I install XPostFacto and boot from the Mac OS X disc.
    The installation stops at "Configuring Installation." The disc spins down and then there is no light on my drive.
    I restart the Mac.
    I see no DVD. When I boot the machine, the DVD drive will spin, and then stop, and no further response comes from it.
    I restart and reset the PRAM again.
    Same problem. No response from the DVD drive.
    CUDA button. NVRAM reset. PRAM reset. Start from the C key. Nothing works. At all. The lithium battery is brand new. The RAM is fine.
    I think this beige has just about had it. It's ten years old. It was a reliable computer until now. Just thought I'd give it one last chance at life.
    Curiously, it now boots into OS 9 without a hitch (from the hard drive). It does not recognize any other drive.
    I don't know about you, but I'm not about to use OS 9 anytime soon.

    Found a workaround to the problem.
    1. I removed the DVD drive from the secondary IDE bus and moved it to the primary IDE bus as a slave drive. A lot of cables had to be reorganized because the DVD drive must remain in the top half of the case. The primary hard drive was also moved, but remained the master drive on the primary IDE bus.
    2. I held the CUDA button for 30 seconds.
    3. Booted in Mac OS 9 and put in my Mac OS X Tiger DVD. The drive was finally recognized. I opened XPostFacto (latest version) and went through the install process.
    4. The system restarted, but in verbose mode only. (I didn't get the nice Mac OS X logo, just a series of text, but this is fine, since I can see what is going on during boot.) I went through the Mac OS X Tiger installation procedure. This took about an hour and a half to complete.
    5. System restarted. I tried to use Software Update to install updates, but it froze during the process. I force rebooted and then manually downloaded the updates. Those installed fine.
    6. Restart. The computer didn't like the new updates at first and halted during boot. I force restarted. The Mac boots fine now... it just takes a LONG time. About 3-4 minutes.
    7. Mac OS X Tiger is now running on my Beige G3 Gossamer. I only have 384MB of RAM, so there is a long wait for some things. Dashboard works fine, but I don't get those nice liquid effects. Spotlight takes 5 HOURS to index! After that, it works fine, just a tad slow.
    8. I put in a second hard drive in, a single hard drive on the secondary IDE bus. There seems to be no problems for now, but I will have to keep an eye on it. The Mac is really fussy after all of this hardware and software surgery.
    WHEW!

  • How to eject sata drives on express card bus

    I recently added a Siig sata express card and two serial drives to my MacBook Pro. When mounted in the Finder there is no grey "eject arrow" to the right of the icon in the side bar like there is for usb or firewire mounted drives. How can I get one? Right now the only way I know to properly unmount the drive is using the program MainMenu or Disk Utility. Thanks for the help in advance.

    They are separate drives. My express card has two eSATA ports. I installed the drives without any RAID arrays. I do get the card icon in my menu bar when it is on. The only function it allows though, is to power off the card. If I power off the card without ejecting the drives I get the warning message that I didn't properly unmount the drives before disconnecting. I see no reason why I would need to RAID these drives to get the OS to recognize them as external.

  • KDE D-Bus Failure?

    Can somebody help me with a user-specific (or so I assume) issue where I can't run KDE apps, but if I run them as root, I can. I'm running OpenBox. Can somebody help using the error below?

  • Sync issues after installing Dynex USB 2.0 Card Bus Adapter

    I can't seem to get my iPod to sync via itunes. The only way I can seem to get it done is by pulling the cable and then putting it back in. It syncs just fine when connected to my USB 1 port. It's slow, but it's functional.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

    I know you said you reset the cpu but i just want to clarify.
    Have you reset the PMU? It's the little pencil eraser size button on the motherboard, sometimes red or black.
    Shut down your computer, unplug the power cord and press the PMU button once and only once.
    Then restart and see if that solves it.

  • FIOS Cable Card Activation Failures

    VZ Mods/ Admins,
    i have ordered and received a cableCARD for my account and tried several time to activate in online using the self-activation site and it fails, tells me to call in. Called the number and the automated process over the phone fails as well.
    After that the call automatically transfers me into a que for a live rep, so....the rep had no ideal what a cablecard was or how to activate was on hold for 30mins, I had to hang up.
    Does any moderator or admin on this forum know how to get around all this? This should be a painless process. Is there a direct number I can call that a rep will know exactly what to do? I'm in Pittsburgh, PA.
    Hope to resolve the activation by this evening. Thanks VZ.

    I'm sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Help on my Ultra10 Video card

    Hello, I am using solaris 9 on my Ultra 10, I just found there is another M64 video card already installed at slot PCI 1, I thought this card should be much better then the default card, so I tried to switch, but seems I can't get it work.
    I googled and tried the following approach, but apparently it did not work, the monitor just keep dark when I plug the cable to the new card. please hep
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You need to attach a monitor that will give you video. Then power on the system and stop at the ok prompt.
    run below command and look for the path to your video card
    show-devs
    ex.. /pci@1f,0/pci@1/SUNW,m64B@1
    then you need to run
    nvalias screen1 /pci@1f,0/pci@1/SUNW,m64B@1
    In the above nvalias command screen1 is just an example and you can name it whatever you want as long as it does not conflict with anything shown by the devalias command whcih is run from ok prompt also. Also you video card will not show up as m64@1 if it is not that type of video card. The 1 at the end is what slot you have it in so this also may be different.
    then run
    setenv output-device screen1
    then run
    reset
    as the system resets move the monitor cable to the new card
    here is the prtdiag output result of my box
    ===========================
    The information line in your PRTDIAG that says ...
    " 0 PCI-1 33 2 SUNW,m64B ATY,GT-C "
    is noting the integrated onboard video chipset.
    All the PCI-1 items of Ultra-5 and Ultra-10 systems are the integrated functions.
    The PCI-2 item, your add-on graphics card, is in an expansion slot.
    I think that if you found its barcode paper sticker, you'll see a part number
    that begins with 370-3753, for the PGX32 model card that is OEM'd from Techsource.
    Even though the card was physically in the system,
    there is a vague possibility that the necessary software packages
    were never installed when the OS was installed.
    If no "drivers", then no functionality.
    PRTDIAG would show that it's physically present, but that's all
    You'll need your Solaris 9 CD's. In particular, disk #1 of 2.
    use pkgadd to install all the TSI... packages.
    You could check whether they are present with a ... pkgchk TSI*.
    Also glance at this previous forum thread from May 2006:
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=246&threadID=96909
    It includes a link to the installation documentation of the graphics card.
