Cardbus PCMCIA adaptor on Solaris 2.5.1

I've tried to install a PCMCIA adaptor, CardBus type and from SCM Microsystem, on a E-250 running Solaris 2.5.1 but failed. The OS can just recognize there is a cardbus device and does not attach the correct PCMCIA driver 'spcic'. Can anyone give some advise on how to setup the adaptor? Thanks.

It is only supported (meaning, Oracle Support and us on Technet will only answer questions) if you have installed it on Solaris 2.6, as well as the Solaris patches mentioned in the Installation Guide.
We have had problems with FTP using previous versions of Solaris, and there may be other problems we don't know about.

  • Anyone got an ethernet cardbus/pcmcia working with 10.5?

My ethernet port packed up but I got a DLink DFE-690TXD cardbus/pcmcia card working OK under Tiger. But after upgrading to Leopard it's now not working as noted on http://forum.insanelymac.com and on the post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8388326&#8388326). However these sources report that some gigabit ethernet cards (RTL8169 chipset?) work under Leopard without the need for a driver.
If anyone has got one of these working then it would be very useful to hear which card you have.
    Thanks

The lexmark P190 series driver is built-in to Leopard:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306684
The Lexmark SW you installed is really, realy old. Print Center was last seen in 10.2!! It was replaced in 10.3 with Printer Setup Utility. As you noted PSU was moved into System Preferences in 10.5. So I would not really trust Lexmark SW that is that old. Lexmark doesn;t always get things updated that quickly...but is has been a while since 10.2.
You should be able to remove the Lexmark SW (remove/Library/Printers/Lexmark). Then you can re-install the Lexmark drivers that came with Leopard from the DVD. Try those....They are Way newer what you tried.

  • Support for AVM ISDN PCMCIA Card in Solaris 10 ?

    Hi all,
I would like to install Solaris 10 on my Toshiba Tecra S1 notebook. Today I use an ISDN-Card (AVM FritzCard, PCMCIA) for dial-up connections under Windows XP. Are there any drivers for ISDN and/or PCMCIA-Cards in Solaris10? Does anyone have any experiences with this issue?
    Every hint would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Kindly Regard,
    Holger

    Hello.
There only very poor support for ISDN cards in Solaris. As far as I know only the on-board ISDN card of one of the SparcStation computers is supported (this card is available as S-Bus card for other SparcStation computers).
I think there is no support for any ISDN card that can be attached to an x86 computer.
I wrote a driver for USB based ISDN modems that are based on the Winbond 6694 chip myself due to this lack of ISDN support. I tested it under Solaris 9/Sparc.

  • What kind of "PCI to PCMCIA" adaptor do I need?

I have been logging data from analytical balances to a laptop running LabVIEW through a "4 port PCMCIA RS-232 Interface board". I would like to know if I can still use this card in a normal desktop PC by a "16-bit PCMCIA-PCI adaptor". Thanks.

There are "PCI to PCMCIA" PCI cards, but I personally would just get a 4 port PCI RS-232 card. Your application won't know the difference and you won't have to worry about incompatibilities between the PCI card and the PCMCIA card.
If you do decide to go with the adapter, just google PCMCIA to PCI adapter and you'll get plenty of results.

  • PCMCIA adaptor via USB or Firewire?

    Hi,
I really want to get connected using a PCMCIA external modem here in Melbourne (through iBurst providing wireless coverage over many klms!), but ofcourse the G4 Powerbook 12" doesn't have a PCMCIA slot. Is it possible to get an adaptor via USB or firewire? Do you think it would work okay with such new technology dedicated to the PCMCIA slot? (I have had trouble contacting the company iBurst personally to ask!)
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have found a couple of things as i have been looking too...
One will do it but it seems as though it's availabel for OEM only (maybe we could get enough folk together and get some!?)
Other seems to offer all the connections but the blurb about it says otherwise.
http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/usb/u111.php - will work by the sounds...
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=109293 - odd, seems to be exactly what is required but the text says otherwise... i've emailed them.

  • Does this cardbus pcmcia card work with my powerbook?

Hi, The shop near my house only has this pcmcia cardbus USB 2 card.
    http://www.conceptronic.net/site/desktopdefault.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=200&Cat=30 &grp=3010&ar=0&Prod_ID=755&Prod=CSP480C2&subid=554#
My pbook only has USB 1, and I want USB 2 capability. Would the above work for the powerbook?

