Cat hit random keys on keyboard

I have a 2007 iMac running an up-to-date version of snow leopard. This evening, my cat ran across my keyboard, hitting who knows what keys. Now my iMac behaves as if it perpetually zoomed in. Control '0' does not work, and neither does control 'Z'. According to System Preferences, my screen resolution is still 1680x1050. I rebooted without success. The login screen was standard resolution, but after that, everything else is magnified at least 2X. The nearest Genius Bar is 75 miles and at least one blizzard removed. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Nevermind. In the System Preferences, when I went to 'Universal Access', I was able to find out that that 'control 8' was systemspeak for 'zoom in'. Once that was de-selected, my system returned to normal. I thought only windows boxes did random screen resolution changes...

Hello Anthony,
This is one of those rare occasions when you could mark the post as 'solved'.   You won't get any points for yourself but it will tell other people that a solution has been found if anyone has the same problem.  (Albeit the cat will be different).

  • Random keys on keyboard malfunction.

Its been about three days since the problem first presented itself. Using my USB keyboard random keys such as ", w,3, num lock 5 key, capital p, and the right arrow key. I am using the on-screen keyboard to help me write this post.
Things I have tried (according to research via google):
Trying a different keyboard. Same problem, temporary fix for roughly thirty minutes.
Trying a different USB port (front and back). Failed.
Uninstalling keyboards on device manager. Rebooting, failed.
Ease of access, keyboard shortcuts, sticky keys, filters. All of that now unchecked and failed.
Turning computer off, holding power button down for 10 seconds
    Computer specs:
Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit.
AMD phenom II X4 945 Processor
    8GB RAM
    AMD RADEON HD 5450
    Keyboard: Steelseries Shift
    Mouse: Razer Deathadder
Sidenote/story: I modified my Razer Deathadders lights on the razer logo and scrollwheel to have them off. As soon as I turned them back on my keyboard started working just fine. Then shortly after five minutes it went back to having problems.

Because you mentioned in the sidenote/story that you adjusted the settings for your Razer Deathadder and had success for a few minutes,  have you thought to, perhaps, uninstall the software to see if the issue goes away permanently?  I don't know of any reason that it would have conflicts with anything else on your computer, but it might be an interesting troubleshooting step to try.  Other than that suggestion, I wouldn't know where to go with this...
Good luck, I wish you the best with this.

  • JavaScript Slideshow: how to hit a key when keyboard isn't shown?

    Hi All,
There is a Site with some Images presented using a JS slideshow. There is a keyboard control implemented, e. g. hit 'space' for next image. Since there is no textfield detected by safari the virtual keyboard doesn't appear and I cannot use the keyboard controls. Any hint or do I something wrong?
    Thank you.

Using my Mac it's possible to use the Keyboard for navigating through all Images, of course. I don't have an external Keyboard on my iPad.

  • Get "no bootable device- insert boot disc and hit any key" error

    Hp G72 Laptop, Windows 7 64 bit,
"no bootable device-insert boot disc and hit any key" (I have no boot disc.)
I was in the process of replacing the hard drive and the computer was starting the final phase after copying all files. When it restarted the first time, I got the message. I was getting this message randomly prior to replacing the hard drive and if I turned it off for 2 or 3 hours and turned back on I would not get the message. The reason for replacing the hard drive was a "Smart Disc " imminent failure error message.

Yes and yes. The final recovery disc had completed and it was moving to the next phase. It said the computer would restart several times during this phase and when it went to the first restart, the error message came up and I could proceed no further. I ctrl/alt/del and restarted, pressed escape to get the start-up menu but was lost at all the options. The information screen looked like the old hard drive info.

  • Sound keys on keyboard no longer control sound. What should I do to fix this?

Sound keys on keyboard no longer control sound. What should I do to fix this?

    Hey Bill,
Check to see if the option for "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys." is turned off. When it is turned on, you would need to hold the Fn key while hitting one of those keys will make it work they way icons are displayed. To find out where this option is, go to System Preferences > Keyboard and in the Keyboard tab is where you want to be. Take a look at the article below for more information.

I have a keyboard Impulse 61. I have it hooked up to the imac and then to a bose speaker thru bluetooth and i have a long sound delay from when i hit a key until i hear sound. Is ther a fix for this delay?

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • Adobe Camera Raw ACR crashes instantly when hitting accent key

I just lost several hours of work because ACR 8 with PS CC2014 crashes every time you hit the accent key ´ which is under to the Volume up and down keys on a German keyboard.
An error message says: "The command could not be completed because of a program error." See screenshot.
    Is that a known bug?
    Thank you
    Marco
BTW: The ACR interface looks like it's from the nineties. How long will Adobe drag this through upgrades?

…I am not talking about any dialog boxes here…
    …<sigh !>…
    Yes you are, Marco.
The Adobe Camera RAW window is a modal dialog box.  All its tabs are modal dialog boxes.
All dialog  boxes MUST close when the Escape key is pressed, or a key that somehow acts somewhat like the Escape key is pressed.
You cannot get around that, Marco.  Sorry if that irritates you, but that is reality.
All we do here is try to help people and offer workarounds.
If you're prone to hitting that key too often accidentally, perhaps the workaround would be for you to disable it, either by re-mapping the offending software keyboard layout, or by physically removing or otherwise disabling it in your hardware keyboard.
If the Adobe Camera Raw Team determines it is an Apple OS bug in the mapping of that key on a German keyboard, I can guarantee you that it will be quite a while before Apple fixes that.
I am now assuming you're on a Mac because of the interface shown in your screen shot.
I understand you are frustrated, and I feel for you for having lost many hours of work for a momentary gesture of inattention, but so far you have not given any details whatsoever about your setup.

