Cat eats cord

Please help.  Don't know what Mac is using to make their cords, but its the ONLY cord my cat chews on.  I've gone through THREE!!!  My husbands says "one more time and the cat is gone!"  :-(  please help.  I've cover it with hot sauce/water mix and let it dry but she chewed it anyway.  UG!

@MGW
My cat also thinks our Persian rugs is his personal scratching posts.  Never could break him out of this habit.  Luckly, he's declawed.
My cat loves to swim in a bathtub full of bubbles.  He jumps in, swims around snapping at the bubbles, jumps out & spends hours grooming himself off. Reason why there is a sign on the bathroom door---KEEP CLOSED!
Remember the swimming cat that was on the old TV series Beverly Hillbillies?

  • Time Capsule - Can it run as DHCP router, create a wireless network and plug into switch for wired network all at the same time?

    I have a closet with Wired connections from all over the house terminating in it. I also have the internet modem and a switch in this closet. My old setup was a netgear in the closet creating a wireless network and also feeding the Ethernet ports all over the house. In my room, I had an Airport express (a month old) bridging the wifi to make the wifi network larger. The Express was hard wired from the wall and my mac mini was using it's wifi (printer was plugged into other ethernet port). Everything was working great.
    Fast forward to last week. My Netgear died. So, I bought a time capsule. My plan was to move the Express to the closet and have it create the wifi network and also then run cat 5 cord from express to the switch to feed all the wired wall plugs. Reset it and set it up to create the wifi network as well as DCHP NAT. Wireless was running great on it. Then I plugged in the Cat 5 in the second Ethernet Port to the switch. Wifi stopped working and none of the computers would connect using wired connections either. They would see a 'network' but nothing would work. I would unplug the Cat 5 feeding the swtich and the wireless would start working again. Plug the Cat 5 back in and wireless would stop.
    So I thought I would try the Time Capsule in the closet and see if I could get it to work. Pretty much the same thing, except at this point I figured out if I went in and told it NOT to create a wifi network the wired portion worked fine and all the wired computers in the house worked fine. Of course, then I didn't have Wifi.
    I'm not clueless when it comes to networking, but I can NOT figure this out! Can either the Time Capsule or Express Create the wifi network AND also feed the data to the switch for all the wired computers?
    To simplify this is what I want my end result to be. I prefer the Time Capsule to be the wireless connection extender, but if I have to have the Express do it, I'm fine with that.
    1. Express in the closet creating the wifi network as well as feeding the data to the wired connections via my switch.
    2. have the Time capsule in my room at the opposite end of the house plugged into the hard wired connection to extend the wrieless network as well as have wired connections such as my printer and my Mac Mini.
    If I can get #1 to work, I don't think I'll have any problems with #2. Help!

    I have an equally complex setup with a managed switch actually but I have never seen the TC have this kind of issue.
    What I do notice is you have changed the TC from defaults.. you are using a non-default IP range.
    I have run across issues like this where people move things from default.
    I would like you to start over.. factory reset the TC. That will set it back to default router mode.
    Do the min setup on the TC..
    1. Change all names from what you were using. That includes the TC name and wireless name/s
    Make them short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric because that is the correct way to network. Apple default names with spaces and apostrophes are fundamentally bad.
    2. With just the TC plugged into the switch.. and a single computer connected by ethernet. Power cycle the whole network.. this allows the switch to clear all the old MAC address.
    3. Test on the computer just ethernet. Turn the wireless off.
    The computer must use dhcp and must get an ip from the TC.
    It has to get the correct Router.. ie Gateway.. I wish apple could stick with proper network terminology.
    And it must get same address or valid DNS server address/es.
    If it fails.. please plug ethernet directly to the TC.. bypassing the switch.
    You should get the standard IP addressing and internet connection.
    If not please post the screenshot from the Mac of the network preferences showing the ethernet setup.
    I need to see what address it does get. I need you to make sure the ethernet is the TOP of the list. So rearrange the order of network connection. With the airport off it should just go to the top of the list.
    If it appears to be working .. but a browser cannot connect, open a terminal and ping an internet address.
    Ping the actual gateway address the ISP gives you and ping the ISP dns address.

