Cat3750 Standby Group limitation

Hello,
I got a problem regarding the limitation of standby groups. As you can see below, we never put the vlan interfaces in groups, so they`re all in group 0 by default. Now, by trying to add another virtual interface to one of  the two core switches, i got an error message that the amount of groups is limited to 32. I dont understand that. In my opinion, all interfaces are in group 0 ?!?
Even if i try to put, for example, interface 402 in another group, the error message appears.
Besides i`m still not sure what that groupes are made for, what`s best practice for this scenario?
thanks in advance

  • WAE standby group and L2 redirection mask-assignment not compatible?

I have a WAE-674 connected to two 6509 switches (sup720). The two WAE ports are in a standby group. I'm also using WCCP L2 redirection from 6509 to the WAE, but I remember in older WAAS software, WAE standby group was not compatible with L2 redirection mask-assignment. Only hash could be used.
Is it still the same with the newer 4.2.1 software? I couldn't find specifics in its documentations.
    Thanks
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
I believe you are talking about this defect: CSCso66693
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?caller=pluginredirector&method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCso66693
Now, Standby interface does work with L2 Masking.
    Details about virtual standby interface:
The virtual standby interface uses the MAC address of the active interface. Standby interfaces remain unused unless an active interface fails. When an active network interface fails (because of cable trouble, Layer 2 switch failure, or other failure), and that interface is part of a standby group, a standby interface can start to carry traffic and take the load off the failed interface. With standby interface configuration, only one interface is in use at a given time.
CLI command: show interface standby 1
Please note that VB interface bridging is not supported when you are using  standby interface feature.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

<p>Hi,</p><p>This may not be the forum for this, but I figured that if I am trying to make a treemenu function as a replacement for the group tree in CR that it is somewhat relevant...</p><p>I got a production system to run a test and it seems that the Crystal reports group tree control can easily display 3000+ items, no errors, warnings or any other abnormal behaviours. I&#39;ve already discovered that in my case I need to break up the levels into smaller strings, but the page size becomes an issue. There are no ways that i have found to duplicate the group tree functionality with that many levels. • Bbm group limitation

    Hi
don't know if it is possible to synchronize two different groups together as a result of limitation caused by the 30 member limit. For a group that has exceeded that limit what can be done when there is a need to have another one to keep them up to date with each other? Will appreciate any suggestion or upgrade to that respect from RIM

... sync what? So that the chat and convo from Group One goes automatically into Group Two?
I don't know an automatic way for that. One person could "copy chat" in one group and paste it to the second, it all I can think of.

  • HSRP Group Limitation Problem

    Dear All,
I have 2 3750 switches on which I need to configure HSRP for 26 VLANS.
I have tried configuring one group for vlan 1 - 16 & second group next 16 VLANS. But i still get the error 'platform does not support more than 32 hsrp groups'
What seems to be the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sridhar.

Have you tried to assign unique HSRP group numbers to the 26 different groups you need?
32 HSRP groups is an HW limitation of the 3750 with no workaround available, unlike the 3550 where you could get creative with clumping groups of vlans and re use HSRP group numbers as outlined in:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps646/products_qanda_item09186a00801cb707.shtml
The other thing to consider would be version of IOS.

  • CSM: Sticky groups limitation (1..255)

    Hi,
The number off total different STICKY GROUPS is limited to 255
This limits directly the number off VSERVERS/SERVERFARMS.
In case I have different serverfarms (and each different vserver maps to only 1 different serverfarm)
AND I want them all to be sticky (for example based on source ip address), I will have to configure
a different sticky group for each serverfarm.
This limits the number off vservers/serverfarms also to the maximun number off sticky groups.
    (which is limited to 255)
Correctly or can I bypass this issue?
    Thank you, Wim

    That's correct.
You can use different form of stickyness that do not require a sticky group, like 'predictor hash'.
    Regards,
    Gilles.

  • Sp_addlinkedsrvlogin AD group limitation (workaround? anyone?)

Hello. I have looked all over boards and can't seem to find any elegant (or even hacky) workaround for this situation, hoping some of you geniuses can help. SQL Server 2008
    R2 Enterprise.
We have a linked server to a DB2 server. The current linked server uses an DB2 (Unix) ID/PWD (batchID/service account) to the linked server. We don't have Kerberos and the mixed bag of Windows/Unix would sort of disallow it anyway. The SQL server (while mixed
authentication mode) uses almost exclusively Windows Authentication and we are very good about using AD groups for everything, not INDIVIDUAL windows/sql logins (as part of our corporate security).
The data on the DB2 server will soon have masked confidential fields for individual users but not the batch IDs. To ensure that anyone connecting to our SQL server can't just pull up the the unmasked data, we thought we would create another linked server an
limit it to a specific Windows group - lets call it 'DOMAIN\DBA', that requires unmasked data for processing. Either that or -better- put the 'DOMAIN\DBA' group to the existing linked server mapping to an "unmasked" account on the DB2 side. This
group has sysadmin and consists of a windows service account and prod support staff who have to manually run processes). But it is IMPOSSIBLE to set Windows Group LOGIN permissions on a linked server login. The sp_addlinkedsrvlogin specifically excludes server_principals
type 'G'. Microsoft will not say why, except because they designed this for all linked servers to also be Windows SQL server -  but there you go.
Does anyone know a way to do this without having to add the individual users from the 'DOMAIN\DBA' group to individual logins on the server? That just seems like a maintenance nightmare. This affects about 20 SQL servers in our organization. PLEASE? Anyone?

