Carrier Firmware Updates

I know this has probably been answered a thousand times already, but I have been unable to locate any threads which specify exactly what I need to know as of yet.
I have a Nokia95 (I don't know if it's a 1, 2 or 3. I hadn't heard heard of that until I came on here for help) and would like to update the software as I'm am so sick of the memory problems in regards to applications and such that my phone has.
I have no warranty on my phone as it's 'water damaged' according to my carrier, although when taken to another store they've looked at it and marvelled at the excellent condition with no water damage that it's in -- I don't know who's lying. Though that is not my issue.
My phone carrier (Three/Hutchinson - Australia) has newer updates of the firmware but due to this water damage they have told me that Nokia will not allow them to update the software on my phone in case something goes wrong, even though I am prefectly willing to take that risk. They have told me twice now, ignoring my protests through trying it before, that if I update it at home it won't give me the option to choose the firmware that is compatible with my carrier in a drop down menu -- they've done it thousands of times they tell me.
I've installed and uninstalled the Nokia Software Updater too many times to count now, and I never get a drop down box. The updater is more than happy to update my phone with the latest software, but what I'd like to know is will this version be compatible with my carrier.
I have already once updated it to the latest software after being told that it would be compatible only to find that it wasn't and have had to get it fixed at a phone repairing place that my carrier does not support - because they refuse to help me due to my water damage.
If anyone could help, it would be absolutely awesome, and I'd be extremely thankful.

did you have a micro sd card
if so look at folder called OTHER you will find your CONTACTS there
or a copy of your sd card on the PC
copy the file back to folder other on the phone easy eh
may be you have more than on sd card check the othere for the other folder
nokia does not keep contacts in the contacts folder that would be too easy lol
also there is a folder called private you may find you sms in that but i cant remeber off my head which file

  • Firmware update from my carrier (Cosmote)

    Hi,
When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, I have a message which asks me if i want to install on my iPhone a new firmware update from my carrier (which is COSMOTE - Greece).
I would like to know what does this update, I am afraid it could block free internet tethering or Skype calls through 3G networks.
I have another question: is it possible to permanently disable firmware updates in iTunes? (Because one day I could make a mistake and click on “Yes”)
    Thanks,
    Eric

There is no Apple supported method to downgrade.

  • Australian N85 users wanting a Firmware update to ...

    Hi there,
As an Australian N85 user on a Virgin Mobile branded handset, I thought I'd share my recent experiences. Both phones were purchased from Telechoice under a Virgin Mobile contract.
    I received a Virgin branded N85 (product code 0575031)
My wife received an Optus branded N85 (product code 0576341)
The Optus branded N85 had the dreaded SMS contact names appearing as numbers, and the only fix at the time (about 5 months ago) was to replace the Optus firmware with Generic firmware. As many users know, depending on the Nokia Care Centre, this isn't as easy as it sounds - see this link for details:
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=126312#M126312
Anyway, since my wifes phone was updated with Generic firmware, she received V11 & V20 updates within weeks of their release. My handset, however, took an extra 8 weeks for V11 to be released, and as of today still has not had the V20 update released (I just checked at http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-upda...).
I spent the past 4 weeks with Virgin Customer Support trying to get a date of release out of them, and all I would get is it's in Beta test, and would be released soon. I explained that generic handset had received the V20 release already, but it fell on deaf ears. I finally got fed up with the support staff, and rang the Australian Telecommunications Ombudsman and filed a complaint. I cited that Virgin were withholding product updates that rectify some of the handsets faults, and the gentlemen that I spoke to gave me a reference number and a Customer Relations phone number.
I spent another week getting the same **bleep** out of Customer Relations, until I was finally put in to contact with a Supervisor. He advised that the Virgin branded handset would no longer get any updates, and that I'd been given inaccurate information.I asked him if he thought that it was fair that product updates that fix handset problems be withheld from customers, and he said that he did not think it was right but he was powerless to do anything. So he suggested that I go to a Nokia Care Centre and get the Generic firmware installed, as the handsets weren't locked to Virgin. He also sent me a letter in the event that the Nokia Care Centre wouldn't oblige, stating that Virgin recommended that the update be applied and that all warranties would remain in place if the handset were to be updated.
So I went to the Care Centre, explained the issue to them, and they were happy to update the handset to the Generic firmware (they didn't even want to see the letter from Virgin). The only thing is that they installed the Generic V11 firmware, but I was able to immediately update to the V20 firmware OTA (or via NSU if I wanted to).
So, for any Virgin/Optus customers waiting for V20 (and you know that V30 for the N85 has just been released...), I'd advise that you don't waste too much more time waiting, as it may never actually get pushed to your product code. Switch over to Generic legitimately via a Nokia Care Centre, and enjoy timely firmware updates (well, as timely as Nokia releases them, at least you don't have to wait for a Carrier to approve it!!!).
    Cheers,
    travla
If you found this post helpful, please click on the green "Kudos!" star. Cheers!

