Catalyst 3560c Series PoE

I have a static connection from ISP and they had provided the client a cisco 3560 switch. Now the client requires a direct connection to one PC and one connection to wifi access point from other port in the switch ( 2 connection from switch ports). How can be this done?. Can any one provide detail configuration . I dont have any other devices , a simple office setup. later they may require connection to remote branches.
Static IP Details from ISP
5.34.103.96
gateway 5.34.103.95
subnet mask 255.255.255.252
pr dns 94.200.205.205
sec dns 91.74.76.76

I assume that you have either have WS-CE500-24LC (4 ports of PoE) or WS-CE500-24PC (24 ports of PoE)
The PoE ports are 802.3af compliant ports, so unless
the LaserLink looks for something special, the PoE portion will not power it up, the connecting device must be 802.3af compliant.

  • How to remove the WiSM2 from the Catalyst 6500 series switch?

Hello, can you explain to me how to safely remove the WiSM2 from the Catalyst 6500 series switch?
According to the documentation "Catalyst 6500 Series Wireless Services Module 2 Installation and Verification Note":
To remove the WiSM2, perform these steps:
Step1     Shut down the module by one of these methods:
In privileged mode from the router prompt, enter the hw-mod module mod shutdown command. NoteIf you enter this command to shut down the module, you must enter the following commands in global configuration mode to restart (power down, and then power up) the module:
Router# no power enable module modRouter# power enable module mod
If the module does not respond to any commands, press the SHUTDOWN button located on the front panel of the module.
Step2     Verify that the WiSM2 shuts down. Do not remove the module from the switch until the POWER LEDis off.
But, in the case of Step1 (1st methods) I do not see a option "shutdown"  in the command "hw-mod module 3"...
All I prompted to enter is:
    c6500#hw-module module 3 ?
boot           Specify boot options for the module through Power Management Bus control register
    reset          Reset specified component
simulate  Simulate options for the module
Is it hidden options? IOS version of c6500 is 12.2(33)SXJ1
In the case of Step2 (2nd methods) there is not any button on the front panel of the module?
And yet, it is better to remove the module configuration manually or use the command module clear-config prior to removing the module?

    Good catch.
Which one is true, will get back to you on this if i've something soon.

The above link is procedure to remove wism2. This procedure doesn’t look like wism2 is hot swapable.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/module/wism2/installation/note/WiSM_2.html#wp34621
All modules, including the supervisor engine (if you have redundant supervisor engines), support hot swapping. You can add, replace, or remove modules without interrupting the system power or causing other software or interfaces to shut down. For more information about hot-swapping modules, see the Catalyst 6500 Series Switch Module Installation Guide.

  • Password reset on a Cisco Catalyst 3550 series

We have a Cisco Catalyst 3550 series, and we don't have the password to gain access to the switch through a web browser. My question is if I reset the password using Hyper-terminal, does changing the password affect any vlan or fiber optic settings that I should know about. Or does resetting the password changes our switch to factory settings?

    Hi,
The password recovery procedure for your switch is described in this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-2950-series-switches/12040-pswdrec-2900xl.html
If you follow the instructions in the document exactly, you will retain the original configuration - you just rename the configuration file so that it is not loaded when the switch boots up. However, you will still be able to display it after the switch boots up using the more flash:config.old . Eventually, you can even load it into running-config using copy flash:config.old running-config command. At that point, the old passwords will be brought back but because you already are in the privileged EXEC mode, you can change them and save the updated configuration.
VLANs should not be affected as long as you do not delete the vlan.dat file located in FLASH. Fiber optic ports should not be affected as long as you are using original Cisco GBICs. If you're using 3rd party GBICs, it may be necessary to enter the service unsupported-transceiver hidden command in the global configuration mode before they get recognized.
    Good luck!
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • CATALYST 2950 SERIES - CLEAR OPT TABLE & DISABLE CASH

I have 2 cisco switches model - catalyst 2950 series, i recently had an network issue regarding an ip conflict with one of my member servers, after being on the phone with microsoft support for 6 days, we were able to resolve the problem by locating the correct mac address and clearing the "OPT table on the switches" by unplugging and replugging the power cord. In order to prevent this from happening again, Microsoft had asked me to contact cisco and ask the following questions, " Are these swiches managable via the gui?  and we also need to make sure that the "Arp Cash is disabled on the switches" can anyone help in this matter?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Arrowext289,
Thank you for your question.  However the Small Business Support Community is limited to Cisco Small Business Products.

