Catalog has Disappeared

Hi.
I have just experienced a strange and disturbing problem.
I have Lightroom 2.5.  I have been using LR for about a year, and I have never experienced this problem before.
My Dell computer has LR loaded on my C:\ drive.  Catalogs are also stored on that drive.  Most picture files are stored on an internal terabyte G:\ drive.  Certain folders on the C:\ drive, including those where the catalogs are stored, and all picture files on the G:\ drive are backed up on the external H:\ drive.
I have 6 catalogs, including the original catalog, Lightroom 2 Catalog.  Lightroom 2 Catalog is the catalog I have put most of my pictures in.
Just a short while ago, I noticed that Lightroom 2 Catalog was completely empty.  No pictures show up when I open that catalog.  When I look at the size of this catalog, it is only 740 kB.  I believe it used to be 130,000 kB or so in size.
Unfortunately, the backup on my external H:\ drive is now also only 740 kB because I have my backup set to automatically backup these catalog files, any time there is a change to them.
I can go back to a Lightroom generated backup, but something is quite odd about it.  Somehow, a backup from January 19, 2009 somehow got set up into my Lightroom recently opened files.  When I open this backup, it appears as if most if not all folders I have created up to yesterday are still there.  I am not sure, but I think all Collections I have created up until yesterday are also in the backup from January 19, 2009.
I have no idea what has happened.  Fortunately, it appears as if I can go back to a backup on the C:\ drive; however, that quite old backup, January 19, 2009, appears to be the one with the latest updates in it.  It has updates I did late on Friday and Saturday.  The backups from 11/13 and 11/15 do not have the latest updates in them.
I'm trying to think what I have done that might have triggered this problem.  I did create a new catalog in the last couple of days.  This morning, right before I noticed this problem, I also exported a Collection to a catalog on a portable hard drive so I could transport it to a laptop.  Other than that, I really do not know.
Has anyone seen this problem or have a clue as to what might have happened?  And, any suggestions on what to do to get back to "normal"?  Right now, I can get what I believe to be my most up to date changes by reloading the backup, but I don't want LR to have to go to the backup all the time.  Should I just copy that backup and rename it to a folder where that original Lightroom 2 Catalog was?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I wasn't sure if that's the procedure, or if there is procedure through
Lightroom itself to take a backup and make it one of my catalogs.
Something else is strange.  After I sent in my question, I noticed that if I
got out of LR and then got back into it, it kept on bringing up that
Lightroom Catalog 2 catalog.  I would get an error message stating that
there was a problem with that catalog and that I could not open it.  I could
then select another catalog.
I checked in Preferences, and it was set to open that Lightroom Catalog 2
catalog every time I open LR.  I know I did not have it set that way.  It
had been set to open up the most recently used catalog.
So I changed Preferences back to "most recently used."  Things seemed to
work as they should, every time I exited LR and then loaded it again.
That is, until just now.  I turned off my computer and went out to see a
movie.  When I came back, I turned my PC back on.  I loaded LR, and I once
again got that error message about being unable to open the LR Catalog 2
file.  Once checked Preferences, and once again, it was set to open LR
Catalog 2.  I changed it once more back to open the "most recently used"
catalog.
Something strange is happening.  I'm checking into other stuff.

PSE7, with a PC?  The organizer content has disappeared and the folders have reverted to an earlier version.  It seems to coincide with my use of one of the organizer items, when I closed it after use.

Thanks.  You’re right.  I was in an empty catalog.

I've just turned my mac on this morning and my second internal drive has disappeared! I don't know how else to explain it, it just isn't on my desktop like it usually is, and I can't find it anywhere. Any ideas anyone?

I'm having the same problem. When I run DU, it tells me:

Catalog file entry not found for extent
The volume needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

I then try and repai it and it tells me:

Catalog file entry not found for extent
    Volume check failed.

This happened to me before, but my minds not what it use to be.

  • While importing and burning some CDs, my entire library has disappeared.  Also, there no longer is a "burn file to disc" command in the File menu.  I have downloaded the latest version of itunes which restored only tracks I bought from the iTunes store.

