Career with BI/BW

Hi,
Sorry. This is a non general question.
I am presently in UK.
I have experience of 8+ years in other technologies & ERP. I wish to pursure career with BI/BW.
I am trying for an online course with dummy assignments to learn SAP BI/BW. My question is:-
Is it worth going for a training & looking for a job in this area?
Does it require experience to get a job in this line?
Do companies ask for certifications?
I am getting an online course from India @ 13k INR. Kindly advise if it is worth going for a career change.
Thanks,
Regards,

Hi Alok,
Thanks for all your very valuable inputs, thats been very helpful to me.
I do not have an experience with SAP. I have worked with a Microsoft ERP for 5+ yrs in functional & technical both plus 3+ yrs in other technologies as Sr. Engineer. Currently my role is more a functional being a Sr. Consultant.
I wish to switch over to SAP functional modules or SAP BI/BW. I do possess a good functional knowledge in almost all modules but not with SAP. But i do not know if this experience will really help with SAP.
Are there any good online courses available in this thread? If yes what will be the fees? (If anyone is aware...)
I know the fees at the authorized training centers for any functional module is very costly(i thnk arnd 1.5 - 2.5 lakhs).
But are the other institutes worth going for trainings?
Can a person without prior SAP experience directly go in for SAP certifications?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,

  • Be Careful With Apple Authorised Services in Russia

    Dear Society,
I have bad experience with contacting one of authorised services which is published in Apple web site. It is a company called "Service.OK" and situated in Zelenograd in particular. My MacBook Air 2,5 years old got to have a problem with a screen after few drops of wine leak inside from the vent area where black panel is situated and served for monitor and keyboard panels junction. I have not expected the problem with the laptop because the glass of wine feltdown far away from the place it is situated however it was lying upside down and closed. So drops still most probably go inside. After certain period of time I switched it on and started working. Suddenly the screen goes blue and later fade away. Next day I brougt it to the address where this "Service.OK" is situated for diagnosis.
In a week I got a call from the service where they offered to repair for about 7500 RUR in cleaning the oxidation that was caused by the wine. I gave my permit for this operation. After a week time I got a new call from the service and they informed me that they were unsuccsesful with reparing it and my laptop requires to change the whole screen panel. The price of it was 23000 RUR. This time I was angree that this company is not able to do right diagnosis and I do not know what to expect later even if changing the screen panel will be unsufficient for them. I asked them to stop any actions and return the laptop back to me. I promise to compensate thier effort for diagnosis though. The service said that I can pick up it after receiving sms notification.
13 days left and I got this sms notification. I was back from the business trip and came there in 5 days. And (what a surprise!!!) I got another display panel assembled to the keybord panel with my serial number. I am 100% sure that it is not mine from the scratches I had on the top/screen panel. I rejected to take it and called to
    (A) Service.OK contact number claiming that and
    (B) Apple support contact number desribing the problem.
    (A) Service.OK informed me that my laptop was not delivered to them. The company which is operating on the address where Service.OK is shown in Apple web-site is no longer their representative point. It is another company as far as I unvestigated. However I got
    (1) a receipt with Service.OK web address reference,
    (2) Service.OK web site contained an information about my laptop being received and reviewed and
    (3) Service.OK point shown on their web site is the same where I gave my laptop.
    (B) Apple support specialist Natalia was responsible to communicate with me about my claim. She promised to report about this problem to higher department responsible for servises authorisation in Apple. However I was really dissapointed that no actions toward Service.OK was made by Apple. It is still on the authorised services list on the same address where I gave my laptop. She can only sorry to me because Apple has no legal company in Russia to handle this situation and thier company is just for providing support.
So I have a situation that neither Apple nor Service.OK are not willing to take responsibility that my laptop does not received qualified diagnosis under Apple authorisation and additionally its parts were changed while this diagnosis.
I am now consulting with lawer in order to investigate opportunity to claim about this problem to either Service.OK or company that issued an official receipt (or even propably to Apple) in the court.
Thus I would like to underline following statements:
    - Be carefull with authorised service centers in Russia. Apple seems to do not care about what is going on there.
    - Never deal with point in Zelenograd and be careful with other Service.OK points.
    - Know your laptop serial numbers before giving it to diagnosis otherwise it is unable to prove own position.
I will be thankful if anybody from society had such problem in the past and may give any advice. Any opinions are welcome.
    Thanks
    Dimitri

You need Admin access to install and setup iCloud correctly.
Download the installer, rightclick on it and select Runs as Administrator and supply an Admin login when asked.
Well you would if you were running Windows, which I see you are not ........

