Hi Rinky,
If u want to move to  java n J2ee side then you have 2 options.U can switch to either EP or MI.In EP you will be working with portal n will use JSP's n EJB's where ur core java knowledge will be hellpful. If u want to use ur ABAP knowledge as well as Java den u can go for MI where you will work on Java code as well as ur ABAP skills will come to use.
However let me be clear that MI is an emerging and new technology where as you will have more prj options in EP.

  • Career Guidance

Hi! Pl give me career guidance as a Oracle Professional. I have following details:
    1. OCP (developer track) in 2002.
    2. MCA (persuing)
    3. Maintaining/Developing Oracle based ERP (Oracle9i,Forms/Reports 6i).
    4. Total Exp in Forms/Repots is 08 years.
I m confused to join the latest Oracle Products.
Now a days, Oralce has many latest products. So pl guide/advice me best Oracle Product to
    suit my experience.
    Oracle E-Business Suite ? Oracle Financials ? Oracle Apps ? Oracle 11g Form/Report ? Oralce 11g Java Developer ? Oracle 11g Java with ADF ? ....etc.
    Thanks & Regards.
    Sukhvinder Singh

    Hi,
It's depends with your final goal.
    01. If you want to be a good programmer then you might need to think about moving in to Java with Oracle (Ex: ADF Faces). Here its good to move from Oracle Forms and Reports because most of the companies start migrating their Forms/Reports applications into different technologies. Mainly to Java. Even Oracle Corporation itself provide more guidance for this.
    02. Oracle E-Business Suite is one of the best ERP application. But again this application has many modules. So if you wnat to be a application specialist then you have to deside some area (Ex: HR, GL) and then expert on this. Because application specialist need to have in-depth knowledge in some area.
    03. Oracle E-Business Suite has another area for those who build new reports, integrate with other applications. For this area you don't need in-depth knowledge. (But you need to have some knowledge in those modules). But here you need to have very good PL/SQL and Report Experience. Because you have experience in Reports and PL/SQL , you need to get some knowledge in E-Business Suite and other integration techniques. (This area is always depends with the current trend. So you need to do more research on it and find whether your living area has any demand for e-Business Suite)
    04. Oracle Warehouse Builder is another good area. Because these days almost all the companies start using historical details and most of the companies understand the important to have a data warehouse application. So its a good thing to get to know warehouse builder and related ETL technologies as well.
I just gave MY OWN IDEA with my experience. Someone else can have other ideas (sometimes against the things I mentioned here.). So all comments are welcome!!
    Thanks,

Let me brief you, I m student of Victoria University and pursuing Master of Business in ERP at Singapore. In this course they are covering 7 modules of SAP which would be overall view of SAP system.
I found that each module demands in depth research wherein the university is going to provide general views on each module.
I would like to have your advice on SAP career journey. I do understood that i need to gain mastery in any one module to start employment with any organization. As such you seniors have vast experience in SAP, would you pl. advise me which module should pick up to gain in-depth knowledge looking towards to future demand. I m likely to finish Master of Business in ERP by Jan 2009.

    Dear Devang Nandha,
    A very relevant question.
I feel that you should gain good knowledge in one of the modules. Please do not select the module based on the popularity. Select the module based on your work expereince and your interest. Trust me there is enough in any module to learn and to contribute.
Devang, you are in a very good position as you have the choice of selecting the module. Make the most of this opportunity. For any specific query, please let me know.
Welcome to SAP world and best of luck for your future endeavors.

    Hi Rinky  ,
First of all , I would appreciate u'r diligent decision for opting to either XI or EP b'coz in career prospective (salary wise both EP & XI r best payed in industry) & oppurtinity wise ( There r good job oppurtinities)
Both XI & EP r Netweaver technologies but in XI people r more but in EP we find few.
    I suggest u 2 start u'r career in EP b'coz EP requires good J2EE knowledge & since u r trained in that.

  • EC-CS Reports via SAP NetWeaver Technology

    Hi Guys,
I would like to know if its possible report consolidated financials (EC-CS tables) via SAP NetWeaver technology. Can I use web services to fetch data from EC-CS tables (FIMC table, for example).
Please, let me know tips to start that work.
    thanks in advance,
    Luciano

    Hello Ariel,
EC-CS. Does consolidation of financial data based on group, company code, business area, profit center etc.
SEM BCS Does consolidation of financial data based on consolidation units which can represent, for example, companies, plants, business areas, profit centers, and cost centers.
EC-CS part of ECC 6.0 and SEM BCS 6.0 does the same thing.
    EC-CS part of ECC 6.0
    Pros:
Consolidated data is on the same system ECC 6.0 ( OLTP)
The reporting part is carried out with report writer.
    Drill down and basic reporting.
    Cons
Reporting on large amount of data does take a toll on the system
    Rolling 12- 24 month report
    Comparing actual/prior/budget
    Reporting flexibility is limited
    SEM BCS 6.0
    Pros
The data is extracted into the underlying BW/BI system which operates exclusively for consolidation.
Sky is the limit in terms of customization and delivery of reports with Bex functionalities like Bex Analyzer, Web Application Designer, Report Designer.Reports can also be directly printed in Excel, Pdf format.
Reporting needs wont affect the performance of ECC 6.0.
    Cons
    SEM Implementation cost
Hope this gives a rough Idea. Let me know if you have any further concerns or comments.
    Thanks
    Raj

