Carrier-Locked: What message does an iPhone display on a different SIM?

Apologies if this may be a basic question, but I don't have any other "active" SIM card to test out my carrier-locked iPhone 3GS. Has someone inserted another carrier SIM card (i.e. an ATT iPhone 3GS and inserted an active T-Mobile SIM card OR Rogers iPhone 3GS and inserted a Fido SIM card).
1. What message will the iPhone display? Will it say that SIM is not recognized and to insert an ATT SIM?
2. Will the iPhone not function at all? (Except for emergency 911 calls, I guess.)
Thanks. Just checking because I have an "inactive" SIM from an old GSM provider which I inserted into my iPhone 3GS and it didn't display any message. It obviously didn't acquire any signal, but I can carry on and use the iPhone's functions except to make calls of course.
I'm thinking that's because that old SIM card from another GSM provider is inactive. Perhaps it's a different case if it's still active?
Thanks for any info.

I guess no one tried to insert another carrier SIM as well.

Follow this article: iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service or No SIM
    Symptoms
In certain situations, iPhone may present one of the following symptoms:
"Invalid SIM" or "No SIM Card installed" alert appears intermittently.
Status bar displays "No SIM" when a SIM card is installed.
    Resolution
If you encounter any of the above symptoms on your iPhone, try these steps to attempt to resolve the issue:
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Check for a carrier settings update. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
Remove the SIM Card and verify that it is a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it is not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still are unable to resolve this issue, contact Apple support for further assistance.

My friend bought an iphone 5 with ios 6 installed and he was not told it was carrier locked. what can he do since he doesn't know the carrier?

    And there lies his problem.
As I said, call AppleCare and they will let him know which carrier it is locked with. Then he needs to contact that carrier and see what their unlocking process is and if he qualifies. If he doesn't he needs to return the iPhone and get his money back.

It appears that you have an iPhone that is locked to a carrier other than the one you were using. Now that you have tried to update the iOS, it has relocked. That is what happens if you are using a phone that has been hacked to unlock. You have also forfeited support from Apple and from this forum.

    I got the same message.
I bought an iPhone 5 at full retail price from an AT&T store. I requested the phone to be unlocked through their unlock portal. The AT&T unlock system asked for the IMEI number, a copy of my receipt showing that I bougth the phone at "No Commitment" price. A few hours later I received a message from AT&T stating that the unlock request was approved. I then followed the instructions to back up the phone and restore it through Itunes. The phone activates normally with the AT&T SIM card. But when I insert my VODAFONE SIM I get the massage "THE SIM CARD... etc.
I tried again to back up & restore the phone 3 or 4 times, no success. I have also allowed 24 hours for the unlock process to complete. Still no luck.
I have checked again on the AT&T Unlock Status portal and it shows "Unlock approved".
Where is the issue here? Do I have to call Apple or return the phone to AT&T and get the unlocked phone through the Apple Store?
Thanks for any help on this.

  • Why does my iPhone 4 have a different Model # than those on display at Appl

Why does my iPhone 4 have a different Model # than those on display at Apple?
I noticed while in my local Apple store today that their iPhone 4's have a higher Model # in their Settings --> About screen. When I compare mine vs. theirs, why is my Model # lower?
My biggest fear is that Apple will secretly correct the hardware issues on the iPhone 4 & screw over everyone who bought it early by not doing a recall since it would cost them an arm & a leg.
See screenshots of both units compared:
    http://yfrog.com/md88epx

They are basically batch numbers as posted by several forums other than Apple. One forum in Canada listed 8 batch numbers of iPhones residing in their country with the last code of "C/A". Mine is "LL" for some reason in the USA. I would have thought it would be "US" but there is probably a more detailed thread on this code choice by Apple.

What messages does it shows the integration engine(sycn/ asyn)?

    Status: TO_BE_DELIVERED
Which means that the message was successfully delivered from Integration Server point of view and it states that the messages is initially handed over to the Messaging System.
TO_BE_DELIVERED occurs while the message is put into the Messaging System receive queue.
    Solution:
This is done via the Messaging System receive servlet:
    http://<Host>:<PORT>/MessagingSystem/receive/<CONNECTION>
    /<PROTOCOL>
Only if this was executed successfully the Messaging System returns HTTP 200 to the Integration Server and the Status TO_BE_DELIVERED moves to DELIVERING

Most likely the phone is locked to a carrier that you haven't tried yet.

  • Does the Iphone 4s come with a sim card?

Does the IPhone 4S come with a sim card when purchased?

a sim card is a physical part of your carrier contact
apple is not a carrier so does not sell simcards or give them away
if you change carrier you change sim card
if you change phone and keep the carrier you move the sim card to the new phone

  • Carrier locked what to do

My friend got this iphone 5 and it is running on ios6 and he bought it second hand. when he bought it he wasn't told it was carrier locked. now he cannot finish the activation for the iphone and the seller will not answer. what can he do?

Only the cell carrier to whom the iPhone is locked can authorize unlocking. He will need to contact the carrier and ask if he would qualify for unlocking and if so their procedure. If he does not know the carrier, he can try calling Apple Support and giving them the serial number of the iPhone and they can probably tell him.
    Regards.

  • What encryption does the iphone 3gs/3g support?

There no mention of what WLAN encryption is supported.
Ie: WPA, WPA2, 64 bit WEP, or 128 bit WEP.
    What does the iphone support?

It definitely supports WPA2, because that's what I use on my home wi-fi network, and I'm not interested in anything less secure.
