Casio CTK-720 Keyboard

I have a  Casio CTK-720 Keyboard and Mac OSX 10.8, and I'm trying to use my keyboard with Sibeius (a music writing program).  Casio says it doesn't support Mac with their drivers so I tried to look around online to see what I could find.  Alas, I tried using a 3rd-party driver (more info here http://code.google.com/p/casiousbmididriver/), but it didn't work.  I had a similar problem on my Windows Machine (as Casio doesn't support 64-bit drivers on Windows), and found that I could download a Roland Driver, change some ID numbers, and it would work fine.  I was wondering if I could do that on a Mac.
Any ideas?

Just did it today. Hooked up CTK-720 to Imac with Snow Leopard (10.2.6) using GarageBand.
Steps: 1) Go to : http://code.google.com/p/casiousbmididriver/ 2) Download the CasioUSBMIDIDriver.plugin (see the two choices on the right side of screen) 3) Place the CasioUSBMIDIDriver.Plugin file into the MIDI Driver subfolder: Macintosh HD => Library => Audio => MIDI Drivers 4) Restart 5) Plug in USB cable, open GarageBand, turn on Casio 6) In GraarageBand Open New Project, Start by using Piano, Select Keyboard (command K) in the Window menu 7) You should see the keyboard being played on the screen.
PS: Thank you Francois Ferland.

  • Connecting Casio ctk 900 music keyboard to macbook, garageband 3 can I ?

Connecting Casio Ctk 900 music keyboard to macbook, garageband 3 can I ?
    Can I? Are they compatible???
I can connect to windows but this is not much help.
I hope someone with Casio Keyboard and Mac reads this!!
    Thanks

You can record the audio output of the keyboard - i.e. its own sounds - by plugging the output to the line in of your Mac (if it has one) or to a suitable audio-USB interface.
You can use the keyboard to drive GarageBand - using GB's own sounds - by plugging the MIDI output (a round socket with five smaller sockets within it in a semicircle) into a suitable MIDI-SUB interface.
This keyboard, according to the published specs, does not have a USB connection so the problems about compatibility do not arise. (Casio keyboards with a USB connection for MIDI notoriously don't work with Macs). The incompatibility mentioned in the previous post concerns the transfer of programs and MIDI files to the keyboard rather than using the keyboard as a MIDI source.
There are a number of suitable interfaces around, such as those made by Edirol.

  • Connecting Casio CTK-4200 to Macbook runing OSX 10.9.1?

I'm trying to connect my Casio CTK-4200 to my Macbook but when i plug in the usb cable to my computer and keyboard, garageband is not recognizing it. I checked the manual and it says that it's compatible with mac. What am i doing wrong?

I've been is a similar exasperating situation for three months. Similar to your case, I use my Macbook with an HP digital light projector, but the SB21 model.
Please refer to this thread for a solution which worked for me: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1731505&tstart=0.
I hope it works for you, too. Goodluck.

  • How can I get an old Casio CTK-593 to work with Logic Express?

Title pretty much says it all.
I have a Fast Track USB from M-Audio to connect it to my pc but I don't know how to get it working with Logic.
    Thanks in advance.

Did you check your connection with the audio-midi-setup.app in the programs/utilities folder of your MAC (not "pc" pls)?
If you have a working MIDI connection, you'll need to open up a software instrument track within Logic to play Logic's instruments via your keyboard.

  • MIDI-In not working from my Casio PX-100 keyboard to Audigy card. HELP

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I've searched on google, in this and many other forums. It seems like alot of people have this sort of problem. I've tried various solutions suggested to other people but to no avail. I actually have 2 problems. . MIDI-in isn't working2. I get the message "timeout error" when I try to send MIDI files to the keyboard using the SMF converter. I'm running widows XP Pro service pack 2, MSI K8N Neo motherboard, creative Audigy soundcard with the latest drivers, ATI All in one wonder graphics card, M-Audio Soundcard MIDI cable which connects to the game/joystick port which you can view [url="http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/SoundCardMIDICableMale0ft-main.html">here.[/url]?MIDI out works. I tried re-installing the Audigy drivers after using software to remove all other audio drivers. AC97 is disabled in the BIOS. I used the keyboard in AudioHQ to test? MIDI-In - I have MIDI-IO selected in the MIDI options for the keyboard. As for?the SMF converted, I don't understand why my keyboard?can play MIDI files from my computer but the converter doesn't work. I've tried many other things. Maybe a USB cable will work? Thanks.

  • Garage Band/Hammond Bass Sound/Casio Privia/Split Keyboard

Hi, I'm not great with technology so I would love a simple answer if possible.
I have connected my Privia 320 to my Mac and run it through garage band successfully, but I was hoping someone could answer the following questions:
    1. Does anyone know of a good Hammond bass sound available on Garage Band or a way to create or download one?
    2. Does anyone know how I can split the keyboard so that the left hand remains with this bass sound while the right hand can flip through various patches of other organs or synths or whatever? The keyboard itself has a split button but I can't figure out how this might help me while running through a computer. I have always found Midi stuff terribly confusing.
    Thank you very much...

