Catalogs - I almost cried this morning

Hello.
For the new year, I've been reorganizing my entire computer and my workflow. This morning I was standardizing the way I store/backup my catalogs when I came across one that was 844kb and thought to myself, "oh, that's small - must not have anything in it". A few minutes later, I realized that's 844 thousand characters... OH CRAP.
I deleted the Lightroom Catalog that was stored in the default location on my computer. Backups were not set for this one to run, and I now realize this is a mistake. I was able to recover the deleted file with DiskInternal's Uneraser. I have the 844kb file sitting on my desktop right now and am a bit confused. Whenever I open this file, Lightroom opens up with the "Import files" in the middle of the screen. If I move this back to the default location where it originally was (i can't recall right now, I'm at work), lightroom opens up the catalog and has MOST, but not all, of my stuff. I had three folders, 2009, 2010, and 2011. 2009 and 2010 are there up until 11-27. There should be entries from 11-27-2010 all the way up to 01-02-2011. I tried adding that folder to the catalog and importing the photos thinking that lightroom would have the metadata on the pictures available, but it did not.
Is there a way for me to open the lightroom catalog with a sqlite viewer or in something where I can see if the info on the images from 11-27 - 01-02 is available? I haven't tried doing that yet, but I did try opening it in notepad and saw what looked to be something like a binary file.
Any help would be appreciated. I fully understand the importance of backups now. Sad it had to get to this.
Matt

just because a file looks like it is "gone" does not mean the data itself is overwritten --- just marked for garbage collection.
to postpone that garbage from being collected, you should stop using the computer in question.
there is software available to recover “lost” data.  You can load the sw onto a usb stick and start run from there.
what is the config of your system?  Is the catalog on an internal or external disk?

    Not loud but almost whirring.

Processor  3.2 GHz Intel Core i3
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Software  OS X 10.8.5 (12F37)
I just found an answer !
I had moved my computer into another room and had to turn up the brightness, as I have always had it on the lowest setting.  In doing so it created the noise, I turned it right down and it stopped.  I have now set it about level 3 so it's not so distracting.

  • I pre order Iphone 6 this morning. Why was I charged a $30 upgrade fee when I havent been in a contract for almost 2 years? Also will they divide the price of the device over several bills like they have for me in the past?

I pre order Iphone 6 this morning. Why was I charged a $30 upgrade fee when I havent been in a contract for almost 2 years? Also will they divide the price of the device over several bills like they have for me in the past?

Hi there nursegrl02! We can help here with your questions regarding the upgrade fee and device charge. The upgrade fee is a one time fee that is applied when upgrading with a 2-year contract. If you pre-order with a two-year contract, you would need to add a credit card to your order as you will be charged for the device once it ships out. If you happen to purchase the iPhone with Verizon Edge, there is no upgrade fee. You will also be billed for the device in installments. You may have to pay a down payment with Edge.  Go to vzw.com/edge for more information.
Did you upgrade with Verizon Edge or our Device payment plan in the past? If so, that is most likely why you were not charged an upgrade fee.
Let us know if you have further questions.

If the screen is blurry, there might be something wrong with the iPad hardware. That shouldn't happen if the iPad is only one month old. You can try rebooting one more time and see if that corrects it. If it doesn't - and if you have an Apple Store nearby in the Phillipines - you might want to take it to the store and let an Apple Genius look at it.

  • How do I know if I have an extended warranty? I purchased Now 9, 2011 almost 2 years. I dropped it this morning and broke the screen. I want to replace it, do I still get a new one?

Enter your iPad's serial number in the following page: https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
Your warranty and service options will appear. If you purchased AppleCare+ (AppleCare Plus) you may be in luck.
If you do not know its serial number you can find it stored in your last iTunes backup:
Open iTunes on the computer you used to sync the iPad and select Preferences…from the iTunes menu. (In Windows, choose Edit > Preferences.)
Select the Devices pane. Position the cursor over any of its backups. The iPad's serial number will appear in a popup window.
For a screenshot read: iOS: How to find the serial number, IMEI, MEID, CDN, and ICCID number

  • Found almost all of my music--all of the CD music--grayed out this morning. Why is that, and how do I stop this from happening? Second day in a row!

