Career Advise after 6 Years of ABAP Exp?

Hi All,
Could you please suggest me after ABAP , what is next step to enhance the SAP skills by considering all the SAP technologies?
Techno-Functional Consultant?
80 % Functional?
Any other Technical Platform? Webdynpro?PI? BI? HANA?
I am too confused to step up next level in SAP. Appreciate all your comments and suggestions.

Depends on what word "traditional" means to you. One can`t spend his life writing reports and queries for years:))
It would also be beneficial if you help us understand your job. You already got one of the important questions above: after 6 years you must have experienced different flavors of ABAP. BW, workflow, WDA, BSP... So you might be already familiar with some of the topics or feel for some. It also depends on the support from your superior and overall support of education or career course change in your company. It also depends if new projects will be started in bear future where you can learn new things from colleagues, start from scratch (write a simple WDA report is not so different and is available for the beginner as well, I tried...).
Another important thing is your position in the team. Are you a leader? A senior guy? A respected member of the team? That can improve your chances to move somehwhere else if you have the powers to make decisions. If that is not your case, you should apply for such position in the field you know before moving somewhere else. This way you should be able to advance your career with less effort and risk involved than in a brand new area.
I have gone through your web page and it's helpful to understand the evolution of career in SAP.
Which web page do you mean? If you didn`t see that yet, take a look at my blogs here on SDN, some are career related. And of course ABAP related.

I am an ABAPer with one and half year of experience.
I wanted to know if its really worth to switch to netweaver after having around one and half years of ABAP experience as in india promotions are faster and one remains technical person for around 7 years only as in case i take some netweaver component at this stage i will have to start from zero .Further marketwise is there too vast difference between an ABAPer and Netwaver technical consultant as it will again take one and half year to learn new Netweaver component and by the time i will be having 3 years of ABAP experience in case i decide to remain inABAP.
In other words which one is better option between one and half years of Netweaver experience or 3 years of ABAP experience marketwise and careerwise.I will be really thankful if somebody can give a bit descriptive explanation in this regard.

Hi Sandeep,
It would be better to choose what you like the most ie feel comfortable to work. If you really want to swith to Netweaver then go for visual composer it is very easy to learn and there are lot of opportunites in US with a very high package.
It is would be best if you concentrate to become a techno functional rather than going for the Netweaver. So that you will explore more in ABAP as well as in the functional side.
Sap runs on Business process,technology may come and go but the Business still remains like SD, MM, FI etc....

Hello Sandeep,
The market is never static , it keeps on changing, 'Change is the only constant' . Currently Netweaver platform is the platform of choice for SAP Customers and many are involved in upgrading their systems to the latest SAP Offerings.
You should invest in Netweaver , there are several learning courses you can take up or maybe buy books and rely on self learning.
What career you want to choose is your personal issue, however SAP will definitely phase out ABAP in the near future (maybe a decade), so its worth investing money and time now into a product which SAP has decided to go forward with.
On the soft skill side, you can always learn project management and people management, there are several courses out in the market for the same, this will slowly progress your career and take you away to a point where underlying technology does not matter.

After working in ABAP for one year... what will be the expected experience from a two years experience ABAPer?
I have three years of experience in .NET and one year experience in ABAP.
I have finished my training a year ago in ABAP.

Hello William,
This is a rather difficult question, due to it's highly subjective nature. What an employer wants is something that cannot really be predicted.
some of them might want very strong skills in SAP Script and SMARTFORMS, while they really may not care if you have not worked on BDC. Some may want very good knowledge about the BADI and User-Exits concepts, while they don't mind if you are not familiar with LSMW, for instance.
If you're looking for a job, then please read the job requirements carefully. That is the best source for the kind of information you're seeking.

It looks like you might need a newer version of our DAQ Drivers. Is the other computer that is running correctly still using DAQ 6.5.1?

iChat will Video chat to another iChat in a Jabber Buddy List (Google run a Jabber server for GoogleTalk)
However it will not Video to the Web Page login to iGoogle or the Web Mail Page login. (where people can Google Chat as it were in a Web Browser).
Nor does it video to the Google Talk Stand alone app for PCs or any other Jabber apps on any platform.
iChat uses a connection Process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is also used by other VoIP devices.
Jabber/XMPP invited the Jingle Protocol for Jabber Applications.
Google have included this in their Standalone app and the Plug-in for Web Browsers on both PCs and Mac (you can get this as a Standalone Plug-in or as part of Chrome)
More on this here This article has been changed several time in the recent months. It now claims a greater involvement by Google in writing the Jingle Library (Although now Google's version does not work with the others)
This tends to mean that using the web Login to Google to Chat also cannot video chat to other Jabber apps that are using Jingle.
If your Buddy is using iChat then check the Video Menu has two items to Enable Camera/Video chat and Microphone/Audio chats are ticked.
In the View Menu the Show Status Items should be ticked (Selecting them toggles the tick and the function On or Off)
It could be Internet speed but at this stage I would doubt this at this stage.

Are the videos being stored in iMovie or another application? Have you exported/shared the video? If the video is in iMovie what version of iMovie are you using? There is a separate application called Contacts in the Applications folder. You will also find Calendar there. They are also in the Dock.

Benefit costs changes year after year impact

Dear SAP gurus,
I am involved in benefits implementation now and as part of the implementation, I have the following query and request your expert guidance to help me solve the issue.
The benefit costs are changed year after year. If an employee enrolls into a benefit during the previous year, the costs for that year are featuring in the BN infotype. When the costs are changed for the subsequent year, the EE continues with the same benefit options hence there is no changes done to his benefit inofytpe. The end date is end of period.
Now for this current year, how will the new costs be displayed in the infotype. Is there any process that should be followed in these cases.

Benefit costs are dynamically calculated and not store in the infotype record. Please note for Pension plans in Ifotype 169 you must update the records if the percentage or the amount changes, as these are stored in the infotype record.
You don't have to update the record in 167 and 168. However, there are some implications in payroll. Please check how these infotypes are processed in payroll if payroll is implemented as well. Consult with the payroll group with regards to how these premiums are to be reflected in payroll in the period where the premium chnage is effective. You will have the complete picture of what may be required to be done in benefits in terms of what the effective date of the configuration change will be and or if you may require to update the records in infotypes 167 or 168

Can I save a Toshiba recovery after years of use?

I saved a recovery when the computer was new, but that saved copy is not available now. Can I save a recovery again, even after years of use? I am having computer problems, so i plan to do a system restore and hope that all returns OK to an earlier good version. Before I start that system restore, however, I would like to have a recovery point saved as a backup in case the system restore does not work properly. I will start that system restore in a few hours, so any quick replies will be much appreciated. Thanks!

That's fine, but you still need the recovery discs for possible use when, for instance, you need to restore to a new hard disk.
The answer is Yes you can. For instructions, see the section Creating recovery media, which begins on p. 65 of the User's Guide.
