Casio keyboard connection through 3.5mm jack

Just got new imac 27 inch, trying to connect a casio ctk 1100 musical keyboard through the 3.5mm input jack on the back, it seems to register in the sound preference screen but no sound is heard through the imac speakers, i want to use it with garageband but this doesent see the keyboard, am i missing something here or do i need some sort of input device, the keyboard only has a 3.5mm output jack. thanks

When the keyboard is connected and you go to System Preferences->Sound; Input you have Line IN selected as your input correct?
Now when you hit a key on the keyboard does the input level display light up? Do you have input volume turned up? Is there a volume control on the keyboard?
How are the inputs in Garage Band (Garage Band->Preferences->Audio/MIDI) set?
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - BTW the keyboard output does work ok if plugged into another device, say headphones?

  • Is there any way to keep the music playing through the headphones connected through the headphone jack, while also playing the music through a bluetooth device, such as speakers - so the audio is coming out of both devices simultaneously?

When I connect my bluetooth speakers, the sound stops coming out of the headphones (connected via the hardwire jack), and then comes back when I turn off the bluetooth speakers. I would like to have audio coming out of both...
    Anyone?

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

  • I have a new sound bar that I plug my phone into through the headphone jack. I also have a bluetooth speaker that I want to play through as well. Is there anyway I can play to both devices at once?

I have a speaker that I am connecting through my headphone jack but I have a bluetooth speaker in another room that I want to play through as well. Is there anyway I can play to both speakers at once? I saw another post on line that suggested going to the Audio MIDI setup and adding additional output devices. The problem is, I see that on my computer but nothing for my iphone. Can this work? I have also seen things for airplay and of course this is all making my mind fuzzy. Help!

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • I connected my brand new iPod Classic 160 GB to my brand new Sony home entertainment system through the headphone jack (to the audio line in). The volume is ridiculously low. Can somebody help me out here?

I connected my brand new iPod Classic 160 GB to my brand new Sony home entertainment system through the headphone jack (to the audio line in). The volume is ridiculously low. Can somebody help me out here?

Make sure the volume on the iPod is turned up fully, since this will affect what you hear through the stereo.
Make sure Volume Limit is set to full. (From Main Menu, Settings/Volume Limit)
If you purchased your iPod inside the EU (European Union), then the maximum volume from the headphone jack is lower than elsewhere in the world. If this is the case, buy yourself a 30-pin Dock Connector to 3.5mm jack lead, such as the one linked here...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Decrescent-Connector-Stereo-Auxiliary-iPhone/dp/B007NIE5 EE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386012456&sr=8-1&keywords=30+pin+to+3.5mm
That connector will take a higher volume out (than the European Union's output) and that will be louder (and hopefully loud enough) through your stereo.

  • How to connect apple tv to normal speakers with 3.5mm jack?

I have recently brought apple tv, it works great with my tv. But I have optoma HD200x projector which, I think, don't have audio out. I understand that I need optical audio cable to connect it to speakers but I have JBL radial speakers with 3.5mm jack. Which cable is required as no optical audio port on jbl dock.
    Thanks

You need to connect optical to a DAC that can output analogue stereo (serach for monoprice here) or have an amp/speaker that acepts optical.
Assuming you'll hook up HDMI to the Optoma it's worth considering whether or not thsi convertes HDMI audio and has an analogue 3.5mm or RCA jack out (or headphones socket) - that might work but would entail an extra lead from the projector.

  • Can i connect my iPad1 to my 2009 rav 4 through the aux jack?

Can i connect my iPad1 to my 2009 rav 4 through the aux jack? If so, what accessories do I need to make this happen?

Yes that won't be a problem ... All you need is a cable that has both ends that look like the plug for earphones ... Any electronics store will have them ... It uses the car stereo as the headphones ... You may have to use the iPad to control the music and use both volume controls. I would have the on full volume and adjust it to your preference with the stereo, however if you don't have the iPad plugged in to a power source then I would consider only using half volume to save battery life.