Yesterday, I wrestled with the iPhone for three hours, trying get my CD library to RE-APPEAR on my iPhone. I finally thought I had--I removed a "bad" artist, and everything was fine.
Until this morning, when I tried to go for a run and, again, found MY ENTIRE CD LIBRARY--EVERYTHING EXCEPT WHAT I'D BOUGHT THROUGH ITUNES--grayed out again.
Why is this happening, and what do I do about it?
    Thanks.

    Open itunes.
Connect ipad. Select what you wan tto sync. Sync. Disconnect ipad.
Cnnect ipod.  Select what you want.  Sync.

  • Did some updates yesterday so decided to shut the computer down last night. Turned it on this morning and now for almost an hour the screen is showing a grey background with a picture of the computer and it says "setting up your Mac".   Like it is frozen.

Did some updates yesterday so decided to shut down my computer last night. This morning when I turned if back on it came up with a grey screen and a white box with a picture of the computer that says "setting up your Mac". It's been like this for an hour. The display box shows three check marks but it won't do anything. It's like its in a frozen mode

  • Upgraded my iPad with the iOS 8.3 software.  This morning, the iPad has low battery, even though it was plugged into the power source.  It's now plugged in, but I don't think it's charging. I have a black screen and nothing else! Any thoughts? Thanks

My iPad was upgraded to iOS 8.3 software while plugged in.  This morning, the battery is almost dead, and I have a black screen.  Not sure the iPad is even charging! Any thoughts on what to do? Thanks.

The update is iOS 8.1.3 not iOS 8.3.
Have you tried resetting your iPad?
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • Blue/Black screen when I woke up this morning.

    Hi all
I woke up this morning to my phone displaying blue/black lines on my screen with no picture :/!
It has rather confused and I'm unsure what to do. I have had the phone for over a year and any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gregor

Have you tried creating a backup then restoring the phone as new? If it's still happening on a wiped phone, it's almost definitely a hardware issue that needs to be repaired

  • Import from catalog: what happens to this catalog ?

    Hello everyone!
I follow Scott Kelbys LR3 book for transferring my work from my studio laptop to my main processing computer in my office using the EXPORT TO CATALOG technique.
So then I transfer the folder to where I keep my LR pictures in MY  COMPUTER. Then I IMPORT AS Catalog into LR.
QUESTION: What happens to the LRcat and LRdata file I imported afterwards? Are they copied or otherwise incorporated into my MAIN LRcat or is it safe to DELETE the imported LRCAT  & LRDATA files because they are now part of the MAIN catalog?
I hope this is clear...   Thanks!

I'm almost certain you can delete the catalog you imported from. But to be sure, you could create an exported catalog with one image in it, import it into your main catalog, then delete the one you imported from and see what happens.

  • WHAT is going on AIM?  I keep getting the Auth:ResVLink Error this morning!

I was chatting with my Dad perfectly fine this morning. We wanted to add my sister but I couldn't see that she was available. So I ended our chat and then couldn't get back on because of the AOL error. I can't even log into AIM separately.
Anyone know what is going on?
    Sunil

    OK,
There are several parts or stages in making a Video (or Audio) chat connection.
The visible part is sent out and received on port 5678 on the UDP Protocol.
iChat then moves in iChat 3 to port 5060 and contacts the SNATMAP server (run by Apple for iChat) to send the SIP part of the invite and "negotiate" which ports to use.
The Buddy's iChat does the same thing on clicking Accept.
The Server puts the two together on agreed ports and the chats starts the server drops out and you are Peer-to-Peer. (On Ports 16384-16387 normally but 4 from 165384-16403)
In iChat 4 the invite and stuff to the SNATMAP server is on port 16402 as first choice. This is also the single port for Video in and Out and Audio in and Out
(if the port is unavailable, iChat drops one port at a time for 10 ports)
Now some routers and modems have protection features.
DoS (Denial of Service) blocks incoming data in considers is too much too quickly.
SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection makes a judgement if the Data stream is OK.
Both protect you from losing the whole internet connection by stooping that data stream.
In most case these are preset thresholds.
As Internet connections get faster and faster people are bumping into them more often.
A fast Buddy could be seen as sending too much too Quickly
With Leopard/iChat 4 sending all the data on one port there is also a risk that what worked before is now subject to getting cut.
Declining Invitations can be iChat's way of interpreting that the other end suddenly got cut off.
Error 7 almost certainly pints to this problem.
Error 20 (no Data for 10 secs) can also be the same issue if you did not get to see or hear your Buddy.
It is worthwhile checking the modems and routers at both ends as the info above is somewhat generalised.
    I hope this helps.

