can someone, please, tell me the software difference between Catalist WS-C2950G-24-EI and WS-C2950C-24. The product adviser is not very clear about it.

Standard Catalyst switch vs. Enhanced routing version

I have question regarding the Cisco catalyst switches with the enhanced routing option.
As I understand it to do layer 3 routing between vlans on a standard catalyst switch IOS requires me to configure a port on the switch with 802.1Q, plug that port into a seprate router and configure the router's port (also configured with 802.1Q) as a 'router on a stick' for each vlan i need to route. Then any additional switches I want to add to the network I would simply trunk them back to the switch that has the router plugged in so i could have inter-vlan routing. Does this sound correct?
Now if I used a switch with the enhanced layer-3 IOS (A WS-C3560G-24TS-E for example) would i be able to remove the extra router from the design? would the packet routing go at the speed of the back-pane of the enhanced switch, rather than the wire-speed of the connection to a external router? I would also be able to get a gigabit SFP for each of my additional switches (3500XL's) and plug them into a trunked port on the 3560 thus giving a full gigabit trunk to each access layer switch.
Or would a router on a stick be a fine solution for inter-vlan routing? There will be a need for a integrated services router in the future to act as our CME for this site, so we will be purchasing a router anyways.

If you have layer 3 switch with standard image then also you will be able to configure intervlan routing on layer 3 switch.
Enhance image on layer 3 switch will let you configure routing protocols like ospf, bgp and enhance qos features whih is not possible with standard images.
But just for intervlan routing any layer 3 switch like 3550,3560 will let you achieve inter vlan routing without using external router.

Cat4000 IOS - standard v. enhanced

Everything I've read tells me that I need to load the Enhanced image IOS to run EIGRP on a 4500. Yet on a 4507 I have which is very definitely running Standard (or is it Basic?), where "sh ver" says "IOS (tm) Catalyst 4000 L3 Switch Software (cat4000-I9S-M)", I can run EIGRP and establish adjacencies. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Thanks to those who replied. However, I do actually know how to read and how to use the Software Advisor, and I know what it tells me. The "problem" I have is that EIGRP does actually work using standard image on a 4507 with Sup IV. All tools I know about indicate that it is participating correctly in the EIGRP network. Why is this? Normally, when something is not supported in a particular IOS image, you can't even enter the commands, let alone have it work. This particular image is not a "k", for instance, so giving SSH commands, for example, throws you an "% Invalid input".

IP Accounting on catalyst 2950

Hi all,
Is there a way to find out traffic information from source IP to destination IP, like ip accounting used on routers, on the catalyst 2950 switch. My switch has the standard image.
Also what performance impact would it have on the switch, if possible to implement.

Hi dukenukem,
no there is no way of interpreting flow information that way on a c2950. A c2950 is a L2 Device. Normally it doesn't really care about ip adresses.

I'll try to clarify my problem. I have a 2950 (Standard Image) with a giga uplink to a 6500. On the 2950 I have a VLAN composed of 4 ports. I' like to limit the use of the uplink link of this VLAN or at least of one port to 20%. Would it be possible on 2950 SI or I'll have to upgrade to EI whitch implyes hardware changes ? Or it just impossible on 2950 and I'll have to migrate to 3750 ?

Difference between LAN BAse Image and Enhanced Image

Can you tell me the difference between switches with LAN Base Image and Switches with Enhabced Image. I want to run HSRP and OSPF on two switches. Can I use LAN Base Image with this or is switches with Enhanced Image.

The 2960 series does not have an Enhanced Image, just the standard software with and w/o crypto. The 2950 differences can viewed at the following link.

Catalyst 2950 - Problem updating IOS

I am trying to upgrade from version 12.1 (14) EA1a to version 12.1 (22) EA5 on a Catalyst 2950. When I look at the flash directory, I see the following:

When I try to delete the old file (c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-14.EA1a.bin), I receive a message that the No such file or directory exists. There is no typo when I entered the filename. Also, there seems to be a discrepancy in what free bytes are being shown as available. The system shows 2480640 free bytes, but by my calculations, there should be 4778425 bytes available. Are they files that are hidden and why can I not delete the other file? Thanks.

