Career query in NW technology

Hi ,
I am an ABAP developer having an year experience, currently I wanted to update my skill set with netweaver technology.I have no experience in JAVA ,, but did a core java course and wanted to do J2ee having an idea to go with EP. I havent started with J2EE,for a little confusion either to do EP or XI.
Please do guide me for my career and to be out of this confusions.
Thanks in Advance
Rinky

Hi Rinky  ,
First of all , I would appreciate u'r diligent decision for opting to either XI or EP b'coz in career prospective (salary wise both EP & XI r best payed in industry) & oppurtinity wise ( There r good job oppurtinities)
Both XI & EP r Netweaver technologies but in XI people r more but in EP we find few.
I suggest u 2 start u'r career in EP b'coz EP requires good J2EE knowledge & since u r trained in that.
The following websites wil gain u confidence on EP:

    Hi Rinky,
If u want to move to  java n J2ee side then you have 2 options.U can switch to either EP or MI.In EP you will be working with portal n will use JSP's n EJB's where ur core java knowledge will be hellpful. If u want to use ur ABAP knowledge as well as Java den u can go for MI where you will work on Java code as well as ur ABAP skills will come to use.
However let me be clear that MI is an emerging and new technology where as you will have more prj options in EP.

  • Kodo 3.0.0 Released

    Hello All,
SolarMetric is happy to announce the general availability of Kodo JDO 3.0.0.
The latest version of Kodo JDO is the most powerful ever. Full release notes
can be found at http://docs.solarmetric.com/relnotes.html. A list of the
major changes can be found at the bottom of this email. If you have a valid
and up-to-date maintenance and support contract, you can download the latest
    release at http://www.solarmetric.com/Software/Purchase/download.php.
If you don't, please contact your sales representative
([email protected]) to determine how to upgrade.
Major changes in Kodo JDO 3.0.0 include:
    - Kodo now supports direct SQL queries and stored procedure calls through
    the javax.jdo.Query interface.
    - Technology preview of Kodo Management / Monitoring capability.
    - JRun 4 is now supported.
    - Built-in support for Borland JDataStore, as well as Microsoft Access and
Microsoft Visual FoxPro (using a JDBC-ODBC server bridge like DataDirect,
but not the Sun JDBC-ODBC bridge).
    - Refactored data caching to not lock the cache as a whole when loading data
from it or storing data into it. This change improves the concurrency of the
    cache.
    - Support for detaching and attaching instances from a persistence manager,
allowing applications to more easily use a "data transfer object" pattern.
    - Support for collection and map fields that are backed by large result
    sets.
    - Support for additional settings to control the handling of large result
    sets.
    - Better exception messages when mappings can't be found or fail validations
    against the schema.
    - Expanded smart proxies to include change-tracking for lists.
    - New externalization system for storage of field types not supported by JDO
without resorting to serializing or requiring custom mappings. Replaces the
    old stringification mapping.
    - Support for aggregates and projections in queries. See the Query
Aggregates and Projections documentation for more details.
    - New mapping system, providing more flexible mapping options.
    - Pluggable system for storing mapping information, with built-in options
for storing mapping information in the database, in JDO metadata extensions,
and in a separate mapping file. See the section on the Mapping Factory for
    more information.
    - Support for embedded 1-1 mappings, including nested embedded mappings with
no limit on nesting depth. See the section on Embedded One-to-One Mapping
    for more information.
    - Support for timestamp and state-based optimistic lock versioning, and for
custom versioning systems. See the section on Version Indicators for more
    information.
    - Configurable eager fetching of 1-1, 1-many and many-many relations.
Potentially reduces the number of database queries required when iterating
through an extent or query result and accessing relation fields of each
    instance.
    - Improved documentation and error messaging.
    Enjoy,
    -Greg

    Hi,
This plug in will it works with Kodo 4.0.1 and maven 1.0.2?