Also, the "burn playlist to disc" command has disappeared from the File options.  I downloaded the latest version of iTunes but that only restored tracks I'd bought from the iTunes store.  I also tried setting up another logon.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • SharePoint Server 2013 Search Box has disappeared

    Hi guys,
SharePoint Server 2013 Search Box has disappeared and not showing on any sites. Even when I try to go to Search centre site I get an error "sorry something went wrong...
Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily close Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator. "
My search SA is working fine and crawl running with no error. It seems like there was same issue on SP foundation 2013 where there is fixed released for that:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2760625?wa=wsignin1.0
But I have SP Server and i can confirm that I have installed SP1 (KB288055) in my farm.
I wonder if I need to install any CU to fix this.... I haven't installed any CUs in my farm yet.
Shall I go for Feb 2015 CU update or Sept 2014 CU? or is there any fixes for that with no CU or I need to install my farm from the scratch....
    Please help.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

You have deactivated SharePoint Search from center Admin.
    Please activate it

  • Memory on phone has disappeared overnight!

  • My Top Sites Button Has Disappeared - How do you get it back?

I have safari for windows xp and have noticed that my top sites button on the top left has disappeared. I want to get it back and have tried -general settings -customize toolbar, and i've tried -edit -preferences -toolbar, but neither have an option of re-adding the top sites button.
Does anyone know what has happened - have apple deleted the top sites function?
If anyone has any ideas it'd be a great help. thanks.

The button is still there with 5.0.2. (At least, still supposed to be there.)
Are your video drivers or display adaptor drivers up to date? (Plausibly, the higher version of Safari may have outstripped the capabilities of your existing drivers. If so, an update of the drivers may be of some assistance.)

    I'm running and iMac 20-inch  early 2009
Processor  2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)

    Step 1
Quit Calendar. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file named "Calendar Cache" selected.
Move the selected file to the Trash. There may be one or two other files in the same folder with names that begin in "Calendar Cache". If so, delete those files too.
    Step 2
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash as well:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How to open Viewer from other apps? - App 'URL Scheme' has disappeared from Viewer Builder!

    Hello
The 'URL Scheme' option in the Viewer Builder did let me to specify a url that made other apps open my viewer. But this option has disappeared from the newer version of Viewer Builder. So. How do I do now to let other apps open my viewer?

Is there a spacial reason that the URL scheme option was taken away from ordinary Multi-issue viewers? It was there in earlier version. I'll explain our situation:
Our client want to publish corporate information; annual reports etc, with DPS. Not really magazines or newspapers you subscribe to.
We are making another app where they publish news articles, videos etc. In that app, we want to have a link which opens the viewer with their publications.
To make this simple thing work, we have to create a 'subscription' to content which is not relly good for subscribing (it is free and announced with push anyway). We also have to tell the client to create Privacy Policys etc for this. A lot of hassle for something we do not really want.
Any chance that this option will come back in v19?

  • My ipad has disappeared but shows "offline" constantly so I cannot locate it.    it

My ipad 2 WiFi (not 3G) has disappeared. It may be lost or stolen-we simply cannot find it. Last seen it was on standby mode. That was 9 days ago. It was 4 digit passcode protected. I have now activated the find my ipad app via icloud but it shows the device is constantly offline. (1) If it is lost then I presume by now the battery will have run down so it will carry on recording offline forever until we find it (unless it accidentally went in the bin with eg the newspapers) ? OR (2) If it is "stolen"/found by someone inclined to keep it would they be able to wipe it and use it for themselves and simply acquire new apps etc for it and have it good as new so to speak...? AND (3) If they do that is there any way I can check if there is "usage" / another user showing against my ipad serial number on Apple's records -not because I expect Apple to blacklist the device as I know they do not do that- but just so I can give up on this insane constant checking on icloud.com whether the find my ipad app has reverted to "online" so I can track its location? If there were usage then I would know once and for all that it has been wiped and is gone for good and I can move on and buy a new one but if there is no usage it would tell me it must be around somewhere and I should keep tearing the house apart to find it.....???

The same way that you would find a lost wallet.

As a suggestion, you might go to an Apple store (genius bar appointment) for help. As far as I know, there should be no charge.

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion bluetooth file has disappeared!

    Hi All,
Since upgrading my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion at the weekend the bluetooth folder in preferences has disappeared. My magic mouse doesn't work properly ie the 'touch' on top of the mouse no longer works for swiping or scrolling down.
I have checked on this forum and many others and the suggestions which seem to have worked for many are reset PRAM and trash the bluetooth plist folder of which I have tried and this still doesnt resolved the issue nor brought back the bluetooth file in preferences.
I am at my whits end with this and thoroughly disappointed that this has happened.
Has anyone got any other ideas of a known fix? Is Apple aware of this problem?
    Cheers

    Hi rkaufmann87,
Thanks for your advice. I ran the verify disk and it told me that my macintosh HD was corrupt and advised me to repair the disk (cmd R upon start up), so I did this and still no Bluetooth file in preferences.
Perhaps now I should reinstall  Mountain Lion?
    Thanks