  • Okay my phone was working just fine and I locked it and went to unlock it and now it just sits on the black screen it wont even show the lock screen I dont know what to do but I am very careful with my phone anyone know how to fix it? Plz and thank you!

Okay my phone was working just fine and I went to unlock it and it wont show the lock screen it just remains black please if anyone can help me fix it it will be much appreciated, I am very careful with my phone so I dont know why its acting like this.

I'm glad to hear that they replaced your phone. Any experience I have had with Apple customer service and/or Genius bar has been extremely positive. While I have had positive outcomes from trouble with other phones in the past, they are not as quick and  friendly. I had a Motorola phone and a Samsung phone go bad several years ago and warranty work through AT&T required that I wait for a replacement unit and then mail back the original unit to keep from being charged for the device. This usually meant almost a week without a phone. Nice to walk into Apple and walk out with a replacement device. Enjoy your phone.

  • My macbook is less than a year old. I am very careful with it, but it has developed a crack on the top lid. Is this covered by the regular warranty?

My macbook is less than a year old. I am very careful with it, but it has developed a crack on the top lid. Is this covered by the regular warranty?
    Jo

I had a MacBook which cracked several times over the three years I had it.  Each time it was repaired under warranty without quibble.
I had to use Windows XP quite a lot, and though I can't be certain I think that the excessive heat generated by XP was partly to blame for the repeated cracking.  There's no doubt that OS X is "cool" in every sense of the word!

  • !!!! BE CAREFUL WITH INSTALLING THE MSI UTILITY PROGRAM LOCKFILE

!!!! BE CAREFUL WITH INSTALLING THE MSI UTILITY PROGRAM      LOCKFILE     !!!!!!
I have a KT3 Ultra URA mobo + AMD XP 1800 + W2k dutch version + SP2. With the mobo I received a MSI CD with utilities.  I became a major problem installing the MSI Lockfile program: after restarting the PC it started with initialising W2k, but on a certain moment initialisation stopped and I received the message: Error in User interface; Cannot load DLL-file ginamsi.dll (aanmeldgebruikersinterface = dutch, english:  ?? log in user interface ??). Repair the original file.
I tried to repair with booting from the W2k CD, repair section. That had no result.
With starting in safe mode (as member Hardwareman suggested) I also had big problems (didn't start up W2k).  After leaving the computer 2 day rest I succeded starting in safe mode. File search learned, that the ginamsi.dll is part of the MSI Lockfile program.  After uninstalling the program the computer started as usual.
Summary:  The program  MSI Lockfile can be dangerous.  You'll find it on the MSI Utilities CD, that came with de motherboard (in my case: KT3 Ultra ARU), chapter MSI Utilities.  So be very careful and aware of troubles to install that program!!!
    Jan_Ko

hey Jan_Ko I think what the dutch phrase is saying is it failed to intialize a required interface (I don't speak dutch but I speak German and it's pretty similar (not trying to imply anything or be insulting, I actually think nederlands is a cool langauge) but of course I could be wrong about the translation, hopfully Bas will get back to us on this.