  • SQL Server to Oracle transition

    Hi,
I am SQL server DBA and application developer. At this point I decide to switch my career path to Oracle technology.
Is there any resource to help me transfer my SQL server knowledge to Oracle faster?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Alan

Well, as you have worked in SQL Server, I believe it wont be a big problem to work with oracle. All the RDBMS rules are same, they may differ in syntaxes. You can search for the comparision between oracle and sql server on google, you will get tons of papers on it.
start with oracle dcoumentation, download from otn.oracle.com site, post your doubnts/question here in the forum, or search in http://asktom.oracle.com site.

  • Drag&Relate in SAP Portal 7.0

    Hello experts,
I have a problem in SAP EP 7.0. I need to use Drag&Relate technology but in this version is not possible because this functionality is discontinued. The reason is that there is a technical reengineering of the Distributed Query Engine (DQE) technology.
But, what can I do? Is there any way to reproduce similar functionality?
    Thanks in advance,
    Belen

    Hi there Belen,
I have the same problem, only that I am using EP 6.0 SP16. The DQE doesnt start because of the "Technical reengineering" and there are a number of related functions that are not available in the portal..
For example, I am not able to add Drag and Relate targets to iViews, there is no option for adding it in the detailed Navigation. There is also no Unification section in System Administration. I am really frustrated about it..
Have you found out anything regarding Drag and Relate technology and if it will be continued again in the future? Do let me know if you have found anything regarding it.
    Thanks,
    Sameer

  • A Call for FIRST Volunteers

    To the LabVIEW Developer Community,
Engineering innovations have conquered society’s challenges and changed our world for the better.  As engineers, we should see the reports indicating a decrease in engineering enrollment in US schools as great cause for alarm.
We need to inspire and engage tomorrow’s potential engineers, and prepare them for a rigorous university education so that they are equipped to meet society’s grand challenges.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a remarkable organization, which National Instruments proudly supports.  I ask that you share your LabVIEW expertise with FIRST students at kick-off events in your communities on January 3, 2009.
FIRST is changing society’s perception of math and science achievement by celebrating it in the same way we celebrate achievement in athletics.  FIRST tackles this goal through robotics competitions where primary and secondary students work in teams alongside professional engineering mentors.  Students gain first-hand knowledge of how to solve engineering problems in a finite amount of time with limited resources.
This hands-on learning environment sparks students’ creativity and interest in engineering.  FIRST students are more than three times as likely to major specifically in engineering, and more than twice as likely to expect to pursue a career in science and technology when compared to their peers.
Starting in 2009, students in the FIRST Robotics Competition will use NI LabVIEW and NI CompactRIO to build their 130-pound competition robots.  We need the LabVIEW community to plug in and support these students’ efforts to learn LabVIEW and CompactRIO.
    Specifically, you can help by:
1- Presenting a LabVIEW training session at a FIRST kick-off event on January 3, 2009.
FIRST hosts kick-off events around the country; students will receive the challenge for 2009, and a kit containing CompactRIO and LabVIEW.  We will provide the training material, but would like a LabVIEW expert at each event!
Email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) to learn more.
2- Answering questions in the FIRST online discussion forums
          Learn more>> (http://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-2623)
Please join us in our goal to inspire the engineers of tomorrow.

  • Career advice for a Query designer

    Hello all!
I have been working with SAP and BI for about 3 years, one year of training Customer Service Advisors on how to use SAP and 2 years of working in a reporting team creating reports and dashboard using the BI tools.
I don't have any formal training with computers, although I am computer literate and can write simple html and python coding.
I'm feeling a little lost in how to continue my career - what options do I have with my current experience? What should I be learning to make the next step?
    Thanks in advance!
    Rhys

Well, you have hands-on experience in BI. Why not continue with that? There'a a lot of scope there. BI reporting is not the end of the road. You can become an expert in modelling, become an Architect, probe into BIA etc.
You could also look at SAP BO (Business Objects) as an alternative or addendum to your career.