  • Speed of random key access

    hi,
we have a bdb with around 1 million entries in it. keys are small (~20 bytes), values are large (~2k). i was just wondering if there are any strategies for optimizing random key access. basically, we run operations where we end up with a collection of keys (say 20), which we then iterate through, retrieving each entry. is there any strategy for optimizing this? (e.g. sorting keys in the same order as the database.)
    thanks,
    -james

    Hi James,
Sorting keys certainly won't hurt, but unless there's a good chance of locality of some of the keys you'll still hit random spots on the disk. If keys are sorted in insertion order, then it's likely that there will be locality. Alternatively, if you can sort to insertion order (if insertion order != key order), that might work too. Again, it depends on the proximity of the keys in your 20-key set.
But a more fundamental question is whether you can just allocate a large enough cache to fit the entire database in memory. You can load the entire database using Database.preload(); If you can't increase the cache size, then you could try cleaning the log to a smaller size. This increases the likelihood of hits in the file system cache. But cleaning to a higher minUtilization is also expensive.

  • When I shut the lid to my computer and then open it again the screen comes on and then goes black and I have to press random keys to make it show again.  Does anyone know why this is happening?

When I close my lid to make the computer sleep and I open it back up again when I am ready to use it the screen turns on and then turns black.  I have to press random keys to make the screen show again.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

First, before you sleep your MBP, make sure you either scroll down the Apple menu to sleep your machine, or do it even more easily by pressing CMD-OPTION - DiskDrive (upper right hand corner of your keyboard). I wouldn't just close your machine to let it sleep.
It's hard to know exactly what's happening, but here are a few pointers.
    1. Go to System Preferences/Energy Saver and make sure you've set a sleep time of more than two or three minutes. Your machine may be trying to sleep too early. In the same preferences, set Computer Sleep to more than ten minutes, to make sure you don't get an unintentional sleep.
    2. Take a look for third-party applications you might have installed.
    Post here with your results!

  • My power mac g4 was working fine i hit a key and it shut down and now it has the symble of the firewire slot floting around the screen and i can not get it to start back up

my power mac g4 was working fine i hit a key and it shut down and know it has a symble floting around the screen like the firewirs symble and ot wont turn back on how do i fix it

It does sound like the T key is stuck.
One way to test to see if the keyboard is at fault is to disconnect the keyboard, then start up the Mac.
Note - on that model, you can force a shutdown by holding in the power button (the one on the front panel of the machine) for 8 to 10 seconds.
You can also force a restart by pressing the small convex (bulges out slightly) button under the power button on the front panel (it's the one on the left).

  • Non-responsive keys on keyboard.

    Hi guys,
I hope someone can help me out figuring out my problem. I have MacBook Pro 13-inch, Late 2011, Processor  2,8 GHz Intel Core i7 Serial Number  C02HG0WKDV14 Software  OS X 10.9.5 (13F34).
One day I turned my mac on and it had "M" key stuck, it just kept typing this key. I tried resetting SMC, PRAM and all advices on-line with no success so decided to open it and clean it all up.
During the clean up I accidentally pealed off the black foil on the backlit which I thought caused the following issue of various random keys being non-responsive. So I bought new backlit which in the end did not fix it at all.
Bellow are highlighted the non-responsive keys
One thing I noticed that all keys started to work when was on the plane, probably the pressurized cabin made it work.
Do you by any chance have any ideas what is the problem? How can it be fixed? I just can't live airborne
    Thank you for your help

The best thing to do would be take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs check it out and see what is wrong with the key switches.
By the way, the "pressurized cabin" of a commercial airliner is actually at reduced atmospheric pressure, only about 80% of the pressure at sea level.  That should not have a physical affect, but have the techs check out the keyboard.

  • My computer is possessed: random key presses

I have a weird problem, with a lot of history.
The basics are: for several weeks now, my computer has been possessed with random key presses. Often when I am typing, a random letter will pop up, or my mouse will click at random times. For example, when I am playing an online game, a grenade will randomly get thrown, or my right mouse button will trigger, even though I didn't press it. But it is not limited to the game, it is in all applications.
My basic question: is there a program that can record or show not only key presses, but where the press came from? I don't know if it is a hardware or software problem.
Hardware I have: Apple Keyboard, Belkin n52, and a Logietch MX Revolution (just received yesterday, so the problem is older then the mouse).
For software, I am running ControllerMate, so it might be the culprit (I have a few simple layouts, so it is not some random node that is running).
To top it all off: about a month ago, I was banging (fake typing) on my keyboard, and my "a" key quit working... for two days. Then it started again. Maybe these random key presses are from a bad keyboard... but would it be able to generate mouse clicks?
ADDED: Yesterday I ran Disk Utility from my install disk and both repaired permissions and repaired disk (there were some problems with the disk), but the problem still exists.
    I am so confused...

    For example:
I have a button on my n52 that changes settings for me, and when this button is pushed, one of the LEDs lights up, and I get a Growl notification.
In the last 20 minutes, this button has been "pushed" three times, even though I have not touched my n52.
I have no idea why this is happening, and it is starting to annoy me.