operators have always branded their phones Scanorama. its just that some handsets escape the radar and start to brand their handsets. we were lucky here in Australia that they didn't decide to brand the N78, though i also can see that it wasn't promoted that heavily either, hence only Virgin, Optus and Vodafone got the handsets, and not as many operators as i would have thought.
to buy generic handsets, that's a bit tough as i'm not sure if Australia has an online Nokia Store. but i guess buying here would be a matter of say going to a Vodafone shop for example, and checking that the phone doesn't come with Vodafone packaging, check a demonstration model of the handset itself to see it doesn't have custom firmware/Vodafone wallpapers/junk all over it. most cases it is pretty easy to tell if it is branded, since it does have that junk all over it, and on the startup/shutdown screens. a lot of the people count out the eBay method of buying phones, but i actually bought my N78 off eBay. when buying, you just have to be careful that it is a genuine handset, has the appropriate receipts (mine had a receipt from the Vodafone store)/genunine IMEI as mine did. with a little vigilance, you can easily identify the genuine handsets and get yourself a good deal. as with mine, i ended up getting mine for half the RRP Vodafone and Optus were selling the N78 for
please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • PRS-T1 Firmware update request

    Good afternoon.
I recently (about a month ago) bougth two PRS-T1 readers (one as a gift) and I was very happy. I wanted a reader since I first knew of them and a T1 since it came out. I got a job as an intern engineer for the summer and saved to finally buy my gadget of dreams. I actually wanted to wait a little to see if a promotion came up because I lost the "free Harry Potter book combo", but I wanted to use the Reader for my school books and when the "almost free cover" promotion came up I inmediately ordered it.
Fast-forward a few weeks and I'm more than satisfied with my reader. Tablets are very common now, but everyone that sees the e-Ink screen working is thrown back in amazement. I carry it with me at all times (I hold it under my arm because I know keeping it in a bag has the risk of braking the screen) and my reading rate has improved vastly.
I've had the chance to find some areas of improvement on the Reader in the few weeks that I've had it with me and some of those were: being able to post in Facebook my reading status and maybe cite a phrase; and a native Evernote app, because while using the mobile site with the browser to view notes is actually neat, navigation and finding notes isn't, and neither is creating new notes. I supposed these were just remote dreams, knowing that just because you hope for, it doesn't mean a company will implement those features.
Well, imagine my surprise. New reader (it looks very similar to the T2 so no regrets there) with specifically the two functions I spent a month thinking would be great to have. Maybe they were so obvious it was inevitable, but still. Additionally, it seems too soon to drop support of the T1 after less than a year into its lifecycle.
So this is my request to Sony from a true fanboy: Please release a firmware update for the PRS-T1 to add the Facebook and Evernote features. I'd also suggest to remove the Google Books button and change it for one of the above or even a Wikipedia dedicated button, since I discovered that using the Reader is the best device for hours-long Wiki reading sessions.
Please consider my humble request. Maybe it turns out to be very easy to get done. Maybe not. Either way I'll keep enjoying the best e-reading experience with the best e-reader in the market and for that I'm very thankful.

    Hello Rarsiii,
Welcome to the Users Discussion Forum. We will forward this to our Reader team and thank you very much for sharing your thoughts.

  • Timescale for firmware updates Lumia 520 ?

Can anyone explain why there is such a varience in which the same update gets released either from a phone supplier or Nokia.
For example I am with O2 in the UK. I asked about the Amber upgrade and the replies varied from "what is that I've never heard of it" to " We are not imformed of release dates so do not know" to a straight "no idea". to " keep checking in settings-phone-update"
AT & T have been selling the Lumia 520 for some time and their version has  Windows Phone 8 build 10327 (GDR2) and Nokia’s Amber firmware update already on board.
I can not see Amber for example being different in USA and UK or Swaziland for the same phone.
    So why such a delay
    A very impatient
    Keith
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There is a difference between a sim, free (factory unlocked/unbranded) device and a carrier released version.
your challenge with updates when you have a carrier branded device is that the carrier usually has very few updates to devices. And, their firmware versions are different, which include bloatware.
it is either software they are paid to put in devices, or their own renditions of billing, WiFi calling, mapping, etc stuff. So, before they do any updates of firmware and push it out, they have to do their own version of QC whereas factory unlocked devices get updates when ever the phone manufacturer releases them, which is usually more often.
even,if you get your device unlocked, it will still require that the carrier push the update. So the care reps are usually going to very uninformed unless they truly are involved in the tech side and have genuine interest to learn more. From a corporate perspective, they usually are scripted and clueless, which for the companies sake helps them not to create anymore confusion with the customer base then already is there.
as for the varients of,different countries, good to think about the regulations each country has, as well as some of the functionality of the device. Some countries don't have 3 or 4g service, or MMS is different, or there are frequency differences or regulations on what can be done. This goes far more deeper than just having the language available.
    hope that helps

  • Advice needed on firmware update-

Hi everyone… I have successfully replaced the HD on my kid’s imac G3 [yay!] but the [secondhand] disk is running a very old version of OS X [10.0.4, I think…]. Can anyone let me know if I need to carry out any firmware updates before installing Tiger? I’d be so grateful for your advice… many thanks!