  • How do I get Ethernet Link Speed stuck at 10 Mbit/s to 100?

    I've 100 Mps Internet service.  My iMac limits ethernet to 10 mps, although the specs say it should be capable of at least 100 mps.  A PC connected to the same Time Capsule gets 100 mps.  My network utility claims the link speed is only 10.  If I try to correct the speed manually, it claims the ethernet cord is not plugged in.  I'm using CAT 5e cord.  How can I fix this?
    iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; OS X 10.8.1

    Thanks!  I've switched the cords to no effect. I fear the Ethernet port (which I've never use before) must be bad.
    Any idea on how I can fix this?

  • Trouble connecting to ethernet network

    For the past 6 months i have been connecting my network via ethernet usin a cat 5e connection.Recently i was at a friends place plugged my laptop into his cat6 cord connection and it worked fine.However when i came back 2 my place and tried to connect to my ethernet connection using my cat 5e cord it was not working. I even brought the cat 6 cord from my friends house back to my room and it worked jus fine with his cat 6 cord and my ethernet connectiong. SO my problem is that the only the cat6 cords works now and the cat5e cord which i had been using since septemeber( on mutilple modem at that) is no longer. Some assistance would be great apprieciated.

  • AirPort Express Not Able to Connect Wirelessly

    Hardware is iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  Mac OS 10.6.8
    Connected to Internet via Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 Modem / Router, so I connect by wireless through the modem.
    I followed the installation instructions to install AirPort Express to play music on my home stereo.  I connected the Airport Express to the receiver by the tape port.  I was not able to install AirpPort Express via wireless mode, so I connected the iMac to the AirPort Express by CAT-5 hard wire cord.  The installation was successful and the AirpPort Express obtained an AP address.  I was then able to play music from iTunes pm the iMac through the stereo speakers...as long as the AirPort Express was connected by hard wire to the iMac.
    When I remove the CAT-5 cord from the AirPort Express, the AirPort Express retains the green light, but it is not able to receive data from the iMac.  To the contrary, the AirPort Utility is not able to find any AirPort wireless devices unless the AirPort Express is connected via the hard wire CAT-5 cord.
    As an experiment, I then connected the AirPort Express to the cable modem / router via the hard wire CAT-5 cord.  The AirPort utility on the iMac was still not able to find any AirPort wireless devices.  Further, the model then assigned a different AP address to the iMac so that it was not able to connect to the Internet..
    Meanwhile, the AirPort Express still retains the green light, indicating the installation was a success and that it is ready to transmit.
    Any advice to resolve this issue would be very much appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

    I suggest that you start by performing a "factory default" reset on the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) to get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration. By default, the AXn will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN
    After the reset has completed, plug the AXn into power, and then, verify from the iMac that this network shows up in the list of networks under the AirPort icon in the OS X menu bar. Does it?
    If so, then from the AirPort icon, switch your iMac to connect to the AXn's wireless network. Note: You will temporarily lose the Internet connection from your Motorola router. Then, run the AirPort Utility. The Utility should now find the AXn. If not, use the Utility's "Configure Other" option under the File menu option in the Utility's menu bar. Enter 10.0.1.1 for the Address and "public" for the Password.
    AirPort Utility > Select the AXn > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
    Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    Network Name: <existing Motorola's wireless network>
    Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
    Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
    Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    AirPort Utility > Select the AXn > Manual Setup >Music
    Enable AirPlay (checked)
    iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    Verify Password: (optional)
    Click Update to write the new settings to the AX

  • Return the difference between two strings

    Is it possible to return the difference between two strings?
    For example
    String one = "We went for a walk";
    String two = "We went for a run";
    compare "two" to "one" returns "walk"
    compare "one" to "two" returns "run"I need to return the difference of two strings, one prior to editing and one after editing.
    Then I want to return any difference between the two, which will be the effect of the editing.
    Cheers Alex

    Interesting problem. Before you start writing any code, make up a whole bunch of test case pairs. Decide what the difference between the pairs is. When you start seeing patterns, analyse them. After a while you may have enough data to start writing your program. Here's one test case to get started with:"I saw the cat eat a rat"
    "My cat is hungry"

