Career in MM functionality

Hi,
this is a very generic question, i am currently pursuing a MBA in supply chain management and i plan to get myself certified in the MM(materials management) module in sap.I have 2 years of work experience in the logistics industry. Is there any other area which i need to concentrate on?
Is it wise to get a certification in the functional side or does the technical side have a higher demand as far as the recruiters are concerned ? Will this help me to increase the chances of getting a job ?
your posts would be highly appreciated in curbing my career path and short term goals.

Thanks a bunch Mr Srikanth ,.I have an undergraduate degree in information technology but i was never comfortable in writing codes
I have a query regarding SAP as a whole with respect to the career opportunities . If i have a certification in SAP MM and a MBA in supply chain will it help me with an differential advantage over the rest ? are the recruiters looking for this ? if not what do they look for? is there any module which is most sought after?.
I plan to get the certification through siemens who are the authorized partners for sap and it costs around 3.3 lakhs , is it worth it ? they offer a 1 month course and at the end the certification.Since i am making a investment decision.
Sorry if i am asking you too many questions , i certainly appreciate your efforts in trying to answer my queries .

  • I am looking to build my career as a Functional Consultant in Oracle SCM-OM

    Hello ,
As in Subject i just briefed about my expectation.I just want to give little more info about my tenure so far.I am a BSc(in Bio science) holder with close to 6 years of Operational experience.I have worked in SAP platform for OM and later i have worked in Software Licensing in Oracle R12.I am a SQL certified from OU. I have read couple of post from OTN and some other sites aswel just to know how could i start learn about Consultant role.I tried to find out if i can get in touch with any person who is a Functional consultant and learn from him/her with real time implementation.I have checked in some of Oracle authorized training centers where the cost is too high but not sure whether learning from there will be useful. Please let me know whether my expectation could be fulfill and suggest me the best way to learn also.
Thanks in advance for your time & reply.

The first query points to many threads where a similar question has been asked. You can change the query search words to get more hits.
If you are looking specifically for OM, it will also help if you network with some non-IT guys to understand how, in general, Order Management is used in various industries. You can talk to Order Entry clerks to understand order taking process (such as customer calls, they create a quote, customer approves, quote is turned into order), you can talk to Warehouse personnel to understand order shipping process (Such as order ship date nears, they run a report to find which orders need to ship in the next x days, they generate pick tickets to get material, they generate packing slips, generate invoices, shipping notices etc.)
Talk to some AR folks to understand credit processes and invoice /collection processes.
These folks don't have to use Oracle. What you are looking for a generic understanding of how the business /processes work.

  • How to shift from ERP tester to SAP Functional Consultant?

    Hi friends,
I'm currently working as a Software tester and have worked with ERP applications(Not SAP) for more that 2.5 years now. I do have a decent domain knowledge of ERP at present.
I want to learn SAP and make a career as a functional consultant.
My question is:  If i do a course in one of the functional modules of SAP will i be able to get a job in SAP with my prior experience of ERP?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Arjun

    Dear Mr.Arjun Nair,
Welcome to the world of SAP. Congrats for choosing sap as your career platform.
I appreciate your interest on SAP ERP.
Based on your interest you can choose any module ( technical / functional ).Each module has its own importance in real time.
If you want learn more about any / preffered module, you can always access help.sap.com which will give you a list of results and among them you can choose whichever link you want to start studying on that subject.
Based on your research choose a right module which suits you better.
It might depends on your Interest also, Like if you are interested more on Programming side then think about Technical module ABAP.
Or if your interest is more on Functional side ( Requires business process knowledge on various / any industries & configuration skills in ERP ).
Based on your experience I  believe that the  below functional modules will be more suitable for people who has some Business / Domain / experience . Just think & try to follow the SAP Help to take a right decision.
MM – MATERIAL MANAGEMENT  ( More about Purchasing related activities  / Goods receipts / Inventory Management / vendor management )
SD – SALES & DISTIBUTION ( All sales related activities)
    PP – Production Planning
    Wish you all the best.

  • Testing Career: Is there any SAP career growth???

