Cataloge problems

Catalog can not open quite a lot of files during creation of an index, although the pdf could be open with Acrobate9. How can I modify these pdf that they will be include in the index
Another problem: During indexing a folder with many pdf the program collapses - freezing. What could be the reason for this?

One thing thing which is by design is that Catalog won't open files whose security doesn't allow text extraction/copying.

Lightroom Corrupt Catalog problems- Help!

Lightroom Corrupt Catalog problems reading/writing from disk when attempting to repair - Help! I have my LR box in hand and my product keys and license info but can't find the disk. I'm assuming this is the only way to repair. Suggestions, Comments are welcome and appreciated.

Corrupt catalog will not be fixed by re-installing the Lightroom software (although if I were you, I'd still find that disk!)
If I were you, I would first check a recent backup of your catalog file, and see if that will open (double-click on it in your operating system). If that opens properly, I would just use that file.
If it doesn't open properly, then one trick that sometimes works is to open a blank catalog in Lightroom, then File->Import from Another Catalog and point to the catalog file.

Import from catalog problems

Cannot import from catalog, LR quits and I get about 2 or 3 photos imported.
Adobe was no help, they had no idea why.
Have tried to "import from Cat" twice. Moving two different catalogs into my main desktop catalog. Both did not work.
All three catalogs ( two from laptop and my main LR cat) work fine and I can import photos no problem.
Would like to import all the changes of photos that I have made with these two catalogs that I did on my laptop. (Both cats are on an external hard drive).
Thoughts anyone?
I am having some issues with my video card. Screen right now is a bit pink. This would be the fourth video card I will need on this Mac Pro. Would this be the cause?

It might help. Exporting a catalog sometimes cures corruption in the original catalog. Try exporting into a new catalog and then importing the new one on your desktop.
Never heard of the last thing you mentioned. Can you describe more?
Lightroom has a preferences file, which sometimes gets corrupt and can cause all kinds of weard behaviour. You can delete (or rename away) the preferences file, and LR will build a fresh one when started. If you rename it, you will still have it if you decide you want it back.
To rename the preferences file, rename the file
"[username]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom3.plist"
to something like
"[username]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom3.plist.old"
while LR is closed and restart LR.

Lightroom 4 - Catalog problem?

I recently installed Lightroom 4.0 on my new Windows 7 Home Premiun SP1 (64 bit) computer and imported my Lightroom 3.6 catalog into a Lightroom 4 catalog.
I have two problems which may or may not be related.
First:
While working in the Library, adding key words, etc., Lightroom will suddenly report in the current photo "The file named "xxxx (either .mrw or .jpg)" is offline or missing". On viewing the folder listing in the left-hand pane, all of the folders display with a "?". They did not do so moments before.
Second:
My LR4 import path is C:\Users\Bain\Pictures\My LightRoom.
However, Lightroom is displaying the folders imported since the upgrade as if they are in the root of C:
When I view the folders in Windows Explorer they are displayed properly in the My Lightroom folder.
I'd apprecaite any suggestions or help in resolving these issues.

Let me clarify the issue of the Missing Folder.
1.       The Lightroom 4 folder listing is normal
2.       While working on a photo in a folder I receive the "The file named "xxxx (either .mrw or .jpg)" is offline or missing" message.
3.       All of the folders in the folder listing are displayed with the question mark “?”.
4.       This issue has occurred multiple times.
I worked in Lightroom until I was able to recreate the “offline or missing” message, and all the folders in My Lightroom displayed ‘?’
I followed your instructions, right-clicking on the folder the error occurred in, selecting Find Missing Folder and browsing the folder location, the folder view flickered, but all folders continued to display ‘?’.
While I was typing this, the folder listing in LR ‘refreshed’ and the folders no longer displayed ‘?’
As you can imagine this is extremely frustrating.

Vendor e-catalog problem after upgrade to SRM7

Hi all,
We are upgrading from SRM4 to SRM7 and now testing on some existing external web serivces which punch out to vendor e-catalogues. However, we found that one of the vendor e-catalog has problem and the symptom is like this:
- punch out success, vendor e-catalog welcome our logon
- when navigate on vendor e-catalog, it reports error that we have not logon
After debug with vendor IT, it seems that the SRM7 (working with portal) connect a new session for every screen change on vendor e-catalog. Due to the change of session ID, the vendor e-catalog cannot work properly.
Is there any configuration that can be done on SRM7 or portal to solve this problem? If not, what can be update at vendor e-catalog (sorry that I'm not familar with web)? Thanks in advance.

