Case insensitive and SQL server

We need to be able to do case insensitive searches in OBIEE running against SQL Server 2005 DB.
I've read the article:
http://shivabizint.wordpress.com/2009/04/20/case-insensitive-search-using-dashboard-prompt/
but that is not solving our issue as it converts everything to UPPER and our DB is mixed case. If we enter "a", we need to bring back all records that start with "a" or "A". Can we accomplish this?
Any help is appreciated,
C.

Hi ,
I faced the similar situation couple of weeks back. You can find the useful information the below link.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12096_01/books/AnyInConfig/AnyInConfigNQSConfigFileRef8.html#wp1034928
If Database Case Sensitive is ON we need to set the CASE_SENSITIVE_CHARACTER_COMPARISON = ON
Always Database and OBIEE CASE_SENSITIVE parameters should be the same.
Thanks

  • Database Adapter and SQL Server procedure issue

    Hello,
I am using Jdev 11.1.1.7.0 and SQL Server 2005.
In the Database Adapter configuration wizard, Specify Stored Procedure step, I choose the “GEACupax” schema and got the following error after a click on “Procedure Browse” button:
    com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Invalid object name 'GEACUPAX.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.SCHEMATA'.
The command Database Adapter tried to execute was:
    (from jdev log:) select schema_name from GEACUPAX.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.SCHEMATA order by schema_name;
Note, the schema name has changed to uppercase. I think that is the problem. If I try this query in SQLDeveloper, it returns the same error. I can fix it changing the schema name to “GEACupax”. The case matters.
    Any ideas?
    Leandro.

    Vijay,
    Thanks for you reply.
I figure out a related bug:
Bug 12859472: Cannot browse store procedure in case-sensitive MS SQL Database
    There are two possible workarounds:
    1. Use a database name with capital letters
    2. Do not use stored procedures, but access the tables directly.
The notes on the Bug ticket describes that the issue would be scheduled to be fixed in PS7 which is 11.1.1.8.
    Cheers!
    Leandro.

I'm getting the above error for DB links between Oracle 10.2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. But the same, when configured for MS SQL server 2000 works fine without any issues.
Please advise me to rectify the error. We've been working for the last couple of weeks.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Sunil,
You don't need an Oracle ODBC driver.
The way it works is that in the gateway init<sid>.ora file, in your case initTelemetryDB1.ora, the parameter HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO points to a system DSN. This DSN should then be configured to use an ODBC driver to connect to the non-Oracle database. So, in your setup when you want to access the SQL*Server 2008 database then the DSN should use an ODBC driver that can connect to a SQL*Server 2008 database. If you still use the initTelemetryDB1.ora file for the connection then the TelemetryDB1 DSN should be configured to access the SQL*Server 2008 database.
However, there are a couple of problems with your actual setup -
    - the configuration you have - 10.2 RDBMS on a Sun machine and HSODBC on Windows - is not supported. HSODBC should only be used from a RDBMS that is in the same ORACLE_HOME as HSODBC.
    - 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and has been replaced by the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) and the configuration you want is supported. That is because unlike HSODBC the DG4ODBC gateway can be installed standalone with a RDBMS being installed.
I recommend that you download and install 11.20.2 DG4ODBC on your Windows machine in a new Oracle_home and access that from the 10.2 RDBMS on Sun - which is a supported configuration. But to do this, you will need to apply either the 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to your RDBMS.
There is more information in the following note available on My Oracle Support (MOS) -
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
The 11.2.0.2 DG4ODBC can be downloaded from MOS as patch and for the gateways on Windows 32-bit you just need to download -
    p10098816_112020_platform_4of6.zip
However, to check the HSODBC ou need to confirm that the DSN used by HSODBC points to a System DSN configured to access SQL*Server 2008.
    Have a look at -
Note 109730.1 How to setup generic connectivity (HSODBC) for Windows NT
But remember this is not a supported version or configuration and you should be using Dg4ODBC.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Developing database views between Oracle and SQL Server tables

I am on Oracle 10.2, my organization has many SQL Server databases as well and has now made
SQL server as company standard so many new databases will be developed in SQL Server. It is of course
not possible to convert all Oracle databases to SQL Server, so a mix environment will exist. Two questions:
    1.     Is it possible to develop database views in Oracle (10g in my case) which join Oracle tables with tables in SQL Server 2008? If yes, how. I have seen some heterogeneous connectivity setup to connect SQL Server to Oracle, but not sure whether it is possible to develop a database view across two databases.
    2.     I know it is not a SQL Server forum, but many DBA’s know both Oracle and SQL Server. Is it possible to develop views in SQL Server (SQL Server 2008 R2 in my case) which join Oracle 10g and SQL Server 2008 tables? I know in SQL Server, there is way to set up linked servers, but do not know whether it is possible to develop views.
Thanks a lot for your insight.