  • Can I plug in my Amplifier using the 3.5mm jack without using a a preamp

    Hello Everyone
OK so I am using a PC at the moment. but I am thinking of transitioning to Mac.
I been looking around the Internet and have seen people commenting on the fact that you may need a pre-amp to connect certain appliances (more than just headphones) I am looking at the Mac Book Pro 15" but without the Retina display. I have an amp, it's not new, a little out dated but works like a charm and I got some decent speaker to go with it. I listen to a lot of music, the way I got it plugged in is through a RCA cable to a 3.5mm jack which goes into my laptop and it works fine.
I was wondering if I can literally do the same on a Mac Book Pro 15" just plug it in and no problem without the need for a pre-amp because the connection is too weak to pick up the amp.
This may sound silly but that's about the only thing that is stopping me going into a store and getting one, I looked around the Internet and it's just loads of sites about ladies and gents trying to plug their guitars in.
If anyone can help I would be grateful and thank you in advance.
if you need any more information then please let me know I would be happy to give as much as I can.

I would like to add that I have tried it my self and it does work no problem. Hope this helps anyone who has had the same issue.

  • Trying to record the sounds in my casio keyboard to garageband

I have a decent quality casio keyboard with midi. The midi works fine when recording midi sounds in garageband. However I will occasionally want to use the sounds built into my keyboard since some of them are better than the garageband sounds.
Ive taken a line out from the keyboard and connected it to the audio in port on my mac and set up a new track as a real instrument track. As soon as I do this the green volume indicaters go to halfway and Im not able to record anything.Im just getting a load of distorted inteference.Im using the built in input in garageband.
The only way Im able to record the keyboard is through the built in mic in garageband which is picking up the keyboard sounds but it doesnt sound too great.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Cheers

hi bro , i use my irig to connect my guitar to garageband, before i upgrade the system it's all fine , but after i upgrade the system to mountain lion , my instrument cannot be founded. and my line input cannot receive signals as well, i'm using irig and  the cable is fine . Is there any solution for this issule : ) thanks

  • Connecting a phono audio-jack to my speaker output...

Hi can you help, its prob just me but you maybe able to help. I have bought a left&right phono audio cable with a 3.5mm jack wanting to connect my audio from the vision box to a speaker souce but have tried but it does not seem to work. ive also tryed swapping the the phono cables round incase this is causing a problem + i have tryed my tv phono outputs as well.
Yes its kinda a dumb question but ive tried & seem to have failed. Many thanks if you can help,
    Kevin

I think you might find that if you pull any stereo jack half out, you only get one side, or a mono signal coming through.
Plug it up again, then go to your tv's audio settings, you may well have to turn that output on. .

  • HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 2951

    Hello,
I want to connect HDMI connection through PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series and Nvidia GTX 295\but i cant tell which of the pins on the Audio Card is the Spdif.

CRe: Mic not working (PCI Express X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Pro Series)? Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
The headset is connected via the 3.5mm jacks in the card.
I believe I have it working now. I ended up having to unstall the drivers and software, reboot, install drivers and software and then mess with the settings. The only issues that I am having now is that I hear a a really high sort of feedback/hiss tone from the headphones now. To correct this I have to turn the input for the microphone down really low within the Windows 7 controls for the microphone and turn it up with Ventrilo to get the mic to work and remove the feedback/hiss.
I believe that the issue stems from the flexjack setting. The whole flexjack thing really seems to mess with the microphone settings. I believe I choose line-in instead of microphone.
Once I get home tonight from work, I will hopefully post the exact settings I came up with to get the mic to work.

  • Does anyone have any info re 3.5mm jack microphones on the Mac Pro?

Please, don't refer me to the manufacturer...am working on that, in the meantime i'm looking for anyone that might have OTHER information or suggestions regarding this issue...
Bought a GE PC Microphone, a very simple on with a 3.5MM jack. The package specifically says "Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems"
I plug it into the Audio Line In on the back of my Pro (just purchased barely a few weeks ago) and the nothing happens...no sound is registered or recorded.
I've gone to preferences pane and selected "Line In" as opposed to "Digital Line In", and nothing....
Is there some silly thing I'm over looking. When I read the Mac Pro User Manual regarding that particular port it refers to use of:
    " Analog audio line-in port
Connect self-powered microphones, MP3 and CD players, and other devices with analog
    capability"
The mic is simple, has no power source, only the 3.5MM jack...should it not work?
Any help (other than the already perfectly obvious contact the mfr of the mic, or plain old return/exchange the mic" will be greatly appreciated. If that's what i have to do ,it's what i'd have to do, but i'd like some validation that there is NOT anything I am missing before doing so.
    Thanks!