  • Be careful with depends!! (PHP & DB stuff)

I've installed PHP-4.3.1-3 that depends on DB-4.1 the problem is that my version of DB was 4.0 so pacman asume that there was no error.
RESULT: PHP won't start, neither apache.
Solution: Refresh package database, update DB...
Best Solution: be careful with depends inside the PKGBUILD of PHP and specify the version number of the required stuff.
    greets!!,

feel free to point out any such oldepends or missing depends. Xentac and myself take care of the unofficial and unstable tree and i know there are a few [packages that need the depends fixed or even any depends at all. i try to get to such packages when i can but if someone points them out they will be fixed much faster.:)

  • Careful with syslinux latest update (6.01-2)

    Hello everyone,
just to warn you: be careful with latest syslinux, i had an error after rebooting with latest syslinux "Cannot load menu.c32".
While /boot/syslinux/ contained all symlinks to c32 files, it just doesn't want it.
I just copied menu.c32 from /usr/lib/syslinux/bios/ and tried again but then it failed on another lib-utils.c32 or something like that.
    So, I had to cp /usr/lib/syslinux/bios/* /boot/syslinux/
    It then worked fine.
I hope it will help some of you.

I did post to the ML yesterday https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 33762.html , the issue actually was even worse with syslinux 6.01-1.
The answer (for bios setup) I got was https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 33763.html
Thomas Bächler wrote:The install script needs an update. Just remove the .c32 and 'ln -s /usr/lib/syslinux/bios/*.c32 .'
(I've added the quotes so that people won't miss the dot at the end of the command)
I asked for someone to post info about this issue to arch-dev-public https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 33766.html but nothing has been posted so far :-(

