Hi Gurus,
I am having around 3yrs experience in BW both in development & support. Now I am in support & feel I want to learn & upgrade to something new & hot in the market like Net weaver or MDM, where I can expect to get a handsome salary also. However I have a good conceptual understanding of Finance & interested also. So what do you suggest me?
I am equally comfortable with both functional as well technical sides.
Along with BW which one would pair better? FI-Co or Net weaver/MDM? My Question is which of the above combination BWNetweaver / BWFICO would fetch me a better value in the market?

Hi Shree,
If you are Finance background and are comfortable in functional areas, FICO will be better & of course FICO is the highest paid in the market I think but you have to be really good in financial areas.
MDM also has pretty good market.
Did you ever think of BW-BPS? As you are a BW guy, you can explore BW-BPS. It's market value is huge in demand and pay also really attractive.
As you are talking about Netweaver, you have to learn it for BW prospective also as BW / BI is under Netweaver now.
For combination wise - i would say BW -Netweaver is better combination.
This are just my opinions and ultimately desicion is yours. I would suggest you to do a little more research before taking any final switch.

This is a generic question around career guidence: What should be the typical/practical career graph for a person who intends to work around SAP Netweaver?
Initially, when I started my career, I was put into SAP XI, which I learnt with some enthusiasm and kind of became a fanatic towards the concept of ESOA and Integration. But later I found out that just learning SAP XI isn't enough, I realized that to actually be able to position SAP XI as a solution, I need to understand the whole netweaver architecture and also understand the functionalities of the Systems that will be integrated thtough Netweaver. So I wanted to have an understanding of how ERP works; kind of shifted to functional and worked in Some Retail Projects with SAP Retail, alongside XI. Now I understand, to a fair extent, the functionality of ERP and what benefits can it provide to the business. So, in short, I have XI skills, I functionally understand ERP, I know what can be technically done through ABAP (having done some of the coding myself); Now I want to leverge all these knowledge in positioning the entire Netweaver Platform as a solution to the business. For that, I need a functional understanding of the business problem solving capabilities of Netweaver and a Technical understanding of the Netweaver Architecture for enabling the same. For this, where do I start? How do I grow? I know SDN is the best place to start-off, definitely, but I am just looking for some guidence.
If any of you Gurus can provide me the guidence, that will be of much help.

Seeking help from all of you for enlighten me with inputs for enabling me to take next step as a SAP EHS Functional Consultant Role.
Quick information about myself, I am 43 year young guy, have done my Masters in Chem, Post Graduate Diploma in Safety Health and Environment, Certification in NEBOSH-International General Occupational Health & Safety, Lead Auditor of ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 with 20+ years of industrial experience of implementation of Safety Health and Environmental Management in various industries (Engineering, Oil & Gas, Automobile, Automotive, Chemical, Facility Management & Infrastructure at India, Middle East, South Africa & US) by working and auditing them for respective EHS Standards.
As I have personally used and witnessed usage of many of the EHS related software which were ERP/ SAP based and found them very useful for making an fool-proof arrangement for effective EHS implementation. I did found some of the functional improvements areas during usage of the same i.e. by deploying EHS best practices I have witnessed at other industries directly or through software which will finally benefit the end-user and hence for the society too.
Following are my queries -
1. What can be the career path for person like me, who is having EHS functional knowledge & experience but does not have direct SAP implementation related experience and certification?
2. What are the minimal certification and qualification I will be requiring before switching to SAP Functional Consultant Role?
3. Who can be some of the best employer for me start this role?

Future Scope of SD for an abaper.
Therefore these are my hints:
Check first: SAP EHS Management for Beginners
Try to understand what SAP is doing (what means which solution exists and which solution is the right one to start with etc.).
To act a functional guy in SAP area you need basic understanding about SAP solutions.
1.) Shortly: there is no SAP certification in place for the SAP EHS solutions.
2.) Career: normally you ned first some basic SAP and SAP EHS training. The SAP training is available nearly worldwide. SAP EHS training is limited. E.g. there seems to be no good training option available in India (has been discussed as well in this FORUM).
Based on you "starter package" (know how) the "SAP EHS end user" option may be is the best. If you know about legal aspects/regulations etc. then by working on that in a company using SAP EHS solutions you will get closer to "technique" For work in EHS environment you need to have knowledge at least in the area (as called by SAP): product safety, dangerous goods management; as these are the "core" topics to cover in a company handling chemistry. On the top: if you have knowledge in the area of "Label Management" or "Waste" topics then you are in good starting position.