You can create views that join local Oracle tables and remote SQL Server tables. I'm pretty sure you can do the reverse as well but I haven't personally done it.
However, I would be very concerned about the performance you'd get if you created that sort of view. You'd very frequently end up in a situation where Oracle has to pull all the data in the remote table across the database link in order to apply predicates and join the data locally. That could be disastrous from a performance standpoint.

Heterogeneous joins do not exactly scale and performance can be severely degraded by network speed and b/w availability. And there is nothing you can do in the application and database layers to address performance issue at the network level in this case - your code's performance is simply at the mercy of network performance. With a single glaring fact - network performance is continually degrading. All the time. Always. Until it is upgraded. When the performance degradation starts all over again.
If the tables are not small (few 1000 rows each) and row volumes static, I would not consider doing a heterogeneous join. Instead I would rather go for a materialised view on the Oracle side, use a proper table and index structure, and do a local database join.

  • Data sync between oracle and sql server

    Greetings Everyone,
Your expert views are highly appreciable regarding the following.
We at work are evaluation different solutions to achieve data synchronization between oracle and sql server data bases. Data sync i mentioned here is for live applications. We are runnign oracle EBS 11i with custom applications and intending to implement a custom software based on .NET and SQL Server. Now the whole research is to see updates and data changes whenever happens between these systems.
I googled and found Oracle Golden Gate, Microsoft SSIS, Wisdom Force from Informatica....
If you can pour in more knowledge then it's great.
    Thank You.

Most of the work involved has to be done through scripts and there is no effective GUI to implement OGG.However using commands is not vey togh and they are very intutive.
These are the steps, from a high level:
1.Get the appropriate GG Software for your source and target OS.
2.Install GG on source and target systems.
3.Create Manager and extract processes on source system
4.Create Manager and replicat processes on target system
    5.Start these processes.
First try to achieve uni-directional replication. Then Bi-directional is easy.I have implemented bi-directional active active replication using Oracle DBs as source and target. Refer to Oracle installation and admin guides for more details.
Here is a good article that may be handy in your case.

  • What is the different between Sharepoint fast search service and Sql server fulltext search?

    HI ,
I want to kow what is the different between Sharepoint fast search service and Sql server fulltext search?
Or Can I abstract the Sharepoint fast search from the Sharepoint platform as a isolate component?
    Thank you.
    James

They are very, very different beasts.
Firstly FAST Search for SharePoint is the old name for the product and is only relevant for SharePoint 2010 not 2013. It got merged into the standard SharePoint search for the 2013 release.
SharePoint search is aimed at providing a Bing or Google like experience for your intranet content, as well as providing some nifty features that are purely SharePoint releated along the way. That means it can crawl SharePoint content, file shares,
outlook mailboxes, internal and external websites and probably fifty other different things if you really tried. Whilst i'm not an expert on SQL full text search I believe it's intended to provide a search feature for content held within SQL databases
    and tables.
Can you run SharePoint purely for Search? Yes, definitely.

As far as I know you have 3 options depending on your specifications. I don't think option #3 will work if you need to actually join a
SQL Server table to an Oracle table.
    1. Oracle Transparent Gateway. I haven't used the Oracle Transparent Gateway but my understanding is that Oracle gateways are
separate purchased products from Oracle. I've never seen any free/development versions of it anywhere. You'll need to contact
your Oracle sales rep about it.
    2. Heterogeneous Connectivity. There's something called Heterogeneous Connectivity that could work for you - depends on what
version of Oracle you're on and what OS. You basically set up an ODBC data source on the Oracle server and modify the listener.ora
and tnsnames.ora files. You can then create a database link to SQL Server just like you would to any other Oracle database. You can
check your Oracle documentation for how this works. There's also some very good documents on Metalink that tell you how to do this
as well as a Heterogeneous Connectivity forum on this site.
    3. Use the exec_sql package available in Developer 2000. This allows you to open and execute cursors to remote databases within
Developer. We have an account validation process that uses this - when a person enters an account number in a form while logged
into Oracle it validates the account is valid in our main accounting DB2 database. We also pull HR information from DB2 into Oracle
this way. If you're using Forms 6i exec_sql is a built-in command, in Forms 5.0 and 5.5 you have to add it as an attached library to
the form. I think you also need the OCA options installed from the Developer software to have access to the library in Forms 5.0 and
5.5. The library will be in the $ORACLE_HOME\oca20\plsqllib directory for these versions. The Developer documentation should have
    additional information.

You only need the ODBC driver on each computer. If you are distributing the SQL Toolkit app as an executable and do not install the whole toolkit on each computer, you'll need the SQL Toolkit support files. This is about a dozen files. BalaiP

You do not want to use a SQL Alias with an AG Listener. Just point SharePoint straight at the AG Listener. You will need to manually add any accounts to non-primary instances. You do not need to add them to individual databases, of course. You will also
need to manually set MAXDOP to 1 on non-primary instances.
