CATALOGS and LOST PICTURES????

Hello, I'm on a pc and I use 1.3
I don't understand the catalogs, and somehow I have managed to get to an old catalog when opening lightroom and when I attempt to go to the lastest catalog it isn't correct - it still brings me to an older catalog, not the one dated from a couple days ago. How do I get back to my most recent catalog? - oh by the way - in "my pictures" some of the photo files seem to be missing also....what the???? Could someone give me a play by play on how to get to what I had on my computer just a few hours ago.
HELP!
Thanks,
Jim

It depends on how you wiped your drive.  Depending on how you did it, only the directory was erased and the data can be found with drive recovery software.  Some are free, although there is a small charge for most of them (~$30).  You can usually download a trial version that shows if it will work and you have to pay to be able to save the found files.  Use Google to search for the software.  Different programs work differently and can find different things.
Good luck.

  • I opened an older catalog and lost the original catalog with over 2 years of photos on it --Help

I opened an older catalog and lost the original catalog with over 2 years of photos on it (I never opened any other catalogs---I never chose to back it up either). it is not saved anywhere I can see as a catalog on my computer. If I didn't save it before opening the older catalog ( I don't specifically remember saving anything) would it be save in another format other than a catalog somewhere?

What happens if you choose File->Open Recent? Is the other catalog listed, and can you choose it? Simply switching to a different catalog should not cause the previous catalog to disappear.

  • Is there a way I can edit pictures in Lightroom 5 on my mac and be able to switch to my pc if I have my catalog and my pictures on an external hard drive?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro and I also have a Wacom Cintiq companion and I would like to be able to edit my pictures on both the computers. I prefer using my mac but sometimes, when I need to be more precise with my editing, I like to use my Wacom Cintiq companion. I followed the steps to install my catalog and pictures on an external hard drive, then added the ''Folder'' of pictures in both computers but the problem I have is that since a PC and a Mac doesn't read the hard drive ''root'' the same way, it creates a second folder on my mac that I can't have access and I am not able to edit pictures on one computer and keep them on the other computer.
    Can someone help me??
Here is an exemple of what I get ...

Contact the Apple account security team for your country and request assistance: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security.  If you can prove your identity to them, they can reset the password and help you regain control of the account.

  • TS3274 I restored my IPad and lost pictures and all info-how do I undo?

I restored my IPad and lost my pictures and all info for email ect..How do I undo and go back ?

A restore erases everything from your device, if you didn't back them up to your computer or backup your iPad then they are gone.

  • IPhoto: Imported and Lost Pictures

I have just imported my pics during a normal sync, I could see them imported on Iphoto but when I wanted to see them on the events tabs they couldn't be accessed. I closed Iphoto hoping to reset the "glitch" and when back in iPhoto the pice were gone, lucliky this time I didn't let the app to erase the pics (last time I did and lost a bunch!).
This is not the first time I import pic and I've done it multiple times, but lately I've been having this problem.
    Any Ideas?

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Renamed and lost pictures without a program can i get them back?

is there a way to get a picture back  lost after I renamed in the folder (not with a program) after they disappeared i looked up what to do and came across Photoshop elements and dl the program, imported the file and tired to reconnect. but it said no flies to reconnect. but they are still missing and coming up in the properties. can any one help. do need a program to rename my pictures without worrying that they will disappear. the one that are gone before I got the program can I get them back.

Well if you only renamed it it will still be there are your computer somewhere. search for the new name to see if you can find it.
Note that if you stick with Photoshop Elements, you should only ever rename files/folders or move things around within the Elements Organizer. If you use Windows Explorer or Mac Finder to move/rename stuff the Organizer will lose track of it.

  • Upgraded to Iphoto 9.5.1 and lost pictures

Hi I upgraded to 9.5.1 tonight and have now lost all pictures back to April 13 (still retaining everything prior). Can anyone please help this is causing me and my family alot of distress as we have holiday pictures missing now?

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • I updated from iPhoto 09 to 11 and lost pictures

I also checked and can't find them in my pictures folder on my computer. Thanks for the help!

    Please explain more.
Are all photos missing or only some?
Are you seeing a completely empty iPhoto Library, or are some events showing?
I also checked and can't find them in my pictures folder on my computer.
Did you keep the iPhoto library in the default location in the Pictures folder?
And how did you upgrade from iPhoto '09 to '11? Did you perhaps uninstall iPhoto '09 before updating? If yes, how?

