Carrier type Path

Hi experts, just a fast doubt since i wanna create a DMS and have the option for others users in differents computers to display it.
I think i need carrier type front end, but my doubt is, like it said the thread, how i define the path.
Once i go to define carrier type--> frontend, i need to define a carrier type and a path.....how can i know which path is the correct, which path should i use?
as it is know, because some body else tried to configure it w.o succeed, the path is something like
10.27.1.18
something\sap_load
But i have no idea if the path is wrong or not. So i would love any tips to know how to define a carrier type path "front end" and if possible, for vault and archive.

Hi,
You may configure Vault without DVA to store documents in local machine filesystem. You many need to configure the following
1) Defined the Define data carrier type "server, front end" as PC.
2) Defined Define servers and files or folders as Server1
3) Defined Identify frontend computers as Default, PC
4) Defined Define mount points / logical drive as Data Carrier:Sever1, Type: PC, Prefix for Access path:_ network path for the server
For definition of access path you may choose any shared location for eg
<hostname>\<sharefolder name>
C:\<share foldername>
Objective is that DMS folder repository path should have full permission to read,write.

hi Kiran,
Data carrier is to achive communication between server and user front end. We can define one data carrier type along with path as default for all or seperate data carriers type for specific users in define data carrier in SPRO. This defined data carriers again we assign to application in defining network for workstation application in SPRO.
By using data carrier we can upload to & download originals from server. We can change and print the documents from server.

Carrier Type In DMS for content server

Dear All,
Can anyone help me in telling which carrier type i have to define in dc20 for Content server, if any required.
i have configured content server in Oac0,oact, csadmin, but while saving file on server (check in) it is giving me this error
Error while checking in and storing: Message no. 26253 .

This error usually comes beacuse of improper settings maintained in CSADMIN for repository:
Do few changes in CSADMIN Settings for repository:
ContentStorage Host : (Enter name instead of IP)
ContentStorageName : WCC
Storage : ContentStorage.dll
Security : 1
ContRepDescription : (Enter descreption as given in OAC0)
driver : LiveCache or MaxDB (Whatever you are using)
Incase of DB, maintain also
SAPDMSUser :
SAPDBPassword :
Please check after making these changes and revert.

Data Carriers and Data carrier type

Hi Sap Gurus,
Pls let me know is there any necesssity of defining any new Data Carrier types other than PC,
if so at what circumstances and requirements,
also pls throw some light about data Carriers, when is the new data carriers required to be created

rest of the 3 system have not installed Autocad, Can the system 2,3 and 4 edit the auto cad drawings in there system, does at this situations where Datacarries and Data carries types come in to picture,

as you have Explained,i assume it is mainly used to store a local copy or extra copy of the Original application files in the system which we use to View them, or if we feel to store the copy in any other system also.
Example Say there are 3 systems S1, S2 and S3
if we are viewing an original file in System S1 and want the same Copy to be stored in System S2 or S3.....
then this data carrier configuration is required if iam right?
But Sir apart from this funtionality can i also know the SAP definition purpose, as it defines data carrier type as below

How to define a data carrier type "archive" in DMS

Hi, experts.
In order to intgerate DMS and ArchiveLink(Check in origin with ArchiveLink), i want to define a data carrier type "archive" in DC20.
I have already defined a content repository 'Z2' in OAC0, but i can't enter 'Z2' into the field-data carrier,
error message: You cannot use data carrier Z2 - try displaying possible entries
Message no. V&021
and the only possible entries is 'MA'
which type content repository could be used as data carrier type 'archive",
or there are some steps that i missed?
Here are parameters of 'MA' and 'Z2':
MA ARCHLINK SAP System Database 0046 ma
Z2 ARCHLINK HTTP content server 0046 Test

i think iam also in the same confusion, any suggestion regarding this is eagerly welcome.
i have some specific senario in DMS where the Client needs to store the DMS Original Files in SAP Archive Server through SAP Archive ink,
here if i configure a part of Archive Server, so as to store the Original application files of DMS,
say ZDMS_Arch01, ZDMS_Arch02, ZDMS_Arch03.
ie.. if i configure Archive server as a Storing medium for DMS Original Files, will it appear as an Option to be selected for storing the original application files,
just like as we get the list of storage catagories to store the Originals like DMS_C1_ST or any content server Storage catagory (clicking Check in original, in CV01N transaction
any one who have configured this please Clarify.

CFINDEX Using custom1 with type = "path"

The DOCS claim that you can use the 2 custom
fields(custom1,custom2) in CFINDEX with a file index.
Has anyone accomplished this and if so, how do you define the

Storing the client path of a file to be uploaded is not a
best practice.
The value of the "name" attribute of input type="file" can
pass the file name dynamically for just that purpose. You could
then, pass that value to the filefield attribute of cffile for
example.

Has nothing to do with it, Raghu, he's wrongfully using the concept autocommit. At the end he's bumping in the known but unresolved "Data got committed..." issue.
Glen, I too see this from time to time, and also have post on row change set.
Posting will never commit, until you hit the commit icon yourself. It applies the changes only in your session. It will simulate what would happen, so you can decide to commit to everyone or roll back the changes, just like you issue the update yourself through a worksheet.
If you have on-update triggers on that table (or triggered tables), navigation will of course slow down because of this. But it shouldn't if you don't have any changes inside the grid.

