Cartesian co-ordinates

hello,
i have a 1D array of numbers wired to a peak locator.
the peak locator gives me the location and amplitude of the peaks.
however i want the location of the peak in cartesian co-ordinates,
in other words the peak locator is giving me the point location of the peak, however that point is a cluster of x and y, how do i seperate that?
i basically want to know what the x-value and y-value of each of the peals are.

I'm not sure I understand correctly. Do you mean a simple "unbundle"? You find it on the clusters palette.

I need to design a 2D cartesian co-ordinate system to plot quadratic equations on the graph using pure action script. Quadratic equations are of the form y = ax^2 + bx + c where a,b and c are the variables for which the values need to accepted from the user as input. Accordingly, the curve needs to be plotted on the graph.
Could anybody kindly help me to write an action script 3.0 code to suffice the above requirement?

that will take more work than doable in a forum. to start, you need to find the roots of your equation (use the quadratic formula) and make sure the real roots are towards the center of your x-axis. the two parts where y tends towards (+infinity or -infinity) do not require much display.
if there is only 1 or 0 roots, put that equation in vertex form and use an x-axis centered around the vertex.

Georeference cartesian co-ordinates to standard co-ordinate system

We have set of old maps which do not follow any standard co-ordinate system and they are just cartesian grid co-ordinates (for example lat,long 40.733828,-73.988414 corresponds to cartesian co-ordinates 1610350, 1114450) . I want to explore a possibility of applying simple transformation and geo-reference it to standard co-ordinate system. I can have little compromise on positional accuracy. What is best available method to do it oracle spatial?

Well...
One approach would be via EPSG method 9621. Unfortunately, 9621 is not yet implemented, at this point.
Another approach is via NADCON, although NADCON was not semantically meant to be used in this way. If you can determine (lat, lon) and (x,y) exactly along the 4 corners of your unknown map, we could use the NADCON method. It is difficult to say how much accuracy you would get with these 4 points. The accuracy would increase with an equi-spaced grid of n x m known points.
Yet another approach would be that we simply assume a transverse mercator projection. Since your map only covers Manhattan - who will see the difference between transverse mercator or anything else (assuming that the projection center is near Manhattan)? But it is a little more complex, of course. First, we would need to perform a datum transformation with the required rotation. This would simulate the rotation of the map you talked about. Then we would perform a transverse mercator projection with its center near Manhattan. We would have to assume that your unknown projection also had its center near Manhattan (resulting in minimal distortion, there). This assumption is reasonable for a map of this scale.
If you give me approximately 5 points for which you know lat/lon and x/y, I will see what I can do. Usually, we do not do this, and it will certainly take a few days, for I will have to fit it into my schedule.
Also, a reasonable result will only come out if our assumptions regarding this unknown projection are mostly true.

3D surface spherical integral

Hi,
I am like would to know how to integrate a 3D surface for a specific solid angle in spherical co-ordinates (for example, a solid angle subtened by a 'lens'). The 3D surface is in cartesian co-ordinates. I am able to convert the 3D surface from cartesian to spherical co-ordinates, but I am having problems with displaying them in 3D surface graph (in spherical co-ordinates mode).
It would be nice if somebody can help me out.
I have attached two files. 1) Screen shot of the program, 2) Actual program.
The program creates a parametric ellipsoid surface in Cartesian co-ordinates and converts into Spherical co-ordinates. I need to then perform integration (which is not included).

Need help editing for 14:9 broadcast -- what's the best strategy?

Hi,
I work for a station which broadcasts in 14:9. I can cope easily with this when using full screen images by visualising, roughly, what will be lost on the left and right. But now I want to use split-screens and image collages using smaller, scaled down pictures, and want to be able to design the material precisely within a 14:9 frame so that none of the material is lost.
What's the best strategy for this? Is there a cartesian co-ordinate I shouldn't stray beyond -- or better, is there an easy way with a mask, perhaps, to show 14:9 within a 16:9 timeline. (I'll be editing with a 16:9 timeline). Can I somehow create two vertical lines to visually provide the limits of the 14 component of the aspect?

