  • Gigabit Ethernet distribution system ports

    Hi,
we are using Cisco WLAN controller 5508 which have 8 Gigabit Ethernet distribution system ports. Can any one tell me how to check the model number of the gigabit Ethernet distribution system ports.
    Regards,
    Noman

    Noman,
I’m still a little confused, sorry. Are you looking for the model of the installed SFP transceiver module or the part number of the SFP port bank itself?
    Are you looking for this:
    Or this:
If you want to know the transceiver module, you can look at the show port summary command. It will tell you what type of transceiver you have in there, although it won't list the exact make/model but you can figure it out. 1000BaseTX = GLC-T. 1000BaseSX = GLC-SX-MM. 1000BaseLX = GLC-LH-SM.
If you want to know the part number for the SFP bus, ports or chips themselves, then I'm at a loss for you. I guess you can take the controller apart and do a visual inspection to see if you find anything useful. Are you trying to DIY repair a dead controller or something?

  • GE module in Catalyst 4500 family

I want to connect 18 GBIC in my Edge switch to one Catalyst 4506 in Distribution Layer. can I use 18 port Gigabit Ethernet Module, server switching (WS-X4418-GB) or I have to use 3x 6port Gigabit Ethernet Module (WS-X4306-GB).
    Thanks for your help.

In a WS-X4418-GB the first 2 ports are wirespeed and have no oversubscription.
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat4000/hw_doc/mod_inst/03instal.htm#wp1037570
You will be better off using these 2 ports to connect to your 4506.

  • MDS9222i Gigabit Ethernet Ports

    Hi all,
I have a question about MDS9222i Gigabit Ethernet ports. Are they RJ-45? In other words, to connect one of them to a Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 port on a Catalyst 4500 supervisor, do I need just a Cat 5e copper cable or are SFPs required?
    Thank you in advance,
    Gianluca

The mgmt interface supports copper,The  4 ip gigabit interfaceS require a SFP. There is a RJ-45 copper option: DS-SFP-GE-T, or a MM fiber option: DS-SFP-FCGE-SW

  • Port groups in NX7000 F2 48-port 1G/10G Ethernet module in regard to VDC?

Have couple of questions about assigning ports on the F2 1G/10G Ethernet module to VDC. Thanks for any help.
    1) The older 32-port 10G Ethernet module has port groups. When assigning ports to VDC, ports in the same port group should be assigned to the same VDC. Is it the same scenario with the newer F2 1G/10G Ethernet module? If so, where can I find information about mapping between ports and port groups?
    2) The older 32-port 10G module has ports in dedicated mode or shared mode due to its 80G bandwidth to the switching fabrid. Is each port of the newer F2 10G module at 10G line rate? If that's the case, I can then assigned any ports to be vPC peer link, as oppsed to the older 32 port module where only one port from a port group can be in dedicated mode to be vPC peer link.
    Thanks again

    1) F2 has the same limitation. The port-group is grouped by the SoC. Meaning 1-4 is port-group 1, 5-8 is port-group 2, etc.
    2) F2 is line rate if you have 5x Fab-2 module. Yes you can assign any port as vPC peer-link but you should consider the MAC limitation when designing such solution.

  • NX7K VDC: port groups in F2 48-port 1G/10G Ethernet module?

Have couple of questions about assigning ports on the F2 1G/10G Ethernet module to VDC. Thanks for any help.
    1) Does the newer F2 1G/10G 48-port Ethernet module have port groups as the older 32-port 10G Ethernet module? If so, where can I find information about mapping between ports and port groups?
    2) The older 32-port 10G module has ports in dedicated mode or shared mode due to its 80G bandwidth to the switching fabrid. Is each port of the newer F2 10G module at 10G line rate or still the same as the older 32-port module? I want to make sure the 10G ports for vPC peer link are in line rate.
    Thanks again

    Hi there
The F2 line card use the SOC (Switch On Chip) architecture where each SOC manages a group of 4 contiguous ports called “Port-Group”
the port groups on the F2 are broken up into groups of four, 1, 2, 3, 4 are part of port-group1, and then so on down the line in groups of 12 groups
    "12x4= 48 ports "
For changing the bandwidth and VDC allocation it is highly recommended to use the entire port group using same attribute/VDC
“N7K-F248 Requires allocation in port groups of four to align ASIC resources”
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/nx-os/virtual_device_context/configuration/guide/vdc_mgmt.html#wp1170127
the each interface of the F2 is a "10G line rate" which can provide you with up to 480G per line card
however you need to make sure that you have enough Fabric moduls to support the required bandwidth in the backbend/fabric
for example example each FAB2 can provide up to 110G per slot so to run the F2 with its full capacity you need 5x FAB2
    hope this helps

  • Gigabit ethernet only supports 100Mb

    Hi
Im having a problem with the 48-port Gigabit ethernet blade (48-port 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)) on a 4506 switch, one of the ports only support 100Mb, if hardcoded to 1000Mb on both sides, then the connectivity would be gone. All other ports on this blade seem fine.
Would it be a hardware issue? Any idea what caused it?
    Thank you
    Jane