    Hello,
If you need firmware updates, then you'll have to re-install OS 9.1 (or 8.x or whatever version came with your system) to install the updates.
You cannot update the firmware from OS X on the older iMac G3 systems.
If you already have the latest firmware revision, then you may not need to worry about re-installing OS 9 to install the firmware updates at all.
Take a look at this discussion here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2707137&#2707137
That discussion will show you how to check the version of Firmware that you currently have.
This will help to determine if you already do have the latest version installed.
Keep in mind that the firmware revisions shown in this discussion relate to the iMac G3 333 MHz system.
If you have an iMac G3 350 MHz or faster (the ones with the slot-loading CD-ROM Drive), then your firmware revision numbers should be 4.19.
The firmware version / update for the slot-loading CD-ROM drive machines is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75130
For the older iMac 333 MHz or other iMacs with a tray-loading CD-ROM Drive, the update you would need is here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60384
Note, that you will need to re-install which-ever version of Mac OS that came with your computer to install these firmware updates.
But, if you find that you already have the latest firmware version for your computer, then you can skip re-installing OS 9 (or whatever came with your system) all-together.
If you cannot make sense out of the numbers you find when comparing them to the update, let me know what the numbers are that you find, and I'll see if I can help you out.
If you do re-install OS 9 or OS 8.6 (whichever is needed for your system's updates), then also consider getting the other updates for your system while you are at it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58174
You'll find updates for your modem, and CD-ROM drive there.
    I hope this helps.

  • Firmware Update for my blackberry 8830 world edition with Bell Canada

Hi does anyone know if there is firmware update for the Blackberry 8830 world edition with the carrier being Bell Canada?  I am running version 4.2 and I know there is 4.5 but I am not sure if this applies the my phone with Bell Canada. When I boot up my desktop manager and checks for updates and says that there is no update.  I don't want to update if it is not necessary and not be able to run my blackberry.  If I am able to update where would I go to get the 4.5 update?

You have to repair Desk Manager or unintall and reintall DM, but this time uncheck "Auto update" and anything that refer to "update" the reason why I mention that is because everythime you run DM, it goes online and check for newer version and put this file "vendor.xml" in the Blackberry Common Folder, and with that file in place, it will block the program from installing the newer version from a difference cell company..
From what I see 4.2 is the only version that is up to date for a 8830...but if you have a 8820, you can update to 4.5.

  • Lumia 830 Denim Firmware Update

I also want/need to know when this update will be provided. Not only does my 830 not support the advertised Lumia Camera 5  but there is a serious driver issue that prevents Netflix from playing media. I would love to recommend this phone to others but I cant with these issues.

If it helps any, there's a way to bypass the "carrier approval" from AT&T to get the Denim Firmware Update. It gets you caught up to the latest and greatest version of WP 8.1 (minus the GDR2 update only available for the Lumia 640 and 640XL), including Lumia Camera 5.  It's called the Developer's Preview not to be confused with Insider Preview (which is for Windows 10 and unstable). I have it on my Lumia 1020 and I have the latest software/firmware available for the phone. You can follow the instructions here.  It requires a little bit of work and some time to update (usually 2-3 times to get up to date). If you don't mind signing up to be a developer (for free) and being phoneless for a couple of hours, this is the best way to get all the features of Denim without waiting for AT&T to issue it. And not to disagree with you about AT&T failing to update the phone in a timely matter (they totally should), but Verizon is FAR worse than AT&T could ever be. The Lumia Icon that came out last April hasn't even gotten the Cyan update (including WP 8.1). Good Luck! Ian

  • Lumia 830 Firmware update

I bought my phone when it was released back in November of 2014 when it was advertised as receiving the full 'Denim' firmware update.  I'm still waiting for this update!  It looks like every other carrier in the world that carries this phone has pushed out the update - when will AT&T? I'm getting tired of waiting.

    Hey there
I understand that this is a highly anticipated update!
At this time, we do not have information regarding a software update release for the Nokia Lumia 830. Once updates are released for a device, our Software Updates page is updated with the latest software information and installation instructions!
    I hope this helps!

  • Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2 / Thunderbolt: No hardware was found.