Is it possible to have SSIS package , bring the data into SQL Server and play with permissions? BTW is it db2 or AS400?

  • Lumia 900 contact groups members limitation.

Anyway to surpass the 20 members per group limitation...I have to say this is really annoying why is it old androids
phone let you have close to unlimited members per group according to your SD card storage, but not for Lumia 900
so I am thinking Nokia should mark this as a play phone not for business usage? I am quite frustrated that I got a
new phone but force to use back my 5800 xpress music because most of my contacts transfer over is kinda screw
up, and yes I have went to a Nokia care center and all they can reply "is a new software is like that". Anyone please
please tell me there is a way to this problem...

Nokia really needs a software update to break this group limitation, can we have more option select in contacts
like not show my hotmail synchronize contacts? This is annoying to see so many contacts that is not really
related. I myself have around 450+ contacts and is been hell to re-enter them after the first sync, because
whenever my contact have more that 1 number it shows ie. Vincent, vincent1, vincent2 really annoying. And why
is it I have to add contacts in a group 1 by 1 why can't I select all that I wish to group together. All this function
were in android phones and might I add is really really really really useful why took all of this away. I have know
people with over thousand contact list how will they be able to use lumia phones for business. I myself have
been using Nokia for 10 years plus and this lumia phone have been a great disappointment so far...

    Hi,
We have deployed the latest WiSM2 controllers, 3500i APs and WCS v7. Currently the HREAP Group limitation is set to 25, does anyone know if this will increase anytime soon ?
I want to allow fast roaming across multiple floors in a building so I need to cache the CCKM on more than 25 APs within the building to allow seamless roaming.

    I believe that Cisco has addressed this with the release of the;

  • HSRP groups / Limit of 32 reached

    Hi there,
Sorry in advance, I speak English with difficulty...
I have a problem with my network core: The limit of 32 groups is reached.
But I have only 32 standby IP address in the group 0...
The message "% More than 32 standby groups not supported in this platform" appeared...
At the moment, I'll create the others groups on others network core, but this solution is temporary.
    My network cores: WS-C3750G-12S-S
    iOS : 12.2(35)SE5 IPBase
So, I have two questions for you please :
Actually in IPBase version, if I will upgrade my switchs with IPService version, is it solved the problem ? is the iOS "IPService" support more than 32 groups ?
Is there an other solution to ensure failover that works like HSRP ? (VRRP ? how many groups are supported ?)
Any other issue or idea is welcome...
    Thank you for all

    Hi,
The maximum amount of 32 instances is the same for HSRP, VRRP and GLBP this is a hardware limitation not a matter of a IOS feature set. That said even if you upgrade to ipservices the amount of groups will not be higher.
    Regards,

  • Multiple members of HSRP group - implications?

I've got a group of 6509's that support a couple dozen IP networks. Recently we ran into the "16 HSRP groups" limitation.
My question is, if I assign multiple VLAN's to a single HSRP group, and one of the member interfaces becomes unavailable, do *all* members of that group go from active to standby? Or just the affected IP/VLAN?

    Hi,
it effects on that particular Vlan not the entire HSRP group.

  • Resizing redo log files on a 3 node RAC with single node standby database

    Hi
On a 3 node 11g RAC system,I have to resize the redo logs on primary database from 50M to 100M. I was planning to do the following steps:
    SQL> select group#,thread#,members,status from v$log;
    GROUP# THREAD# MEMBERS STATUS
1 1 3 INACTIVE <-- whenefver INACTIVE, logfile group can be dropped
2 1 3 CURRENT & resized, switch logfile can change logfile group
    3 1 3 INACTIVE
    4 2 3 INACTIVE
    5 2 3 INACTIVE
    6 2 3 CURRENT
    7 3 3 INACTIVE
    8 3 3 INACTIVE
    9 3 3 CURRENT
    9 rows selected.
    SQL> alter database drop logfile group 1;
    Database altered.
SQL> ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE THREAD 1
    GROUP 1 (
    '/PROD/redo1/redo01a.log',
    '/PROD/redo2/redo01b.log',
    '/PROD/redo3/redo01c.log'
    ) SIZE 100M reuse; 2 3 4 5 6
    Database altered.
However I am not sure what needs to be done for the standby. The standby_file_management is set to auto and it is single instance standby.
    SQL> select group#,member from v$logfile where type='STANDBY';
    GROUP#

    12
    /PROD/flashback/PROD/onlinelog/o1_mf_12_7b44hjcr_.log
    Please let me know.
    Thanks