  • Catalyst 2950 Series - Monitoring Port

Do the catalyst 2950 series have a port that can be used to connect a device that is designed to monitor all traffic on the switch - we are looking to install Webspy to track network & internet usage. The Sentinal product would best be connected to the switch where it can record all traffic - it needs a monitor port or some such equivalent.

    Hi,
The 2950 does indeed support that - the functionality is called Switch Port Analyzer (SPAN). The following link has details on how to configure it:

What IOS are you running on your Supervisor 2T? As long as it's 15.0(1)SY1 or later you should be OK. (Reference).
If it's not working with that I'd try reload of the ASA SM module (from IOS cli - e.g. "hw-module <module#> reset" and, failing that, "no power-enable module <module#>" followed by "power-enable module <module#>) while the new Supervisor is installed. Watch the log for relevant messages during that process.

  • SMB300 series PoE

    Hi,
On SMB 300 series I noticed that the PoE power budget (24ports) is 180W.
So if calculate well, I can only use 7,5W / port (if all ports are used). Does someone has experience with this low budget switch?
Is the deliverd power stable to use 24 phones on that switch?
    Regards

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center.
Currently there is no testing from Cisco to certify the use of any third party PoE adapters or extenders with any of our Small Business Equipment like the SF300 switches. While there are several out in the market, while using third party equipment that has not been certified can potentially work, they have an equal chance of not working or damaging equipment. Before using such devices I would make sure that they will replace any equipment that is damaged from the use of their products, because Cisco may not depending on the circumstances.
I am by no means saying that customers can not use third party equipment. I just want all of our customers to have all of the information.

  • Catalyst 500 series

    hi,
i have a question regarding cisco 500 series switches and it is that if we want to shut down this switch remotely then is it possible or it has to be done manually by going to the switch location and disconnecting the power supply because i dont see a power off or shut down option if it is accessed remotely like from a pc.
    regards
    Ahmed

I don't think many devices are meant to be shutdown. As soon as there is power they run. That's what they are made for.
What do you wish to acomplish with the shutdown?
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Catalyst 2950 series

    Hello everybody,
I have a Cisco Switch, model WS-C2950C-24 with the IOS version 12.0(5.3)WC(1).
I have created two VLANs, so I have trying to assign one Ethernet port to those VLANS,
I saw, this option is not avaliable. Switch(config-if)# switchport mode multi vlan [#], [#]. (this command does not exit).
When I typed switchport mode ? , It appears just access and trunk,
Could you help me to find a command to assign one port to several VLANs.?
    Thank you.
    Best Regards,

2950s do not support multi-VLAN ports. You need to make it a trunk if you need to pass more than one VLAN over a link.
You are seeing it in parser because you are running ancient 12.0 code(which also runs on XL series which support multivlan ports).

  • 300 Series POE and legacy devices

    Greetings;
I convinced the powers that control my paycheck to stick with Cisco for small POE switch deployment.  Yay!
So, I opened up my shiny new piece of hardware (a SF302-08MP aka SRW208MP-K9-NA), plugged in a Cisco 1230 and an 1121 AP AND... nothing.
I thought to myself, looks like Cisco is following the 802.af standard.  I grabbed my crimper, swapped pins 4 and 5 with 7 and 8, and... nothing... again...
Now, the whole reason I pressed so hard for this equipment is that I wanted to be certain that our Cisco devices would be supported.  The weird part is that an older Linksys (by Cisco or whatever) POE switch works just fine.
Knowing that there are two types of 802.af (one that delivers power via pins 1,2,3, and 6, and the other 4,5,7, and 8), it does not make sense that a switch (especially a Cisco switch) that says it complies with 802.af, would only comply with one type (I'm pretty sure the standard requires both).
Do I have a faulty switch, or an unhealthy attachment to a company that I adore?

  • Setting uplink port on Catalyst 2900 series Switch

Greetings, I'm working on my CCNA and I want to copy down the IOS to my Linux box via TFTP before making any major configuration changes (basically back it up).
I've noticed I don't have an uplink port on the Switch and not really sure how to go about this.
Also can I use CAT5 or will I have to use Cross-Over?
    thanks

As long as the speed and duplex are set to auto then MDI/MDI-X is enabled.
    [/quote]
I'm not sure how to confirm if MDI/MDI-X is enabled or not on the Switch.
Forgot to include this other detail.  All of the devices (Linux pc and Cisco Switch) are connected to a Linksys SOHO Router/Switch.  Will this make a difference?  I wouldn't think so as long both devices can ping each other.
    thanks