I don't see anything in its FAQ or Specs indicating it will or won't. That means it might, then again might not.
This card on the other hand has a known range of Mac OSes it supports:

  • Satellite Pro 4360 - Booting from SSD via Cardbus (PCMCIA) possible?

    Hi all,
I have an old SP 4360.
Does anyone know if a BIOS upgrade to 2.70 will allow me booting off a SSD inserted into the Cardbus pc card slot?
Right know the Bios only recognizes DVD, HDD and FLOPPY as boot devices.
    Second issue:
I have confllicting info about max. RAM size. Some sources say 320mb max while the (online) manual states 576mb max. Someone know if 576mb is really supported?

    Hi
    Please check this threads:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=82016
Please note that memory upgrade depends on the notebooks chipset.
You can check the chipset of the Sat Pro 4360 notebook and could search for details on the Intel page (I assume its Intel chipset).
    Regarding booting from SSD;
I doubt a BIOS update would allows booting from external SSD usually such old notebook were able to boot from CD, HDD or FDD only

  • Native Aiport cardbus/PCMCIA card for 802.11n

My wife has a Powerbook. For airport we are using a Microsoft (gasp!) MN-720 cardbus card. This has the same Broadcom chipset in it as an Airport Extreme card and is recognized by the Apple Airport drivers as a native airport extreme card. It works great and no third party drivers were needed. I'm interested if anyone has found a cardbus card that uses the same chipset as Apple does for their 802.11n implementation. The object being of course to have the Apple drivers see it as a native extreme N card. I'm aware of the Quickertek nQuicky cardbus card, but that requires their drivers. I'm looking for something that the Apple drivers will recognize as their own. Thanks ... Perry

Hardware differences. Core duos don't have the ability to be upgraded to 802.11n via the software update.

  • Has anyone gotten the FBUS PCMCIA card to work on a PCI to PCMCIA adapter board?

I have lots of success with the PCMCIA card in laptop PCMCIA slots, but no luck with the PCMCIA card in a desktop PC with a Quatech PCD-B/PCI-E PCI adapter for PCMCIA boards.  I am thinking that my problem resides with the adapter board but I would like to know if anyone has had success with the FBUS series 2 PCMCIA card with a PCI to PCMCIA adapter.  I got a WinXP SP2 IBM ThinkCentre desktop.  Thanks

We have ever used some PCMCIA to PCI adaptors, they are working properly with NI PCMCIA-FBUS card as well as NI-FBUS software.
I'd like to recommend the single CardBus PCMCIA slot adaptor from Elan Digital System:
    http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/adapter/pci.php
We have used the adaptor in a Dell Dimension desktop, running XP SP2, and NI-FBUS Configurator 3.1.1 runs well.
Another adaptor is a long card, which is Gigabyte GA-MPCI, it works well with some old desktops, but the length of the card is about twice of the card of Elan Digital System; it might not fit your requirement.
    Hope it helps.

  • 3.3V CardBus Card does not fit into T500?

    I got a new T500 2055WVJ last week with Win 7 64bit.
I have only one problem. The cardbus slot (it must be one, because the device manager says RICOH compatible CardBus controller) does not like my Adaptec SCSI CardBus card (Type II). Other PCMCIA cards (5V, non Cardbus) in the same slot fit in perfectly, but the 3.3V SCSI card goes in but stops about 5 mm before they is completely in. The same card works in all other laptops including my old T60, where is slides in and is recognized perfectly. Also CompactFlash cards inside an PCMCIA adaptor fit in perfectly on my new T500 and appear as ATA devices.
Looking into the slot with a lamp shows that on the left side, the notch for differentiating between 5V and 3.3V cards only allows 5V cards. But the CardBus spec says, that Cardbus cards must be 3.3V. You can see a picture of the difference between cardbus and pcmcia pccards here: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=DateiCCard_CardBus.jpg&filetimestamp=20061112220451 (you see the different notch on the right side).
So whats wrong here? Does the new Thinkpad really does not like 3.3V CardBus cards, although the controller is CardBus?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Congrats on getting it to work!
Thinking back, I remember how reluctant I was to force a card into my new T500. I do think there is something slightly off about the slot, because the same card had been working fine in my old T42. (Or maybe the T42 was similarly stiff when it was new way back when?)
    Anyway, congrats again!