    Hello;
For Redo and Standby redo this won't help :
    standby_file_management is set to auto
On the Standby cancel recovery, then drop and recreate the redo and or Standby redo.
    Then start recovery again.
Example ( I have a habit of removing the old file at the OS to avoid REUSE and conflicts )
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT='MANUAL';
alter database add standby logfile group 4
    ('/u01/app/oracle/oradata/orcl/standby_redo04.log') size 100m;
    ALTER SYSTEM SET STANDBY_FILE_MANAGEMENT='AUTO'

  • Oracle DataGuard - Standy Redo log on physical Standby db

    Hello Guys,
A quick question on my 10.2.0.2 db with Windows 2003 x64 OSs.
I have 2 machines - One for primary & the other for physical standby
I have successfully setup DG with Real Time Apply and also tested switchover & failover scenarios and they work well and as expected...
But I have a query which popped up when I was trying to set this up at home.
I create the physical standby db by shutting the primary db and copying all the datafiles, tempfiles, online redo logs and then creating a standby control file which will be used for the physical standby db to start off with.
After mounting the standby db, I tried to create standby redo logs files starting with Group 4 but I got error that standby group 4 already exists.
Upon querying v$logfile view, I noticed that the standby redo logs that I created on primary are also showing up on the standby db which I understand is from the standby control file.
So here is my quesiton: What is correct method of creating these standby redo logs on the standby database?
I know that I could drop those 4 standby redo logs from the standby db and recreate them but all the DG docs online and the documents that I have referred say that I should create the standby redo logs on the standby as I did on the primary but how can this duplication be avoided i.e. from the standby control file?
I know that I could use another method to create a hot backup such as RMAN etc...but I wanted to follow this way of shutting down the primary and copy the relevant database files.
Any help appreciated...and thanks in advance guys!
    -Bharath

so with the setup that I used, i.e. create a standby control file which contains info about the standby redo logs at the primary site, should I also copy over the standby redo logs from the primary to standby as I only copied the datafiles, tempfile(s) & online redo logs? But then the filenames of the standby redo logs will be the exact same as that of the primary. Will that cause any issue during a switchover/failover?
I don't remember exactly how I did it when I got the whole thing working but I have a vague remembrance that I drop the std. redo log files entries from the std database and then recreate new ones with different filenames (as compared to primary).
    Thanks

    Many think for any help

    First things first:
    From the Docs.:
"Minimally, the configuration should have one more standby redo log file group than the number of online redo log file groups on the primary database. However, the recommended number of standby redo log file groups is dependent on the number of threads on the primary database. Use the following equation to determine an appropriate number of standby redo log file groups:
(maximum number of logfiles for each thread + 1) * maximum number of threads
Using this equation reduces the likelihood that the primary instance's log writer (LGWR) process will be blocked because a standby redo log file cannot be allocated on the standby database. For example, if the primary database has 2 log files for each thread and 2 threads, then 6 standby redo log file groups are needed on the standby database."
    You are 1 short!

  • How are user groups defined in Mac OS 10.x

Thus far, my guess is that Mac OS determines which users are members of particular pre-defined groups.
For example, if I want to give other users in my home network read and write permissions to a particular folder, I might add the pre-defined group 'netuser' to group in the get info window and give the group right and write permissions.
    I am correct in this?
I used to administer a Windows NT server and workstations and could give permissions to domain users, as opposed to local users on the various machines.
I imagine it might be pretty much the same if I had Macintosh server software installed or whatever.
My chief concern is understanding permissions in relation to Qmaster distributed processing with a home network.
Advice and clarifications are most welcome.

Thanks for the link to the ars tecnica site article on permissions and acl's.
Actually, I am quite happy with Unix group limitations. I am just still trying to understand how to create a group, and users to the group, and to control how new folders and files are given permissions inside their parent folders.
Can you recommend an article that explains how to create new groups, and associate users with groups?
I now have a case where I am trying to figure out how to use QMaster for distributed processing. I was observing problems writing to the second computer, a service node. Even when the first machine, client and cluster controller, was not listed in the upper pane of QAdmin as belonging to the cluster, cluster storage would default to the first machine. So, I made the second machine a cluster controller and service node as well, and sent a job from my first computer, the client, to a cluster that only had the second computer. This worked. Only problem, is that the new folders and file written in the cluster storage assigned to a folder on the second computer have ownership and group changed to the user which is my log in (admin) on the first computer. That in itself wouldn't necessarily be a problem save that I cannot delete the files from the first machine as my account doesn't have necessary permissions. Perhaps that is because earlier, in a botched effort to get Qmaster to work for me, I had created a local account on the second machine with the same name as my admin account on the first machine. That account is now deleted, and I have reset Qmaster preference many times since then, so this is may be a red herring.
The Apple document "Distributed Processing Set-up" says:
"All the computers in a cluster need Read and Write access to any computers (or storage devices) that will be specified as output destinations for files."
I'm just not sure how to go about that.
    Thanks,
    Cris