Well, you could certainly create a mask in PhotoShop that is 720x480 wide, but has a 630x480 hole in it. Then bring it in and set its anamorphic flag and put it on the top Video layer to see a 14:9 window.
I arrived at 630 by multiplying 720x14 and dividing the result by 16...

How do I use my iPhone 4s to set GPS co-ordinates to use at a later date?

I'm wanting to go to an aread in the bush - enter the GPS co-ordinates in my iPhone 4s and then be able to go back to the same place at a later date. How do I go about it. I have no idea if I even have a GPS on my iPhone 4s.

There is a built in GPS and map function that provides basic navigation using Google Maps. It's hard to miss right there on the home screen. However, it is maunal; you have to tap "next" when you reach each waypoint, and it does not provide spoken directions. It also downloads maps in real time, so it can be slow if you have a slow data connection, and it uses a lot of data if you are on a limited data plan. It is excellent for walking and public transportation, less useful in a vehicle unless you have a navigator sitting in the car.
There are several commercial GPS apps that you can buy from the App Store, but no free ones. Just search the App Store for "GPS".

How to change default vertical page co-ordinates from center, to top?

We're having trouble understanding why InDesign centers the page instead of aligning the view to the top when switching pages (and copying and pasting) - and how to change this behavior.
To understand what I'm talking about, do the following:
Create a new document (any size)
Use the page tool to to change the height
Create a new page and use the page tool to make the height a lot taller
Now switch between the pages
Notice how InDesign always shows you the center of the page?
This is frustrating in many situations like copying and pasting - try the following:
Create a box on the first page and align it to 20mm from the top and 20mm from the left
Copy the box
Switch to the second page
Paste using CMD + OPT + SHFT + P
The object should be pasted in the same spot (20mm from the top and 20mm from the left) but it isn't - on the vertical, it's pasted relative to the center of the page for some reason.
It surprising how annoying this becomes when you're constantly re-positioning pasted items or when switching between web layouts of different heights - it becomes a two step process instead of one.
Does anyone know how to change this behavior?
Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated - we're using CS5.5

Why in the same spot if pages have different size?
In general, sure - but what about letting the user define a point of reference? For me, it's always the top left corner like the rulers - I completely understand if that doesn't work for others but it would save me so much wasted time constantly repositioning objects.
Also, in a lot of documents with different page-sizes, setting the reference to top left (or whatever you set your rulers to) actually works a lot of the time - granted, probably only for those that use the numbers to position objects.
Anyway, what I'd like to do is find out how to set a document-wide reference point for co-ordinates - obviously you can't do this right?
Another thing that wastes time (in a similar vein) is the ability to set defaults for translation, rotation and flipping etc.
Almost without fail, I find I want top left when moving (because I set rulers to top left) but center for rotation and flipping. Being able to set a default per translation type would save a lot of pointing and clicking.
Is this possible?

How to get the co-ordinates of a dynamically created input field

i have created a dynamic text view . but this text view is not appearing at proper position . I want palce it infront of a dynamically created input field . how can i do this ?
as i am thinking ...i should first of all get info about the co-ordinates of dynamaclly creatd input field . and with respect to these co-ordinates ...set the position of text View .

Hi,
There is no provision in WD for getting screen coordinates and then placing the UI element.
You to add the UI element to layout editor and based on the layout type it will add the UI element to respective position.
I would advice not to create dynamic UI elements( instead you can create them statically and then play with visibility status through context binding ). This will be more effective way and less error prone. This is also recommended practice.

Best performance in a cartesian product

i've got a select that needs a cartesian product.
ex:
SELECT NVL(a.year,cp.year) year, NVL(a.month,cp.month), NVL(a.value,0) value
FROM
(select year, month from year, month) cp, values a
WHERE cp.year = a.year(+) AND cp.month = a.month(+)
i have to show all records possible even if they don't have any values on the table.
In the beginning with fewer values, it ran OK.... but now with a lot more it begins to take a little longer (about 10 times longer).
What is the best way to improve this kind of selects???