  • How to: IT Virtualization career with VMware as rock-solid foundation

    Hello all,
I'm considering exactly what the title says. I've spent the better part of the past month reading/watching about the topic. I mainly researched the VMware product line (really, an ecosystem), along with Certification paths. I'm leaning towards the main DCV dish, with a side of CMA as needs come by. I am now building some sort of 'plan' for myself, contemplating the next 2-5 years or so with a VCP6-DCV goal in mind. There are a number of questions I need to ask to the actual pros, though. (highlighted in bold for anyone wishing to skip the following wall of text)
First of all, I'm heavily questionning my background. I wish it were enough to dive deep into vSphere right now, but is it? I mean, beyond VCA... I like to think "I can do this, I'm good admin material, I know it", but would an employer see it through the same lens? Probably not. My question is, would you hire ─ at the bottom of the IT/VMware ladder of course ─ this individual? Here's a quick, honest-to-god profile (please skip if you wish as none of this italic part speaks of VMware).
I'm 32, male, I live in France (but plan to move abroad to a more dynamic region, in terms of technology and the economy in general).
My 'official' pro background in IT is fairly limited ─ back in 2005 I trained & worked (at the same time) for about a year and a half on general admin/network. So, mostly windows 2000-2003-XP, general IT concepts; we had an HQ with about 30 users and 30 distant sites (car rental company present all over Paris), everything VNC'ed to the server room which hosted a dozen Dell Edge something (distant profiles etc.). Applications such as MS Office or credit card payments (Wynid) were served virtually through Citrix, and I had the opportunity to even run it at home in my lab to learn. It was back in 2005, but the basic concepts of networking, directory management or virtualization seem pretty clear to me, even as of 2015.
At that time I was young. Well, younger, at least. When I realized that what needed fixing weren't really the computers but the users (j/k... or am I?), I cut short my IT experience and did other, unrelated jobs, even spending some time back at the university to learn law and a bit of sociology (political theory, social interactions, things like that). Enriching, and I can use all of this to fuel my vision of technology, but now I want back in IT as a professional. It's an obvious vocation I've been ignoring for too long.
Ever since my teens, I've been dabbling in computers.
Learned Dreaweaver 3 with a bible in just over 3 months and made my first website back in 2000.
Since 2005 I've always had a windows server at home ─ it seems like it's not really my home unless it's a domain. I've been sharing coffee daily with ADDS ever since.
I like starting from scratch, designing and building entirely new IT systems (my home is my lab) every other year.
All my hobbies, at some point, got "computerized". For instance I learned everything I could about metadata for media/content files, from the Dublin Core principles to real-world popular DBs schemas (MusicBrainz notably) passing by actual implementations on my system, just because I need my music and video files to be properly sorted and browsed "smartly", you know... Also built a few home audio/video studios setups for friends...
Many people around me come to me for advice on technology, of any kind ─ I like science and tech, always reading up the latest and greatest, and apparently able to research what I have yet to know. I get good feedback on my advice, more often than not.
These are just a few examples of a trend in my life that says "I don't work in IT, but on a daily basis I spend a few hours, often having actual fun, with geeky-IT tasks, even just reading".
I'm extremely thorough by nature. Reading and carefully understanding, checking and applying a Best Practices whitepaper is often a paradoxical treat to me ─ it may be somewhat boring come page 14, but it's just beautiful when a system runs close to perfection, I often find a deep motivation for these ironing-out/optimization tasks. I'm also very practical, down to earth. I love ideas, I get my good share of it, but ultimately what matters to me are actual results ─ though I never rush things unless I have to, I'm infinitely patient with a project. I spend hours designing, testing (seeking real-world proofs-of-concept) so I don't mess up in actual production. I like things neat, sober and efficient, from variables to comments and names passing by external documentation ─ which I highly value, probably stems from my research-oriented mind. I do document my home setups to some degree!
Do these things matter? Do they help me, along with these certifications, or is my professional IT inexperience, at 32, the end of that road?
From what I've read, I'm fairly confident that with the right self-traning, hands on, I have a shot at VCA6-DCV. Practical questions:
I can get a good book, I can get online training, I probably can build a decent lab for virtualization at home. But how can I get hands-on with the software?
Evaluation doesn't seem like an option since it's limited in time.
Unless, maybe, one can get several trials as long as everything is freshly reinstalled. Being a lab we obviously don't care to break everything every 60 days or so, but does it work like this with VMware trials?
Is there any way I can run a non-productive fully-featured VMware ecosystem at home, just for the sake of training? (note: I'm willing to pay for that right, just can't or rather won't afford $2000 licences of course, I'd rather spend that on training classes)
I've discovered the fabulous VMware Hands-on Lab.
    Is it really free, unlimited?
If yes, I suppose that's the recommended way to get hands-on VMware products?