    Dear SAP Experts,
I am SAP SD Certified fresher, completed certification in Oct.2013.
I joined one of the reputed MNC in June 2014.I was happy thinking that I got entry in SAP but soon my happiness converted into sorrowness because after spending 40 days in the company I got testing project.
In this project my responsibility is to take care testing part.Client is rolling out SAP regionwise and outsourced testing part to my company but there is not much exposure to SAP.
Now there are numerous questions in my mind:
    1) Shall I continue this role or search a new job(but getting new job would very tough as I am fresher)?
    2) Is this testing project affect my SAP career?
    3) Going forward what are different things I should learn so that I will get good hike after 2 yrs if I continue this role.
    4) Shall I join any institute which will give me insight about support or implementation project so that I can show in next intw(after 2 yrs) even if I worked in testing project i know process of implementation or I know the types of tickets and all other stuff
    Kindly guide me.
    Regards,
    Abhijeet.

    Hi Abhijeet,
This is sad part but I don't want to demotivate you more as this is your first job in SAP career.
"Which road you take that will lead your growth".  The problem is if you are starting as testing career then you will move on to same testing roles and will not get any SD implementation or support opportunity.  Just ask them, would you able to be part of Support or Implementation project.
Positive side: Sometimes if your project likes you, then you will move into SAP implementation project down the line, due to increasing demand of skills in your project.  I have seen many people in the past and recently projects recruited as testing guy then moved into functional roles on implementation.
Testing may be ok in the beginning but do not stay longer because your profile not worthy in future.  Look for better opportunity if they ask you stay more than 6 or 1 year in same testing roles.
Career Path for Testing - Test Analyst, Senior Test Analyst -> Testing Manager -> Testing Director
Career Path for Functional Consultant - Functional Consultant -> Senior Functional Consultant -> Functional Lead -> Solution Architect or Project Manager -> Programme Manager

  • E71 Function Key

Hello everyone.. I just owned E71 for a week.. I noticed just now that the function key in this case the function key at my E71 is quite different from the others key.. All of you E71 owners know function key rite.. It's the one at bottom left.. It's the one to combine with the left softkey to lock and unlock keypad..
What the difference is that my function key seem lighter to push.. It has a slack somehow.. While the other keys is kinda rigid to push..
Is it because the function key "work" harder than other keys?
You need to push it frequently everytime you lock and unlock keypad.. And you need to keep pushing it to enter number and any other character in the upper key display just like shift key in keyboard when writing messages..
Or it's because my keypad/E71 that defect?

Well it's turn out that my E71 keypad that had problem..
There is no such thing such as special design function key..
What makes my function key become "special" because my "under" part of the keypad is not properly fixed at place.. It's position is a little down..
I found out this by my own experiment by carefully massaging the function key "up" so the under part of the function key back to it's place.. Making it rigid again to push just like the other keys..
So what lessons do I had from this problem :
    1. Carefully check the product when buying.. Ask for replacement as quickly as possible if there are any defect..
    2. Always asks for second, third, fourth and so on opinions.. Don't take conclusion too early in my case the first opinion I had is from technician at Nokia Care that said my phone was "special design".. haha

  • Writing a binary file

    Hi,
I have trouble when writing a binary file. Here is what I do:
I have some VI's collecting various data for a fixed period of time. I put all the data into 1D arrays at a fixed frequency (they all have the same size). Once it is done I merge all the arrays into one 2D array and I write that to a binary file. If I wait about 10 seconds after writing the file and I repeat the whole thing, everything is fine and the timing is correct. If I wait for a shorter period of time (say a sec, and this is the maximum I can wait to have a usable application) then the timing is wrong in the first part of the loop (the time-critical data-acquisition one). Of course, if I don't write the file, everything is fine (I have to wait about 250 msec between two runs, but that's ok). Any advice ?
I also tried several things like streaming the data to disk during the time-critical period and this works fine only if the file allready exists. If not I experience jitters again. I don't really want to stream the data in real time, but it could work if I can get rid of the jitters. Again, any advice ?
I'm using LV7.1 and the real time module running on a PC (ETS).
Another, sort of related, topic: I noticed that when using 2D arrays within time critical loops all the process are slowdown whereas if I use several 1D arrays everything is fine... Any idea why ?
    Thanks,
    Laurent

    Hello,
File I/O transfer rates during streaming to disk depends on several factors: CPU speed and load, hard drive technology (IDA / Serial ATA / SCSI ...), quality of programming. High jitter is always due to bad programming. File I/O operations are not deterministic. So, file I/O VI's must not be called in the critical task. Data must be saved in the normal priority VI's in order to keep jitter as low as possible. This is the reason why an application in RT is based on RT FIFO to transfer data from the critical loop and the normal priority VI.
You will find a lot of tutorials detailing the key concepts for RT programming at the link below:
    * Real-Time Module
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzone.nsf/webcategories/C25F8C664230613A862567DF006ABB06
Moreover, memory allocation in LabVIEW is implicit. You must use large set of data carefully because some function reallocate new buffers for their outputs instead of reusing the input buffers (like the function "build an array"). You will find an example of how we can decrease the memory use with array in LabVIEW in the tutorials linked above.
If you need more specific advices, you can post a sample code that reproduce the behavior that you does not understand. I will try to look at this and give you my feedback.
    Sincerely.
    Matthieu Gourssies, NIF.