  • Catch exception

    hi,
    I not really understand how the JSP handle the exception error. for instance:
    Example 1:
    public Vector getData()
    {  if (rs == null)
    return null ;
    Vector rows = new Vector() ;
    try {
    boolean morerecords = rs.next() ;
    if (morerecords)
    do {
    rows.addElement(getNextRow()) ;
    while(rs.next()) ;
    catch(SQLException sqlex)
    {  System.out.println("Get data failed") ;
    rows = null ;
    return rows ;
    Example 2
    public Vector getData()
    {  if (rs == null)
    return null ;
    Vector rows = new Vector() ;
    try {
    boolean morerecords = rs.next() ;
    if (morerecords)
    do {
    rows.addElement(getNextRow()) ;
    while(rs.next()) ;
    catch(Exception e){}
    return rows ;
    My question are:
    1.) For the second example, does the getData return the rows if there has error occured???
    2.) Will the program continue be executing if there has error occur??

    My answers are:
    1. The method will return something. It is possible that it will be bad data.
    2. Yes, the execution will be continued after a CATCHED exception.
    All Exceptions are Throwables.
    There are more types of Throwables:
    -Thhrowable
    --Error
    ---<errors>
    --Exception
    ---RuntimeException
    ---<other exceptions>
    --<other throwables>
    An Error is created when we try to make an intance of an abstract class or interface, or when we try to access a class, which is unaccessable (deleted, etc.), and so on.
    An Exception is created by a method, if an error occured, for example:
    double Divide(double a, double b) throws Exception {
    if (b == 0) throw new Exception("DIVIDE BY ZERO!!!");
    reurn a / b;
    void callDivide {
    double x;
    try {
    x = Divide(16, 0);
    } catch (Exception ex) {
    System.out.println("Divide by zero error.");
    System.out.println("Cats eat mice.");
    This program will print the message
    "Divide by zero error.
    Cats eat mice."
    If we skip the try/catch block, the compiler will print an error message, and no CLASS file will be created.
    BUT if we use a RuntimeException, and we skip the try/catch block, the compiler will create a CLASS file, and it will print an error message and the call stack.
    So, we don't need to catch RuntimeExceptions.
    If there is a method that calls callDivide(), and callDivide doesn't catch RuntimeException but that method does, the execution will be continued, but the "Cats eat mice" sentence will not be printed.

  • Cat Peed on MacBook Pro - What to Do?

    I work from my home office one day a week, and as I'm unpacking my stuff my cat trots up and pees on my open laptop bag. The pee went in the computer at the hinge and when I pulled it out of the bag it was pouring out of the computer at the opposite corner.
    I immediately pulled the battery out and cleaned up the machine as best as I could. But, am wondering how long to let it sit before I try to turn it on? I'm sure the computer it toast, but my boss is hoping it will still work.
    I've also read that cat urine is caustic, so it should be cleaned professionally. The Mac Shop I called said they wouldn't know how they would clean it as they only use air to clean the inside of computers.
    Does anyone have any similar experience? Is this something the Apple store can do?
    Thanks for any advice --
    T.

    Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery. Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain. Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture. Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
    After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer. You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
    Some users here swear by hairdryers. Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components. Better to let the computer air dry.
    Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer.
    Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
    Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
    If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop. Apple Care does not cover liquid or food damage. Since it's a business computer, report it to the insurance company which was already suggested.

  • IMac AC power cord

    Hi, my new iMac was delivered today and the power cord comes with 2-flat pins with a 15 cm green-and-yellow cable at the side. At the end of the cable is a little fork. I am in Hong Kong SAR where the standard is a 3-square-pin plug. No way do our sockets cater for this kind of plug.
    Should I be getting some other type of power cord?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Look in your manual for the AppleCare phone number and contact Apple directly. I would think you should have received the correct power cord for Hong Kong.

  • Magic mouse eats batteries

    My Magic Mouse goes through a pair of batteries every five weeks.  Seems oddly extraordinary considering my MS mouse at work needs new batteries once a year.  Suggestions?