Should it be the only way, how can I verify that my practices are good in the long run (days, months, years...) if I can't run the systems for more than a few hours? My understanding of IT is that making things work at first is only the prologue to a long day-to-day care and management of systems and apps, and I wouldn't want to miss that kind of understanding with mission-critical infrastructure such as virtualization. Seems like the mother of all critical-to-monitor and analyze/report/optimize etc. That doesn't happen in a few hours. I find myself puzzled by that apparent contradiction between training and real work.
Now, let's assume I pass my VCA6. Then what? How do I go from there to VCPx?
With my rather unconventional background, as seen from IT, can I land a level 1 vmware admin job if I get a VCA6-DCV? (I'm doubting, thus also considering maybe VCA6-CMA as well, to demonstrate *more* motivation and skills). I mean, are these VCA's even remotely enough, or should I brush up, say, on my Windows server/system admin and get a basic certification there before I aim at VCPx VMware certifs?
Assuming I manage, eventually, to have a job involving VMware datacenter products (ESXi cluster, vSphere, vCenter etc.), I understand that 2-5 years worth of pro experience are recommended to consider VCP-DCV. I assume a motivated individual, training at home on top of work, getting involved socially with the community and so on, would probably fall in the lower end of that range. From your experience, is being hands-on at work 'enough' to truly understand and master (read: work skillfully with) VMware products? (again, with VCP in sight) I'm asking since, more often that not, you don't touch critical settings, unless you absolutely have to, in a prod environment (for instance, if my company, back in 2005, hadn't allowed me to run citrix at home for a few months for training's sake, I just wouldn't have gotten my hands dirty enough with it to be able to administer it, later on this job). Which leads us back to my previous questions about hands-on in a lab environment. Which lab, where, and how?
And importanly enough, about how much would it cost me, overall, from VCA to VCP, including one mandatory class, and the necessary long-term hands-on training?
Sorry for such a long post but I wanted to hear back from the community with enough understanding of my situation. Please be frank and don't hold back, I need to hear the truth about my chances at this, and the sooner I realize how to proceed, the better. Currently, I'm beginning to train on ESXi and vCenter Server (awesome products, btw!) Any help in reaching my VCP endgame will be greatly appreciated, so thank you in advance for any light you might shed on my path.
PS: I apologize for any english mistake, it's not my mother tongue.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I think I do hear you. Assuming I can clear that first step you suggest (get a job supporting a company IT infrastructure, probably at the desktop), then I need to ramp up towards servers and eventually, it's somehow up to me to either help bring VMware to that company, or join another one where VMware is already present. And, as usual in business, ROI/TOC is the sinews of war. I suppose VMware, as a global IT leader, is somehow built on that premise. All of this makes a lot of sense to me. I think it will help me when making future choices. Very practical ideas are already popping up in my head.
I think, for now, I'll focus on
getting that first job in IT infrastructure,
while training for my VCA at home.
Then see from there. Regardless of my job, I can probably keep on self-training towards VCP ─ it never hurts to learn, and ultimately it may help me make the best out of a required class  training.
Just a follow-up question, specifically about VMware and security. I'm digging this way because, thinking of your suggestions, here's one aspect of IT in particular that seems a very good bet to me. Here's the context in France (and several european countries):
Studies show that small and medium-sized french businesses (SMBs, up to 250 employees) have mostly missed the digital revolution of the last decade or so. The root causes go deep, as there are about 100,000 IT jobs available in France because of a lack of skilled workers, and the general population shows very poor technological culture overall. Thus, there's a lot to do in the backend to ease that necessary transition (cue for newcomers like me, willing to enter this market, I suppose).
More specifically, there is a huge need for security, which is, too often here, nowhere near acceptable standards. It would be easy to blame IT departments, but they in turn blame their CEOs for not understanding the issue ─ whose main reasons for negliging security are often misconstrued or outdated perceptions: increased cost, tediousness of the end-user experience; but more often than not, it's just blatant unawareness of the risks.
I think VMware delivers very good solutions to this issue.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that virtualization brings a layer of abstraction that makes it inherently superior, from a security perspective, to physical equivalents. And I think it's obvious the end-user experience, should it be different, is better virtualized than not. Therefore ─ you see where I'm going with this: if I had to show a company how VMware is interesting, not only for saving costs or ease of management/deployment, but above all in terms of security, what would be the main selling points, specifically? Also when training myself, which products, which specific designs or implementations or features, in the vast VMware ecosystem, are key to security if I want to bring that to my company? I'd like to have my eyes on that from the beginning. Basically knowing what to say when, one fine day, a manager/recruiter asks me: "how would using VMware be better for our security?" or "how will sponsoring you for VCP-DCV help us in this regard"? (again, rather from a small or medium-sized business perspective)
I'm thinking SSO, vShield and vSECR from the top of my head, but I confess the whole set of VMware server products and features is still a bit overwhelming to me. Obviously I'll do the bulk of research myself, I just need a few pointers.
Thanks again for the inspiration and support!