As for question #2: GB doesn't allow you to split the keyboard, sorry. It can only listen to midi signals on one track (=instrument) at a time.

  • No sound from Casio CTK-481

It USED to work. I had bought a MIDI to USB cable, and I plugged it in and it worked first try, but now it just won't work. GarageBand says that there is a MIDI input detected, but it won't make a sound like it used to. I don't think I changed the settings, but it's possible. Any clue as to what's going on? I also don't think that it's the MIDI cable. The lights are still on, and when I press the down arrow to the MIDI connection in MIDI Setup in the Utilities a yellow light blinks once every time I click it.

The Apple representative at CompUSA computer store told me I needed The USB to MIDI cable that was included in the Voyetra Music Studio Kit, a PC based product. He said the softwear should not make any difference since all I need is the cable that comes with it. The cable itself is made my "TURTLE BEACH". I have heard people talk about needing an interface with what I am trying to do, but I am not sure what an interface actually is. I assume it is some type of box that allows different cables to be plugged into. The people at Casio guessed that I need some sort of driver but they couldn't tell me anymore. The Apple people at their technical line, had no idea what the problem was and had no advise to offer. It seemed though the person I spoke with really didn't know much about all this. Hope this helps to clear up my difficulty.

  • Casio Keyboard that will not connect to Garage Band

    Hi Everyone!
I have a Casio CTK- 496 keyboard that I am trying to connect into Garage band '11.  It recognizes that I have inputed a Midi device, but when I try to play the piano in garage band it does not work.  I dont know what to do! Can someone please please help me!! Thanks so much!
    ellen

The Keyboard is connected to my computer though a midi to USB cable.
And that is in a midi-out plug?
You have selected a Software instrument track, when you are playing the piano? What instrument have you selected? Which octave are using on the keyboard?
Sometimes GarageBand will not play the sound at first, unless you record to the track at least once. Do you see notes in the Track editor for the track appearing, when you press the record button, before you start playing?
To check, if GarageBand is reading your keyboard at all, I'd first try to record to test track, that you can delete later. Show the Track editor while playing.
Also show the Musical Typing Window (⇧⌘K). That should mimic the keys, that you are pressing on your keybord. This way you will see what GarageBAnd is reading from the midi.
If GarageBand reads the notes, but jyou just can't hear anything, set all volume sliders to maximum, try a different instrument, try a different octave.

  • MIDI not working in GarageBand

I am about ready to rip my hair out on this one. I have surfed through a ton of forums and can't get a straight answer. I bought an MIDI to USB interface to play my keyboard in GarageBand. It is a E-MU X midi 1x1 Tab connector and a Casio CTK-558 keyboard. I plugged the cables in correctly and checked my GB settings to see that one MIDI connector is working. I created a new SOFTWARE track and I still can't get any sound. I went to utilities and MIDI audio set-up and my keyboard shows up. When I hit the test connection and press the keys it occasionaly makes a click sound. I am assuming that means its working. IDK what the arrows under it mean. It is a plug and play device so there aren't any drivers for it. I just don't know how people in the YouTube videos make it work so easy. I could really use some help here.

FrostArc I had similar frustration. It was saying it detected the midi input but nothing came through. Searched everywhere nothing helped.
Do all the basic things like midi in to out and vice versa. Now this sounds simple and what not but I noticed, after a long time, when I played my keyboard there were tiny indicators it was working. Only 1 green line in the volume feedback on garageband. Something really unnoticable. So I put down the volume on my keyboard and put up the volume to all max levels on my speakers and the volume bars in garageband and finally the sound came through. I really needed to crank all the levels up to hear it. It's still rather quiet but it works.
I have a Casio CTK-900 and a Carilion M1X1 usb cable. I hope this helps let me know if it doesn't!
P.S In my frustration I downloaded the newest version of garageband. Don't know if that changed it.