    Not at this point, no.
Any diagnostics, with or without testing equipment, are going to require disconnecting either or both ends of the cable.
You can follow the cable through the system and inspect all of the connections (patch cable->panel->info outlet->patch cable to the host), maybe try re-punching the connection at the panel to make sure the wires are seated into the IDC connector.
You'd be looking primarily at the blue and brown pairs (green and orange are used for Ethernet/Fast Ethernet).
Likely as not, one of the blue or brown pair are reversed (i.e., white-blue and blue are swapped at the panel).
If that's the case, you'll need to clear and re-punch the pair.
    Good Luck

  • 10 Gigabit Ethernet Wan PHY vs LAN PHY

    hello,
Is it possible to connect a 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN PHY client interface (12xxx or 76xx) on a 10 Gigabit Ethernet WAN PHY port of provider équipment (Nortel 5200) ?
what about the existence of 10 Gigabit Ethernet WAN PHY interface on 12xxx or 76xx plateform ?
    thank you in advance

The Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP DWDM system offers a a 10Gbps transponder card supporting a 10GE LAN PHY client interface.

  • WS-X4306-GB - Catalyst 4500 6-port GBIC Module & FC Tape Libraries

    WS-X4306-GB - Catalyst 4500 6-port GBIC Module & FC Tape Libraries
I have several Tape Autoloader Libraries from Dell which have Fibre Channel interfaces. I have loop switches that these connect to today. I also have a Catalyst 4506 with a WS-X4306-GB - 6-port GBIC Module. I would like to use the X4306 as a loop switch. Some of the libraries can also connect via point-to-point FC.
Can this be done? If yes, how do I start in making this happen?
    Thank You.

Sorry but the Catalyst 4500 does not support Fibre Channel connections on the WS-X4306-GB (or on any card). It's strictly an Ethernet switch. Reference
To mix and match Ethernet and FC interfaces, you'd have to be on a new platform like the Nexus 5k series - specifically the UP (Unified Port) variants.

i am confused if this one
Cisco Catalyst 4507R Module WS X4424GB RJ 45, Multi-speed Gigabit Ethernet Switching Module (24-port)

Yes it you get the refurbished with the good one then it would get detected and works fine.

  • CRS-1 8-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Interface Module

How much is the back plane speed for a line card on CRS-1? Does using a 8-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Interface Module in CRS-1 have an oversubscription of 2:1, like the WS-X6708 in 7209 chassis?

    Hello Jenny,
yes from datasheet it looks like so

    or
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5763/ps5862/product_data_sheet09186a008022d5e9.html
it talks of a 40 Gbps forwarding engine
    described here:

Just to add to Jon's post, it should be up to seven with dual sups or up to eight with single sup.
(Line cards are hot swappable, but I agree with Jon, ideally they should be changed during planned maintenance - just in case.)
BTW, if you're going to load up a 6509 with that many 10g cards, you may want to insure some or all have DFCs.  If you do use DFCs, don't forget possible issues when matching them to sup.
Also BTW, if you need even more 10g ports, there also the 6708 and 6716 line cards for sup720s, but if you have a sup2T, there's also the 6816 and 6908.

  • Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter or Thunderbolt port stopped working

Hey problem if anyone can help:
I use a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, and all of a sudden it stopped working to connect to the internet on my Macbook Air (MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014 with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)).  In my system information it says it is connected even when not, see below:
    Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter:
      Vendor Name: Apple Inc.
Device Name: Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
      Vendor ID: 0x1
      Device ID: 0x8003
      Device Revision: 0x1
      UID: 0x0001000202DD0A30
      Apple Serial Number: DTN4263048VDWKHBQ
      Route String: 1
      Firmware Version: 5.5
      Port (Upstream):
      Status: Device connected
      Link Status: 0x2
      Speed: Up to 10 Gb/s x1
      Port Micro Firmware Version: 0.0.8
Can anyone help me figure out what the issue is? Is it the Adapter, the Thunderbolt port itself? A gremlin?  Thanks!

Which model MacBook Pro do you have? Does it have a Thunderbolt port? If so the TB->Ethernet adapter MAY work (although it's specifically designed for those MacBook models that lack an Ethernet port).
The adapter would certainly be the cheapest way to go - if it works. Personally, I would rather have the Ethernet port on my MacBook Pro working, but this may be an expensive fix, I don't know. If I were you, I would at least take your computer to your local Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis and estimate to repair your MBP. If it seems as if it's going to be too costly, then you may certainly try the adapter and see if it works.

  • Minimal interframe gaps in gigabit ethernet port

    Hi ,
Whether someone know the minimum interframe gap in gigabit ethernet port in Cisco switch ,3750.
Also ,would like to know the IEEE standard for the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas.

the interframe gap for 1-GB is 96 nanoseconds of 96 bit size.
the minimum IFG for is 96 bit times. (the time it takes to transmit 96 bits of data at the specified data rate)
    ie:
    10Mbps - 9.6 milliseconds
    100Mbps - 960 nanoseconds
    1000Mbps - 96 nanoseconds
note: you may not want to decrease an IFG smaller than 9.6 microseconds if all other hosts are only capable of 9.6 ms. (10mbps connections)
interframe gap shrinkage could occur to the point where the gap is too small.
if you have a gap that is too small, it will not allow the NIC enough time to switch between TX/RX states and packets could be lost.
please see these links for more IFG info:
