Carrying website over to a new computer ...

I have been using iWeb to build a simple website and I need to know how to save and be able to get back my already created pages once I moved to my other computer from right within the iweb application?
Presently I am using a mac mini and order an iMac i7 a few days ago. The machine won't be here until Jan. 7th, so I am just planning ahead.
I remembered when I switched from a macbook pro to the mini a few months back, I had to again rebuilt the site from the beginning. I am trying to avoid having to do that again.
help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

You want to copy the Domain.sites2 file to the other Mac. It's located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. It's the heart and soul of your site so keep a current backup of it at all times.

  • Have tried to copy ratings over to a new computer using the export playlist function and this fails... can anyone suggest why?

have tried to copy ratings over to a new computer using the export playlist function and this fails... can anyone suggest why?

Because ratings don't travel with the files or the playlist.
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

  • I just got a new computer and I'm trying to sync my Ipod to the new computer not all of my items are coming over to the new computer

I'm having trouble getting all of my apps and photos to sync to the new computer and only about half of my music will copy over.  What am I missing?

It will only move "purchased" songs - i.e. those bought through the iTunes store. Anything that you loaded into iTunes from another source (CD, bought elsewhere, etc.) has to be either reloaded from that source, or brought over via iTunes "Home Sharing".
In my own experience, Home Sharing works the best - although it can take literally days, depending on how large your music/ap/movie library is on the original computer.

  • I'm trying to move all my iTunes data over to a new computer!

Recently, I purchased a new Windows PC and a terabyte hard drive to back all my files up. The old computer is gone and everything is now on the terabyte hard drive, including my iTunes info.
When I searched "itunes" within the hard drive, it came up with over 300 files to choose from!
How do I know which file is the one that will download iTunes onto the computer? And will it keep all my data that was on my last iTunes?

  • Can I transfer my windows 7 over to my new computer?

Alright, I've set up my new MacBook Pro and I didn't transfer everything over because I wanted to start fresh and all and only manually transfer over stuff instead of everything. Now my problem is that I want to transfer over my Windows 7 that I use with bootcamp. I would just reinstall it, but it was an upgrade so I'd have to load my copy of Windows Vista first, which, since I have the most recent Mac OS, that's not possible. Any suggestions on how to transfer over my Windows 7? Can I just copy over the partition? Or will that not work?
    Thanks in advance!

Well you see Carolyn, I have the install disc for windows VISTA and the upgrade to 7, and while Microsoft will let me reinstall vista on my new computer, I cannot, so I am here trying to see if there is a work around that isn't overly complicated/back doorish.
If using Boot Camp, Windows needs to be installed on the new hardware, not transferred or copied. If your new hardware/operating system do not support Vista then you need to get a full Windows version that is supported and install that.
The simple work-around is to install your Vista in a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox rather than nstalling Windows using Boot Camp.

  • I had my iPhone 4S stolen last week and I am going to sync it to my computer to get everything back on it. I have a new computer, i know how to copy music over to the new computer, but where are the contacts stored on the computer?

    Hi there,
Can anyone help me!? I know how to copy my music library to my new computer but struggling with copying the contacts etc. Where do I find the contacts folder on my old computer?
    Thanks

I had my iPhone 4S stolen last week and I am going to sync it to my computer to get everything back on it.
If it is stolen , how are you going to sync it?
You mean you got a new iPhone and you want to sync it to your computer?
    Plug it in.
I know how to copy my music library to my new computer
    New computer??? Or new iPhone?
I know how to copy my music library to my new computer but struggling with copying the contacts etc. Where do I find the contacts folder on my old computer?
I suggest you simply copy your entire User folder from old computer to new computer. This way all your data (Music, photos, contacts, emails, calendars, documents, etc.)  goes across.

  • Will I lose my saved data in apps, games, and pictures by transferring over to a new computer?

I got a new Ipad. I'm going to sync it with all my songs and apps from my computer. I'm getting a new computer soon. When I transfer the apps and songs to that computer and update my Ipad on the new computer, will I lose my pictures and saved app data because of the new computer?

You won't lose the data if you transfer purchases and restore the iPad from a backup. Read this thread where this very same issue was discussed. Read my post (Demo) and read King Penguin's post as well. As long as you follow these instructions you should be able to move all of your apps, music, saved data, photos and all iTunes content to your new computer.
Remember to turn off auto syncing in iTunes, Transfer Purchases and backup the iPad before you sync any content at all. It is all explained here.

  • Transfering Registration and passwords over to a new computer

I would like to know how do you transfer registration/passwords for applications on my g4 computer running classic 9.22 to a new g5 computer running mac osx. I would like to save the time in installing and re-registering. Plus, i also lost some of my software apps.
    Mac   Mac OS 9.2.x

Hi, ayzee. The first thing to do is simple: just copy the application folders from your G4 into the Applications (OS 9) folder on the G5. Some of them will probably work just fine in Classic mode under OS X without any further attention. Others may prompt you to enter registration info, serial numbers, etc. Those apps probably stored the information they're asking you to supply in some obscure place on your OS 9 hard drive, and you may or may not be able to find it, or to recognize it when you do find it. There is no consistency from one app to another in how or where such info is stored, whether it's encrypted, etc.
For apps that ask for such data when you try to run them in Classic mode under OS X, the best solution is to reinstall them from their original source CDs. The alternative is to rummage through the hard drive on the old G4 looking for a file or files that seem likely to contain the needed information, and copy such files to the same locations on your G5's drive that they occupied on the G4's. Some such files will probably be invisible, and you'll have to have a utility that can make them visible in order to move or copy them with the Finder.
For apps whose source CDs you've lost, call the software developers, establish your credentials as a registered user of their software, and ask their advice on identifying and moving the necessary files. You might also want to ask about the availability of replacement CDs.

  • How do I copy my iPhoto Library over to a new computer?

I am doing it right now with FileSharing, but the copy window is telling me it will take upwards of several hours. Is there an easier way?

Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
Any highspeed wired connection will work from a cat 5 or 6 cable to and ethernet network to firewire

  • My computer will not let me authorize my music and movies when i transferred my external hard drive over to my new computer why

why can't i authorize my new computer

    Two things:
    - Completely remove and reinstall the Apple software by the following.  That link provides a link for Win &.
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    - If you still have a problem after restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod you likely have a hardware problem. An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is then in order.

You don't want/need to transfer it, just install on the Mac like you did on the Windows machine using the Mac installation file(s).
