  • Career Prospect for SAP IS OIL

    Hi Dear Community Members,
    I need your valuable suggestions and insight before I move on to the Oil & Gas Industry.
    I had a IT Degree and I am in the IT industry for 10 years. I am now planning to venture into the Oil & Gas Industry as this industry has an overall promising career & a job security. Therefore I had the initiative to take on the SAP IS OIL Module hoping to break into the O&G Industries, however I am unsure how SAP IS OIL has an overall impact to the Oil & Gas Sector, like :
    What is the current market share for Oil Companies using SAP Solutions and SAP IS Module?
    What are the career prospects for a SAP OIL Consultant? In terms of job stability and future career path
    What are the markets in the US, UK and Europe for SAP IS OIL? As I am planning to migrate there.
    I am looking forward to your kind advice and input. Thank you very much in advance.
    Cheers,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
    Overall if you want to be in SAP IS-Oil, one or more of the following skill is required:
    SAP PRA
    SAP JVA
    SAP PSA/PSE
    SAP Controlling
    SAP Finance
    Second: Its always good if you have process experience in Oil & Gas - Upstream, Downstream or Midstream comanies. If you have not then its desirable that you have some process experience as you will feel the need of it when you are learing the above module. Without knowing the modules it is a challenge.
    Third: Demand of IS- Oil is good and not bad however this is focussed in specific locations around the world like : US-Texas- Houston (Energy Hub), Canada, Middle east etc.
    Fourth: Considering the fact that oil prices are down now, it will probably take 6 months to 1 year time for the boom to come. so probably this is not same time to venture immediately but learning this for near futute might prove beneficial.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Integration Kit for SAP - Open SQL access to tables. List incomplete.

    After we install the BO integration kit for SAP and CR 2008 we were able to connect to SAP and open SAP Data Dictionnary tables (Open SQL access).
    I have a problem however:
    when I display the list of available tables, the is not showing all the tables in the SAP system. I believe it stops at some point.
    I see all tables with low letters or starting with /BIC...
    I have custom tables with names ranging from ZR1 to ZR5.
    Of these I only see tables up to ZR2*.
    My guess is :
    either that the table list displayed is limited to a certain mumber of tables
    or that there are some authorisations issues to be solved to view all tables (but the same SAP User sees all tables in SE11)
    or there is a table related setting in the Data dictionnary that makes some tables visible by CR and other not
    Thanks in advance for any answer.
    Claudio Ciardelli

    correct - it stops at one point because showing you more than 30.000 tables doesn't really help. Right click on your connection (server entry), select the menu options, there is an entry called Table name like. in your case enter Z% and hit F5 for a refresh and you will only get tables shown starting with Z

  • Career Advice for SAP BI veteran

    Hi SAP Community!
    I'm Mike. I had been an SAP consultant for about 13 years. The last 3 years, have not been working as SAP consultant.
    My experience:
    SAP Basis 5 years .
    SAP BPS 2 years.
    SAP BW / BI / BI-IP  6 years.
    I have never been a team leader. Always a consultant. a Doer.
    I am now in my late 30's. I would like to progress/ transition into a more suitable position.
    I have attained my PMP certification 2 years ago. But, as said, no management experience.
    In the last 3 years when I was out of the scene, I was doing all kinds of low wage jobs. It started with the financial crisis.
    Back then, not many projects were available. What made worse was SAP BI-IP had a replacement of sorts : BPC, BO and BI Accelerator.
    I had given up SAP BI for the last 3 years. Now, I want to be back into SAP line. Outside of SAP line, I feel like a loser.
    I am not sure if I should go for SAP BO training that would cost me a bomb as its again all the technical details to learn.
    I feel that I am too old to keep repeating learning technical things that keep changing. i have the ability to keep learning. I have proven this in my career. But I like to have a career using my SAP experience and use my PMP.
    I would like your kind advice how to make my next career move. What would you recommend me to do?
    Thanks for reading. Hope to hear from you.
    Best regards
      Michael

    Hello,
    I don´t have any special advice, since you´re much older and more experienced and I cannot tell how to put your skills into the best use. But.. if you would like to start with something new, "cutting edge", like BO a blog of mine could help. Check it here: /people/otto.gold/blog/2010/07/20/how-to-play-around-with-sap-and-crystal-reports-trial-versions-only Using the blog you should be able to recreate a training landscape (and it should not take you like weeks since you have "some" basis experience) and you can give it a try for free before you decide to go this way or not. If nothing else, I could spare you some money.
    Wish you all the needed luck,
    regards Otto

  • Do I need Management Data Warehouse for SAP on SQL?

    Hi experts,
      I am reading Jonathan Kehayias's wait statistics guide and I see he talk about Management Data Warehouse. Should I use Management Data Warehouse in SAP on SQL environment? I see many monitor objects are already implemented in DBACockpit.