    Hi JamilMereck,
first of: you can edit previous posts in a time-frame of some minutes (haven't measured it ...).
    After that they become non-editable.
I admit I have used microphones some years back with and without PCs (have switched to Macs 2.5 years ago).
But I always had the mics connected to a mixing desk, which provided Phantom Power.
Since I gave up my 'Singing Career' (wasn't good enough) I also abandoned the use of microphones.
    To your questions:
It might be that PCs with specified Microphone-In ports are also providing power to them or the microphones themselves do not need any power.
And the 'compatible with...' refers to the usage on computers in general.
The iMic from Griffin works with OSX 10.5 (scroll down on the webpage to 'Product Compatibility' the left icon symbolizes OSX 10.5).
As said above, I am no longer up-to-date in usage of microphones, but when you want to use a microphone with the standard connector you have to get either a microphone preamp or a mixer.
If you use the mic only (really only) with your Mac Pro, you might wanna look for USB-connected mics from Samson or Audio Technica for example.
And don't get upset, I understand you fully and any kind of 'insult' is for the manufacturers and not for me

  • IPod freezes when played thru 3.5mm jack

When my iPod played on any device through the 3.5mm jack, from portable units to my car system, the iPod plays 1 to 3 songs, then freezes, even when fully charged. It then has to be unplugged, let sit for a while, and then the cycle can start over again. I have not tried it with a unit that works through the power plug (in the bottom) at this point.
The unit is a 30g, series 3 or 4 (not sure), and only has about 12g on it.

Good question but I have to say that I don't know: Never used them. I hate the earbuds so I use headphones from a RIO unit. They worked OK about 4 months ago but I haven't tried them since the problems started. I will do that as soon as the pod gets fully charged.
I also noticed that the battery doesn't seem to be holding a charge as long as it used to. It discharges to almost 50% within minutes of being turned on. I wonder if this has anything to do with the overall problem.

  • ThinkVision L2461x - No audio - is HDMI connection forcing the audio jack input off?

I have an XP machine with multiple DVI video cards (n analogue blue d connector though). I have used an HDMI adaptor to DVi so I can connect the ThinkVision L2461x to my PC  via the HDMI cable. Video works great, touch is good to (single only). Even the camera is OK. But no audio.
The mute is off, the volume at max, but not a squeak. I wondered if the digital HDMI input was shutting off the audio from the 3.5mm jack. If so, can I over ride this?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi gadgetboy,
DVI does not support audio function. Even you have got converter but DVI does not have audio channel.

  • IPad 2 connection through internet sharing

This may be answered somewhere else on the discussions, but I would like some assistance in connecting an iPad 2 to the internet through an iMac that is connected through an Alltel wireless card.  In the iMac, I've turned Internet Sharing on, and the airport is also on.  What am I missing ? ? ?   Or is it not possible ? ? ?

    Jack:
I wrote this on an earlier thread and it seemed to help another user so give it a try. Bold type is specific to you. Ignore anything you already know. I'm not sure if you can share the connection from a wireless connection (you CAN share from ethernet) but these are the steps and it may work.
OK if you selected Internet Sharing on the Mac you must also select
Share your Connection from - Ethernet (select ethernet) I think you would choose the Airport option since your are using a wireless card
To Computers Using - Airport (your iPad is the computer using Airport in this case)
Then you may have to select the Internet Sharing option again - put a checkmark in the box
Then go to Security in your preferences and select Firewall - turn off the Firewall to allow incoming connections to your Mac
Make sure you have Airport enabled on your Mac and go up to the Airport icon at the top of the screen, click on it, and drop down to select - Create Network. A box will come up and it should offer your computer's name as the default network name. You can name the network whatever you like. Then create a password.
This should be what you need to do to get connected. Once you do all of the steps on the Mac, reboot your iPad, go to Settings>WiFi>Network and select your new network.