Are you able to dlete any other file except this from the flash. This could be a problem in accessing the flash properly. I would suggest try formatting the flash:, this will make the flash sectors empty and will be as a new scratched one. This should help in uploading the new IOS.
***** Please make sure that the switch doesnot reboot at while while you format the switch and upgrade the IOS as the switch will fall in rommon with any image.

Catalyst 2950 - Radius

Is it possible of crypter the password radius-server on a catalyst 2950. (example: "radius-server key 7 toto")?

Actually the answer to this question is very highly release dependent. Earlier releases did not support it. Current releases do. I am not sure where the change is and believe it may be a 12.3 (or maybe even a 12.3T) enhancement. I have quite a few routers (most with TACACS and some with Radius) where the key is encrypted. When I started with those routers the key was not encrypted. At some point in doing a software version upgrade the keys for TACACS/Radius started being encrypted.
The encryption of the TACACS/Radius key is part of the service password encryption. The service has been enhanced several times to increase the number of keys that it protects. If you have service password encryption enabled (and in a live network I hope that you do) and have a release that supports the new enhancement your TACACS/Radius key will be encrypted automatically. If your version of IOS does not support it yet the key will not be encrypted.

Bridge CS4 not using newly installed Enhanced Image Processing Photoshop script

Hi all,
Hope someone can help here. We just added this Photoshop extention: Enhanced Image Processor by Manovi to our Photoshop CS4's Presets/Scripts folder. Here's my problem. The new image processor opens and runs great - in Photoshop. But when I'm in Bridge CS4 and choose Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor it opens/uses the old script. Does Bridge cache this kind of thing or what's going on.
How can I get Bridge to use the new image processor? (note: Old script was replaced by new one in Photoshop's preset/scripts folder - the old one is no longer there - although we did save a copy of it elsewhere)

I don't have CS4… but in CS5 the paths to the files in Photoshop's scripts folder are coded into the functions that call them… Bridge reads these files on request evaluates them then runs… I would suspect the file name may differ from what it's looking for… Have you tried calling it the same and placing it in the same location? If this fails you may need someone to edit the Bridge startup script (not a job for the faint hearted)… Sorry but that ain't going to be me it uses localized strings don't understand them yet… Paul R may well say he can do it I don't know… So NOT cached… but possibly NOT read either in you case…

Help needed to enhance Image Processor Pro Script to save transparency in TIF

Hi everyone,
this is my first post in this community.
We have a droplet which reduces the resolution of tif images to 72dpi and save the tif image with transparency. This works fine, but it took to long for the whole process of many picture in different folders. That's the reason why we searched for another script which can preserve the folder structure and set the resolution of every tif image to 72dpi.
We found Image Processor Pro, which does exactly what we needed. The script works perfectly in CS5 and CS5.5 as it saves the tif with the transparency. Those saved tif images could be used in InDesign with the transparency.
BUT Image Processor Pro script works not so perfectly in CS6 as it seems that this option to save a tif with transparency is not implemented or does not work in the script. The result is that those converted tif images are w/o transparency in InDesign. That's a huge problem for us.
This is the point where I need your help. Neither I have experience yet with jsx-files nor with the right syntax of it.
Is there a way for anybody of you to implement / enhance Image Processor Pro so it will save tif with transparency?
We used the latest German Version of Image Processor Pro: 2.3.1 (link: http://www.russellbrown.com/scripts.html)
(The German version contains only german on screen texts!)

Possible causes:
1) It probably has nothing to do with your image files, but you won't know until someone else tests one of them. You could create a small 50% gray TIFF file with transparency and post it, assuming you know it exhibits the issue with IPP.