  • Created " iPhoto Library"  ontop of my "iPhoto Library" and lost pictures

    Hello,
I was trying to create a new iPhoto Library file. I held down the option key and created a new file. But I forgot to give it a different name. Now I can not find my photos from the first "iPhoto Library" anywhere.
I'm surprised at how easy this was to do accidentally. It never asked me "Are you sure you want to replace the exsisting iPhoto Library." as one might expect.
My library is on a second hard drive that I have not touched yet. So I imagine the files are still there, just somehow the directory overwritten. Help!
I do own Data Rescue by Prosoft, but I'm hoping to find an easier/cleaner solution. I can't imagine that I'm the only person to have ever made this mistake. Thanks in advance.

In the circumstances you describe, it's iunlikely to have overwritten the Original library. The new library will have been called iPhoto Library Folder_1.
Try holding down the option (or alt) key bution again, on launching iPhoto, choose LOCATE and navigate to the library location. See if that helps.

  • I have lost pictures in iPhoto, but I can see them in the data folder, except they are only thumbnail size.  They will not open at regular size and are showing unreadable in the "originals" folder.  I've rebuilt and nothing is restoring these pics.

I have lost pictures in my iPhoto.  We moved my iPhoto to a external hard drive and I believe since then, I have random pics missing.  Some pics will show up in the "photos" and some show with a title and a blank picture.  When I click on "package contents" in iPhoto, I have found the "Originals" folder where all the pics are pulling from and the file is there but won't open.  However, in the DataXML folder under package contents, I can open the file but it is much smaller (supposed to be 1 MG, but showing in the data folder as 63kb).  How can I get these pics restored in the Originals folder?  I've rebuilt the library several times and I just ran the iPhoto Library Manager and it won't pull from the data file.  Help!!

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • When I tried to update my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1, I was forced to choose to restore or back up.  Back up wasn't working so I had no choice but to restore.  I lost pictures over the last two years.  Cloud and iTunes backup are not working for me.  Help!

How can I retrieve photos when it says my cloud and iTunes backups are empty or not backed up?
When I tried to update my iPhone 5s to iOS 8.1, I was forced to choose to restore or back up.  Back up wasn't working so I had no choice but to restore.  I lost pictures over the last two years.  When I tried my cloud, there was nothing.  I would get notifications that my cloud was full, but I thought there would at least be some photos in there.  When I tried to restore a back up, it said the last time was two years ago.  I thought when you're on wifi, it automatically backs up.  I've charged my iPhone into my Macbook a bunch of times, so something should have backed up.  Is there any hope for my photos?

Sorry no backup - no pictures.
Yes phone will automatically backup to icloud when on wifi and phone is charge, but your phone storage was full so it stop backing up.

  • How can I move my catalog and pictures to a new computer?

I'm using PSE 6 under XP.  I want to install PSE 8 on a new Win 7 computer.  How can I move all my pictures and my currnet catalog to the new computer?
    Thanks,

Install PSE 8 on the old computer and convert your catalog to PSE 8 format there.  Then use the backup/restore method in PSE 8 to move the catalog and photos to the new computer.  See these FAQs for details:

I was warned and I went straight to the site and they were gone.  I didnt was any time. Either way, there should be a way to either store or restore such items. Have you ever lost pictures that were so important to you that you couldnt sleep or eat for some time. I have and it wasnt fun. I'm glad that you were able to get yours unlike some of us.

I am still wondering why iTunes tries to confuse me every time I try to make changes in my preferences, telling me that I "don't have enough permissions", although I am the administrator.
That's clearly a fault. Whether it's an iTunes problem or a Windows problem I can't say at this time. If you search the Using iTunes for Windows forum for "permissions", you should find threads that can help you sort out this problem.
Then, changes to the format are not obvious, and I get no notice that I am burning music files as data.
If you click on a playlist and look at the lower-right of the iTunes window, it says right there what format it will use to burn the playlist.

  • I erased everything on my iphone and lost all my contacts pictures and everything how do i get all that back from my itunes account??

I erased everything on my iphone and lost all my contacts pictures and everything else how do i get the contacts and pictures back from my itunes account?? ive tried restore its like it gave me a whole new iphone thing.

If you plug in the iPhone to your computer, any contacts ect that you synced with your computer with sync back with the iPhone when it is selected in the iTunes menu under info. Anything that was added without syncing was lost, I'm sorry. A good future solution is to get iOS 5 when it comes out this fall, so you don't need to manually sync contacts, its automatic!