  • ABAP-HR or XI

    Hi Experts,
I am a Computer Science engineering Graduate with approx 2 years of SAP experience.
    My experience includes:
    OOPS-ABAP programming (8+ months)
    ABAP-HR (7+ months)
    SAP-NW –XI (4+ months)
I am getting option to choose ABAP-HR or XI for my next assignment. I have good interest for both so got confused what to choose.
Kindly guide me on the basis of current and future SAP market and requirement
    Thanks and best regards,
    Rahul

i wld advide you to enhance your ABAP HR skills, as ur 7 months of previous experience is too little to claim command on HR module. You may touch new concepts of ABAP HR in the new project which will do good for your career as Techno-functional consultant who are always in demand.
exploit the opportunity to master one area, instead of diversifying into alltogether new one.
Ofcourse XI is a good area with future but if you choose XI all your previous Exp in ABAP HR may go waste.
The idea is to maximise exposure and opportunity for future by cashing upon experience and knowledge gained over years.Leverage on your current skills.
Ofcourse final decision is yours. Good Luck with whatever you choose.

    Hi Vikrant,
Since you are more interested towards HR than ABAP, in long term you can think of moving into SAP HCM functional career. And to be able to work as a functional consultant, you need to have good amount of business process knowledge. Considering this you can start working in core HR and gain domain experience and move your career later towards functional area.
And more over you have ABAP HR experience, this will be very handy when you are a functional consultant.

You have to be a bit careful using that function. If you look, the first thing it does is to check WHICH framework to use (old or new)...and oddly, for for infotypes 0000,0001,0003,0031 and 200n, it ALWAYS forces it to use the old framework. (ugg!)
As said above, for HCM P&F, you should be using the DCIF, so make sure you know which infotypes you need to "touch" before using the function over the decoupled IT/buffer container class handling.
Lastly, why are you trying to do this for IT0000 anyways? The framework does this for you automatically when you assign MASSN and MASSG (SAP_PA picks those up as "special fields" and creates the IT0000 for you). If you need to manipulate the values for action and action reason, use a simple generic service to set/assign the fields and still let the framework handle it automatically for you in SAP_PA.
oh! ....and TCLAS and DIALOG_MODE are not optional parameters of the function.

  • Use exchange rate from base document

    Hello,
for exmaple , I copy a delivery from a sales quotation. The 'Draw document Wizard" appears and I choose the option "use exhange rate from base document", however, the ddw uses the exchange rate from the exchange rate table, instead from the base document.
Where is the mistake? What I've done wrong?
    Regards,
    Thilo

    Hi,
Note 703028 explains the behaviour and also refers to the EES Kerstin mentions.
When reading the note it is important to read it slow and read it carefully.
The functionality will change and be enhanced in the next release 8.8.
    [Information Page on Release 8.8|https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000199032009]
There are training sessions for this version starting in the coming weeks, you can register on this page.
The currently available presentation ( [SAP Business One 8.8 Overview Delta Session|https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000585932009E.ppt] ) on the site only mentions the change in copying exchange rate differences briefly on slide 27 and does not go into detail.
    Hope it helps,

    Hi,
All mentioned options are possible to access SAP Business One, like:
Static IP address for SAP B1 server
    Citrix (application or remote desktop)
VPN (you can even setup a simple PPTP, L2TP or OpenVPN). But please be aware that VPN is not recommended by SAP way of connection to ERP systems
There is the fourth nice alternative to avoid VPN and RDP in case you can't use both of them (because of, for instance, local network security settings that blocks you to setup a connection). You can setup HTML Clientless RDP connection at your main server of the remote network (it is even not necessary your SAP B1 server, you should do it on the main machine that has static IP):
Guacamole - HTML5 Clientless Remote Desktop
In this case you will get the RDP connection to your client or server machine with SAP B1 from any kind of network and any kind of device with no additional client setup. It is even work from the mobile phone, but, of course, the screen it too small
Here is how it looks like (in my local browser):
    Kind Regards,
    Siarhei