I am planning to change my Career path from IT Analyst to SAP IS RETAIL Consultant. I am Currently working in retail company (UK Retailer) from last 4 years as IT Analyst involved in Mapping business requirements and Implementing new systems etc.
I don't have any experience in SAP, I am planning to join Certification course for SD+ISRETAIL and I Checked with one of SAP Authorized training Center and got overview of IS RETAIL.
Retail industry is booming accross the world (including India) i think there will be enough opportunities for SAP IS Retail Consultants(this is one of the reason for changing Career path) . I believe experience i have gained in retail domain from last four years will be useful in implementing SAP IS Retail to suit client requirements.

As SAP is moving towards new Dimesnion components i am seeking some guidence from you...
I have 1 yrs exp in abap , now i m confussed with should be my next step, which would be better for my future career and growth aspects..whether it should be:
1)XI--as i have abap exp, but dont know abt future prospects of XI and demand in market.
2)EP--as i hve some knowledge of core java, but i dont see enough prjs on EP nd also Java exp candidates already in the market they would be having upper hand.
3)BW--It can be other good option but dont know abt it more...but heard good pay in this field..:)
Please help me in deciding what should be my primary and secondary skill...???

You have Abap and core java , then it will be very easy to learn XI , and to work also , try to concentrate on the ALE - IDoc related and Webservice related , imporve your java skills , coming new XI will have more focus on Enterprise SOA. and completely service oriented ..
So presently huge requirement in XI , be an Expert , sure you will get it.

Career change guidance

Hello Everyone,
I am currently technical lead in Java/J2EE technologies with 7 Years of Experience, I have good knowledge of software enterprise application development with all industry lead tools and frameworks.
I am desperately looking for a SAP career and have a passion from my initial career. What SAP modules would be good for me to learn having Java technical career. Kindly guide me and help me to peruse a SAP career. I am intrested to do certifications also to get expertise.

SAP XI seems to be doing pretty well and should be able to find something eventually. That is not to say that SAP Security in not a good choice, but jumping into SAP Security would be a totally new concept (unless you have already been exposed to that area as part of your ABAP experience)

New to macs need guidence on what macbook pro to get for video & photo

I see there are alot of what looks like good deals on ebay for macbookpros, is ebay a safe place to get a mac book pro? If I get one with OS leopard from ebay, can I get a discount or free upgrade to snow leopard?
among the features I have read about snow leopard, it has a "put back" feature for accidental deletions, does leopard have anything like this?
I am in California, if I get a macbookpro directly from mac online or a mac store do I pay tax? like a regular electronics store? why dont macs ever go on sale? they seem to be the same price all over.
what would be the bare minimum in specs to get in a macbookpro for smooth rendering/editing of all types of video like high def?
I may also need to run some windows programs; MS word, Excel, photoshop & roxio easy media creator. I have read about vm ware fusion & paralles for macs, which would be best for running my windows programs without problems. Will vm ware fusion or parallels run on OS snow leopard?

I believe you are referring to TIme Machine, which is a built in software back up feature in both Leopard and Snow Leopard. You will need an external hard disc drive to make it work.

If you buy a computer from the Apple Web Store, you will have to pay the sales tax your state charges - but you won't have to pay for shipping.

Yes, even at most reputable mail order companies the price is usually within 50 or so dollars of Apple's list price. This is another clue to be suspicious of the ebay prices.

To edit HD video, I would max out the ram and you will also need to have fast (firewire) external disc drives to store the media as you will not want to have the media stored on your internal system disc.

