Casio keyboard wakes up iMac whenever it is turned on

we hooked my son's Casio keyboard to our new iMac, but whenever he turns the Casio keyboard on or off, it wakes up the iMac (even though we are not using the computer when this happens. it is a minor inconvenience to have to run over to the iMac to put it back to sleep when this happens. is this bad for the iMac?

Your going to have to unplug the keyboard from the mac if you don't want it waking up when it's turned on and off. But it's not going to hurt your imac... well is seven or eight years it may make a small noticeable impact but don't worry about it.

  • Wake on LAN/Keyboard wake for a K8N Neo Platinum - how do I use this?

I've got a K8N Neo Platinum motherboard that I am using in my home theater PC and I was hoping to enable either the wake on lan or keyboard wake functions so that they could be controlled via a remote control. For now disregard what the overall outcome I want to achieve is... what I want to know is if enabling the WOL and/or keyboard wake function will allow me to turn on the PC from a completely powered down state as opposed to just powering up from a sleep/hybernation mode. I have read people with other motherboards have been able to power up by using their keyboard, mouse or even WOL when the computer is totally shut down. I'm trying to avoid leaving the PC in a sleep/hybernation mode due to electricity usage. Does this motherboard have the ability to power up when the whole system is shut down?
Also, what key on the keyboard is used to wake up the computer? The manual and bios instructions say nothing about what key needs to be pressed to wake it up.

I know you can set various wake options in the bios. Check there!
You can wake up the computer by wriggling the mouse or pressing any key, if the options are enabled in the bios.
    Hope this helps

  • BT mouse/keyboard won't wake my iMac

Occasionally, once or twice a month, the BT mouse and keyboard will not wake my iMac 27" 2.8 GHz i5 OS X 10.6.7. I must force close computer with the power button. I can hear the fan faintly kick in. Everything is fine when it turns back on.

The only solution is to use Apple supported Bluetooth hardware (which the Targus isn't).
Most third-party USB Bluetooth Adapters will work for some functions (such as simple file transfers), but unless it is Apple supported, specific Apple features such as Wake from Sleep and even iSync often do not work.
The ONLY Apple supported Bluetooth hardware is either the built-in BT hardware in Macs, or the D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth Adapter.
It's always best to stick with what Apple recommends to ensure 100% compatibility and support.

  • Cannot wake my iMac from sleep

I put my iMac to sleep by doing one of required steps. However, I cannot wake my iMac from sleep. I am using a wired keyboard and a wireless mouse.
May I know what is the problem?

    Hi nihow-
    But you are not done.
One of those devices is preventing your mac from waking. You may want to try plugging them back in one at a time and use it for a while to see if you can find the culprit.

can i use a non-apple keyboard with my imac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can use the keyboard you want with your iMac. However, note that some keys, as the Command key, aren't present in non-Apple keyboards. For example, in a non-Apple keyboard, you have to press the Windows key because that's the replacement of the Command key of an Apple keyboard

  • Wake-on-Demand wakes my iMac constantly

    Hi,
Just discovered my iMac supports "Wake on Demand" across wireless, so turned it on. The iMac offers EyeTV Library Sharing, EyeTV Remote Scheduling (over My EyeTV), Screen Sharing, iTunes Sharing and File Sharing. Later, I'd like it to act as a VPN server (using iVPN).
I'm finding, however, that the iMac will wake up only mere minutes after being put to sleep now, despite not having been accessed by me (at least, not so far as I'm aware). I've confirmed that the "Wake on Demand" is responsible by turning it off and noting the unwanted behaviour stops. The only other computer on the network is my MBP (and my iPod touch which, though mostly sleeping these days, apparently constantly maintains a network presence according to AppleCare). Apple's article on Wake On Demand states that:
+Macs that have Wake on Demand enabled will occasionally wake for a brief time, without lighting the screen, in order to maintain registrations with the Bonjour Sleep Proxy.+
In my case the screen does comes on, and the machine doesn't go back to sleep after a "brief time"---or at all, in fact, without my intervention.
Anyone suggest what the problem is, and hopefully an associated workaround?

This may seem obvious, but the article also mentions this near the beginning:
    {quote}When a request is made to access a shared item on a Mac running Snow Leopard, the Bonjour Sleep Proxy asks that Mac to wake and handle the request. Once that request is complete, the Mac will go back to sleep at its regularly-scheduled interval *as set in the Computer Sleep section of the Energy Saver preferences pane.*{quote}
Could the reason for the machine not returning to sleep be that it is not set as such in the Energy Saver preferences?

  • Does anyone know where I can get a replacement keyboard for my imac G5 power PC purchased in December 2005

Does anyone know where in the UK or Ireland I can get a replacement keyboard for my imac G5 power PC purchased in December 2005. Running Mac OSX 10.4.1.1?

Not sure where in Ireland to look, but be aware that SOME Apple Aluminum boards will work with 10.4.11. The first Al boards and those through the first few months of 2011 were compatible with any Mac running OS 10.4.11 and having USB ports. Then they changed them to require 10.6.8 for full function.
The ones compatible with 10.4.11 (MB110LL/A) have the icon for Dashboard on the F4 key; the later ones (MB110LL/B) have an icon consisting of six tiny rectangles grouped to form a larger rectangle. The keyboard boxes are nearly identical except for:
the system requirements printed on the front panel
the back panel on the first model reads "Keyboard" where the newer model reads "Keyboard with Numeric Keypad."
When looking for older parts, always consider a Mac User Group:

  • TS3048 My wireless apple keyboard for my Imac has gone haywire.

The wireless keyboard for my iMac has gone haywire. The signal to the computer appears to be corrupted. When I turn it on it automatically fills in all the spaces in the box where I am supposed to type in my password at startup in order to complete booting up. It will not allow me to erase any of the letters to properly type in the password, but repaetedly fills in the spaces to capacity. It will also affect & turn on the audio volume & just goes mad until I turn it off when the computer returns to normal - although of course this means that I am unable to log in to access anything. Tried changing the keyboard batteries but no different. Any thoughts please??

  • Connect multiple 2 apple wireless keyboards to one imac computer

How to connect several apple wireless keyboards to one imac? Ive got 2 apple keyboards that I want keep and use in different rooms (have more screens connected there). I manage to connect my logitech edge keyboard and mouse in addition to the already connected apple magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard. But it does not seem as if the imac will accept another apple wireless keyboard?

    Hello Steve:
I have not had a similar problem so I am fishing a bit. I think the problem is rooted in what I thought in my previous post.
    Now, how to fix it?
    Try this:
Go to system preferences>bluetooth. Delete any KB entries there. Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist). Be sure that on and discoverable are checked in the BT preference pane. Restart your computer.
Hopefully, whatever KB you have turned on will be "discovered."

  • I have a keyboard that i'd like to use...don't hate me, but, it's my old microsoft keyboard. My IMAC isn't recognizing it. Is there any way I might get it to work? Thanks!

Is it possible to sync my old microsoft keyboard to my IMAC?  I don't have the funds to buy a new one right now and like a larger keyboard...don't hate me...I love my MAC but need a larger keyboard for now.
    Thanks!!!

USB keyboards are generic and should work without any difficulty.
If it's a wireless keyboard, it may or may not work, depending on the drivers Microsoft uses. The following instructions apply to Apple Bluetooth keyboards but it may be useful as a general resource: Bluetooth: How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard. Be sure to refer to the Bluetooth Quick Assist link as well.
More information may be found in Bluetooth frequently asked questions
There is no way to know whether your keyboard will work or not in advance, but there is no harm in attempting to use one or the other.
