Catalyst 2955T-12 Power Supply n IGMP Snooping

Hello everyone,
I have Two Catalyst 2955T-12 switches, on this switch there are Two Power Supply (DC) options...I want to implement redundant Power Supply solution, can this Two DC Input on Switch will give this solution or I have also external Din Rail power supply...my question is how I can implement redundant power supply so that if one PS of switch fails then automatically other will start?
Also can any body tell me what IGMP snooping do? do I need to configure it? also the command (I need global command as well as port/interface based command)?

As the name implies, IGMP snooping requires the LAN switch to snoop on the IGMP transmissions between the host and the router and to keep track of multicast groups and member ports. When the switch receives an IGMP report from a host for a particular multicast group, the switch adds the host port number to the forwarding table entry; when it receives an IGMP Leave Group message from a host, it removes the host port from the table entry. There is nothing else to configure.

We have a number of switches from different vendors and have recently begun switching to Cisco's, however unlike the other brands I am unable to audit the IGMP Snooping settings via SNMP. It appears that while the switch supports IGMP Snooping it does not support the CISCO MIB for IGMP Snooping. Is this a known bug and is it fixed in any of the later releases?

The above log message is written because the number of explicit-tracking statistics entries is bounded to avoid monopolizing of system resources by IGMP/MLD snooping. The explicit-tracking statistics database maximum size is set to the same as that of explicit-tracking limit.
The statistics are split into two banks: permanent and volatile. The statistics entries will be stored permanently (volatile) until the permanent entries threshold is reached, after which the statistics will be stored temporarily up to the database maximum size. When the size of the database exceeds the permanent threshold, a group will be removed on receiving an IGMP/MLD leave. Groups can be removed whether they were installed above or below the permanent threshold. If the number of statistics entries grows beyond the maximum size of the database, then no statistics will be stored for any newly formed groups.
You can disable ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking by the following
1) Configure "no ip igmp snooping explicit-tracking"
2) Configure "ip igmp snooping limit track 0" on global.
3) After ET is disabled, please do a "clear ip igmp snooping statistics".

Our switch model is "Cisco Catalyst Blade Switch 3020 for HP"
We are building HA (High Availability) Databases infrastructure.
Currently, there are two nodes(hosts- servers) and two above switch for HA.
Oracle said we need to turn off the IGMP Snooping in order to use the multicasting for their interconnect communication.
So my question is:
Q1> Is there any way to use Multicasting without turning off IGMP Snooping on Switch side?
Q2> If 'yes', how can we configure the switch for Multicasting ?
Oracle uses 230.0.1.0 & 224.0.0.251 IPs with 42000 range port for Multicasting communication.
Please shed some light on it

Catalyst 3850 - Show Power Inline command doesn't show the 1100WAC Power Supply

I have a stack of 4 WS-C3850-24P switches with data and powerstack cables connected. One of the switches has an additional 1100WAC Power Supply in slot B.
When I do a "show env power all" I can see the 5 power supplies:

That appears to be the only way. If you have an SVI for the vlan you want to run Multicast in, then simply enable PIM and not worry about IGMP snooping. I think, the reason you don't see this command under the layer-2 vlan is because most of the time the 6500 is used as layer-2/layer-3 and not just layer-2.
How could "no ip igmp snooping" applied globally impact my 6509 switch?
It will impact only the vlans that are running Multicast. In general, ip IGMP snooping is used when you have a flat vlan and no SVI. If you have multiple vlans and are running Multicast between them, then you can just enable PIM.

Use SNMP to monitor the power supply status of stacked switches

Does anybody know how to use SNMP to monitor the status of the internal power supplies of a group of stacked Cisco 3750 switches?
The switch stack has three 3750-48PS-E switches inter-connected by Cisco StackWise cable. IOS ver 12.1(19)EAlc. A single IP address is used to identify the switch stack. Every time I poll the OID chassisPs1Status (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.2.4.0 in CISCO-STACK-MIB), I only got the status for the Master switch of the switch stack. Is there any way to poll the power supply status of other switches in the switch stack?

Cisco 3850 Dual Power Supply - One No Response

Hey Guys,
I am getting multiple switches on my network showing "power supply failure" from Solarwinds.
I am running Cisco 3850s running v 03.02.03.SE cat3k_caa-universalk9 iOS, and they all have dual power supplies. When i do the sh env power, I get this output.

