Career in SAP ABAP

Hello Everybody
I just need your help and suggestions . It will be really worthwhile if anybody can come up with answers to my question below.
I have 4 years IT experience and have been working on Project Management of Web Development Field for 1st three years and last year in Adobe Flex and have good knowledge of OOPs concepts . I have decided to switch to SAP for better prospect in order to secure my future along with handsome income. Today I went to JKT SAP ACADEMY ( SAP Authorised Training Partner listed in SAP page ) in kolkata and they suggested me to go for SAP ABAP with e-learning module upto maximum 5 months for 200 Hrs duration with a course fee of 1,76,000/- along with materials and after that pay 33K  for examination fees to get SAP GERMANY CERTIFICATE after clearing it. They will provide placements like arranging interview .
Now i am thinking whether its useful to join or not after paying hefty sum ?? Is there any chances of getting job for Fresher in SAP as certified ? Can anyone suggest me please ? I also understand that ABAP is suitable for programmers with OOps concepts . Instead of joining it how good will it be to learn from Online Tutorials on our own and also with books.
Looking forward to hear from you soon all.
Thanks

I would like to know if doing HANA is a better option for my career growth as all SAP products are moving into HANA or should i have experience in  ABAP for few more years before i shift to HANA ?And i would also like to career growth opportunities in SAP HANA.

  • What is best for my career: Sap ABAP or Sap BI

    Hi Experts,
I am Rajesh, done my bachelor degree in Information Technology,
having 4 years of Exp as a Mainframes Programmer in a Banking Software company.
    my job containts
    30 % understanding the product
    40 % Analysis
    30 % Programming
my career Goal is to get SAP job in Abroad(US/UK/AUS) for that i am planning like below:
First i want to gain some minimum(8-10 Months) Exp in India by
Choosing one Best(or)Hot Cake Module in SAP, which matches any one of 3 points
1)Currently that module should have more demand less supply.
    2)Should have good Future
3)it should not be much vast Because need to expertise Early
I already Trained and good in SAP-Core ABAP,
but just Core ABAP is not enough to get expertise in ABAP, because i need to add it with
    OOPS, Webdynpro, Workflow ETC.
even i Trained in all the above, it is difficult to be Expert in 1 YR.
and Hard to get job in US/UK/AUS.
So i am planning to go with SAP-BI for below Reasons
    1) SAP BI is not that much Vast compare to ABAP for becoming an Expert on it
    2) for Skill Set ABAP+BI, can have good openings
    3) SAP-BI is a techno functional Job, where ABAP is not a final Destination.
    4) in Future, BI will help to get into HANA.
I request you to guide me, whether my decision towards my Goal is correct or not,
if not, please give valuable Suggestions to reach my destination.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Rajesh

    Hi Rajesh,
as per as your selection of module, its a good mix, but i have a few words that i wants to share with you. Being a developer in sap abap i have come across some points where many indivisuals get strucked by asking what is next.
Started with sap abap you will have many options to go ahead, as you have seen that the combination of BI along with ABAP has an added advantages, and yes later on you can move towards HANA, one of the major sap module in which the database of sap persist in furure.
As far as i concern, if you wants to be in technical stream of sap you will have UI5, Webdynpro, Workflow, BW/ BI, HANA etc, so you may go ahead with these options, but as you have told that you wants to get hands on these things in one year, i think you have to devote in abap as much as possible
what you will require to know the syntax and semantics used in SAP, along with all the stuffs associated with it, once you will get familiar with it, you can play as you wants.
But one thing more is that its not mandatory to have sap abap knowledge to learn other technologies,  you can learn without abap, but if yiu have hands on in abap somehow it will boost your future in related technilogies.
So, finally your decision is on right track, what you will need is to get it as your passion.

  • Begin a SAP career starting as ABAP IV developer

    Hello,
Soon I want to start a course in ABAP IV, with the aim to get certified in the medium term. I've played some SAP, and I think it could like me  much.
Anyway, I would like to make a career in SAP world, beginning as ABAP developer as IT professional I am. But in large term, I would like to get specialized in any module. So, I would ask you if this is a real possibility, or being an ABAP developer, you get stuck the professional career as ABAP developer.
Being IT, which module can I opt for?, Only BASIS?, or also can I opt for modules like BI, FI, Sales, .. without having studied something related with management and business administration?
Regards and thanks in advance from a newbie.