    Hi
SAP NetWeaver is a comprehensive integration and application platform, that works with your existing IT infrastructure to enable and manage change. With SAP NetWeaver, you can flexibly and rapidly design, build, implement, and execute new business strategies and processes.
SAP NetWeaver unifies integration technologies into a single platform and is preintegrated with business applications, reducing the need for custom integration. The platform is based on industry standards and can be extended with commonly used development tools such as Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE); Microsoft .NET; and IBM WebSphere.
J2EE and Java are generally accepted as the standard Web programming technologies. SAP Web Application Server has both an ABAP and a J2EE personality, supporting both programming environments in a common, integrated infrastructure.

    Thanks in Advance.
    Faisal Khalil

    Dear Faisal,
Considering your profile, I would advice you to first spend some time with ABAP Programming and then get some practical exposure in this field. Later on you can decide if you want to continue as technical consultant or techno-functional consultant or functional consultant. You will have other choices also like SAP Netweaver, SAP XI etc.
Hope this helps you. Please let me know in case of any specific queries.

  • Career guidance...Pls advise

    Hi Abap gurus...
This is Manoj from Hyderabad, working as a SE in a MNC..I am currently having 2.5 yrs of exp in Mainframes(COBOL,JCL,IMS,DB2 etc..).
I am planning to switch to SAP ABAP as there are very few oppurtunities in Mainframes. Also,SAP is very demanding in the current IT market scenario and pay is lucrative. Would it be a wise decision to switch technology at this point of time in my career after 2.5 yrs exp in MF??? Please advise...
After learning Abap and having no real time exp in it, how difficult wud be to get a good job??
Any suggestion wud be appreciated....Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
If you know COBOL and SQL, you will have familiarity with ABAP...
Depend of the place that you are...
In Brazil, if you do not have experience with ABAP, is not so lucrative and easy to get a job... And normally, ABAPer receives (payment) less than a functional consultant... =/
    Good Lucky!

  • Career guidance please help

i have 13 years of exprience as hardware and networking person an science graduate.
8 months back i have gone through instructor led training for oracel 9i dba track( all four titles sql, funda I, funda II, per & tuning). I am looking for a job but found that all companies need oracle apps dba and very very few need 9i dba.(plus experience no freshers)
so should i persue OCP or do the instructor led training for oracle apps dba or else sun solaris admin.
which one will fetch me a job and secure my future in long term.suggest a growth path.
    please guide me
    thanks
    anil M.

I wrote a long article about this in my blog last year.
I think if you're looking for a secure career in the long term then stick with networking, as every computing architecture for the foreseeable future is going to be a network. But I can understand that the thrill of crawling under desks sticking cables into hard-to-get-at ports might pall after a while. So by all means stick at the Oracle DBA line if you want: just bear in mind that it is easier to move into a new line of work by shifting sideways from an existing job than it is to persuade an employer to take on a learner.
    Two last thoughts:
    (1) Oracle may be a legacy technology. Which is not to say it's not a solid, good product. It just cannot maintain its dominance of the RDBMS market forever, and of course the RDBMS market is not guaranteed either.
    (2) Have you considered moving into application servers? I would have thought webmastery was a better fit with a background in networks.
    Good luck, APC

  • Career shift to Netweaver

    Hi all,
I am an ABAPer withone and half years of experience.
I have worked on ALV Reports,BDC's,Enhancements,BADI's,Modulepool,Smartform.
1)Can somebody guide me if its appropriate to move to some Netweaver component as i will be starting form zero in that component.
2)If yes then which Netweaver component is appropriate and are there enough projects in the market(India) as it makes no sense in learning and then siting on the bench.
3)Or its appropriate to learn some functional module like SD or CRM.
    Thanks.

Learn new SAP technologies, i.e., SAP PI/XI, SAP BI or GRC.
    cheers

  • Career ladder in Netweaver EnterPrise Portal

    Hi ,
Can any one advise me on whats the carreer ladder in SAP Netweaver Enterprise Portal ? i started working  as ABAP  developer and now get trained in Enterprise Portal , So i wanted to ask  weather to go for portal ahead or continue with  ABAP..

    Hi Gitesh,
Good... you have got this opportunity to trained on SAP Enterprise portal.  This is a niche skill and very high demand in market because all SAP systems are integrated to SAP EP to get one portal for end users.
This is a good opportunity and you would get high salary when you have 2 to 3 years of experience.
If you meet most of the guys who are working in SAP EP they were from ABAP and cross trained in SAP EP.
So this is excellent opportunity for you to grow.
