Catalyst 4006 with Supervisor Engine II Multicast Support?

Hi, I have a Catalyst 4006 with Supervisor Engine II. I would like to know if it is possible to enable multicast routing via CGMP or IGMP. I know it is possible with the Supervisor Engine III. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cat4006 wiht sup II runs a CatOS and it's stricly Layer 2 therefore it does not support any kind of routing (L3). It does support multicast services. Switches can use CGMP, IGMP filtering, or GMRP to dynamically configure switch ports so that IP multicast traffic is forwarded only to ports that are associated with IP multicast hosts.

    What IOS are you running on your Supervisor 2T? As long as it's 15.0(1)SY1 or later you should be OK. (Reference).
    If it's not working with that I'd try reload of the ASA SM module (from IOS cli - e.g. "hw-module <module#> reset" and, failing that, "no power-enable module <module#>" followed by "power-enable module <module#>) while the new Supervisor is installed. Watch the log for relevant messages during that process.

    Recently our customer has bought a new supervisor engine 8 for their catalyst 4507R-E chassis to replace the current supervisor engine 6l-e. The problem is when ever the chassis reload with the new supervisor engine 8, it appears a message stating some sort that this type of chassis is not supported by this supervisor engine thus the supervisor will shut down. When refer to the link http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/hardware/configuration/notes/OL_29676.html it stated there 1.The Cisco Catalyst 4507R-E Switch supports Supervisor Engine 8-E only on chassis that have hardware revision 2.0 or higher. Contact your Cisco customer service representative for more information. So then I have issued the show idprom chassis.

    I think you need to upgrade the IOS-XE to 3.7.0E to be able to enable this feature. 
    Another thing, the Release Notes firmly states you need to upgrade the Bootstrap to SG5 in order to load 3.7.0E.

  • Cisco 4006 & 4506 sup engine

    Hi,
    My existing 4006 chassis is using Supervisor III (WS-X4014).
    I have another 4506 chassis using Supervisor IV (WS-X4515) and a Netflow Services Card (WS-F4531) build on top of it.
    I need Netflow Services Card in 4006, so can I just replace the Supervisor IV (WS-X4515) used in cisco 4006? Is it compatible with 4006?
    Any suggestion?

    according to that document, it is not possible if you want to put supIV to 4006 chassis

    You  can deploy the supervisor engine IV in single-chassis nonredundant mode  in the Cisco Catalyst 4503, 4503-E, 4506, and 4506-E chassis. You can  also deploy it in single-chassis redundant mode as an option in the  Cisco Catalyst 4507R chassis (slots 1 and 2 only) and Cisco Catalyst  4507R-E/4507R+E chassis (slots 3 and 4).
    The  supervisor engine IV is compatible with the classic Cisco Catalyst 4500  and the E-series Cisco Catalyst 4500 Line Cards. Table 1 gives  performance information for the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor  Engine IV.

    The two supervisor engines in a redundant supervisor engine configuration have different responsibilities. The active supervisor engine is responsible for controlling the system bus and all line cards. All protocols are running on the active supervisor engine and it performs all packet forwarding. The standby supervisor engine does not communicate with the line cards. It receives packets from the network and populates its forwarding tables with this information, but does not participate in any packet forwarding. The relevant protocols on the system are initialized, but not active, on the standby supervisor engine. The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series supervisor engines are hot-swappable and the standby supervisor engine can be installed in a running, active system. Also please note that redundant supervisor engines do not perform load sharing. The active supervisor engine is providing the entire packet-forwarding intelligence for the system (N+1 redundancy). If the active supervisor engine fails, the standby supervisor engine can still maintain the same system load.
    The standby supervisor engine polls the active supervisor engine through the Ethernet out-of-band channel (EOBC) every 5 to10 milliseconds to monitor the online status of the active supervisor engine. The active supervisor engine might go offline for a variety of reasons such as hardware failures, system overload conditions, memory corruption issues, removal from chassis, being reset by the operator, or real-time diagnostics-driven supervisor switchover (also known as Generic Online Diagnostics) 1. The standby supervisor engine detects this type of failure and becomes the new active supervisor engine. The Catalyst OS software on the supervisor engine is responsible for restoring the protocols, line cards, and forwarding engines to normal operation. This restoration takes place through a fast switchover or a high-availability switchover.

    I have a Catalyst 4006, with moduels WS-X4013, WS-X4148-RJ, WS-X4232-L3 and WS-X4232-GB-RJ.
    Can someone please let me know the latest firmware and IOS for this.
    I've been told that the latest firmware is 8.4(7)GLX, but do not know what the latest version of IOS is.

    For web interface, you will need the CV capable image in the bootflash in addition to the main 7.6(13) file.

    How to ensure the Supervisor Engine 3 module has been integrated into Catalyst 4006? Any command I can use to make sure this? I am going to use it to do all routing for a enterprise network.....

    I do not understand your question. Sup3 for CAT 4006 runs IOS and can route EIGRP/OSPF/IS-IS with enhanced image and RIP/static routes with Basic image.

    Folks,
    We are looking to upgrade the Catalyst 4500 Supervisor Engine 8-E(IOS XE Software). As of now we are running on 3.3.1XO and as per the Cisco notes version 3.3.2XO which is suggested version.
    I would like to find some comparison documents on both these version and establish if there is a need to do the upgrade. What are the fixes that have been done in this version.

    Listen to ‘glen.grant’ – ‘pagp’ is propriety to Cisco devices, so your only option will be ‘lacp’.
    However, my question to add to this post – would ‘CSCO12006413’ want to go with the MAC or IP Load-balancing methods? Question - If the destination address is the same, but source address different ‘CSCO12006413’ should use MAC based load-balancing; however, if this is for server-to-server configuration, I think you will want to use IP based load-balancing on the EtherChannel configuration?

    I did transitioned CLI actions to the EXPRESSION-MIB SNMP but I could not receive anything information about the dualcore utilization on the PRTG Network Monitor and received a lot of  %HA_EM-7-FMFD_SNMP_ERRCODE: fh_fd_snmp_errcode: Error status: 6 NO_ACCESS_ERROR: 1. messages on the WS-C4507.
    Considering the initial EEM script, could ypu help me to avoid the  %SYS-5-CONFIG_I: Configured from console by  on vty0 (EEM:moncores)
    messages using Embedded Syslog Manager.

    I need help and clarification regarding the software license of Sup 7-E and Sup 8-E. Based on the catalog  it ships with IOS XE universal image? Here are my inquiries.
    1. With IOS XE universal image, what is the software license installed in Sup 7-E and Sup 8-E? Is it LAN Base or IP Base?
    2. Is there an option to purchase the Sup 7-E or Sup 8-E with an Enterprise Base license?
    3. How many priority queue does it support?

    1- Cisco provides LAN Base software only when purchasing SUP7E or SUP7L-E bundle with a single Supervisor, in all other cases IP Base license is provided at no additional cost.
    There will continue to be three packages: LAN Base, IP Base, and Enterprise Services.  ( IP Base and Enterprise services to be purchases seperately)