    Luis,
"getting suck in the same module"....
Let me give you a parallel example, generally an actor gets similar roles based on his past (successful) performances. Breaking into different roles is difficult.
It all comes down to that particular actor - his desire, talent and hardwork.
So, there is no set answer. It all depends upon an individual and his luck.
    Good luck!

    Hi Vikrant,
Since you are more interested towards HR than ABAP, in long term you can think of moving into SAP HCM functional career. And to be able to work as a functional consultant, you need to have good amount of business process knowledge. Considering this you can start working in core HR and gain domain experience and move your career later towards functional area.
And more over you have ABAP HR experience, this will be very handy when you are a functional consultant.

  • SAP Netweaver XI      VS      SAP ABAP       VS       SAP BW

    Hi Guys,
I'm an SAP BASIS administrator. But I am thinking of a career change in my company and if I will be given a chance, I am choosing between the three below.
    SAP Netweaver XI
    SAP BW
    SAP ABAP
I am confuse on which of these three is the best one.
I like BW because many says that this is very in demand.
I like ABAP because I love programming. But I am afraid that this will not be in demand in the future because of the (Netweaver - is it true?)
Lastly, knowing that Netweaver is new in SAP, I am thinking that this will be popular and in demand now and in the future.
Could you guys share your thoughts about this? Which one is the best to choose from the three.
    Thank you in advance.
    Erwin

    Hi,
In my view as you are already experienced in BASIS you shall go with it and cover the all stacks of NetWeaver and be the NetWeaver BASIS consultant. Here you can have exposure of all the stacks XI/EP/MDM etc and as a BASIS person you will have more opportunity as well if you are able to handle it.

  • Pls advice correct sequence of learning SAP-ABAP

I am a new learner in SAP-ABAP so just wanted to know the correct sequence of learning the things in SAP-ABAP and also I need to become technically strong . So just tell me how should I start? because my conpany is going to start implementation ecc 6.0 so all module consulting working six months in my company so pls advice correct sequence of learning the things with sap consulting.
    Thanks
    R.Sudhakar

    Hi R.Sudhakar
There is no correct or incorrect sequence to any career. The most efficient way also depends more on your background and the opportunities available to you.
If your company is going to start an SAP implementation does this mean you will be part of the project team? Or, are you trying to prepare yourself by self-learning and training to learn ABAP in hopes that you will get a job in that area?
If you are working for your company your career path would be a bit different to SAP consulting. In both cases, if you are part of the team has your manager discussed training opportunities with you?
What are you currently doing in your company at the moment? Are you already a developer and trying to learn ABAP instead? What research have you done so far?
    Regards
    Colleen

  • Which module SAP ABAP or SAP PS

    Hi
I am Varun Maheshwari. I have done B.E in electrical and Electronics. I had experience of 1.8Yr in Project management as Project assistant in Centre for Wind Energy Technology(on Contract basis). My role was Planning of the project, Site selection- Pan India, Resource & inventory planning for installation purpose, Budgeting the project, Collection of the data and analysis, Report generation as per the analysis to the management and third party.  I am willing to pursue career in SAP domain but i am really confuse between SAP domain (SAP PS or SAP ABAP) which will be good if you consider growth & opportunities.
Please guide me considering Market Scenario, Future Growth & Recruitment Opportunities?
I will be highly thankful to you !!
    Regards
    Varun Maheshwari

    Hi Varun,
Since you already have almost 2 years of experience in project management, it is better to capitalize on this experience by choosing a career relevant to your experience. This experience counts when you go forward in the same area (Project management).
In SAP, for project management there are three tools serving different business processes.
    1) SAP PS (Project Systems)
    2) SAP PPM (Portfolio & Project Management)
    3) SAP CPM (Commercial Project Management)
In general it is better to start with SAP PS and then later on with SAP PPM which has very good integration with PS.
Coming to your query on future growth/recruitment opportunities.. There are lot of job opportunities for SAP PS in the market.. Any project in any company in this world requires a tool to monitor & review the project progress. Considering this organisation may use either SAP PS / PPM / Microsoft project / Primavera. But definitely organisations using SAP uses SAP PS for project management. So in short, there is no shortage of demand for SAP PS.
Considering your experience, I have given my opinion and it finally depends on you to choose a career in which you have passion.
    Regards,
    Ravi