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 08 this morning now iWeb is completely messed up

My templates are gone - all of the pictures!!!!! I open a page it has no templates at all and I get an error saying that the page is missing files that are the background and headers. All of my pictures are now envelopes as place holders. What do I do!

    Installed Upgrade to iLife '08.
Opened iWeb and ok'd upgrade. Did updates to my site. Published it and verified this morning it posted correctly - it did.
Opened iPhoto and ok'd the upgrade. Closed it out because I couldn't figure out how to edit a photo.
Opened iWeb. Elegant template is greyed out in the themes area and every page is grey lines with only text. The pages all have errors telling me that parts of the template are missing - header.png, etc. Not one picture is on the site. Every one is a placeholder.
It's almost like the upgrade broke the link to the pictures. Not sure about the template issue though.

  • My G5 Tower caught fire this morning

My apartment smells like burnt electronics today. I was asleep this morning when I was awoken at 6am by a weird sound coming from the dining room. At first I thought it was the Oscar attacking something in the fish tank, I went in to investigate and realized, it was not the fish, I heard a electrical arching coming from the computer. When I got close to the computer I could see flames coming out of the vents for the cooling fans. The fire was expanding fast, I acted immediately pulling all the inputs and the power plug and started blowing into the back to put out the fire. I got the fire out but if I was not there I'd hate to think what might have happened to my apartment and my neighbors as I live in a four plex.
I have a liquid cooled 2.5 duel G5 tower or should say "had as of now", and I'm pretty sure the liquid leaked into the power supply, shorting it out.
This really ****** me off and I think Apple should make good on their bad design and almost burning down the building I live in by replacing this unit altogether.
No, I'm not under warranty or extended apple care but I don't care.
Anyone know if Apple stands behind their product in a case like this?
    Anyone have a similar experience?

Yes, they said they would fix the computer but I'm not very enthusiastic about having a computer in my home that spontaneously bursts into flames, even when powered down. Melrose Mac called me today to authorize the repairs and they confirmed my fears that the coolant leaked into the power supply and logic board, virtually the entire component array needs to be replaced.
My concerns are how many of these fire bombs are sitting in unsuspecting homes waiting to combust. And what kind of issues might I have after inhaling the noxious fumes that were in my dining room all day.
I think this issue goes beyond the mere fixing of a stupid computer but goes into possible property loss and lives at stake. It seems to me Apple should have recalled these machines and should recall all of these machines. It looks like Apple is taking this issue on a case by case basis, fielding the line drives as they come. Does someone have to die before the responsible thing is done? Or has someone maybe died and it was never connected to this source. Orrr??????
I've always thought of Steve Jobs and Apple Computers as a responsible company doing the right thing for the advancement of humanity. Now, it looks like, to me,
they have become a company using the legal system as cover and lawyers as their ultimate moral compasses.
Maybe I'm a dreamer but where does this kind of **** end?

  • HT4061 Hi, I dropped my phone down the toilet this morning. I took out my SIM so it would do. I put my phone into a bag of rice for about three hours. I tried rebooting it. My phone still isn't turning on-what shall I do?

    This is URGENT-please reply.
I dropped my phone down the toilet this morning. I took the SIM out straight away so it would not get damaged. I put my phone in a bag of rice for almost four hours. I tried to reboot my phone back to it's factory settings like it said on the internet but my phone doesn't connect to Itunes at all. My phone won't turn on. What shall I do?

It would need to be rice for around 7 days ,however trying to turn on has probably fried it so try around 7 days and then when it still doesn't work either exchange for a refurbished iPhone 4 or use the money to get a new one.An iPhone 4 is $149 in US
ps the sim is not likely to be damaged water conducts electricity across all the wrong circuits frying the iPhone

Sounds like the Hard drive is toast. Might be repairable with Diskwarrior. I would bootup in target mode and see if another Mac can recognize it. Then backup everything.