We purchased a 2012 27" iMac at work which I connected to a 23" cinema display via a MDP->DVI adapter. It worked for a while, but then stopped working 1 day. Thinking it was the monitor or the adapter, I connected a 27" cinema display with a direct MDP connection - still didn't work.
After doing the typical SMC/PRAM reset, I noticed that in System Information under thunderbolt it said "Thunderbolt:          No hardware was found." I also noticed that the App Store listed a Thunderbolt Firmware Update 1.2. So, I updated that, restarted, it flashed the progress bar for a second but didn't move before restarting again and booting. The firmware update was still listed in the app store.  I tried downloading the DMG for the update on the Apple Download site, install seemed to go well, but did not install.
Then I found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4579. I ran through that process (also reset SMC/PRAM again). Still no go. After calling Apple support, they recommended that I reinstall OS X. Still didn't work after that. I called back today, and apparently my only option is to carry it to the closest Apple Store, which is an hour and a half away (we have a closer authorized dealer, but they are closed until July 8th for some reason). I also asked if they could send a box so I could ship it and they said that wasn't an option.
Is there anything else I can do without having to wait until July 8? I am extremely disappointed with Apple right now, and I'm hoping I can get this resolved without having to run all over the place.

It sounds to me that you've gone through all the possibilities as regards software and that your iMac has a hardware issue. If so, then taking it to an Apple Store or authorized Apple service provider is going to be necessary.  Apple typically does not provide ship-in service when they have authorized service in your area. You'll either have to wait for the service center to re-open on the 8th or drive to the Apple Store.
    Regards.

  • 5800xm-FIRMWARE UPDATE-error!!!!

Hey ppl i've got a new 5800xm and one of my buddies also has the same. But he has a firmware v11.00 etc etc..
Whereas im havin the v10.00firmware....When i used the nokia soft. updater to check for the updates, It indicated that there was no firmware updates---"Please note that your mobile operatoror carrier may not have approved the latest nokia device firmware available"how can i update it????? Is ther any alternative for the firmware update?????...

If you got your phone from your operator, or it was part of a phone+SIM package, then there is a good chance that your phone has the operator's customised version of the phone software rather than the standard Nokia software. If this is the case, the operator reserves the right to approve software before Nokia is able to release it.

  • Problems after firmware update 52.0.007

    Hi,
I got my phone back after the shop fixed a problem and updated the firmware to the latest version 52.0.007.
But now I have following problems:
I can't get the calendar anymore to show up on the homescreen, even after checking the checkbox to do so
    The Radio app. is gone
Does anyone has a solution for this?
    Iwan

It may sound crazy but sometimes you need to "hard reset" device after firmware update (beware all data erased) by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself). Sometimes UDP = User Data Prersevation feature of 5800XM can carry over corrupt entries when updating.

  • Linksys Firmware Update Process Change

Linksys is starting to rollout firmware updates to router's that have the "Check for Firmware Update" or "Auto Firmware Update" features in a batch process.

    chadster766 wrote:
You know with my Galaxy S5 I have auto updates enabled. I like it but as soon as the first bad update occurs it will be turned off.Sure but w/ your Galaxy S5 (assuming a carrier one) you would be surprised at how difficult it is for Samsung to get the carriers to approve that update (LOTS of testing). Additionally, you at least get some sort of release notes. Nothing major. Final item, a Galaxy S5 is a single user device.  A Router supports "multiple single user devices".  So if a router dies from an update, that could impact 10+ Samsung WiFi clients.vs. just 1 phone that dies. To me, "scope of impact" and "release management" factor into these sort of decisions...Real world scenario: Someone is in the middle of NetFlix streaming a movie. If I update the router firmware and interrupt that, I might not live to post on these forums Just imagine what more "productive" situations could arise. For ,my phone, if I update it, no one is impacted but me.

  • Bluetooth Firmware Update 2.0.1

Installed the update after updating to 10.5.8.
Now computer will immediately wake after putting to Sleep from the Menu Bar and the Power button.
I figured out to turn Bluetooth OFF, which disconnects Wireless Keyboard, in order for computer to Sleep properly.
I've tried reseting the SMC, zapping the PRAM, and repairing Permissions before and after each updating. I even tried to re-install the Bluetooth update - which says software is up-to-date.
I hope this Firmware update situation doesn't carry-over when I soon update to Snow Leopard.
    Any suggestions appreciated...thanks!

Did not register for my 13" uMBP but this morning I have a new Bluetooth logo (white in a black oval) in my menu bar -- one that isn't listed in Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2702?viewlocale=en_US, that's just a month old.

I was wondering if anyone had an idea on when the 1308 firmware update will be pushed to Lumia 620s that are the Puerto Rico variant? I have an unlocked 620 from Puerto Rico and I would really like to enjoy the new features in that firmware update.

    hi mate,
Nokia has stated a few weeks ago that the update has begun rolling out and will take a number of weeks before it reaches particular countries / operators. if your device is being held up, then you may want to check with your network carrier if your phone is a branded handset.