Catalyst 2960G redundant power options

I am trying to come up with the best redundant power option for the Catalyst 2960G switch series. Taking the WS-C2960G-48TC-L for example, there is a RPS option (the RPS 2300) and a single internal power supply. The suggested configuration from Cisco is to use the internal power supply along with the RPS module as a backup. However, in this configuration, if the switch fails over to the RPS for any reason, the switch will need to reboot in order to switch back to its internal power supply.
In older switch series, such as the Catalyst 2924XL, we got around this limitation by powering the switches exclusively from the RPS unit, which had dual power supplies and could power all of its connected switches at once. This provided AC power supply and power feed redundancy, and no reboots were needed if a feed failed.
Is this approach still suggested with the RPS 2300? These units can only power two devices concurrently, so we'd need one RPS per two switches. That's acceptable to us, but will we be getting SNMP traps and other errors if we run the switches with their internal power supply disconnected and use the RPS for primary power?

at this point it sounds like your redundant power is not operational and no longer redundant.
you should verify the RPS is connected completely, securely and correctly to the 3458 as well as the power outlet.
if all is correct, double check the RPS to verify it is running and the fan is running. if either of these two are not operational, you should probably consider replacing it asap by contacting TAC from http://www.cisco.com/tac or 800.553.2447 (if the product is under warranty)
or if it is not under warranty, then your cisco reseller should be able to help you as well.

Hi all,
my customer has a lot of WS-C2960XR-24PS-I (15.0(2)EX4) 24 and 48 Port switches, some are in a stacks, others not. All have 2 Powersupplies.(each 640 Watt)
Now he notice this message every 5 minutes, but not on all switches.
Looking at the switch, the PS seems to be ok.
There is a known issue, but this one only mention the problem during insertion, not during normal runningtime.
What can be the problem here?

The power supply is hot-swappable. In some configurations, such as full PoE+ or power sharing mode, removing a power supply causes powered devices to shut down until the power budget matches the input power of a single power supply. To minimize network interruption, hot swap the power supply under these circumstances:
–The switch is connected to an XPS 2200 and sufficient power is available.
–The switch is in StackPower mode and sufficient power is available (Catalyst 3750-X only).
–The switch is powered by other switches in a power stack, and no active backup is in progress.

Power supply died

I wasn't doing much on my computer, when all of a sudden I heard a pop and the computer shut off, followed by an electric burning smell coming from the power supply. There was no catalyst; it sits behind a battery, and my other computer running on a parallel UPS didn't feel any surge. Its serial number is just before the recall numbers. Does anyone know if Apple will sell me a new supply? Its far out of warranty and I've always done DIY repairs on my system, and ifxit doesn't carry desktop parts.

A G5 power supply isn't easy to do, but many folks have managed to successfully do the deed.

Cisco 6500 power supply and module (hot-swappable?)

Hi everyone!
We have currently a Cisco 6500 with 2 power supply of 3000w. We want to replace these PS for 2 new ones, which have higher wattage: 6000w.
Can we replace them without needing to turn the 6500 off?. I mean, What happens if we insert a 6000w PS and the switch is working with one 3000w PS?
Is it possible to do this replacement "on hot"?
And second, we also have a ws-x6708-10g-3c module. Can we insert this module "on hot"? Without needing to turn the Catalyst 6500 off?

I had an Intel-iMac fried by lightening. UPS, surge protectors but it happened as I was reaching to unplug. Cold now. Could it just be the power supply? Can I replace that myself?

I have some complex questions regarding an iMac, a Time-Machine backup, and iTunes on an iPod.
I live about halfway up an extinct volcano about 12 miles north of San Jose Costa Rica. Some months ago, we had a thunderstorm and as I reached to unplug my computers lightening struck about 50 meters from my house. I had an iMac with a 3-Tb external backup drive, a PC laptop and a laser printer on the same power strip. There was a definite surge and the light brighten and then power was lost for a few minutes.
When power was restored, the PC and the laser printer seemed to work fine but the iMac was cold.
First questions: Is is possible that the power supply was fried and not other essential parts? Would it be worthwhile to replace the power supply? Can I, with limited experience and tools do it or need I take it to a technician? My concern is that if the hard-drive is good, there is personal information on it that I don't want to risk.
Next question: Do I need to replace the hard-drive before taking it for service? How hard is that, can I do it? I have seen videos of the drive replacement on-line.
Those are my iMac questions, now the questions about backup restoration.
If there is a saving grace with this it is that the Time-Machine backup seems fine although I have only accessed the data through Finder. I replaced the iMac with a Macbook Air with significantly less mass storage and I can't just move files to the Macbook. My problem is that I have an iTunes library of some 10,000 songs on the backup and until recently on a 160 Gb iPod which was old and it crashed. I have replaced the iPod but have not tried to restore the iTunes library to it because of my confusion about how to do that. Can anyone tell me how I might do that or give me any insight into the process?

Is is possible that the power supply was fried and not other essential parts? Would it be worthwhile to replace the power supply? Can I, with limited experience and tools do it or need I take it to a technician? My concern is that if the hard-drive is good, there is personal information on it that I don't want to risk
Quite possible, but working on iMacs is not easy, & PSU might be prohibitive.
Hopefully the Drive might have info on it, but even pulling that out can be a chore.
If you don't know the model, find the Serial# & use it on one of these sites, but don't post the Serial# here...

I'd get an external drive & restore the whole works to it, then boot from the External drive.