Yes. There are reports that there are some problems with Snow Leopard, but these should be ironed out shortly, or have already been ironed out as the 3rd party software makers update their software for Snow Leopard.

OK, well this is something I can't advise you on. If you were to get a new Mac, you would need to: Buy the Mac, buy Fusion or Parallels, buy a full copy of Windows to install on your windows partition, buy the ram upgrade, and buy external storage. Plus, you will have to learn a new operating system, and new software like iMovie and iDVD.
What the relative value this has to you, I don't know. If you have a long term commitment to working with photography and videography, then without a doubt, I would recommend doing it as eventually in your career you will need to be familiar with how to work on the Mac platform.
If you are doing it just to make better DVDs from MPG movies shot with a still camera, I would think about it.

I have two Macs, an i-Mac flat screen that runs on OSX.4.11 and i-tunes 9 and a MacBook Intel Duo that runs on Snow Leopard and i-tunes 10. I have carefully followed all the Advanced instructions for sharing music libraries, which is not a problem; however I am unable to transfer following the instructions to drag the music I want from t he i-Mac flat screen library onto the MacBook. Help! Please! Also, my new Nano will not accept i-tunes 9 which is where I have my old i-pod contents stored--the old i-pod died. Many thanks!

UPDATE: I disconnected the iPhone, restarted it, and tried again to sync it with the iTunes library on the iMac. This time it worked
Now I'm going to try to transfer the music into the iTunes library on the PowerBook, then sync with that, delete the library on the iMac, and sync the (hopefully full of all my music) iPhone with the iMac again.

In NOKIA, Customer is cared till he buys. After th...

I had recently bought a Nokia N91 handset for Rs 28,000, about 3 months back. Within a week, it had to be dispatched to customer care centre due to malfunctioning. I received the phone back after a month. After a month again, it had to be dispatched to Nokia care centre on 5-Sep-2006. The target date for delivery was 5-Oct-2006. In Nokia, it takes minimum 1 month to repair any phone. The complaint number is 2-1JKT61.
Upon inquiring on helpline about my handset after 10 days, I was told that the new target date is 30-Sep-2006.And, upon inquiring on 30-Sep-2006, they confirmed delivery, and that I could collect the handset from the Nokia care centre. Similarly, SMS status, indicated “Status closed, Send to L3”. It seems Nokia believes, the term L3 is very informational, and satisfies the customer’s query.
Upon reaching the center, I was informed, that they have no information about the delivery of this handset. Further, there was no revert mail about the handset delivery from the head office. It was very encouraging for a person who had just driven 15km drive to the center in just over 1.5 hrs.
I was told to wait another 48 hrs and thereafter, another 12 hrs. I was further assured, that Nokia repair cell would inform me about the handset.
Of course, they has never called till date.
Obviously feeling frustrated, I aggressively inquired on the helpline about the handset. I was asked to behave professionally by the helpdesk of the company. But in events till date, Nokia has not showed professionalism as expected from this company. Further, my monetary investment is blocked due to this negligence.
After personally visiting the Nokia care centre, I am now told, there are scores of cases in this model, and that my case is not so special. And, there will be no refund or replacement.
When challenged about dragging Nokia Customer Care to consumer court, they openly claim that this case will be dismissed from the court without success, and till the case continues, the handset will not be returned.
It seems the Nokia as a company has not only employed good lawyers, but also the judges, who will always deliver the case in their favor. After all, consumer safety laws of this country are not strong enough to teach Nokia a lesson.
I will be moving a petition against nokia in consumer court, and I would request all Nokia handset owners who have suffered the agony of the nokia customer care to unite and fight against this injustice.