  • Query in Data server of XML Technology

    Hello,
We are doing Database to XML Transformation.we are achieving this successfully.
But we are facing problem in XSD placeholder in target data server i.e XML Data server
First time we mentioned absolute path of XSD and got target datastore by reverse engineer XSD structure.
if i export my project and model into another machine. Then at another machine if i run my package i am getting error like
Caused By: java.sql.SQLException: As no XML and no DTD were provided, the XML schema cannot be created
    1)
My confusion is here, why every time during execution there is a need of XSD,because XSD represent the structure of XML file
And that structure ,i already imported in another machine i.e target model
    2)
if there is need , then Can we embedd XSD with importing of project and model so that whenever we export that project model in another machine ,my XSD also imported .
    3) OR
Is there any default location of data server of XML technology where agent will go for finding XSD ?
if more information required, let us know.
    please suggest.

I haven't tried this myself but give this a go:
    1. In Word, highlight the Title Row
    2. Then go to Table > Repeat Header Rows. In Word 2007+ the Repeat Header Rows button is under the Layout section.
    3. Save, upload and re-run.
Do the table headers now repeat?
I believe this post will also help you: Header table to repeat on every page

    Hi ,
You need to create a new Subroutine type program, with name which you will be giving in your PERFORM statement.
For that you write the PERFORM statement in IF and ENDIF statement.
    Ex:-
    /: IF &REGUH-LIFNR& EQ '   '.
    /: PERFORM ....
    code
    /:ENDPERFORM
    address fields of Alternate Payee
    /: ENDIF

  • SAP technology Marketing Career

As a technology consultant what is scope for getting into Marketing. As SAP has lots of Technical products (BI, EP , XI, MDM, GRC, Duet etc), I am aiming for a profile such as SAP technology Marketing personnel. Will MBA degree in Marketing help ?
Dose such combination of skills are at all required in SAP world?

Wow thats something new and valuble you let me know today. Will keep that in mind about the 5 % thing.
Well about me , I have 3 years of basis experience. Worked on ECC inlementation , upgrade and a security implemetation as well. About other products I have product knowledge of EP , Trex , Content Server and BI as Basis Consultant. I dont have expertise in each of above but I am confident enough that I understand the underlying technology and explain it convinceingly.
Is this much Technical Expreince sufficient to get started?
And in SAP learning a continuous part irrespective of which field you are. SAP technology keeps changing over night so I believe marketing guys needs to keep themselves abreast with it. Thats the best part I enjoy learning about the latest technological treads and exploring it various possibilities .
To tackle the sale jargon I am planing to get a MBA degree. Hope that will help me as well . Also looking forward to SAP CRM as well after my MBA (If at all marketing thing dose not work out).

  • Need advise on SQL,plsql developer career and future

    Hi all,
I need all your advise in making an important decisions of my career path.I work in the IT field and have about total 4-5 years of work experience involving development and testing in a product based organization.
Presently-i have got chance since last 4-5 months to work with writing PLSQL code,SQL etc on a part basis. I am very much interested to continue my career path as a PLSQL developer.
But, unfortunately -in the total of my work experience-in the past 2-3 years-i worked with a internally developed DB query language(similar to SQL) and then from last few months with plsql. But this chance to work with PLSQL has been for less time and limited scope after which i will have to work on something different.
Ii want to fully take on my career in SQL,PLSQL as Database Developer.
Please advise me if my thinking seems logical and good and if I could do it. I have planned on applying for relevant SQL,PLSQL profile jobs.
Now, My serious worry and concern is I feel that since i have worked very less with PLSQL-so am low in confidence that I feel i wont be able to answer ,or tell or not knowledgeable enough to be able to clear the technical interviews for SQL,plsql development profile which would need at least some years of experience.
I have started studying and practsing PLSQL,sql by myself for from internet. So, can you all please advise me on how could i prepare myself for hard core technical interviews of SQL,PLSQL knowledge for about 2-3 years expertise.
I know its not much possible to be competent so much in the subject by just studying and practicing. Its easy as saying to study and get it by myself-but i want to try and will put my best for it.
Please help me with your inputs, all interview questions, hard ones-suggestions,links,any study materials, real time problems which i can try solving of SQL, PLSQL development.
    Thanks All