    Hi Dennis,
    In case you have your SAP system on MSSQL, you can definitely use Management Data warehouse

  • Need the career suggestion for Java developer

    Dear all,
    I am a programmer with four years experience in webMethods integration. I am also good at Oracle PL/SQL, XML and Java.
    So, here is my question, shall I study for an ABAP certification and begin to look for an ABAP job? or, based on my background, I should try to get a Netweaver Java Certification and try to move to portal development or SAP XI?
    Regards,
    Mike

    hi mike,
    Its good u have such a good experience in webmethods and oracle/pl-sql and also java. i feel abap would be much better option to move on to.
    ABAP is sap custom language, and it would always be preferred more over everthing else, and apart from that certified abapers are still very few, while compare that with java, which is at peak in the job market,and flodded with java proffesionals.
    And as u have previous experience getting through abap certification wont be tough.Happy abap programing.......!!!!
    Best of luck

  • Please Help: Career Path for becoming a SQL DBA

    Hi All
    I am a Software developer with around 15 months of experience in .Net 2.0 and VSTO.
    I am currently working in a SQLServer 2000  project.
    I feel more interest to work with database than front end coding.
    Can anyone suggest what need to be done for the one to be a DBA.
    Could you please provide more details on the roles and responsibilities and the scope for career development on becoming a DBA.
    In what Timeline can i be a  DBA. After becoming a DBA what are the career options available. Please help me out in deciding my career
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sidharth

    On these days DBA is an abstract level word. DBA can be further classified to Development DBA , Production DBA , Data warehouse dba, ETL DBA , DB Architect DBA and even may be REPORTING DBA.  Each job has its own significance. Role for each dba may differ. Some time DBA perform multiple role in an organization (in my case i am doing Architecting / part time Production DBA  and Dev DBA role).
    In addition to Kalman suggestion, what you can do is , you can start from Virtual labs provided by Microsoft.  If you ask the timeline, its all depends. Hands on experience is the key.

  • Need suggestion for choosing Java development enviroment

    Hi Evereyone,
    I am new to Java Desktop Application.I need help on choosing proper Java technologies and development tool.
    We have an existing CLIENT/SERVER based distributed control system, which was developed in C++(Server side) and VB(Client GUI).Now we are think of migrating the system to Java platform.
    Here is the outline:
    We want to create web based application that will run on windows and linux (linux on embedded PC).
    The application should be able to support 10 100 users at once accessing/editing database.
    We will also need to create a communication server that will run on web server P.C. that will communicate tcpip to field panels/log to db, as well as allow web screens to send/receive commands with field panels etc.
    Could any one give me some suggestion about it?
    I am thinking of Using J2SE 5.0, including RMI, JDBC and Swing for GUI. As for field panels, may choose J2ME.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Thanks, zadok .
    Actually, I don't have the system requirements neither. All I know is the following outline:
    "We want to create web based application that will run on windows and linux (linux on embedded PC).
    The application should be able to support 10 100 users at once accessing/editing database.
    We will also need to create a communication server that will run on web server P.C. that will communicate tcpip to field panels/log to db, as well as allow web screens to send/receive commands with field panels etc."
    It is a interview question, which need me to do research and give some suggestions. What I want to know is to figure out what kind of Java technology is necessary for developing this system because I want to make sure I head to right direction.
    I know somehow it is hard to give suggestion based on this limited information.
    One more thing I was confusing is the server-side architecture.
    I need suggestion about sever side architecture:
    a. write a dedicated server-side program, which act
    as communication server to monitor and control field
    panel, also act as server-side applicaiton by using
    RMI to communicate with Client-side communication.
    b. choose a general web server architecture. Put
    everything in server side in Web Server, for example
    Tomcat AS container, implementing the Communication
    server as Web Service and the request from
    Client-side go to Web Server first, then dispatch to
    a proper web service.Why did you not include this information in the original question!
    Why don't you just use Tomcat?
    For your answer, "Why don't you just use Tomcat?", does it mean Tomcat without Web Service will be enough for this system development? Could you give me some detail about it?
    Thank you very much, zadok.

  • Is there any tutorial for SAP Java Backend Development?

    Hi everyone,
    I am following the "How To - Part 1: Build an Agentry based app from scratch connecting to a SAP ERP back-end" to learn Agentry by myself.
    There are some Java code when creating the Steplet, StepHandler and Bapi that I dont understand. I would like to know if there is any document or tutorial to learn how to write  such Java code. I already know the Agentry stuffs like fetch, step, etc.
    For example, why do we need the processResult or setParameter method? Why do we need JCO.Table? Where is the table "ET_FLT_SCHEDULE"
    public class FlightScheduleBapi extends AbstractFetchBAPI{
    public User user = null;
    public FlightScheduleBapi(User u, GregorianCalendar lu) throws Exception {
    super(u, lu);
    user = (User) u;
    @Override
    public ArrayList<SAPObject> processResults() throws Exception {
    ArrayList<SAPObject> spfliTab = new ArrayList<SAPObject>();
    JCO.Table _sTab = _tables.getTable("ET_FLT_SCHEDULE");
    int rows = _sTab.getNumRows();
    for(int i = 0; i<rows; i++)
    _sTab.setRow(i);
    FlightSchedule spfliLine = new FlightSchedule(_sTab);
    spfliTab.add(spfliLine);
      return spfliTab;
    @Override
    public void setParameters(SAPObject obj) throws Exception {
      super.setParameters(obj);
    try {
      } catch (Exception e) {
    user.rethrowException(e, true);
    Thank you very much.

    Anyone can help me out of this?
    I am looking for AbstractFetchBAPI but there is no information about it.
    I found JCO Client Connection and JCO getTable to access SAP tables. Can I use this way in Agentry App?
    Thanks.
