Catagorizing Videos (TV Shows, Music Video, Movies)

Can anybody tell me how to manually load videos into the "TV Shows" catagory?
Ex: when I download episodes of Lost off of iTunes, it automatically goes into a "TV Shows" file (and is unchangable), but if I try to manually add other videos I only have the option of putting it in a "music video" or "movie" file...

I don't think there is a way to add tv shows into that category if they are not from itunes. I put "TV" as the Album for all of my tv shows and then made a smart playlist.

Ipod doesnt see music or movies, no apps work!

the ipod portion of my iphone says no music is found, cant get it to respond to the videos or any other button on the ipod player. Also no apps are working, they start to open and then go back to the home screen. Last sunday I upgraded to 2.0.1. could this be the problem? Do i need to go back to the original firmware? Anyone else having this problem. Itunes shows music and movies on my phone when connected.

Considering that you note you've had issues with displaying and playing your media content, other than your App Store apps, have you tried restoring the iPhone and setting it up as new? Prior to that you could also try simply updating the iPhone to version 2.0.2 as well.

You would need to have home sharing enabled on Apple TV and iTunes.

They would be accessed by going to the Computers icon on Apple TV. . Your computer would need to be on and running iTunes.

Yes, you can add your own videos to iTunes, then sync them to your nano, subject to supported max resolution limit and file type. The specs for the 7th gen nano says (I don't know which nano model you have), Video Format Support

(earlier nanos have lower max resolution limits)
So, "HD" video is too high resolution, so iTunes will not sync such videos to the iPod (although they play in iTunes). If you are asking how to set up iTunes to sync videos in general (regardless of source), please post back.

Can I-pod Nanos show music videos?

Hey! Was just wondering whether or not 2nd Gen I-pod Nanos can show music videos, because I bought two that are not showing up on the list- and there is a category on the i-pod that says 'Music Videos'.

The iPod nano does not support video. The processor is not strong enough, along with other things.
Also, do not try iPod Linux, even though you might hear that its awesome.
1. Even iPod Linux does not support iPod nano downloads.
2. Voids any Warranty you have on your iPod.
3. Not unusual for it to leave your iPod as a large domino, and with no warranty, you're out of luck.
4. Is it really worth it to watch video on a 1.5 inch screen?
5. Video takes up a lot of space, and iPod nanos don't have much to spare.

No, the 6th Gen Nano does NOT support video. It does not say that in the description. Find the tech specs here:

Video podcasts can be loaded, but then you will just get a frame from the video as album art and the audio of the podcast.

All of a sudden no videos (movies) just a black screen

I'm not a happy camper right now. One day Tuesday my iPod was working fine and the next all I get is a black screen when I play videos (movie and music videos).
I've been through the cycle of resetting the iPod a few times. I've gone into diagnostic mode and it passes every time!
I have not added anything since July 17th. So I don't know what's up! I did find this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2463229&tstart=0 were people are making the same complaints.
IDK I'm almost afraid to take it to an apple store for what they'll tell me. It's like taking your used car to the deal only for them to tell you that the repairs would cost as much as a new car. Follow me here? I love my iPod though! =( It's just to quirky that this is happening to a lot people at once.
And yes .. it's ALL my video. Some of these things I've had on there for well over a year and they've worked fine all this time.

You can group music, but not movies (videos). There is a way to group movies:
Select the movies in you 'Movies' tab in iTunes, right click, then select get info.
Tick the box next to artist, and fill in the studio of the movie. Then re-sync all content to iPod.
Albums of MP4 need to be converted to AAC, to do this:
Select the songs you wish, right click, and choose 'Covert Selection to iPod'.

the video/movie syncs to my iphone but not to my itouch.

i think i may have at least isolated where the problem is
the movie starts to download and after a few minutes disconnects from the ATV
i have to quit itunes and restart the itunes app and the apple tv shows up again
any solutions would be helpful???

I cannot address the sync services error right now, but the error that you receive when you change from sync to manually manage music is what happens when you change. Once you change to manually manage music, it erases all of the music and will only put the music that you want on the phone, content that you manually drag over to it. I now have 4 itouchs, 1 ipad mini, and three iphones for my own family members. What's the bet way for me to setup itunes so that we can all share the same music, apps, movies, shows, etc?

I'll try to help a bit.
ITunes match space is different to icloud space. With iTunes match you get storage for 25,000 non iTunes purchased tracks and other than a limit for individual file size, there is no memory limit.
You can turn match on individuallyon each device (I have it turned off on my iPod but turned on on my iPad and iPhone). When you turn it on then you get access to all the tracks, and in my experience any playlists I create have transferred over very well. I understand that some people have had trouble with playlists though.
I'm not quite clear with exactly what you mean regarding cleaning up your library, but be careful about using Match for this. There is no guarantee that matched songs will be exactly the same version as your own copy, due to some mismatches, so you could find some problems there. Personall, I am cleaning up my library before matching, but I am rather particular about keeping my library the way I want it. If you aren't as fussed then match could be the answer.

How do i get itunes to download ONLY my purchased music, not movies or tv shows or anything else on my windows machine?

Today, I had to retire my Macbook 17" Pro because it would not do wireless internet anymore. It is now an expensive dust-gatherer in my storage closet. I had all my music and movies and tv shows on there, but I wasn't all that worried, the movies and tv shows I'll probably never watch again, but the music was another matter - music that I purchased via iTunes.
"Not to worry," I thought,"It's all in the cloud."
And so it was. But the problem is that iTunes on my Windows 7 desktop insists on downloading all my 150GB of movies and tv shows that I don't want on there. I want ONLY the music that I purchased. Yes, the Windows 7 desktop is authorized, just to get that little matter out of the way. But I can see nowhere in Edit -> Preferences where I can actually set it NOT to download movies or tv shows, but to allow music to download. Are there any workarounds for this?
I'd love to just be able to go back to my Macbook Pro, but I have to wait until I hear word from Cupertino that they have not only acknowledged the general problem with Macbook Pro's wireless, but actually have a fix for it. Sorry, if I sound abrasive, but when something is supposed to "just work" and it doesn't, it does get a bit disconcerting.

Will videos/movies play continuously on the iPod or only one at a time?

I have 80g iPod Classic and wish it could play videos continuously like it can play songs. Nothing in the pdf manual about it. Nothing in iTunes prefs about it. Nothing in iPod settings about it. I know if I make a playlist of videos in iTunes, iTunes can/will play the entire playlist before it stops. I dragged the playlist to the iPod, but there it plays one video and stops. Question: can it be done or can't it, and if so, HOW?

and tried this, which works: in iTunes create a playlist of videos/movies; select all; choose Get Info from the File menu (yes to the alert); at the bottom of the window (titled "Multiple Item Information") toggle the "Skip When Shuffling" to "No". Then you can drag the playlist to your iPod's newly created playlist box. P.S.: Of 11 videos, 2 were rejected for not being able to be played "on this iPod", even though they already had played on it hours before, even though I had to convert many files so they could be "played on this iPod". "In any complex system blah blah will eventually blah blah.