  • Macbook pro & vodafone 3G PCMCIA card-how can I use this?

    Hi
I have recently bought a macbook pro and love it but I need a way of using my company vodafone 3G PCMCIA card on the move. Do you know of a compatible USB card holder I can slide the vodafone 3G card into or a 3G mobile solution that fits the funny express card slot (that is available in the UK for me to use). How are all of you making out who used a vodafone 3G card with a G4 15" powerbook like I did now you own a macbook pro?
Happy to buy an adapter or even look into a new 3G internet provider but it must be available in the UK and work with my macbook pro?
    All ideas appreciated.

  • Solaris 8 Thinkpad T20

Has anyone been able to install solaris 8 on an IBM Thinkpad T20.
The cdrom doesn't seem to be recognized, since solaris goes into a
prom_panic, unable to read sector 0.
The media is good, since i've been able to install on both my desktop
    and another laptop.
Does anyone know of a way to copy the cdrom media to disk and install
    that way?
This is such a sweet machine, that i'd love to be able to run solaris
    on it.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Paul.

Look at www.xig.com for the FREE PCMCIA driver for Solaris 8 they have posted there. Sun EOL'd (End-Of-Lifed) laptop support with 2.6 being the last release of Solaris to support laptops. XI Graphics writes XServers for Solaris on Intel, including for laptops, so they have generously provided this driver as freeware in support of that.
    Hope it helps!

  • Aironet - PI21AG PCI Adaptor - No Computer Auth before user login

    Hi
I am running PEAP-MSCHAPv2 , all Clients are Windows Xp SP2 on an AD domain and all clients have wireless configuration assigned via Group Policy.
All machines except for 10 machines running the PI21AG PCI WLAN adaptors are able to authenticate using their computer account to the WLAN , allow login scripts , policy assignment etc to function prior to the use logging into windows. If you log in with a cached domain account , the machine will associate to the WLAN using the user account after login however scripts do not run and users who have not logged in before are unable as the PC has no network connection at the time of user login.
Affected machines have been rebuilt , settings applied manually, different driver versions have been applied, "Always wait for network" has been enabled in Group policy and registry keys have been mdified to extend timeout before policy assingment. Nothing so far has worked.
I am running the latest driver, all clients are using the XP Wireless supplicant and have common configuration. All machine including notebooks using the CB21AG PCMCIA adaptors can successfully authenticate using machine authwntication prior to user login.
I have noticed from looking at my WLC's that during boot and prior to user login that the affected machines probe for association , howver they never enter an authenticated state.
No authentication attempts passed or failed are seen in the RADIUS logs.
Any help or suggestions would be greatfully apprciated.
    May Thanks
    Leon

    Thanks for the reply.
As stated I had PEAP conifgired correctly and many clients achieved the functionality that I was after.
The issue was specific to the Cisco PCI WLAN Adaptors , and after many hours on the phone to the TAC it looks like a change in driver version and a re-image of the customers SOE resolved the issue in the end.

  • Probs connecting through PCMCIA USB 2.0 card

    Hi,
Looking to see if others are having this problem, and hopefully someone who's resolved it:
I have no problems connecting iTunes to my iPod (60G) using the built-in USB 1.1 port on my laptop, other than it's a terribly slow connection. I bought a USB 2.0 CardBus (PCMCIA) PC Card Adapter from CompUSA (I believe this uses a NEC USB chipset), and can't get the iPod to connect through that port. I can successfully use other devices using that card - USB mouse, and USB memory keys - no problems at all.
I'm running Windows XP Home SP2 on a Dell Inspiron - I mention this, as I've noticed a few other posts around the internet various problems with PCMCIA cards on Dell laptops, and perhaps it's relevant.
The first few times I tried this, I was getting a BSOD with a "BADPOOLHEADER" error. Tried rebooting several times, same thing. After running the 5R's (all of them, which took quite a while on the USB 1.1 port), I no longer get the BSOD. However, when I connect the iPod to one of the USB 2.0 ports in the card, I'll get:
a "Do not disconnect" message on the iPod, and a "Removable Disk (F:)" icon shows up in a My Computer window, but iTunes can't make a connection to the iPod. Sometimes the Do Not disconnect message goes away, and the iPod returns to it's normal menu, and sometimes it just keeps the message there (even when I disconnect the USB cable - which then forces me to reset the iPod).