I have to say that my experience of Nokia is just the same and it only adds insult to injury when moderators on here patronisingly lecture to the very customers who pay Nokia employee's wages by buying the handsets.
This is a help forum. People may want help on how to formally complain to or about Nokia. I'm afraid moderators and those fortunatel enough not to have suffered at the hands of Nokia's appalling customer service need to be realistic. Nokia cannot have it both ways; they either take customer service seriously and train/remove the idiots they have on their helpdesk or theyt accept that there will be a backlash.
I have exhausted just about every avenue I can think of to recover a handset I have been without now for the fifth week. See 'Beat this' in the Smartphones forum for more info.
I have tried phoning, e-mailing and writing letters. Your phone calls go unreturned. E-mails are replied to usually but in a usually generic and always unhelpful fashion, offering nothing by way of resolution. My letter to Nokia Head Office has gone unanswered. Out of sheer frustration (well you can only believe the usual line 'we're still waiting for a response to X Dept' for so long), I have written to the Board of Directors of Nokia in Finland. Not after though speaking to the MD of CRC, Mr Cameron Radford who also expressed concern that Nokia just refuse point blank to take ownership of a situation they themselves have created.
I had my handset stolen. It was brand new. Despite CRC claiming on insurance with the carrier, UPS, they are not allowed to use the claim to provide a new replacement handset to me. They will only offer a secondhand handset because Nokia insist this is part of the warranty. Because not even a second hand handset was available for me, Nokia saw fit to keep me waiting for weeks even before anyone told me what the cause of the delay was.
I do not understand how a business that is so blatantly inadequate when it comes to basic customer service can be so large. Nokia are an absolute disgrace. If the company took a pride in customer service, instead of 'telling off' those who are so frustrated, they complain on here, they would actual pick up the problem and do something to turn it around.

Need advise on SQL,plsql developer career and future

Hi all,
I need all your advise in making an important decisions of my career path.I work in the IT field and have about total 4-5 years of work experience involving development and testing in a product based organization.
Presently-i have got chance since last 4-5 months to work with writing PLSQL code,SQL etc on a part basis. I am very much interested to continue my career path as a PLSQL developer.
But, unfortunately -in the total of my work experience-in the past 2-3 years-i worked with a internally developed DB query language(similar to SQL) and then from last few months with plsql. But this chance to work with PLSQL has been for less time and limited scope after which i will have to work on something different.
Ii want to fully take on my career in SQL,PLSQL as Database Developer.
Please advise me if my thinking seems logical and good and if I could do it. I have planned on applying for relevant SQL,PLSQL profile jobs.
Now, My serious worry and concern is I feel that since i have worked very less with PLSQL-so am low in confidence that I feel i wont be able to answer ,or tell or not knowledgeable enough to be able to clear the technical interviews for SQL,plsql development profile which would need at least some years of experience.
I have started studying and practsing PLSQL,sql by myself for from internet. So, can you all please advise me on how could i prepare myself for hard core technical interviews of SQL,PLSQL knowledge for about 2-3 years expertise.
I know its not much possible to be competent so much in the subject by just studying and practicing.Its easy as saying to study and get it by myself-but i want to try and will put my best for it.

If u r good in ABAP its not necesary to do certification.Certifcation are helpful tp promote you and add an extra edge.

When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

Problem in career and job iview

Hi all,
We have installed ESS 60.1 on our EP(ep6 sp11) and was later upgraded to EP6 SP16. The backend used is ECC5.0 IDES. Almost all the iViews work fine. But there is a problem with the Career and Job iView.
When the 'Apply directly' or the other option in Career & Job is clicked, it throws an object not found exception. The Patch applied on the backend is ERECRUIT 300: Add-On Installation.
Please let me know what the problem could be and the possible solution for this.

After installing SAP e-Recruiting 3.00 with Support Package 1, or higher,for career and job workset related applications to work,have you made the following settings in the Implementation Guide (IMG):
1.Choose the following IMG path: Cross-Application Components ? Homepage Framework ? Resources ? Define Server for Resources. Enter the server name and the port of your e-Recruiting system.
2.Assign the server to all e-recruiting resources and add the URL parameters stored. To do so, choose the following IMG path: Cross-Application Components ? Homepage Framework ? Resources ? Define Resources.
Enter the e-recruiting server for the following resources. Add the relevant URL parameters by replacing in the BSP client the 000 client with the client of your e-recruiting system.