    I agree, this mouse *****! it eats batteries like we are all rich and don't care about the environment.
    Tossing batteries into garbage or recycle who cares it still a waste. People are throwing batteries away left right and center.
    I use rechargeables at home and they die fast also, I use 2200-2600 mah rechargeables brand name or regular doesn't matter. Work doesn't, they just use duracells as their IT guys says they get 6-8 months easy on their USB mice. What's wrong with this Mac stuff?? Cost a lot, looks nice, but high maintenance!! This is the only piece of equipement apple has release in a while that is a pain more than it's beneficial function. When I really need it the most it fails! Even the bluetooth Trackpad that I have works way better last longer than this thing?? Can't you release some firmware to fix this? I have PC mice that last way longer. I may go back to my old cord mouse.

  • Kitten + New Cinema Display = need cord replacement :(

    Well, my cat chewed through the USB cord that is part of the set of three cords that comes out of the beautiful new LED Cinema Display that I bought. Not the nicest morning surprise. I will be covering the cords or shutting the cat out of the office from now on. In the meantime, the USB cord is no longer functional. Fortunately, the power cord and the Mini Display port cord are fine. I am able to plug my keyboard directly in to my MacBook Pro, and use the display that way.
    My question is this: Since I rather expect that either the power or the Mini Display port or both could end up fraying, getting chewed, not working, etc. - are there replacement options for these? Really, I'd like to have the USB cord working, too - so if it's an easy thing, I would like to get the cable replaced now. I am very worried that I will lose $800 worth of equipment because of a need to have a new cable. (The cable doesn't appear to be removable - does anyone know?)
    Thanks for your help.

    Apple could replace the cable, but it won't be cheap. Find a local computer repair store and see if they can cut the end off a new USB cable and splice it on to the display's cable. There are only four wires in the USB part, and if they use shrink tubing over the splice, it shouldn't look too ugly.

  • How can I get a replacement power cord for my Apple Airport Extreme (current generation)?

    My cat chewed through the cord because he's not a very bright creature.

    Contact Apple Support. It would be a good idea to have your AirPort Extreme model number handy. It is on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme.

  • I hope my USB cord doesn't give me can

    I love my Zen Vision:M. But has anyone ever noticed in the manual that it warns/advises to wash your hands after handling the USB transfer cord after every use? Not good. I'm sure an Administrator will read this and I really think it should be addressed. I love my Zen and recommend it to everyone, but all of the components should be safe.Message Edited by drumfetish on -23-2007:35 PM

    I would say that the only way you will get cancer from cords if if you eat a couple hundred of them. Not to make you paranoid, but pretty much every power/audio cord has trace amounts of lead in it. The requirement to "warn" consumers about cords is a fairly new one. No need to fret. Eric

  • 5230 videocamera bug eats battery?

    Hello all. I especially hope that Nokia staff reads this one.
    I am a new 5230 owner and i've been generally happy but i found a major issue.
    One morning the alarm did not wake me up because the battery was dead tired, ie. empty. I got worried. I took energy profiler -program in order to see  when the power consumption is too high. At first i didnt notice anything unusual. I thought that maybe some application crashed or i accidentally left the camera on.
    Then i noticed that EVERYTIME i use my camcorder, and if i use the navi key (or what's that white button between red and green is called) in order to do some multitasking (going to menu was enough) energyprofiler told me that my phone eats around 185ma of power all the time, even when in total standby mode!!! I tried this again and again and again.
    Here's the summary:
    7 times out of 7 i used the camcorder (dont have to record with it) and jumped into a main menu for example WITHOUT quittin the program, the program crashed(?) and it started to eat battery. Tasklist says that camera is not running when i closed it after multitasking.
    When i do the same thing twice with still camera, it worked ok, no excess power consumption.
    If i use my camcorder, even to record something, then quit the corder without doing any multitasking, it works fine.
    I didnt test how long it will keep that higher consumption, i had it for 10-15minutes and it stayed stabile with 185ma on total standby (screen off, keypad lock on etc). I tried to keep red button pressed, in order to shut down everything but no effect what so ever. And since i've already found my phone dead once, i really think this is the reason.
     After hard reset everything becomes normal.
    Comments please. Do anyone else have found similar issue?
    My program firmware is 21.0.004

    In canse i didnt make myself clear on the original post:
    I DID CLOSE THE PROGRAM EVERYTIME after the multtasking. And phone says that camera IS NOT running. But it still eats power as it would run.