Type clipping path of a vector pattern

Trying to mask type with a vector pattern (place a vector pattern in a type clipping path), but nothing seems to be working. Never had issue before. Tried path in front, pattern in front, converting type path to compound path, converting vector to compound path. A couple of times it looked like it worked, but the pattern was invisible within the path. Illustrator CS6, on a Mac. Help is appreciated, thank you.

1 Keep the type live no rason to outline it.
2 place the pattern in the back (behind the text)
3 select both the patternand the text
4 Object>Clipping Mask>Make
If you outline the text
then after you outlined the text
1.while the text group is still selected go to Object Compund Path>Make (even though it already says it is a compound path tht actually refers to the individual letter forms)You need the whole group to be a compund path.
2 Make sure the pattern is behind the text and select both
3 Now make your clipping mask

This is with regard to creating a compound path:
I have set some white type on a circle and then created outlines. I then placed the outlined type on a black stroked ring which I then selected "outlined stroke." I then put both "outlined" graphical elements on a separate solid bkg. (all 3 are on the same layer). Lastly, I then selected the top two elements and went to "make" a "compound path" (because I want the type to be the "holes" so I can see through to the background). However, the only effect I get is the white outlined type turning black (the same color as the black ring). What am i doing wrong? I can achieve the desired result with simple boxes but it won't work with a circular type path, a stroked ring and a solid bkg.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I tried your suggestion with no success. BTW, minus front is now Subtract. Apparently, by clicking option>subtract, it works in the same way as minus front. I tried this to no avail.
Let me reiterate please.
I have 3 graphic elements-all on the same layer:
1. Background: Gold circle with a fill and no stroke.
2. Middle: Black ring (Stroked) inside gold background circle.
3. Top: White copy set on a circular type path and placed directly on top of middle black ring.
Both the middle black ring and top type path HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO OUTLINES.
LASTLY, I select the Middle and Top, go to Compound Paths and choose "Make" and my white copy turns to black. Wrong!
WHAT I WANT TO HAPPEN: I want the white copy to become HOLES, so the GOLD background shows through.
Any solutions would be very much appreciated!

DMS:Original file path overriding configuration ?

Hi,
Running 4.6c. We use vault method for originals. We have configured data carrier type "Server,frontend" -> PC and are maintaining a path as c:\ for the temporary files. We also have configured 'frontend computers' by putting in the entry as 'Default' data carrier.
Example: Using CV01N, one person Bob, creates a DIR - 100, checks in the original into the vault and saves the DIR. When another person Frank, using CV02N opens DIR - 100, tries to change the original, there is a pop-up with two fields: 1. Data Carrier (blank with a drop down option) and 2. Original: displays the full path of the first person's PC as C:\Document and Settings\Bob\SapWorkDir\<temp. file name>.
Issue-we get a 'ftp:subcommand local error' for Frank when trying to access the original. We also observed that sometime, it would actually create the path C:\Document and Settings\Bob\SapWorkDir\<temp. file name> for Frank on Frank's PC!!
Is the original overriding the configuration? Should it not create the temporary file in C:\ as we have configured in DC20?
Any help would be appreciated.

Appreciate your helpful input for my query. I tried setting up the profile and have a couple of questions:
1. Define profiles -> Determine definitions for applications. Is the 'Work Directory' the field to configure the path e.g C:\?
2. Since we have the vault configured, I assume that I use the vault value in the Define profiles -> Determine definitions for applications -> Storage Category
3. Define profile -> Determine definitions for applications -> Default values, does anything need to be checked. There are three attributes Display, Print and Display in WWW.
Would appreciate if you can clarify the above.

CV01N - create document with template - path length

Hi all,
i want to create a document from a template document with an original file.
A popup is displayed and i specify the new path for the new original file.
--> Error when copying from ... <directory>
Only 50 characters of the directory string are displayed in the message box???
Any ideas?

this way you can maintan the template for original file.
create new document, cleck on create original.
once you click it, there is a button create with template.
in dc20 ,click Define data carrier type "server, front end".
if you are not using content server , then say default entry.

DMS - FTP Docs to FileZilla/Server (Download to FTP server path)

Dear Experts,
I have a requirement to transfer files from SAP DMS to FTP Server (FileZilla/Global Scape).
How should I go ahead. I should be able to check out the document to FTP server path.
This should be done by the CV** transaction as well as a program.

Here is the solution for those who are having similar requirement.
If you are not using the Knowledge Provider for storing and checking in original application files you can only store original application files in a vault that is managed by DMS. In Customizing of Document Management you must therefore in this case not set the indicator Storage using the Knowledge Provider . You have made the required setting under Control data Define document types.
Prerequisites for the Vault without DVA
The following table shows the settings you must make to set up a vault without DVA. In Customizing for theDocument Management System , choose General Data Define Data Carriers.

Define vault (without specifying the DVA computer)

Path not working in win xp pro, can call java but not javac !

I just upgraded to win xp and set up the J2SDK. I have set the path variable in the environment settings.
when I tried to test this by typing java from my documents directory it works all right but not the javac command, to which it gives the error
"'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."
when I type path then I get the following result -