  • Be careful with App Store and multiple boot drives.

I just had a strange thing occur.  I was fighting with a Messages server problem as described here : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4322859?start=0&tstart=0 and was alternating back and forth between an upgraded boot drive, where Messages was not working, and a fully functioning backup boot drive.  Two physically separate disks on the same system.
A solution to the problem above was to manually delete Server.app from the boot drive, reboot, and reinstall Server.app from App Store.
Working on the non working (Messages Server) upgraded drive which was the boot disk, I removed Server.app and rebooted.  There is now no Server.app on this drive.
Log in to App Store and ask for install of Server software.  Did not receive a drive selection request.  Assumed install would be on boot disk.
    Reboot.
App Store had upgraded my backup drive to the new Server.app.  The boot drive still did not have Server.app on it.
    I now have no backup.
    Be careful.

The issue seems not only for TweetDeck but also for other applications and functions. For example, I tried to buy and install the following Mac app, but actually nothing happened after I clicked the BUY APP button.

  • Oracle career with unix scripting?

    hi
iam working in a reputed mnc with CMMi level 5 .started as fresher (BE I.T) i have around 1.6 years of experiance in unix scripting/oracle sql production support.
with learning of sql and shell scripting
i want to make my career in oracle which should be more dynamic, learning and creative not like in production support which have monotonus life.
could anyone please guide me about what career path i should choose ?
DBA , i have heard is montonous job too with same routine backups,no creativity with nightshifts and all, but it is more stable as people said. I have no experiance of it.
second devolper track in sql/pl sql having its own limitations like less demand, less financial growth etc. and people usually wants to shift in other area like BO
i don`t have any info about others areas like that i would like to explore
    1)Datawarehousing
    2)Oracle apps
    3)Business objects (BO reporting)
    4)Oracle CRM etc
5)Others (thats all i know, please add some others if they are creative )
iam really confsused now which way to chosse. and how to jump in other company on wat basis?
preparing for OCA right now but uncertain for career.
Seeking good help from forum experts.

"with learning of sql and shell scripting"
Ah, very good move, so you must pick my tool, it is all about managing Oracle DB through Korn shell http://www.smenu.org.
As of your question, the answer is in your mood and preference.
Oracle DBA: Definitely more money, less opportunity. the job is dwindling somehow due to Grid automation and budget restriction.
It is not that you don't need DBA, but manager thinks they can do without and don't (try) replace them. Pressure on DBA is a myth: more work = more money = happy DBA until wife run away.
Developer : Definitely less money, not necessary more opportunity unless you have java EE. no shift but more pressure: Projects are always in late, usually in the development area, not in the infrastructure.
One funny thing I noticed during these last 15 years, is that DBA have usually more children than others people (unix sys admin or Dev). Probably related to better earning.
DBA can be boring or passionate depending on your own knowledge, most of others DBA I know are still in the job, only one is now JAVA EE guy.

  • Wanting career with Oracle9i (OCP)

I’m a graduate in the year ’97 & just completed OCP (Oracle9i). My present working area based with MS Office only.
I want a career where I can use my OCP knowledge.
Is it possible with these qualifications or do I join any other course for better prospect ?
    Looking for your suggestions.

    San ,
First , accept the congratulations for completing OCP 9i. Your next immediate step should be to cover up 10g and 11g both also as they are both the most current versions. You can clear the combined exam for direct 9i to 11g with this following exam.
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_055
The next step should now be to get some place where you can apply your knowledge and cover teh gaps. If you can get a junior dba post, nothing like that. Otherwise, for the time being, get a job of a trainer inthe same field. This will give you two things, one it will give you a place where you would apply you skill. Second, itwill let you interact with others and would let you clear most of the doubts of yours. In the meanwhile , keep looking for a post in the database field.
One last thing, get your self acquintted with the knowledge of some operating system. Oracle has a course which can be very useful for you for the same, Oracle 10g Managing oracle on Linux(046). Biut for this, you need to be 10g OCP first. In any case, you need to update yourself ith some other o/s except Windows.
    All the best!

  • Career with HANA

    Hi Friends,
I am an ABAP Developer and I have just completed my Training in HANA and I am working on my Certification. Is it good for me to have knoweldge with BW/BI and BO. With BO I am now done my training with the reporting on HANA. Kindly input your thoughts and suggestions.  How should I take my route to be an efficient person in HANA. I have never worked hands on with BW/BI. So need thoughts from experts. Is ter any good book to self start on BW/BI ? If yes then do provide me the details

    Hello Radhika,
First of all  you are on the correct track.
ABAP composed with HANA is already so much to learn and work with. SAP BW will be required when in project where SAP BW on HANA is required. Even for BO on HANA is required.
Generally the correct route is considered as
    BI/BW=> BO=> HANA
But as you have covered ABAP and finished off learning HANA, the route has been a changed one for you. But still learning BI/BW will be a good approach even though may not be so necessary at the moment. I believe you have not worked with HANA either as you mentioned not with BI/BW yet.
So correct approach can be  get started with HANA developments and spend enough time and capture the concepts. As ABAP is there with you, developments in HANA will somewhat will be easy to master. So as the journey progresses you can add  flavours of SAP BW alongside your working on various projects.
So far as BW materials are concerned,  I have all my certification materials which  I have no issues to share with you. Click my name and click follow tab here in SCN so as to send direct messages. We may share contact Ids to make it possible.
Hope the piece of information helps !!
    regards,
    Aparajit