There are two installers for Image Processor (CS5 and CS6). Did you download and install the CS6 Version Installer?
3) Another possible solution other than modifying the script is to reset the PS Preferences file. When strange things happen in PS with no explanation this usually fixes them. My PS CS6 was inflating all new files by 1.4MB. After examining one of the files it turned out PS was inserting a Costco printer profile into every new file. So don't automatically assume your PS image files are not somehow being corrupted and causing loss of transparency in IPP. Creating a new Preferences file resolved my issue:

This issue comes in to picture when endpoint attempts a couple of failed authentications and if Suppress Anomalous Clients option with Reject Requests After Detection is enabled then ISE Policy nodes protect themselves from overwhelming numbers of authentication requests by sending an immediate reject for suppressed clients as opposed to processing all the steps in a normal authentication. So if that user did some authentication failure, he will be locked for 1 hours (bydefault).

Standard report appended image

Hi,
I'm using XPsp2, LV 2011sp1, standard report, append image VI.
The appended image appears at a low resolution (screen resolution?) when printed. Text is perfect.
If i resize the image to a larger resolution (dpi) it resizes it to fit within the margins but retains the low resolution. The auto-re-sizing results in a distorted image if it is resizes to fit the width, but does not need to resize to fit the height.
Can i increase the resolution of the printed images in the report? -to 150 or 300 dpi so they do not looks so pixelated when printed?

Thanks for the information; it was really helpful in understanding your problem further. I've managed to print out the exact same type of response as you've been getting; the larger DPI image just comes out a lot bigger for Standard reports than the smaller DPI image. I also dragged the files into MS Word and saw that the images were resized appropriately. Interestingly enough, I set the type of the report to 'Word' and when printed, the images came out at the appropriate resolution. This means that inside of the MS Office programs, there is some internal compensation for recognition of image DPI scaling that isn't native in the Standard report in LabVIEW.
I also selected to print a 'HTML' implementation of the report. The images were again mismatched in this state.
Q: How do we work around this issue?
A: There are two options I see at this point. We can either try reconfiguring the DPI of the printer that we're printing to, or we can take a copy of the resized image in Word by taking a snap of the screen and then cutting the resized image out. I just tried this out and the resized image that I cut out from a printscreen of MS Word looks just as expected on the report.
I took a look inside the Report Generation VIs that were used for printing and I couldn't find any aspects that we could modify to alter the interpreted DPI of the images. This is because the lower level print functionality is hidden within the higher level LabVIEW Property Nodes and is therefore inaccessable from any Block Diagram code. In this regard, I don't believe that there are any direct features native in LabVIEW that as LabVIEW Users, we will be able to modify. I made a VI to resize the image in LabVIEW and then print the output, however the issue with this is all of the quality in the original image was inevitably lost.
You can head over to the LabVIEW Idea Exchange and post this feature request on the forums and get other LabVIEW Users to Kudos it; the higher the Kudos, the more change of the feature being incorporated into a newer release of the toolkit. I definitely agree that this would be a great feature and I'd be more than happy to contribute.

So in summary: No, you cannot adjust the resolution (DPI) at which the Standard Report Generation toolkit processes appended images.... Unless anyone knows better? ...i can not get satisfactory results from either of the suggested work arounds.

The 2950 is a layer2 switch. Anything carried over ethernet will go, no matter which layer3 protocol is used.

Catalyst 2950 Switch flash_init error

Hi Everyone,
I'm new to Cisco products and have a small home lab set up. I have a Catalyst 2950 switch that I would like to restore to factory defaults. Here is the issue I'm having and can't figure out.
I pull the power, telnet into the console port, hold the mode button and restore power. The boot loader (Version 12.1(11r) starts and says the usual message the system was interrupted prior to flash initialization (Paraphrasing here)
I get to the switch: command line, enter flash_init. Flash states it initialized and then all I get is a < with an underscore under it prompt. Anything I try to type comes up as bizarre characters and I can not get back to a switch: prompt unless I reboot the switch manually. Unsure of what to do here.