Hi Donald,
SRM 7.0 will not intiate a new session for page transition, one sesson is initiated for teh frame you are in while inside the external catalog. If new sessions are generated it must be something that the vendor catalog sends some instruction or data back to SRM with each page transition, only on Catalog checkout should the catalog application return data to SRM_SERVER.
Also make sure you are calling the catlaog with POST method not with GET

Course catalog problem - LSO

Hi All,
We are facing strange problem in LSO in displaying the course catalog properly for all users.
We are using mySAPERP 2005 (ECC 6.0) SP11. LSO 600 FE,
We are using structural authorization profiles in the R/3. The catalog was displaying the catalog properly before 2 days back.
Now, for some reasons few of the users having the problems in accessing the course catalog (catalog doesn't show most of course groups, course type, and course).
It skips some of the course groups, course types, and course.
Anybody has an idea what is the problem ? Appreciate your help in this regards.
Note : I correctly maitained the catalog in R/3 by choosing/checking subject area infotype for every topmost course groups.

Thank you very much for your reply. Figured out the problem, as you said the subject area inoftype flag is not being checked.
But, to my strange I am not able to figure it out why it has happened ?
Why the flag is being removed automatically even though I have done these settings and saved it properly in production server 1 month back ?
This happened in quality server too, for initial 15 days, it was shown properly and then....the same problem has started with the course catalog in quality server also ?
Why this kind of inconsistent behaviour ?
Is it the problem with any of TR's movements to Qual, and then to production server ?
Also, we have maintained the structural authorizations correctly in oosb and oosp tcode of backend ECC.
Please share your experiences.

Invalid path in folder - catalog problem

In Lightroom 4.4 I get the indication in the folder pane of invalid paths. I have accidently deleted some directories outside of Lightroom in an effort to reorganize the structure. Lightroom freezes as soon as I move in the folder pane. I have to use ctr-alt-del to exit Lightroom. Deleting the preferences file does not help because when I open the old catalog the same problem occurs.
I tried looking for the back-up catalog file, but that does not exist. The setting was to backup every time leaving Lightroom, but when the problems started, I renewed the preferences to do the backup once a day. Something did not work out, as it is no longer there. May be it replaces a backup file? I should have checked that.
How can I solve the folder problem???
When I create a new catalog, I assume I will have lost all the corrections and work I did on my files.
Operating system windows 7 - 64 bits - 16 GB RAM Lightroom 4.4 No other applications open.

Waiting did not solve the problem, but renaming the topfolder and
restarting Lightroom. Creating a new topfolder and moving an old
subfolder did work!
To be sure I did copy the old folder.
After restarting Lightroom, I had to import the newly copied subfolder.
Everything was allright, except the history was gone, but the metadata,
captions and keywords are still there.
I recreated the first problem folder and could now delete the images
with the wrong path. After that I could remove the folder by
rightclickting.
Now the other problemsubfolders could also be removed.
Problem resolved. I am stil importing subfolders. Thank you very much!

Global catalog problem

hello everyone
in our company we are upgrading our DCs to server 2012R2 we have one Dc 2008R2 we installed another DC 2012R2 and make it GC from sites and services the problem appeared when I demoted the 2008 server I noticed that nobody in the company is able to log to
the domain I realized that even the global catalog check mark is checked the server is not global catalog when I connect through ldap I see isglobalcatalogready : false I tried many solution to make it global catalaog but no success my solution was to shut
down this server and restore the 2008 server from a previous backup now all the users can log to the domain but I only have one DC I tried to add another 2012R2 Dc but DCPromo fails on the prerequisite "check verification of outbound replication
failed error reading the ntds settings on replication source controller" I installed another server 2008R2 server since there is no prerequisite check but the same problem occured the new DC is marked as GC but it's not GC I checked port 3268 I ran dcidag

note that WIN-SM5GUTCII7H is the new DC I renamed it to server 2008R2 but it can't be a global catalog due to the error.

In addition, I just wanted to point out that the error you are receiving below, can be indicative of some sort of firewall block. Antivirus apps can do this, too, with their network protection features.

