Career shift to Netweaver

Hi all,
I am an ABAPer withone and half years of experience.
I have worked on ALV Reports,BDC's,Enhancements,BADI's,Modulepool,Smartform.
1)Can somebody guide me if its appropriate to move to some Netweaver component as i will be starting form zero in that component.
2)If yes then which Netweaver component is appropriate and are there enough projects in the market(India) as it makes no sense in learning and then siting on the bench.
3)Or its appropriate to learn some functional module like SD or CRM.
Thanks.

Learn new SAP technologies, i.e., SAP PI/XI, SAP BI or GRC.

    Dear sandeep pande  ,
BO was brought up by SAP and It will soon be included in SAP BI in next recent versions.SO its better to join BI. as it has more scope these days/
YOu should know the advantages of BI over BO
BO is the reporting toll of data warw house
BI is itself a data ware house.
the next generation SAP BI will be using BO as reporting tool instead of BeX.
BO is the reporting toll of data warw house.
on the front end it has CrystalReports.
this suit will be used in SAP as front end for EIM.
the latest version of BO is BO 11. 3.
BI is itself a data ware house.

  • Career Guidance in Netweaver technology

    Hi ,
I am an ABAP developer having an year experience, currently I wanted to update my skill set with netweaver technology.I have no experience in JAVA ,, but did a core java course and wanted to do  J2ee  having an idea to go with EP. I havent started with J2EE,for a little confusion either  to do EP or XI.
Please do guide me for my career and to be out of this confusions.
    Thanks in Advance
    Rinky

    Hi Rinky,
If u want to move to  java n J2ee side then you have 2 options.U can switch to either EP or MI.In EP you will be working with portal n will use JSP's n EJB's where ur core java knowledge will be hellpful. If u want to use ur ABAP knowledge as well as Java den u can go for MI where you will work on Java code as well as ur ABAP skills will come to use.
However let me be clear that MI is an emerging and new technology where as you will have more prj options in EP.

  • Career Shift to XI from EAI tools

    Dear All,
I have been working in EAI using with DataStageTX(formely known as Mercator) for past 6 years.  Now I am looking fto shift the career into SAP. As I dont have much functional knowledge (I am from Maths background) I am looking for the option of XI. Can you please advice the roadmap for this ?
    is it worth shifting ?
how will be career options ?
Can I learn on my own ? I understand I need to learn ABAP first ?
    Pls post your thoughts.
    Thanks
    Karu.

    Hi Karu,
As you already have EAI tool experience I think coming to XI will be a plus point for you. XI as a middleware is very hot in the market and there are quite much requirements for it these days, so it surely beneficial moving to XI. Having experience of 6 years in EAI and good knowledge of XI will make you an XI Architect some time down the line which is very mcuh required in XI in recent times.
Yes you can learn it by your own, for that you have to dedicate much time and effort. To learn it go thru XI homepage on SDN and Wiki homepage:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/xi
    https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/XI
Also check Blogs, Articles,help.sap.com and many other documents available on SDN.
ABAP is not much required in XI. Rather than you can start learning core JAVA if not know. You should understand SAP R/3 and its sturucture,IDOC,BAPI,RFC and others SAP related terms as prerequisites for XI.

    Subhasha

  • Career ladder in Netweaver EnterPrise Portal

    Hi ,
Can any one advise me on whats the carreer ladder in SAP Netweaver Enterprise Portal ? i started working  as ABAP  developer and now get trained in Enterprise Portal , So i wanted to ask  weather to go for portal ahead or continue with  ABAP..

    Hi Gitesh,
Good... you have got this opportunity to trained on SAP Enterprise portal.  This is a niche skill and very high demand in market because all SAP systems are integrated to SAP EP to get one portal for end users.
This is a good opportunity and you would get high salary when you have 2 to 3 years of experience.
If you meet most of the guys who are working in SAP EP they were from ABAP and cross trained in SAP EP.
So this is excellent opportunity for you to grow.

    Hi Sandeep,
i agree with your statement that you learn something then you should nt be sitting on bench. But here the important thing to learn is aptitude and some experience when you think of functional modules particularly. I really feel you should be going into Netweaver components for two reasons,
    1) you are already a seasoned technical guy so you can easily understand the the technology.
    2) yes there are many oppurtunities for Netweaver components like EP, XI now PI etc. This is your cup of tea.
You can think of getting into SD or CRM if you had some selling experience. This is not say that you cant do without that since there are already people doing it this way but the level of excellence would be different. Though excellence may be debatable but its true. This is what i feel.

  • SAP Netweaver MDM Career

    Hello Experts,
I have 7 years of experience in SAP Technical mainly in ABAP, Interface technology with ALE/EDI/IDocs, Workflows.
How best career shift in MDM considering i have not worked in SAP XI or BI and have a very little knowledge of XI.
Is SAP MDM Certification a good option to start with?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Karai,
As rightly mentioned by Deepankar, in additon I would like to mention that MDM certification will be right boost for you to start your career in MDM.
MDM is a tool which involves a lot of integration. There  have been many ABAPers shifting to this field as MDM is a hot cake right now. Myself being one of them.
You can always use ABAP Knowledge in MDM in the form of ABAP APi's.
XI skills is also an added advantage if you know it. However, you will genarally always have XI consultant supporting you in a project.

  • Sap career advancement

    Hi,
I would like to seek some advice on which path should I take in sap. I was a web and application developer before being placed into sap basis. I am quite good in database administration, but little knowledge in servers and networks. I am unsure if this area is suitable for me or should I move to other area like BI, or erp functional modules ? what are the career advancement?
a little problem as I have no experience in erp before. please advise.
    thank you.
    regards,
    xinlin

    Hello,
    please answer these questions first:
    1) do you want ot be a developer or not? (technical or functional consultant)
    2) if technical - do you prefer to be the administrator (basis, solman etc.), developer (ABAP, WD, maybe BW etc.) or integrator (XI/ PI)
    3) for how many of the mentioned roles do you have any opportunity? I know what I want to do but my employer does not let me do the career shift easily (why would I get paid for junior project manager if I am getting paid for senior developer)
    4) what company do you work for (I mean field/ industry, not name)

  • SAP/Java Advice

Hello All experts, I am Java/J2EE Developer with 5 years of expience, looking for career shift to SAP.I am specifically interested in learning SAP modules involving Java so that I can leverage my existing skills. Looking for advice on what modules to choose and how to and where to start..
    Thanks in advance.
PS: i am new to SAP forums and started exploring all forums. If i am posting in the wrong place, please point me to right forum

Marcos and Sri.. Thanks for the prompt response
I am experienced in both web and enterprise Java. From your posts and what I found in my research,I see Web DynPro is a good module to start with and I see Web DynPro,being a web UI module, is a part of SAP EP.
I need further assistance with the following
    1. I need SAP access to practice Web DynPro.I wanna know how to setup Dev environment and where to get the software for educational/learning purpose..links will be helpful..
do I need to buy a remote SAP Netweaver server as well..Right pointers will be appreciated..
    2. When I checked teh SAP site, their training catalog mentions the following modules relating to Java.I am using these just as a ref. for what to learn. Seems like 3,4,5 below are more relevant to Java.Seems like Web DynPro is the first one to start coz I see it most prevalently appearing in job posts as well.
I am in Maryland,USA..I did not find any SAP labs near by in east coast.Being new, I am not sure whom to approach for training..googling does not help much .or in general do you suggest any training resources relating to the following SAP training catalog.