  • Casio keyboard connection through 3.5mm jack

Just got new imac 27 inch, trying to connect a casio ctk 1100 musical keyboard through the 3.5mm input jack on the back, it seems to register in the sound preference screen but no sound is heard through the imac speakers, i want to use it with garageband but this doesent see the keyboard, am i missing something here or do i need some sort of input device, the keyboard only has a 3.5mm output jack. thanks

When the keyboard is connected and you go to System Preferences->Sound; Input you have Line IN selected as your input correct?
Now when you hit a key on the keyboard does the input level display light up? Do you have input volume turned up? Is there a volume control on the keyboard?
How are the inputs in Garage Band (Garage Band->Preferences->Audio/MIDI) set?
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - BTW the keyboard output does work ok if plugged into another device, say headphones?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer

  • Casio Keyboard MIDI problems

Hi, I've got a Casio CDP-100 keyboard and I've just bought a MIDI to USB cable so that I could use it as a MIDI controller on Garageband. However I discovered it didn't seem to work. When I plug it in it seems to detect a MIDI device but it doesn't seem to do anything. When I looked in the Audio Midi Setup it didn't seem to pick the keyboard up either. After searching online I found a driver (the Casio USB MIDI driver - a popular homemade one, Casio don't do Mac) which on the compatibility page supposedly works with my keyboard, but it still doesn't seem to work. What can I do!!

I'm sorry I'm totally new to MIDI, I might need spoon feeding. All I've done is plugged both the MIDI plugs into the only two MIDI slots in my keyboard - in to in and out to out and the other end into a USB-2 port. I'm probably being really dumb, but if you can help at all I'd really appreciate it.

  • Can I use a MIDI keyboard as an input device for a software instrument?

I have a Casio CTK-2100 that I am currently playing around with in Logic Pro 9. It can record and playback the different instruments fine using MIDI tracks. But I was wondering if it is possible to use the keyboard as an input device for a software instrument instead of the "Step Input Keyboard".
Is it? If so, how do I set it up?

Yes, the terminology can be a bear, many, many years ago when I started using Logic the manuals were written completely by the programmers, while they were quite humorous in places the were also really hard to understand so I learned/realized.. you can't really do anything so wrong it's going to destroy your computer so why not go ahead and experiment. I learned the basics of Logic without a manual, months later when I went back to find some some details I could figure out the manual made a lot more sense.
Logic has been somewhat Appleized but it's not really an Apple program, it was purchased almost as developed as it is now... a lot of the additions a fluff to make it easier to understand for new users while at the same time there are some real improvements.
This is personal opinion: With all of the forums/online tutorials...etc...etc. It seems users are learning (but not understanding) the same things, plus everyone wants to use it right away so nobody takes a deep breath and investigates on their own. Logic is a deep, deep program, while learning don't be afraid to go off on a tangent and explore the program without any other input, it can actually be inspirational. One other thing good about the manual or "Online Help", in looking up a function you will invariably come across a related concept that will provide further insight.
    And..... have fun.

  • Choosing a midi keyboard for garage band

    Hi All,
I am buying my daughter a keyboard and would like to ensure that when she gets her new Mac taht it will work. I am looking at the Yamaha YPT200 or the Casio CTK-800
If anyone has some experience with these and can offer feedback that would be appreciated.
She is looking at an Imac or Laptop as hardware and will be OSx of course
    Thanks

Here's the link for the M-Audio Keystation 49e 49-Note USB MIDI Controller Keyboard for exactly $89. Oh, and it's Plug and Play, no drivers, no AC power, just plug it into a Mac's USB port.
(And needless to say, I am another happy 49e owner)
Was there a particular reason you were looking at those two keyboards?

  • Help setting up midi keyboards

    Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie and was trying to figure out how to set up two midi keyboards to run two different midi instruments so that one instrument gets the data from one keyboard and the other instrument gets its from the other.
I have a Edirol PC-50 midi keyboard plugged into a usb port and I also have a Casio CTK-611 hooked up to a m-audio usb-uno 1x1 midi cable thats also plugged into the mac usb port. Both keyboards play the instruments fine but they play both instruments together. I cant seem to figure out how to assign one keyboard to its own instrument. I have read several forums and noticed other people had the same issues but have not come across a solution yet. I have also read the manual and did what page 382 said to do but that seemed to make things worse I got no sound that way. I know I must have some setting wrong or maybe it's my gear thats not compatible.
I would also like to control a third midi instrument with the caps lock keyboard at the same time. Basically what I'm trying to achieve is to have two friends over and each pick out a drum set and all three jam away together "A Midi drum circle"
Can somebody please walk me through how I should be setting this up?
All help and suggestions are welcome
    Thank you all in advance,
    Aaron

By "devices" you mean patches or programs listed on
    the synth, right?
Yes. When I add the keyboard to the environment GM MIDI is automatically chosen. The sounds play through the keyboard speakers rather than my monitors. At first, I thought my keyboard voices were playing. I started looking at how to access the voices that come with the keyboard, even did some reading up on it, but didn't quite understand. (I have been able to use them as an audio track, but not MIDI.) I discovered they could be added individually or a set may be downloaded and installed (could not find one). After failure with each I came here.
    What synth is it?
    Yamaha DGX-505.
The bank select window will not provide a patch list.
Some mfrs use a cutomized way to select banks-so
Logic offers this window in case you have one of
    them.
If I ever find a patch list how would I install it?