Do you have an AV on the machine, or the Windows firewall, or a third party firewall enabled?
Run PortQRY to see if there are any ports blocked.
PortQry GUI -
Run the "Domains & Trusts" option between DCs, or between DCs and any machine (other servers you want to promote, or even from a client machine), that you want to test if there are any blocked AD ports. Post only errors with "NOTLISTENING," 0x00000001,
and 0x00000002. You can ignore UDP 389 and UDP 88 messages. If you see TCP 42 errors, that just means WINS is not running on the target server.

Time issue?
A time skew between DCs that is beyond 5 minutes, can cause it, too. Are the clocks on the new server and the current DCs within 5 minutes? Is the PDC emulator configured to sync time to an outside or to a local, reliable source?

SCUP 2011 & Adobe Reader XI & XI Transition Catalog Problems

Hi-
I'm trying to use SCUP 2011 with WSUS 3.0 SP2 (Patched with latest rollup hotfix - WSUS-KB2734608-x64.exe). The problem that I'm running into is that it gives me the following error when trying to publish either Adobe Reader XI or either of the 2 transition packages "Reader 11.0.01 Update" or "Reader Multi Lingual User Interface 11.0.01 Update":

For some reason it keeps making this into a table...
In any event, I don't know why I'm missing dependencies (I've the publicly published Adobe Reader catalog downloaded and published in full content, the Adobe Reader 10 Transition Catalog, the Adobe Reader 11 Transition Catalog and finally, the Adobe Reader 11 Catalog - all downloaded directly from Adobe's Administrator Enterprise Deployment guide.)
Everything else publishes just fine. Would LOVE some direction here. Thanks.

In my opinion there is a difference in the WSUS environment as these detectoids are not present in my Updates Publisher database as well but still it is published successfully.
Can you pls. give me more details as to how WSUS is configured. Will pursue the matter with other folks and let you know

PS Elements catalog problems from Album Starter Edition

I have PS Elements 11 installed on my new notebook. I have copied all my photos from my old PC into the Photos folder on the notbook (running Windows7). I then imported them into PS Elements. I had them all catalogued on the PC under PS Album Starter Edition. I have copied the the catalog .psa file as suggested in the instructions & used the convert command under Elements' Manage Calalogs. Everything seemd to go as expected; all my 'Collections' came in as 'Albums' & all my Tags are there.. But none of the images are being read. All the thumbnails are the generic flower image. It seems tthe catalog is still pointing to the old D: drive on my PC& it wants me to "connect the external drive". What have I done wrong? Have can I fix this? I have nearly 9000 photos & hundreds of tags etc. I will break my heart to lose the cataloging.

The last idea I had was similar to your suggestion - to connect my new
notebook (on which I have PSE11) to the old PC (which has Starter Edition
on it), using Peer to Peer by wireless, so the notebook could see the files
on the PC.
Then Import the images into PSE11 from the "external drive" - this I
managed to do fairly easily.
Then I thought I should be able to access the Catalog file on the PC, in a
similar way from the notebook via the wireless connection.
My thinking was that it then should not be confused about where the images
were actually located; and I would then be able to send a backup
instruction from PSE11 to the files on the PC; and THEN - restore from that
backup, and using the fact that when restoring, PSE11 asks if you want to
relocate the files and catalog to a new location - and I could choose to
relocate them on the notebook.
However, although I managed to import the images into PSE11 easily, I could
not get it to recognize the catalog (.psa) file on the PC via the wireless
connection. I checked & rechecked that I had the relevant folder set
correctly to 'share', but no luck.
I don't know why this was, because it you copy the catalog file to a usb
stick & plug it into the notebook, it can pick it up OK.
So I tried that anyway, and converted the catalog again from the usb stick,
hoping that since the import of the images was via the wireless connect,
PSE11 now 'knew' the images were located on the 'external' PC hard drive;
but still the converted catalog would not function. Same as before - all my
Albums & Tags were listed correctly, but all the image thumbnails changed
from correct images to 'lost' generic Adobe flowers.
At that point, I lost heart & decided I would have to abandon the project &
just start the massive task of re-cataloging. I have a total of 64Gig of
photos, of which about 12Gig were cataloged. Very sad!
Now your suggestion has inspired me to give it one more try. It might make
a difference to have PSE11 on the PC working locally rather than trying to
negotiate the external drive thing. I had forgotten that I can do this with
a trial version.
I will let you know how I go.