  • Querying XML data in  Object Relational tables

    Hi,
    Can someone help me?
I have registered the purchaseorder.xsd in my database schema.
    declare
    l_bfile bfile;
    begin
    l_bfile := bfilename(
    'XMLSAMP', 'purchaseOrder.xsd');
    dbms_lob.open(l_bfile);
    dbms_xmlschema.registerschema('http://localhost:8080/purchaseOrder.xsd', l_bfile);
    dbms_lob.close(l_bfile);
    end;
This has created a table "PURCHASEORDER"
    SYS_NC_ROWINFO$ SYS.XMLTYPE
It has also created object types.
    select object_name from user_objects where object_type = 'TYPE' and object_name like 'XDBPO%'
    XDBPO_ACTIONS_TYPE
    XDBPO_ACTION_COLLECTION
    XDBPO_ACTION_TYPE
    XDBPO_LINEITEMS_TYPE
    XDBPO_LINEITEM_TYPE
    XDBPO_PART_TYPE
    XDBPO_REJECTION_TYPE
    XDBPO_SHIPINSTRUCTIONS_TYPE
    XDBPO_TYPE
I have also inserted an xml into that table.
    INSERT INTO "PURCHASEORDER"
    VALUES
    xmltype
    getFileContent('ADAMS-20011127121040988PST.xml','XMLSAMP')
Now how do I retrieve the data from this table and the other object types?
Is extractvalue the only method? I have gone thru examples in the net but everything uses the element names in xml document and not the object type names.
For example to retreive the lineitem details, this query can be used
    SELECT extractValue(value(d),'/Description')
    FROM "PURCHASEORDER" p,
    table (xmlsequence(extract(p.SYS_NC_ROWINFO$,'/PurchaseOrder/LineItems/LineItem/Description'))) d
But I want to retreive it from "XDBPO_LINEITEM_TYPE".
    Is this possible?
    Can someone help me please?
    Thanks in advance.

#1. If you had taken the time to read some of the other posts in the forum all of the answers you needed were all there..
#2. As PM's we are not expected to spend a lot of time dealing with the forums. In general we are expected only to step in and answer the questions that are not easily answered by carefully reading existing posts or deal with cases were the wrong answer is supplied.
#3. I'm technically on vacation, and posted to that effect last week, so pushing for an answer is not at all appreciated...
#4. The problem is extremely simple, at least as stated in your simple example.

  • Career Advice

    Dear all,
I have been working in the Data Migration (for R3 and ISU) for the past 3.5 years and 4 projects. I have a good understanding of most of the data migration tools and techniques like lsmw, bdc, emigall, custom programs, and also managing abap connections with oracle database using adbc, and good experience working with the client and understanding their requirements and then helping them in defining logic for transformation from Migration perspective..
As you know, there is not much of programming involved in these (barring adbc and custom programs), so I always try to practice abap on my own, like doing alv reports and adobe forms which though not related to any of the project deliverables, still help me in understanding abap concepts.
Now I am trying to learn OOPS ABAP and WebDynpro on my own, and I am confident that in some time, I will become good, if not expert, in it. But again this will be through my own practice and not because of project deliverables. So my confusion/dilemma is that how can I justify my knowledge/experience when facing a job interview as I want to continue ahead in my career as a technical consultant rather than a migration or a functional consultant. I feel more confident when I am doing coding or learning technical stuff, but without much project experience in the relevant technology ( like WebDynpro or Adobe Forms), how much sense will it  make to the interviewer.
Can someone, from their experience, assist me if I am following the right approach/attitude for trying to divert my career path?
    Sincere Thanks,
    RS

    Hi Vinay,
I'm not soo experienced but here's my opinion -
First you need to think if you want to play with data or just take care of data.
    1. Developer DBA - Works in Developement ENV and works on SP, functions, Views, Indexes and mostly
    query optimization and tuning etc
    2. Production DBA - responsible for tasks such as - installation/maintenance in Production server, log shipping, mirroring, disaster recovery, applying hotfixes/patches etc
Technologies DBA must know: SQL Server/Oracle, SSIS and good to have SSRS/SSAS
    Good to have - 70-461, 70-462, 70-463 Microsoft certifications
Apart from DBA, you also have option to choose career in MSBI (SSIS/SSRS/SSAS) which is hot in the market these days. But depends on your interest. I see more MSBI job offers than DBA in India ;)
(I presume that you are from India)