Grus help needed in finding the queries with Cartesian joins

I have a reporting tool in which users are allowed to put the joins on the views and add some sub queries that produces a Cartesian product. Is there any tool or way that I can stop the execution of those query before it is being executed for example
Step 1 ) user creates a query
step2 ) user submits it
step 3) by any tool or any check if Cartesian join is found the query execution is stopped and notify the user that the query is not good if no problem executes the query.
I really need help in step 3. I am on 9i release2.
Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

I Agree with Gasparotto, you should limit the resource consume.
You must understand that cartesian join, isn´t always a BAD guy, sometimes you need it.
If your developers are in trouble with handle the join , think about NATURAL JOIN, may be it helps you

IChart_ Y Co-ordinate for all Tags in Legend

Hello All,
I am using a ichart to display the trends of various parameters.(industrual parameters like motor temperature, amps, speed etc.)
I can see the X and Y value of the mouse or a when a single point is selected; I can see the X, Y co-ordinates of the selected point.
Can any body help me how can I see the values of all the tags in a chart in the Legend. (Whenever I move the mouse across x axis, I should be able to see the values of all the tags [Y co-ordinate values] at the current position.)
My requirement is similar to feature available in all SCADAs.

Hi Avdhoot,
you should be able to do this by enabling the "Show Scooter" option on the General tab of the Display Template editor. Also make sure that "Show Legend" is ticked.
After saving this change, restart your browser (to clear the Java applet cache). Once enabled, you should see the y-axis values of each tag in brackets inside the legend box. These values will cahnge as you move your mouse cursor along the x-axis.

In the above query i used the keyword :APP_USER which identifies the user who logs in APEX.
Also i have a role named XXHW_AMS_ADMIN, which identifies the user under the admin category.
So, according to my query, if the user is not in the admin category means, it has to show only the records raised by him. If the user is in the admin category means then it has to show all the records of all the users other than the status which is not in 'CREATED'.
But my above query is resulting in cartesian join, if i check with the admin username.
But it fetches the correct result if i checked with the user who is not in the admin category.
I dont know why the cartesian join is occuring if i check with the admin user.
Suppose if i tried to run the query separately which is beneath the EXIST condition* for checking the admin user means, then it is recognizing the admin. But i dont know why it is not working in my above query.*

When I query it individually its giving me as below and its correct.
SQL> select count(hiredate) from scott.emp where hiredate<'01-DEC-81';
COUNT(HIREDATE)
9
SQL> select count(hiredate) from scott.emp where hiredate<'23-JUN-81';
COUNT(HIREDATE)
6
Now I want these two merged in same query and it should give me the same result
SQL> select count(distinct e.hiredate),count(distinct b.hiredate) from scott.emp
e, scott.emp b where e.hiredate<'01-DEC-80' and b.hiredate<'23-JUN-81';
COUNT(DISTINCTE.HIREDATE) COUNT(DISTINCTB.HIREDATE)
0 0
But its giving me either cartesian product or the result above.

How to make website links out of background jpeg (co-ordinate tracked clicks)

I am an illustrator working on my website that i have drawn out by hand and scanned in to a jpeg. it is set to fit the whole screen, and i have drawn out where i want the navigation links. how do i get dreamweaver to use co-ordinate clicking to link my webpages together?

First just so you know, images are a very clumsy way of creating site navigation. Each time you add new pages to your site, you must re-craft your menus in your graphics editor which gets old in a hurry.
Second, you can't link background images to anything as they do not exist in the HTML markup. You would need to slice up your menu items and insert them as regular images into your HTML page. But as I said above, image-based menus are not efficient. You would do well to use Text links and style them with CSS. This allows for quick editing of menus directly from DW and is web friendly for search engines, translators and screen readers.