Our RMAN Catalog Problem

We have 7 major oracle instances on 2 servers and we have created a RMAN catalog on another server
Our principal databases are Standard Oracle 10g (10.2.0.2.0) under linux , and the catalog is Enterprise Oracle 10g (10.2.0.2.0) in Windows all the databases are registered in catalog when I query RC_DATABSE view it shows all
instances informations , in all RMAN login commands the "CATALOG" clause has been written
Now my problem is that just two of databases backups are recorded in catalog for example when I query "RC_BACKUP_SET" view it only contains backups of two databases while are backups have been performed completely without any error
Do you know what is problem ?

Export catalog problem/question involving previews.

I just returned from a month long trip with a laptop and external drive containing 280gb (~11000 raw files) of photos which are in the same directory layout as my desktop (year/date -- e.g. root/Photos/2012/2012-12-01). For speed reasons the catalog and previews are on the laptop's C: internal drive which is an SSD. Some of these photos have already been edited, and about half of them have * ratings. All of them have at least a few keywords assigned. I want to finish the selection and editing on my much faster desktop with better monitors.
My aim is to get the remote catalog into the desktop's catalog (on its SSD E: drive) and the raw files onto my big drive with all my other photos without losing any of my work. And then wipe the portable drive so it is ready for the next trip. The plan was to
1. Export the catalog and previews only.
2. Import that into the desktop.
3. Drag/drop the the raw files into the main photo drive (and manually reconnect each day if needed).
---The message I got with the export is: "Lightroom was able to export some of the photos to the new catalog, but encountered these problems." "Photo previews could not be found (4446)" ...and then it lists the raw names in expandable groups of 100. These photos do not appear to have anything in common but there are so many of them it is hard to tell.
So I have a couple of questions: What does this error mean? Are the previews in any way necessary to preserve my work? (as I understand it the previews are expendable and would just be rebuilt, and if this is the case, it is not a problem. But that's only what I have read from various online sources). The way I read this message, it is only a minor inconvenience but that is based on the assumption the previews are expendable and the catalog is what is important. What concerns me is the wording:
"Lightroom was able to export some of the photos" --which leads me to think the previews are not expendable.
If this were just a few dozen photos I would experiment, but I dont want to mess up my main catalog with thousands of potential errors! I am running 4.4 on both machines. Thank you in advance for any insight or advice!

To answer your original question: You have probably ticked "Include available previews" when you did the Export as Catalog.
But not all previews were available, hence the error message.
I did not test if this affects the entire export of the catalog entry pertaining to the image in question.
But as you correctly stated: previews can be built by each computer running LR again, independantly. It just takes some time. But then so does the transfer of the quite substantial preview data (depending on size specified).
So I would not bother transferring previews, just leave it unticked. Then no such error messages would occur.
Your description no 1. would now be: export the catalog (i.e. the .lrcat file only, assuming you do 3. separately and have "Export negative file" unticked).
But if your travel-laptop did get a new catalog just for the trip, there would be no need to export anything.
Then you just plug your laptop accessible for your desktop, open your master catalog on the desktop and do an "Import from Another Catalog" from the complete travel-catalog.
Have your external-travel-HD plugged, then move the folders inside LR from travel-HD to your big disk.
Saves you reconnecting each folder.

I am new to the software and cannot get images that are selected for import into catalogs to show in the center panel.

I'm havnig a little difficulty following where your issue is. Is the problem related to two catalogs, or that when you open LR3 RC, you see a double entry in Library mode for the same disk drive with folders in each?
Are the folders Work Photos, Family Photos, etc. from your older LR 2? Did you start by converting that catalog to a LR3 one?
As long as LIGHTROOM is a valid drive on the system, you can move the folders from the lower LIGHTROOM entries to the other one (or vice versa)

i remember having that problem when i first got my n900, it scarred the **bleep** out of me, because somehow i believed that the catalogues wn't wrok in my country, i was a n00b .
anyway don't wory there is nothing wrong with your n900, just give it some time it should work, just keep trying 2 times a day .
or try another internet connection it should than work right away .
